Hey everyone, I just got the 750 and had a question. When I load PIE, it will not connect to any webpages. I keep getting an error message that the page cannot be found. Also, when I try to send/receive through outlook, it says it cannot connect with my current settings, although the settings are from factory. The weird thing is that when I use IM+, my instant messaging app, it connects just fine and I am able to talk to people through the connection. Any suggestions? I went to the cingular site and made sure my connections are correct.
Thanks in advance.
It sounds like one of three things:
1) You don't have a data plan
2) Your data plan is not properly setup on ATT's side
3) Your data settings are not correct on the 750
The IM program is likely using text messages so it wouldn't be impacted by a lack of data.
IM+ is strictly data. I figured it out though. After countless hours backing up and hard resetting and restoring, it turned out to be an application I used to tweak the device. When I selected to store PIE info (cookies, cache, etc) onto the storage card, it messed up the settings somehow and just simply undoing the registry didn't help.

For some reason this problem keeps coming back..
When I go to Activesync on my 750 it shows a different screen that says "To sync with a desktop computer, install ActiveSync on your computer and then connect this device."
When I plug in via USB or to go Menu/Connect via Bluetooth it starts to connect (open ports, establish connection, etc) but the desktop pops up a warning that says "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully..."
This appears AFTER I have already synced the device once or twice and the profile already exists on my desktop.
This happens regardless of syncing with bluetooth (which used to work) or with USB (which also used to work).
I reinstalled ActiveSync 4.5 on the desktop. The original profile was wiped away, and I was able to sync with the device again.
Now the problem came back..!
Any idea what this is? It seems like a device issue because I can never get to that normal "spinning arrows" screen on the device, only this warning screen.
Your help is appreciated!
- soft reset, no help
- reinstall activesync on desktop, no help
ok got it... deleted the profile on the desktop (disconnect device, on desktop go to File/Delete Mobile Device)... soft reset device... reconnect device to desktop...
how do i delete the profile from the device, i think that is corrupt? keeps doing the same thing.
Can you try to go to settings/connections/USBtoPC & disable advanced network functionality?
"synchronization could not be completed"
sorry, wrong thread, can't seem to remove
Update: Okay so I know how to fix the problem (delete profile from desktop, soft reset device, connect via USB)... but the problem keeps coming back.
It seems like the profile keeps getting "lost" on the Treo because that screen that I mentioned (without the spinning arrows) keeps coming back and it should only appear when there are no profiles on the device.. am I right?
Also seems like I am the only one experiencing this issue, I guess.
not the only one ive been trying for days to fix this issue and now my phone hard reset itself and wiped all my contacts/appointments etc. hmmm....... did you have a happy ending?
ActiveSync is not finding my profile?
"I know that this is an old thread" and I am bumping it anyway.
I am now having the same issue a HTC touch pro.
I cannot seem to find an actual solution to this problem, having to delete my profile every two days is not what I would call "a solution".
I cannot seem to find anyone that can help me on this issue, nor can I find the thread is it seemed to address this with a solution - only more questions.
If anyone could help me out here it would be much appreciated, thank you.
my symptoms:
contacts, appointments, notes and tasks are all missing from my phone.
Upon connecting ActiveSync, computer and phone both believe that synchronisation has occurred perfectly. In hindsight I am wondering if it has got something to do with the phone creating a new, blank profile in synchronising with that?
We in you try to change the settings so that it will synchronise them again, all of those checkboxes are locked so that they cannot be selected, almost like you are in the wrong profile and outlook is preventing you from syncing with a profile.
The only "solution" that I have discovered to this thus far is to delete all of my Outlook profiles, and then begin from scratch again
My problem is very similar to the one described here, However I don't want to fix it, I just want to TRY and retrieve my contacts!!!!
I am looking for the contact data files in WM 6.1 (in other words, the outlook data files that are probably hidden).
Backstory: The resident idiot here (ME) neglected to sync his phone and back things up for, oh, about 3 months. (yes, you know what comes next, and I fully deserve it!).
The phone has now stopped working... Specifically, the Phone application, contacts application, and calendar application. The rest of WM is working fine, except that there is something causing it to run sluggish. AND the phone will not sync. It will connect, but it refuses to sync. Nothing was done to cause this failure, other than waking up one morning.
SOMETHING is corrupted, but I don't think its the actual data file (logic for that is below), SO before I hit the hard reset.... I thought I might try to back it up manually..... what do I have to lose?
A few more specifics:
1. Samsung i770 running WM 6.1 (but I think more of a WM specific issue than a i770 issue). Activesync 4.5 will connect, but it will not sync contacts.
2. When the phone booted for the first 20 or so times after the problem appeared, an error message would across the screen as soon as the desktop was loaded, but far too fast to make out any of the words.
3. Trying to load contacts, calendar, or the phone application produces absolutely no result. No error message, to hung process, nothing.
4. The messaging application works fine, BUT any attempt to load a contact from within fails. Again, no error message, just... nothing happens, it's like you never clicked it....
5. The radio antenna in the top bar says that it has no service.
6. NOW the error message is no longer flashing by the screen when you boot the phone, but all other symptoms remain.
7. Despite the fact that the radio icon and status indicator claims there is no signal, I can send and receive text messages (I just have to enter the number manually).
8. Once, very recently, without doing anything, an error message appeared and STAYED on the screen. Shape of the text looks about right for the message that previously has been flashing by on the screen, I think they are one in the same.
"Shortcut Target"
"error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename."
ANY THOUGHTS? Primarily I'm looking for the contacts data file (I don't care about the calendar, but its probably in the same spot) to TRY back it up before I hard reset the phone.... BUT if anyone has any ideas about a cause or temporary fix to the problems, I'm all ears!!!!!!
I'd highly recommend trying Microsoft MyPhone, just to see if that can access your contacts. It may be that the contacts DB itself is knackered, in which case you obviously can't get anything back.
Worth a try

Good luck!

Indeed it was worth a try. Connected via Wifi to install (can't use data plan, that requires "dialing" an internet connection, which must use the phone app).
Synced documents, txt messages, photos, and then said "Synchonization Successful". WOOHOO! all done.... OR NOT! checked online, NO contacts information. No Calendar information. Apparently MyPhone takes the stance of "if it won't work, just ignore it and report success".
Thanks, A very good thing to try, but no go
Unfortunately, I can think of a number of different ways that WM could be programed, each pointing to a different culprit for the problem. If it's straight DB access for each program, then the only conclusion is that the DB is knackered. But if there's a some kind of access control program that handles those things, maybe its just the program that's no good (hence the message that it couldn't load the target shortcut when the phone boots up).
Anyone have any ideas where to find the DB itself? I can always try the traditional (and very bad idea) of a file swap.....
Looks like this mystery will go unsolved... last chance to figure out where to find the contacts db file is. I'll probably be wiping it tomorrow, can't live without the phone much longer. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Search for PIMBackup, that will enable you to save all your PIM related stuff and then restore it once you have a working device.
Edit
Forgot to say this doesn't require you to install anything, just save the EXE to your memory card and then use File Manager to run it on the PPC.
"Connecting to outlook...."
"Could not connect to Outlook."
Beautiful suggestion, I really thought I had the answer there... Thank you!
Seems to be that poutlook.exe is knackered, but that really would not explain why the Phone (cprog.exe) won't load...
PIM Backup log history is mostly what could be expected:
appointments failed - cant connect to outlook
call logs worked
contacts failed - cant connect to outlook
messages worked - "connected to outlook" (but thats a different db and a different connection app, tmail.exe)
speed dials worked
tasks failed - cant connect to outlook
So it comes down to this: PIM.vol is knackered, OR poutlook.exe is dead, and I'm not sure which. Anyone have WM 6.1 and feel like emailing me a copy of poutlook.exe? (powderkeg500 ~a~t~ gmail ^d0t^ com !)... I'm sure the versions may be a bit different... but *shrug* maybe it will work?.....
Does anyone know if I can simply copy PIM.vol to my computer, reload the device, and then copy PIM.vol back to the phone? If the answer is absolutely yes, then I can simply try that. But if the answer is no... I could be shooting myself in the foot
i think copying PIM.vol off and then back on might work, but i seem to recall it may require Total Commnader to get it back on as it's locked by the OS on startup - deemed a system level file i think.
i remember doing this once myself but can't remember that far back now.
Sorry for not sounding more positive. You might like to look at alol.net.br as they offer a free Exchange acount you access OTA and so your contacts would always be backed up in future.
Please help, I was trying out a program called Toggle Data Widget, and I noticed that it wasn't working, so I uninstalled it. Now when I turned my phone on the data connection is gone. I tried reinstalling the app, and nothing happens. I don't know what to do, and I don't want to restore, because I haven't had a chance to back it up yet. Please help. Thanks a lot.
What do you mean the data connection is gone? Which icon would that be?
I mean the little 3G symbol is gone, nothing is there anymore, and when I try connecting, I get an error saying, "a network error has occurred."
Try reinstalling it, set the widget to where it is turned on, then just reboot the phone. I had it mess up a few times when I was trying that one out. I downloaded one called GT-Widget Data that works quite a bit better.
Thanks a lot, it seems to be working now. I wonder if I should try uninstalling it again.
You should be able to uninstall it safely now.
Most of the utilities to turn off 3G data mangle the access point settings that is stored in a database. When you uninstall the utilties with data disabled, they remain mangled.
Another way to fix it quickly btw is to just use Reset Default in the Captivate's Settings.
So I popped in another SIM to my phone temporarily, and in the process when I got my own back in, everything was fine EXCEPT
all my google accounts would not sign in, and would not accept their passwords. Strangely, 2/3 of them would not accept their password even on the pc in the browser. I briefly considered that I had been compromised but the timing is way too suspect with this never having happened before (the problem AND switching SIMs)
I reset those 2, and got them working on both the phone and pc browser again, on the phone only by deleting the accounts and re-adding them.
However, the remaining account (which I could always login on pc browser) will still not accept the password on the phone.
Because it is the main google account, it cannot be deleted on the phone except through a factory data reset.
I REALLY don't want to have to go through all that hassle of reconfiguring a million things just because something bugged out during switching SIMs.
How can I fix this without wasting my evening reseting settings and redownloading apps?
is data enabled on the phone? cuz if not it will give such errors. settings>wireless. data

mobile data has always been disabled on this phone; since day 1.
why would it being disabled suddenly cause a problem now?
I don't pay for any data, so what exactly are you proposing I do?
fixed it.
was related to 2 step verification crap. turned it all off and worked again.
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 G920P.02
Android 5.1.1
Rooted, No ROMS
I am very, VERY confused. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I believe my phone is just fried but I will find out when I take it into the sprint store tomorrow. I will most likely get a new/replacement phone but they will have no idea what caused the problem and I need to figure out how this happened so it won't happen again. I'm also very curious as I don't understand at all.
The problem: It started with me not being able to connect to the internet on ANY of my apps. No crashes or anything, just no connectivity to the internet. Calls and SMS still worked like normal. After calling sprint support they told me dial ##72786#, which then just simply broke calls and SMS. Now NOTHING works.
What caused the problem: This is where I am most confused. I was trying to setup a VPN (purevpn, to be exact) on my Xbox One. In the process of this, I was modifying my router settings on my Windows 8 PC, plugged in a 2nd router, and constantly turned the wifi off and on. I was using my phone to test if the wifi was still working. (e.g. going to google.com on firefox or launching clash of clans...literally that was it) The only thing that I can think may have messed it up was a step in settings up the VPN. On my computer, after I installed the purevpn software I located myself to "Network and Sharing Center", then clicked "Adapter Settings", then clicked on "Pure VPN", then "Sharing", then checked the box "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection", and lastly from the drop down menu, selected "Local Area Network." This allowed all devices on my network to use the VPN. Somehow this messed up my phone that hard?

Steps I have taken to fix this: I tried rebooting my times a million times. Then I cleared DNS cache in firefox and tried to connect. Then I tried hard rebooting my phone to flush DNS cache. Then I called sprint support, who told me dial ##72786#. After dialing this, calling and SMS DO NOT WORK. "Hands free activation" starting running after dialing that number and fails to work everytime. When I wasn't able to call the phone rep back, I used the sprint online chat support. I told the online rep what happened, and they assured me the only way to fix this was to factory reset my phone. As frustrated as I was, I did it. After the factory reboot, my phone STILL CAN'T CONNECT TO ****. Exactly how it was before the reboot, except I lost all of my stuff. I have done countless google searches and am clueless and need help.
Google will push all your stuff back to the phone after you log into your account. But you'll need the internet for that.
How did you get root?

I really don't remember, It was months ago. I paid $30 for it though and have never had issues with it.
Just brought it into a sprint tech store and they fixed by putting in a fresh sim card, reseting the phone, cache, dns, and everything they could reset. After that did not work they flashed an updated version of my phones software on the phone, which removed the root , and fixed the issue.
I explained what I did to all of the employees in the store (I was the only one there) and they were all as clueless as me.
Does anyone know what could have possibly caused this?
