Please Help, Data Disappeared - Captivate General

Please help, I was trying out a program called Toggle Data Widget, and I noticed that it wasn't working, so I uninstalled it. Now when I turned my phone on the data connection is gone. I tried reinstalling the app, and nothing happens. I don't know what to do, and I don't want to restore, because I haven't had a chance to back it up yet. Please help. Thanks a lot.

What do you mean the data connection is gone? Which icon would that be?

I mean the little 3G symbol is gone, nothing is there anymore, and when I try connecting, I get an error saying, "a network error has occurred."

Try reinstalling it, set the widget to where it is turned on, then just reboot the phone. I had it mess up a few times when I was trying that one out. I downloaded one called GT-Widget Data that works quite a bit better.

Thanks a lot, it seems to be working now. I wonder if I should try uninstalling it again.

You should be able to uninstall it safely now.
Most of the utilities to turn off 3G data mangle the access point settings that is stored in a database. When you uninstall the utilties with data disabled, they remain mangled.
Another way to fix it quickly btw is to just use Reset Default in the Captivate's Settings.

PIE/Outlook not connecting.

Hey everyone, I just got the 750 and had a question. When I load PIE, it will not connect to any webpages. I keep getting an error message that the page cannot be found. Also, when I try to send/receive through outlook, it says it cannot connect with my current settings, although the settings are from factory. The weird thing is that when I use IM+, my instant messaging app, it connects just fine and I am able to talk to people through the connection. Any suggestions? I went to the cingular site and made sure my connections are correct.
Thanks in advance.
It sounds like one of three things:
1) You don't have a data plan
2) Your data plan is not properly setup on ATT's side
3) Your data settings are not correct on the 750
The IM program is likely using text messages so it wouldn't be impacted by a lack of data.
IM+ is strictly data. I figured it out though. After countless hours backing up and hard resetting and restoring, it turned out to be an application I used to tweak the device. When I selected to store PIE info (cookies, cache, etc) onto the storage card, it messed up the settings somehow and just simply undoing the registry didn't help.

[Q] can't download apps from market

First of all, this isn't my phone. It's my sister's. Anyway, when she downloads an app from Market, it starts the download and shows up in the notification bar, and then like 3 seconds later, it just disappears. It shows up in "My Apps" but it's not downloaded...like it's in the list, but it still asks to download it. The phone is not rooted. I can't seem to figure out what to do...Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Greg
I've had this happen to me before. In fact happened just last night. Turned out last night my wifi was on the fritz. I turned it off in my phone and turned it back on and it worked just fine. Other times I've had to put it into airplane mode, then turn the wifi back on to get it to download.
If those don't work you could try turning off wifi and forcing it to download OTA. I think I had to do that one time. Hope that helps some.
how would you download apps OTA? I know you can get OTA updates, but idk how you would download apps OTA?
Just use your 3G is what I meant.
oh okay.
EDIT: She says she's turned WiFi off and on before and it still doesn't work. And she can't download apps on 3G either...
OK goto Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, Then click the All button and scroll down till you find Market, select it then Clear Data. There might be something hung up in there causing issues.
This happens to me occasionally. The app Lookout causes it a lot for me. After I uninstalled that app ut still did it. What works for me is to clear the cache and data for the market.
Settings
Applications
Manage applications
Select "all" tab
Locate "market"
Click on it, then click force stop, clear data and clear cache
Restarting the market will take longer than usual, but this always fixes my problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Already tried it. Didn't work...
I've posted this over at AndroidForums too, so I got a few potential solutions that didn't work. I tried looking up the problem a couple days ago, and that's what came up (your idea.) It didn't work though...
Well the only things I can think of would be if you're rooted and have CWM is to reboot into recovery and wipe cache partition (not factory reset) and wipe dalvik cache. Not sure if those will do anything for you, but it won't hurt anything to try.
The other thing is to do a factory reset. Of course you'd need to back everything up all your apps and data and copy it off the phone.
Those are the only things I can think of other then waiting and seeing if anybody else has any better ideas.
It's not rooted though, so you can't really backup...
i had it happen to me, and all i did was reboot. fixed!

com.android.phone errors

After installing Liquid Smooth RC7/8/9 I was having problems where after a day of updating apps, restarting phone, etc, I wouldn't be able to take calls anymore.
My phone would ring, but when I swyped to answer, com.android.phone would force close and hang up, giving the caller busy signal. What was worse, I would have NO call log of who called, which sucked if I got a call while at work and unable to see who was calling on the screen.
I tried numerous factory resets and it would happen again, no matter how few apps I installed (1 at a time), I cleaned my contact list out on the PC after logging into my gmail account, deleting multi-entries where importing had overlapped/doubled/quadrupled contacts in the vcf file, cluttering my phone.
Cleared cache, fixed permissions, rebooted.
Finally I uninstalled facebook app after reading that contacts from social network, rebooted.
Still was getting error of android phone stopped working.
I think i boiled it down to the radio/network acquisition on reboots.... Only thing that seemed to work now was taking out my sim card, putting it back in and going to Mobile Network settings and putting it back to LTE GSM/WCDMA under network mode, reselecting my NEtwork Operator and Access Point Names..
Really annoying problem because I don't know if it's rebooting the phone that causes this, apps installed in combination with the contacts list, or what.
Thought this might help some people in case they were experiencing similar things.
Curious...
It sounds like a sync error of some sort with your contacts... it can be from the app side or from the Google side...
If you don't then possibly the sync services are jammed up on the phone app.
Goto Manage Apps>All Apps>Phone and clear the data for the Phone and reboot...
A lot of times it is the Facebook issue...
Hope that helps...

Yeah It is bizzare... I uninstalled facebook and left contacts alone to eliminate this from the equation.
On reboots, sometimes when I'm trying to select network carrier , it takes FOREVER to load the different carriers... I've come to the conclusion that if it takes forever to load/see the phone carrier options, chances are the com.android.phone will crash AND/OR it will work but i won't get call volume (neither phone can hear volume from the other) sometimes even when com.phone.android doesn't crash when phone rings.
Im thinking it's almost hardware related with the radios inside interfering or something...
I just had the original problem, reboot the phone, reselect the carrier (no delay/lag) and everythign works again.
I tried toggles up at the top after reading some stuff about how the GPS toggle has to be on/off ... when Wi-fi is toggled on, my cell-tower reception bars AND wi-fi icon are blue.. when WiFi is disabled, those reception bars turn grey... I thought this had something to do with it also, but it doesnt.. I'm getting calls with volume and no crashes now regardless of whether wi-fi is on/off or whether the phone is plugged in to the charger or not.
Right now, it's based on whether or not my phone boots in a "good" or "bad" mood it seems... very tempermental. I'm not blaming the Rom.. but it definitely seems to be carrier/hardware related that is causing the software (phone app) to go bonkers. I'm going to go back to installing my apps again for the 9000th time/factory reset.

I think titanium backup killed my wifi

So I was merrily flashing Liquid Smooth onto my phone, and everything seemed to be working out nicely. Then, all of a sudden this stupid pop up comes up every 10 seconds saying "unfortunately the process android.process.acore has stopped". This seemed to start not long after I tried to restore my backup of the wifi access points. I also cannot seem to connect to any wifi signal (which I had no problems with before) and the wifi seems to be stuck in between on and off.
I would assume that if someone can tell me the database or location of where the access points are saved, I would assume if I were to delete/modify that file it should fix my problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm having the same issue. Probably going to have to do a stock restore and re-root

Yeah, lots of warning around, NOT to restore data with Titanium BAckup when going between different ROMs, It will often hose things because data is often not in precisely the same place.
This is strange. I always restore my Wi-Fi access points, call log, and text messages through tibu (only 3 data parts I restore) and have never had an issue. Was your backup from a tw rom initially? That's the only thing I can think of being a culprit. I restore those items across all aosp roms without issue.
WiFi access points are usually stored in your Google account. When I did all my custom stuff on my S3 Google always restored them. Did you have that option enabled on your phone for Google to save your settings?

Problem is, if you install a custom ROM or different ROM, Google will often think its a different phone and restore nothing but your contacts.

[Help] Google Now network errors

I'm having some serious problems with Google Now.
About a month ago, maybe a little more, I noticed Google Now wasn't updating anymore. I had a card at the top that said "No internet connection. Content last updated x days ago." Weird, because I hadn't done anything different or noticed any other changes. Since then, I've tried everything to get it fixed. Whenever I first open the app after a clean flash, the initial "accept these things" comes up, but when I hit "Yes, I'm in," I get a toast notification saying "Network error. Check your network connections and try again." My connections are definitely working, as every other app works. I've tried on wifi and 3g/4g. Clearing app cache/data. Wiping system/data/caches, reinstalling. Tried 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, stock, and TW. Tried multiple gapps. Tried different Gmail accounts. All do the exact same thing.
I've done quite a bit of research on the issue, and have come up empty so far. This suggested reviewing my connected apps and removing old or unnecessary ones. Nope. This and this suggested deleting card preferences, which seemed to work for a lot of people. Not me. I tried that, but got a toast: "Failed to turn off cards due to a network error. Check your network connection and try again." Some other place I can't find anymore mentioned checking my wifi proxy. Nothing wrong there though. The only thing yet to try that I can think of is a full-wipe odin, and I'm hoping to avoid that.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar or have any advice?
TL;DR Getting network errors for Google Now, even though my network is fine. Wiped, tried multiple ROMs, even multiple Gmail accounts. Still same error.
Hi,
did you ever get this issue resolved? I have tried everything too and still can't use google now. please help if you resolved this issue. thanks!
