Hi,
after using tomtom for a week, the voice directions began to get very crackly, and then pretty much disappeared. Now, there's no sound at all ... no ring tones etc. I've done a hard rest, but no luck.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Thanks!

i had this happen on my wifes prophet, turns out the headphone jack has some issues on the phone (needs replacing). there is a few threads about it, the one above doesnt help if this is the case.
Had this problem on my XDA neo 3 times and always send it back for repair, after the third time o2 exchanged my neo for a terra (HTC Herald, a Prophet with hardware keyboard)

perhaps anyone else encountered the same issue - i don't know any further with this:
after flashing the o2 xda mini german with the bigstorage rom from: ftp.xda-developers.com/Magician/BigStorage_ROMs/DE_O2_1.12.01.zip
via sd/boot-method the speaker doesn't seem to work anymore correct.
it seems like the speaker on the back of the magician is only working when a call comes in, but not for alerts, sounds or a mp3player like mortplayer or wmplayer.
also the speaker and the mic at the front of the mini aren't working.
so i flashed the device again with the original rom, but it isn't working anymore, also not with all the other available roms.
so i tried to adjust the preamp with no success.
let's see if i wake up tomorrow without a bell
I believe you have a hardware problem and has nothing to do with the ROM. There are threads and a PDF file showing how to dismantle and fix the speaker contact.
hmm i don't think so - why should it play the ring sound when someone calls? i also checked if it is the speaker on the back side which is playing the ring sounds - and: yes - it's the one on the back side
No sounds after just 6 months of use on my O2 Xda II mini!
Hi lindsche:
I also have the same problem - no sound coming out of my O2 Xda II mini EXCEPT for the ringtone for incoming calls. I have not installed any new software on my device and I have only had and used this device for 6 months! The only way I can hear anything from the device (including phone conversations) is through the use of the audio ear phones. I have been in contact with O2 Technical Support from the Asia Pacific Region (where my device was purchased) who have been suggesting all kinds of different resets stuff to no avail thus far.
By the way, where is the speaker located on this device??
Any advice would be much appreciated.
yeah, i think its hardware too, i had the same experiance with my wallaby (siemens sx56). The problem was from the audio jack. There is a small switch inside the jack that stuck so the device thinks that you are using handsfree. i tried to plug and unplug it but it make the problem worst. if been looking for the jack parts everywhere but couldnt find one. so when i got my new magician, i always plug and unplug the handsfree very very very carefully.
to upcityhighroller and lindsche: i believe your problem is in your audio jack. if you able to hear the ringtone, but not able to hear phone conversation and other sound, that means your phone thinks you are using the handsfree. best think you can do is check inside the jack with flashlight , make sure its clean and nothing stuck inside.
as per someone else's advice found in this forum, i tapped the device against my palm and the sound came back! i'm very happy EXCEPT now my power button won't work!! my temporary solution is to unlock the buttons so that I can turn on the device using any of the other buttons but now I also have NO other way to shut the device down! (I'm force to wait for 2 minutes of inactivity before it shuts down.)
Any suggestions??
Many thanks!
Not able to pick a phone call using handsfree ear phone.
Hi !
Bought O2 XDA mini, a couple of weeks ago....
I am not able to pick any call when handsfree is connected to O2 mini. I can the hear the ringing tone and listen MP3 too using the handsfree....
I have tried the handsfree on another O2 mini phone and is working absolutely fine...
I called the O2 service center and they asked me to do hard reset....
If it still does not work, they have asked me to give it to service center for repair...
I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem... If so, what is the resolution.??
kindly share your views... thanks.

hey i had a simialr problem.......even i hard resetted but the problem persisted.....but when i charged my battery it worked fine...i guess our phone doesnt accept calls if the battery is below 20%
I was desperatly searching the net for a solution and did what you guys were talking about and tried cleaning the headphone jack, i recommend using an air compressor and while u have music playin in media player just gently blow air into the jack, and if that doesn't work try a little more air, the air seemed to clean most of the dust and whatnot that had clogged it, i just had to give it some firm but gentle taps with my palm and and it works fine now. Releived, as i was just about to buy a second hand replacement
Have the same problem with my Mini.
Couldnt hear and be heard during calls, brought the phone to the service center,
they replaced the hardware yet in the end they couldnt figure out whats wrong.
Im using 1.12 right now do you think it would help if i upgrade or downgrade my ROM?
Need your inputs on this guys!
Thanks in advance.
Anyone else have this problem, or ever hear of it?
The volume is all the way up, no sounds, no annoying xda beeps, not a thing. And the problem occured right around installing Pocketmusic. So, I uninstalled it. Still no sound. I contacted O2 support in Australia (QLD), and did a hard reset over the phone, and still no audio from the handset speaker or rear speakers. Sound is output fine from the handsfree jack, just not at all through either speaker. So the operator suggested it was a hardware fault, and to send it to them.
Thus why im here (apart from learning more things I can do with the phone!), has anyone had this problem before? Is there a way to fix it without having it mailed away for eternity? I'm gutted that my magic little piece of hardware so easily is faulty....
Specs:
Phone is O2 XDA II mini, ROM: 1.12.00. Its only 3 months old!
Thanks guys..

I have been having some problems with the front speaker lately. Most of the time when I get an incoming call or make a call no sound comes through the front speaker and have to put the loudspeaker on to hear anything. The weird part is that from time to time it works fine usually after using the wired headphones. Oh an the volume is set to max.
Has anyone else had the same problems? How to fix this? could it be that I changed some settings inadvertantly?

Mine did not work at all any more. I even did a hard reset; no change. I have now sent it back to HTC for repairs.

Same here
Mine doesn't work at all.
Wow, I guess we should start a poll where people would select which problems they are experiencing:
1. Wi-Fi
2. BT
3. Front earphone
4. Radio
5. Bad painting
6. Shutting down suddenly
7. None of the above
More than one could be chosen... That would ballpark the size of the problem. Maybe some production batches were messed up due to the hurry from Qualcomm to deliver the already delayed parts? Maybe HTC came to that point where the brand is far larger than is the company's capacity of growing (especially in terms of QA)...

I have the same problem. The wired is that it ocassionally works. Another problem is that FM not always working. I bought the device in German. But now I'm in China. Any one knows how to fix? I don't know how to disassemble it. But I'm curious, maybe some pin is loose?
Same for me, the front speaker didn't work for 48 hours and then worked again I don't even know how
No sound speaker htc touch
I have the same problem, no sound from de phone, when switching to handsfree mode i hear de caller
Hello,
I have the same problem and found that this happened when starting an application that uses only rear speaker or hands free speaker (e.g. Tom Tom, Compe Pocket, etc.)
And the problem is not of that application, the problem is in the phone application of the cruise. I think that these applications mute or power off the front speaker and the phone application don´t activate it.
I have found a solution to this. When making or receiving a call, press many times speaker or hands free button on display and after many times, speaker works again.
Now, I am looking for a new phone application, in order to quit HTC application. Somebody knows a good phone application to use in Cruise????
Many thanks in advance.
My device has been returned today.
Have not had a chance to test it. Will do so when I get home tonight (in 8 hours). I will let you all know if it has been resolved.
As a remark to fran_mad's post; In my case, even after a FULL HARD reset, the speaker did not work.
I therefore do not think it was caused by a software problem.
Kind regards,
Robin

Motherboard has been replaced and all works OK again.
Good and quick service from HTC (free pick-up and delivery within one day)
I am still not sure if I like this one better then my good old sleek, slim and sexy Touch.
no sound from phone speaker
fran_mad's solution did not work for me.
I am affraid it's a hardware thing with me too?
I checked volume, did soft and hard resets (clear storage) but frontside speaker does not work!
HTC technical Support is going to collect my phone tomorrow. I will post my proceedings...
frontside speaker repaired
HTC Techsupport repaired my Touch Cruise within a week. Bravo!
See if it keeps working this time!
Same here. Front speaker started to fail a few times. 1 week later it totally stopped. Was repaired by HTC (EuroTwice.be) in 2 weeks.
Front speaker stopped working after 1 month usage - motherboard replaced by htc within 12 days. But now the device shuts down by itself sometimes - will send it to htc again tomorrow - meanwhile i am very disappointed about my Touch Cruise.

Hi
I have problem with the front speaker.
The sound is "blurry" if i put the caller to rear speaker the sound is crystal clear.
So the problem must be in front speaker??
I search the net but i cant find where to get it?
Is somebody have the front speaker from dead Prophet?

just wanna share with others..
my touch cruise experienced this weird problem since yesterday.i've tried fran_mad's method and and its works!! thanx dude! i'm still figuring why the heck this kind of problem happened as i didnt change any setting on my phone.
Sorry for being clueless but what do you guys mean by "front/rear speakers"? I thought there is only one speaker on the back side of the phone and a universal connector for handsfree - earphones+mic?
There are two speakers, one in front and one on the back. My front speaker died and was repaired by htc - new motherboard. Seems to be a known problem...
probably from beginning of May I have no sound in right channel on headphones. I tryed to move with the cable, but nothing has changed. I head nothing from right headphone, even I hear no noise. I happend suddenly. Soft-reset don't help and I'm afraid of hard-reset.
I hear nothing from right channel - MP3, sound from video, system sounds, nothing. I was looking for setting some left/right ballance but I've found nothing.
I tryed to write on HTC support, but they didn't answer.
Something similar happed on my old phone from Sony Erricson - but it happend slowly and it startet with occassional dropout of sound and it going to become worse and worse.
I have HTC TC with original SW from O2 Czech Republic.
Could you help me? I have no ideas to try (except for hard-reset)
Thanks!
Are you using the standard headset that came with your touch cruise? If so, try someone else's headset.
You could also use one of those USB-3.5mm socket converters. It allows you to plug in normal headphones. If you try this and you still don't get sound in the right channel, then it means one of two things:
1) The USB socket is faulty, OR
2) There's a software problem.
I suggest you backup all your data, and do a hard-reset. If that doesn't fix it, then take your touch cruise to a repair centre (or open it yourself and check the socket).
I would fix your touch cruise for you (since I do repairs as part of my business) but I'm in Australia (unless u wanna send ur phone to me )
Yes, I'm using standard headsed from original package.
I don't own USB-3.5mm convertor and I don't know personally anyone with HTC who could borrow me his headset.
btw, button on headset is working and device has no problem with receiving radio (volume work too, but I suppose, that this is a feature of headset and has no feedback to device)
I'll try run internal diagnostics programm (I've found it in some service manual) and we will see ...
EDIT1: I can't make this test, because I don't have diagnostcs SD card. I read instuctions just now.
I'll try hard-reset as last eventuality before claiming it...
EDIT2: Well, hard-reset didn't help :-( I'm going to the shop and they probably tell me to claim it. It's bad, I suppose that I'll be a month without my HTC ...
Australia is "a little" far way off, but thanks for your offer
I really recommend you to buy some 3.5mm adapter because it does the job far better than using the headphones that came shipped with the Polaris. I own two! one for my car and other for my every day use.
It's the best way to solve your poblem.
Had the same problem with my Polaris. Brought it back to the shop, after the motherboard was replaced it now works fine
I had this a couple of replacements ago and it turned out to be the adaptor bit of the headphones
I sent headphones to claim (without device) and I'll see where is problem. I hope, that in headphones
Unfortunatelly, they didn't have another same phone in shop, so the could not test it there.
Thanks for your time, for now ...
I'll definetely write here how will this end ...
I had the same problem. In my case it was aslo coupled with bluetooth connection and FM radio failure. The problem gone only after the motherboard replacement one mongth ago.
I've got the same problem, with any headset/-phones. What should I do? Hard-reset? How do I do that?
I regret to inform you that your problem is the first symptom of hardware failure.
Also check your bluetooth and FM radio. Since time it will only be worse.
I got first symptoms after three months after purchase. Then it worked couple months more, but unstable (i.e. few consequent soft resets to restore functionality). Then it (BT+FM radio + a channel) stopped working at all.
So, don't waste your time and the warranty and send the device back for motherboard repair. My device works fine after that for more than four months already (although I try do not switch off BlueTooth).
Regards
PS: you will have to make hard reset anyway before sending the device.
(Prefer local repair facilities since HTC tries to deny problem with the motherboard design). Also check that you have an official ROM.
PPS: make full backup before sending the device. It will help to restore most programs, but note, that the device IMEI will change after the motherboard repair and, thus, you might need new access codes for some programs.
Damn, I'm not sure if I can use the warranty, since I'm not the original buyer of the phone ... I don't have any other problems with it as far as I know (checked radio and bluetooth). You sure there's nothing else I can do to fix the sound? On my own ...
If you have an experience, you could try to check the contacts by using the service manual, see it at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412724&highlight=service+manual
Good luck!
Thanks, I'll have a look at it.
Maybe a stereo bluetooth headset would work ... Because on those you don't need the mini-usb contact, which might be the reason for my problem ... What do you guys think? Is it worth a try?
Hi,
Finally I've managed to get one of those phones - as a replacement for my Exec (best phone EVER! IMHO) and here I am!
I really want to change ROM ASAP but I might have a problem with hardware so want to check that first before doing HardSPL
- is your speaker really quiet? To the point that you can't hear TT/hands free?
- while playing teeter does your back cover gets hot? (in area of the speaker, battery is cold)
- sometimes no sound while playing teeter (possibly other games but haven't tested that yet)
- can you hear "gsm noise" every so often from that speaker? (don't know how to describe it, basically same noise as from other speakers when phone is connecting to the GSM BTS)
I'm still using Official UK O2 rom
many thanks for your help!
Cheers
Chris
XDA Serra
Hello!
columb, I have had my XDA Serra for just over a month now, with changing of the ROM, I'm not sure if its entirely necessary unless you need the standard one for a particular reason! I do recommend downloading the youtube App and quick gps patch from o2 if you want to use gps. I use copilot live 7 and its really good, fab phone! I upgraded from a XDA II so quite a jump, similar to the exec not quite as good tho!
With regard to your problems, I'v checked these with my friend who has a HTC Touch Diamond, (the non o2 keyboard-less version) and his is the same.
- My speaker is not the loudest in the world but still very audible
- The phone gets warm on the back when doing anything intensive, not to surprising considering the processing power/graphics of the phone, and after combing the manual found that o2 say that it is completely normal, just warm not hot.
- I always get sound with teeter unless system volume turned down ( obviously) so not sure about that one (be aware system volume is still separate to ring volume as on previous windows mobile)
- I don't get any GSM interference with the phones internal audio on any channel, not sure about that one again. There may be problem with your internal speaker.
The O2 rom isn't that bad, I'v compared it with the HTC rom seems to be just as responsive, if perhaps not quite as good looking.
Hope thats been some help!
Regards

XDA Serra
I am also using Serra.
speaker is not loud but it is acceptable for TT with voice.
try search "audioparam3.csv" in the forum you may get louder volume.
And I saw a thread in the forum cut backcover of the phone to make it louder and sweeter.
EXEC has two (or three?) speakers and it is very chunky so it has excellent stereo sound quality. However I couldn't imagine how to use it as a phone. It looks like a laptop or a brick.
I feel that most customized ROMs here are better than O2 one and you can always burn it back to original ROM anyway.
backcover does hot sometimes. I guess that is RF Radio module near tweeter area
Same problem
not sure if it helps but i have exactly the same ploblem with my phone.
the digitiser stopped being reponsive so i took mine in for repair. o2 took a month to fix it they did a half asses job and put in a new digitiser bur left the glass laminate which is coming un laminated and has a washing up liquid effect in the middle of the screen.
anyway when they repaired it they also upgraded the software' last night i had to make a call in the car' not having paired it yet with the bluetooth stereo i used the loud speaker. after 10 seconds or so it all went quite. i toggled loud speaker off and on again. it came back for a few seconds and went again.
i also get pops from the speaker occasionally and can here the same gsm noises at the end of calls.
the phone never did it before the rma and software upgrade so its going back.
just thought i would let you know its not just you.
i think some of the earlier hardware has an issue with the latest O2 rom.
