I tried searching but oculdn't find an answer. How long did it take for the first CID Unlocking programs to be released from the time of release of the phone. Like if the wizard was released, janaury of 05, how long after did it take? reason is that the excalibur/dash still doesn't have a free method and its been out for a while and I currently have the Tmobile wing/herald and I don't wanna pay the $38 to get it cid unlocked if theres a possibility a free one comes out soon. Thanks for any answers

Hi all,
It's a question that's probably been asked before, but the search yields too any results to find the answer!
What I need to know is whether unlocking the HD2 will officially void its warranty? I can get a new boxed HD2 for £370 delivered from my provider, or even cheaper on fleabay if I look for locked handsets.
Is the process easily reversable? I really can't afford to have HTC say no to repair should anything happen to the device!
Also, if I buy used on ebay, is the warranty based on the serial/IMEI of the handset, i.e. I will definitely have (just under) 24 months of dedicated HTC repair?
Thanks fellow HTC lovers!
I'd like to know this myself
I too have the option of buying directly from my network which adds a bit more comfort than buying from ebay! But if I'm saying goodbye to the warranty then it's a big risk......
I think it voids the warranty. Reversal is usually as easy as unlocking it.

Sim unlocking your phone does not void the warranty, but cid unlock does.
The difference in buying a unlocked phone or a carrier locked phone is the Sim.
If you buy a phone on ebay, the HTC warranty will only be for the remainder of the 1 year warranty that starts when the serial # is registered to a network upon activation of the phone, unless the seller is a commercial operation providing their own warranty.
^Correct...CID unlocking will void the warranty!
Many thanks for the advice above!
I decided to go for an factory unlocked (sim free) HD2 that I managed to pick up for a (well, kinda...) reasonable price, or as reasonable as prices for these things go!
Though I haven't even got it yet - I'm already looking into the different cooked roms available, despite knowing that by many accounts the official HTC WWE rom will be stable and work well for most stuff.
I see the hackers here have developed two ways of flashing custom stuff to the HD2 - via HardSPL (allows you to flash anything) and via SSPL (which from what I can gather only allows you to flash the rom/OS, nothing else)
I've always flashed HardSPL to my older HTC devices as I've got them used without any warranty and therefore know that if anything goes wrong it's down to me (or xda's advice) to fix.
HSPL obviously makes things a lot easier to recover from and gives peace of mind, but will in this case mean voiding my warranty with HTC as it's permanent?
If I flash for example Artemis 5.0 via SSPL I assume it's reversible with a simple flash of an official HTC ROM, will flashing using it void the warranty at all?
Though I'd love to flash HSPL and just get down to business, voiding the warranty so early on on a device as expensive as this isn't really a risk I'm willing to take (just yet). I know the easiest thing for me to do would be to just ignore any custom stuff and look the other way, but it's not in my nature to do so!
Many thanks again for the advice, I see this thread has managed to make its way to the top of the Google results page for related queries, so hopefully this will help quite a few people out.
Bump!
I'm pretty sure you can undo HardSpl if you need to send your phone for warranty issues. Though this might only be a little difficult if your display is broken for example.
Hi all,
I know that the subject has been asked many times, but I have not found any satisfactory answer to the reason around the web... a small introduction first. I just bought a shiny new HTC Wildfire, but I was somehow scammed by the SFR (a French telephone company) because the employee refused to sell me the unlocked one - and my French was not that competitive with his The difference in the price should have been of 10 euros, now to unlock it SFR asks me 65 euros... which is over the 25% of the cost of the phone! The only alternative I could find was to pay 30 euros to companies I do not know nor trust, and still that amount of money is not negligible. So I started looking for free alternatives, and found none but to wait the 6 months after which it seems that French operators are obliged to unlock it for free.
Now, the real question: I have read (many times) and accepted that rooting and SIM-unlocking are unrelated procedures, yet I couldn't find an answer to why. In my favorite Linux distribution, I open a terminal, write su, and then I can do anything, from unmounting hard disk and making dd on it at my own risk, to rewriting the kernel for fun. As far as I have seen, on Android it is pretty much the same, one gets full access and can even install a brand new OS, let's say Debian. In this picture, how is it possible that I cannot simply turn a flag like "SIM_LOCKED" off, while I can do so just using a magic, expensive, number? In my "naifness" I would think that once I have installed a brand new OS it will accept without questions any SIM I put in it... where am I wrong?
And if you are wondering, yes, it is pretty much a matter of money, I do not estimate a 2-year warranty the 25% of the price of a phone
hello,
i'm not sure i can answer your question, but few weeks ago the french providers decided to give the unlock code for free after 3months ago. So no more 6 months! even if it's still long....
And i'm interested about an answer for your question, my galaxy s is still locked Bouygues telecom...
I've scoured for answers but most of my "unlocking" searches leads to bootloader information which I've already taken care of.
I purchased a Virgin Mobile Canada/Bell Mobility HTC Sensation for my girlfriend yesterday to put on her Rogers account but I'm having a hell of a time getting an unlock code for it. I tried cellunlock.net but they said it'll be upwards of 3 days for an unlock code because the IMEI I gave them isn't on file for them. I've taken a look at a few other websites and they either look shady or they only take credit card or they are shady and charge way too much. I have no experience outside of cellunlock.net but I need this code sooner than later.
Is there another reputable unlock site with Sensation unlock codes that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and takes PayPal direct debit? Also preferably one that is fast? Sorry for making an entire thread dedicated to this but I couldn't find an answer. I'm half tempted to resort to eBay unlockers at this point
I've now had two sites tell me the IMEI for my phone doesn't show up on HTC database therefore they can't get an unlock code. Anyone have any experience with this on Virgin Mobile Canada HTC Sensations?
There is a thread here where you post you dump file and the OP will try to find the unlock code for you from that file hope this helps

Does anyone have a successful way of unlocking the Skyrocket. I just got one from my friend because he now has a new phone so he gave me his old one. I want to unlock it.

Read through the stickies at the tops of the Skyrocket sub forums.
There are several websites that promise you the unlock code for your IMEI after paying them, it works for some people and doesn't for the others..Google search for those websites..
Another option is to try the free unlock method found here in the general forum..
In my opinion,I would pay a few dollars on top of a ten to get an official unlock code..
Excuse the newbie question, but I did a search and couldn't find the exact answer I'm looking for, so I'm tossing it out here.
I am replacing my rooted, S-Off Verizon HTC One (M8). I want to offer it for sale, probably on Swappa.
How exactly do I wipe my stuff off the phone without breaking root, screwing up the S-Off, etc? Give me the first grade, "A, B, C" version, please.
Those phones aren't selling for much right now ... I bought it two years ago and I'll be lucky to get a third of what I paid for it, such is life and the vagaries of technological development ... but I figure the root and the S-Off might make it a little more desirable.
Thanks!
i believe you can use DOTTAT RUU file to wipe it and keep root on it.
