activesync problem - General Topics

hey what's up?
Just wondering if anybody has had any problems with active sync lately. For some reason I can only plug my mda to the computer one time, and if I unplug it active sync won't recognize the mda again until after I restart the whole computer.

if anyone had the same problem I read through the site some and just go to connections to usb-pc and uncheck advanced networking.

active sync acting up?

Hey all, new to the forum.. great site with some great info! I currently own a hermes, and upgraded to wm6.. however, when i connect to active sync through my usb, it gives me this noise (regular usb connect sound doubled) and active sync cannot detect my device. Shortly after it just disconnects and goes to charging. I know this is not a usb port issue because i have tried all ports, connected my digital camera etc etc. What could be the problem? Any help is appreciated... because having 25% of my contacts is a pita!! lol
Are you using the USB cable that came with your phone?
I have many USB devices and find that some of the cables do not work due to the amount of pins that are connected at each end.
Also what version of OS do you use and activesync/WMDC?
I have same problem with WM6 and ActiveSync4.5. I'm using the same USB cable I was prior to upgrading to WM6 and never had any problems back then. Have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling AS but still no luck
Right now, I'm trying to find some other alternatives to AS which can sync Outlook contacts and calendar appointments etc.
Quick question, when you guys connect does activesync get stuck at Retrieving Settings????
I get problems with the actual syncing of information. The device is recognised and sync starts, it just takes ages and can fail sometimes.
Other days it syncs straight away without problems.

Activesync blocks my mobile internet!

Hello,
I was wondering if any one out there could help with this problem, i had a quick search on google and on this forum but to no avail albeit I'm not very good at searching.
When I'm at work (like now) I always have my HTC TYTN checking for new e-mails every 10mins or so... it's very important for me. I always bring my USB charger because this tends to drain the battery a lot.
The problem is when I connect with active sync my phone will not connect my tmobile internet thus it stops receiving emails and won't connect to the internet, only when i unplug my device from the PC it will, I was wondering if anyone else experienced this same problem?? I've played around with a few settings but nothing seems to be working.
Any help will be much appreciated
Goto file/Connection Settings/ click on "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to desktop"/ Click "OK"
For good measures if you are connected, unplug your ppc, close Active Sync, plug back in.
Hi, thank you for your suggestion...
I tried the following but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem
Fresh Start
You may also try deleating your device from Active Sync and then re-establiahing the connection with the above settings. Soft reset your divice at the same time.
Ahh no luck I'm afraid...
I've tried playing around with it afterwards but still to no avail, maybe it just doesn't like my work PC...
It can connect to the mobile internet, however it doesn't want to use that internet to cehck for email even after i set my e-mail to specifically only check for e-mail from my mobile connection, as soon as i unplug the USB cable i can connect no problems...
Thank you for your suggestions.

Activesync won't recognize Raphael,...

hello everyone,
I cannot get Activesync to recognize my htc touch pro no matter what i do,... i've uninstalled and reinstalled shut everything off then on, followed all of MS's advice, and nothing works,...
Any suggestions,...? No problems connecting my tytn II and my hermes,...
thanks,
ek
Are you running any firewall software? If so, this is relevant to you.
start>>settings>>connections>>usbtopc>> un check the "enable advanced network functionality"
sorry attnoob, was trying for your quick fix, but it didn't work,... thanks anyway,... now will go to the firewall issues noted above, but i already opened the ports as per ms's recommendations in help,...
will try other suggestions and get back to you,...
ok, so allenh, read all the info at the link you sent me, and actually did all these things yesterday, but it didn't work,... also, something strange happens when i hook the device to the PC in that, the device immediately goes to the 'internet sharing' program you use when tethering, it establishes a connection with the internet, and there is a comments saying 'check usb cable connection' and this never happened with the tytn II,...
your help is appreciated,...

Check the USB cable
It seems the USB cable the Tilt uses and the one the Raphael/Fuze use are different, If i use the cable that i usued with my tilt the computer would not recognize the Fuze it will charge it though, only if i use the usb cable that came with the Fuze it works fine.
Are you using the stock ROM or a cooked ROM. Some of the new cooked ROMS are having this problem.
Also, are you using Vista or XP. The problems seem to be with XP.
my fuze seems to also be having this issue... i can hear my laptop do the little noise saying something is attached but my phone never pops up with the screen anymore asking what i would like to do. sometimes i get lucky and it will randomly connect to active sync but would not give me any warning whether it was going to work or not.
btw, it didnt start doing this until i flashed NATF's v2.1 and also loaded a custom theme and toolbars and such.... it worked after i loaded NATF's rom, just randomly stopped at some point after that.
if you are putting on a new rom then put the phone in bootloader mode it worked for me

My Fuze is doing this too, excep every single time. I can't get Activesync to work through USB. And I'm running the stock ROM. Internet Sharing automatically connects.
Okay, I set Internet Sharing to Bluetooth PAN (instead of USB), which kept it from automatically starting when I plugged in the USB. This let ActiveSync and the 'choose a connection type' startup on my Fuze and everything has been fine.
Try your PC Network settings
Hi,
I have the same problem recently. My AS does not want to recognize my Raphael. What I did was go to the network setting of the PC (Network Connections) and disable the 1394 adapter. Then my AS now can recognize my Raphael. The next unsolved thing is how to make the connection stable enough to make happen the syncing.

Hi, I had similar problem. Once upon a time the connection between my Touch Pro (WM6.5.3) and PC stopped working. Activesync did nothing and after a minute gave error message with troubleshoot guide. So I opened control panel ---> device manager (with mobile connected via USB), where I found "Windows mobile based device" between network adapters. I opened it and under it's advanced settings I found "network address" which was set to "unavailable". So I changed it to 192.168.2.2 and now it works again ;-)
Hope it helps someone ;-)

Strange problem with USB connectivity

I have a strange problem with a HTC Touch PRO. Here is my problem:
- I insert the USB cable and the phone asks if I want to use mass storage or activesync
-the phone shows a connection on the screen
-The PC is not sensing anything, the activesync is not connected.
I think this problem appeared after I used a wrong usb cable...
Anyone knows anything what to try? or this is a hardware problem?
Did you select ACTIVESYNC?
There are 2 modes this phone can do..
1) Standard ActiveSYNC or
2) AS a MASS STORAGE DEVICE -like a flash drive...
You have to select ActiveSYNC to actually SYNC software/calendar, else it will show up as just another drive to drag/drop files..
Yes i did it in every way and the computer is not sensing the connection with the phone.
Anyone know what kinf of hardware is responsible for the connection with the pc?

The problem is likely with your operating system on your pc.
You can try things like, un-installing the HTC usb driver in device manager.
Check your firewall.
- allow activesync for trusted
- I know for ZoneAlarm you have to go to the adapters section and set the ipaddress (a new one is created when your phone is hooked up via USB) to be trusted.
If that doesn't fix issue perhaps its a corrupt install of ActiveSync. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I've had this happen to me. I've got so many USB to mini-USB cables and they are not all alike.
Sometimes, it would work and sometimes activesync would not recognize it.
CHANGE YOUR CABLE to another. Hopefully, you've labeled the original cable that came with the phone..
(also, look at the mini cable where it plugs into your phone. Make sure there are no loose pins and/or verify that the 'plug' is level.
Try a different USB port
Try unchecking "use advanced network configuration" in Async settings on the phone. Some computers (for various reasons) have a hard time communicating with the phone when it's configured as a network device - unchecking this will often allow Async to find and connect to the phone, at the expense of some other functionality.
coincendentally i am having the same exact issue, it started last night.
i have tried 3 different cords, on all 3 usb ports on my computer. same thing the phone asks what kind of connection i want whether i select disk drive ofr active sync noting happens. whats weird is that the phone is charging when its connected however the computer is not seeing it at all.
i have tried all the recommendations in this thread but nothing is working. anymore help would be greatly apprciated!
Me too I have tryed everything but none is working.
I think that this a hardware problem, and the problem started to happen after i used a non HTC cable, bad quality. I think some kind of controller is dead. So i started to live with that
When I connteced to the PC via USB, my TP also asked me how to connect (AS or as disc). But suddenly it doesn't ask anymore. I had to deactivate "advanced network configuration" to conntect to AS.
The checkbox "ask each time USB connects" is activated.
What can I do that the phone asks again when I connect it?
Thx.
I have the same thing going on... suddenly a few days ago my fuze only charges when I plug it in the desktop with a usb cable... I re-flashed and it worked about halfway through a sync and then started again... I've tried different cables... uninstalled all of the usb drivers, and reinstalled then updated them... Disconnected the power supply... tried every setting on my phone, and in windows.... I've even uninstalled the last batch of windows updates that came out last week... nothing seems to work...
really simple solution.
decheck advanced network config. plug in cable wait till you see usb connected. a small box. after that choose for example activesync
internet share
This happened to me last night and I figured out that after you toggle your internet sharing you can sync up again. Idk why it works out like that but it worked for me.
This sound reasonable, because the last thing I did before was selecting the "internet sharing" option in the menu when you connect to USB.
But what do you mean with "toggle your internet sharing"? Can you please describe it.
Thx.
try this
okay - first see if you're getting an active connection with your pc , not from the network connections window, but by running mymobiler. I was getting a connection through mymobiler, but active sync wasn't recognizing the device. If mymobiler works, Call your phone. it will drop your connection with mymobiler when you answer the call. then hang up the phone call. (all the while leaving your cable plugged into your phone. When the call has been disconnected your activesync will recognize the connection and sync up again. I don't know why this works, but I've been able to duplicate the results several times.
Same htc ****+ wm. Bought an iphone 3g. Everything must be tuned in windows mobile! It doesn't work how it should!
None of this seems to be working... I've even flashed new roms and it stops working halfway through the sync... it doesn't even appear as though windows recognizes the device... it makes no noise or pop-up when I connect it...
Still charges though... Don't know what is going on...
Reinstall Mobile Device Manager!

I've experienced this issue multiple times, as I use my TP to sync with many stations. The solution is way more simple than you think and it has nothing to do with cables!.
You probably use Win Vista so all you need is to uninstall "Windows Mobile Device Center", restart the PC and install a fresh copy from MS site.

If you're on XP, do the same with the Active sync solution for XP.
Good luck!
yeah this happens to me every now and then. the advanced network configuration option really helps, but sometimes i just need to plugin/unplug the usb cable from teh phone/cable or cable/computer a couple more timesbefore it picks it up...
goodluck!

Active Sync: connected but device not detected

Hi evryone,
I have these days a curious problem with Active Sync (that worked very well before with: Active Sync 4.5, Asus P525 WM6.5):
The usb connection work fine: the phone is charged, the storage card is visible when I turn on "USB mode", connection test show: USB connected
but the sync can not work because "device not detected".
I don't install anything neither make any change on my PDA before that.
Could anyone help me?
Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee
Many Thanks by advance
can you recall doing anything that could've done this? any application installation maybe?
Thanks Nir for your replay, i found the problem: it was a bug of Active Sync!, I reinstalled Active Sync IN REPAIR mode (remove Active Sync and reinstall anew one would not work) and all go fine again.
delete any partnerships on both device and pc, start a fresh. Also try turning off "enable faster data sync" in usb to pc.
damn you got in there quickly lol
kool at least its resolved lol
