wm5 and wm6 compatibility - General Topics

Is wm5 software fully compatible with wm6 platform? Any restrictions? I mean, will any program which worked on wm5 phone work on a wm6 phone?
Where can I find a full&detailed changelog between wm5 and wm6?

overall it seems just about anything designed for WM5 will work on WM6. Personally, i havent found anythign that doesnt yet but i'll be sure to post if I do.

If you think WM6 as WM5 SE(which it really is), then you'll get the big picture better.

Same here. I'm even using a couple of apps with WM6 that I used with my Dell Axim running PPC2002.

Thinking of rolling back to WM5

Hey,
When I bought my Universal from ebay it already came with WM6 (a very buggy version, not sure from where). So I never really had the chance to test WM5.
I'm mostly having problems installing Hebrew support on the cooked roms. For instance PDAC (one of the companies who make hebrew for PPC) told me that because their software detects my device as WM5 their licensing system won't allow me to install (by the way, is there a work around this problem? This is all legit of course I want to buy this software).
I'm not going to ask what are the official differences because I can find more than enough about it on the web, but is there really a technical reason to stay with a cooked WM6 (being somewhat buggy)? Besides being prettier are the cooked roms giving any advantage over WM5 ? From my understanding both operating systems are pretty much the same besides the included software.
Thanks
[edit]
By the way I want to emphasize that I REALLY TRULY appreciate the effort spent into making these cooked roms. SERIOUSLY. This isn't a complaint thread!
[/edit]
Yeah im think about downgrading but to be honest just flash with a good WM6 rom and then wait a bit and more software will come out its still a new OS and i like being like the elite few lol with WM6 thanks to XDA Developers!

Perhaps I will downgrade temporarily. My main concern is Hebrew support. Besides that everything else works just fine.
I would like to roll back to WM5 as well and tried Jwright's and Helmi's one. Both of them gave me surprising stable and reasonable fast experience. But one thing keeps me coming back to WM6 is the WAY MORE intelligence way of dialing a phone.
I am now still looking for a WM5 rom which is as stable as those I had quoted and WITH the Smartdialing function.
Any ideas? please share.
Thanks

What's the smart-dialing function? I never had WM5 so I don't know the difference in dialing.
I just gave up on this idea after seeing how horrible WM5 is :/
And I actually managed to install Hebrew support! Yay!

WM5 horrible? wtf?
I you dont use video call, and you don't mind the bugs of WM6 with WiFi and MMS. Then stick with WM6. Otherwise.. use WM5.

From the things I saw in the official O2 installation I made:
- Sim contacts don't appear as regular contacts
- Outlook looks like the horrible outlook I had in my old PocketPC2002
- The phone dialer is not responsive and very buggy
- Overall slower than WM6
I'm personally not having any problems with WiFi in WM6.
And yeah I don't use video call or MMS I don't use any G3 features.
Oh.. you used the official WM5 from O2. I wouldn't use that myself.. too darn slow and lots of missing features. I'm using Jwright's ROM... anyway, it's just personal preference. I'd rather have all the features that my Universal can offer with WM5 rather than have a better looking WM6 ROM with buggy and missing features.
Highly Recommend To Try Kamal's WM5 ROM (AKU 3.5)
I recommend to try Kamal's WM5 ROM. You guys won't regret it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319838

WM6 on Wizard - performance?

Hi All,
Got Mr Clean AKU 2.3 on my Wizard and it's working very nicely.
However, having now found out that I *can* run WM6 and still sync to Outlook 2000 at work, I'm tempted to put WM6 on it.
I use batterystatus to overclock, but I'm a bit worried that something like the TNT professional WM6 ROM might be, well, overstretching the Wizard.
What's performance like with the WM6 roms on a G3 Wizard?

You won't be disappointed.
Same here. No way I'm switching back to WM5 even if most WM6 custom roms sometimes need a soft reset...
Try it and you won't go back! The only reason I'm flashing mines back to WM5 is because I'm selling it to buy the Hermes

I guess it depends on where you are selling your wizard, or who the buyer is, but on eBay if you advertise that you have WM6 installed, the phone will usually sell for more.
^ I know, I did that when I sold the himalaya, I said it had WM5 and Tomtom I sold it for the same price I bought my wizard for.. lol
But the guy I'm selling the wizard to wants the original rom on it.
WM6 ROM's performance is most of the time less responsive. However Pagepool size on the ROM greatly enhances the performance of the device.
The speed of the ROM "responsiveness" Depends on the ROM base, presinstalled apps, start up apps, page pool, available RAM.
You have to try it to decide which one is best for you. You wont be dissapointed. Overclocking WM6 ROMs works like WM5 ROMs son dont worry push the pedal to the metal.
right. will try one on monday. what's the best rom out at the moment for the wizard? the tnt one? does touchflo cube slow it down too much? ideally i'd like a pretty tricked-out rom that performs well, with the option to add the frills via cab install at a later date if wanted...

Installing (downgrading) Wm5 on Kaiser

Hello all gurus!
Firs off, sorry if this already is mentioned, but I tried a search.
I am developing some apps, and they do not run on WM6 for some reason, what's worse is that I need to demo them and all I have is a TyTnII (Kaiser).
Does anyone here know if / how to downgrade this to a WM5??
The phone is HTC / Unlocked so there are no restrictions.
Thanks.
Shouldnt you rather be looking for solution to get the apps working on WM6? You will get much more of interested users also by getting them to work on WM6.
This doesnt seem to make a lot of sense...
no, is not possible, not exist wm5 rom.bye
Thanks all for the reply.
I will of course port the app to WM6, but I dont have time for the demo.
My firm is saying goodlink cannot be installed on my Tilt, but can be installed on WM5. I think I need to go through my firm in order to install the program.
That's funny....Because I just setup a, free from AT&T, goodlink server for a company with 30 Tilts.
Like others have mentioned, I doubt you'll be able to do it since there are no Kaisers developed with WM5.
why u request Wm5
WM6 is more better I think you should ask for WM7 Not WM5
I beleive its possible!
You'll have to do all the work.....
Start with Alex's Kitchen, find a WM5 Rom (I suggest you use a factory Rom but I do have some cooked ROMs from some of the best Chefs that alot of you don't know of), Dump it, Compatible Radio (I have those also), and a spare Kaiser just in case.
If you're really serious...it could be done. If you look around, there isn't an all Kaiser Rom around. They're all chopped & mixed up.

I agree with dwny. However, you would be ill advised to spend downgrading your demo device to WM5. You should be spending the time to improve the product and ensure that it works on other platforms besides WM5.
Hope this helps!

WM5 AKU 3.5 for the Kaiser

wondering if it was possible.
Am not liking WM6 that much afterall.
Sorry, don't think it's possible. Why you wanna downgrade? WM6=perfected WM5(bugfixes and all, though it's still buggy, as Microsoft always is)
what don't you like about WM6 that you prefer about WM5?
i guess it's the speed.
I'm on Dutty v4 now, and perhaps I should stick to WM6.

You are probably noticing the missing video card drivers that plagues the Tilt and many recent HTC devices.

GPS s/w (MapKing 2007) not working in WM6.1

As in topic, i've tried to flash to a couple of cooked WM 6.1.
but sad to say, my MapKing just won't load up.
got hang up & it just sit there whole day.
any solution?
can't live w/o the GPS.
You're using G10 or R12 version of MapKing? As far as Ive seen, R12 is the newer version and it takes a hell lot of memory compared to G10.
I wish Google Maps were offline
Regards,
Carty..
yes, go back to 6.0
wtf is up with ppl upgrading to 6.1 and then *****ing that some software doesnt work

do u've a solution for mi?
it's not working on my TyTN II as well as Cruise.
i'm not sure if it's with the WM6.1 or the s/w itself.
i bet u're just trying to clock more post by posting some sh|t around.
if ppl like you did more research instead of posting crap like this, the ppl like me dont need to clock more post by posting useless ****.
if you did search you might find that some ppl are having problems using gps with 6.1, not the same software but some might apply to your case, there is even someone who confirms that mapking 2007 works on 6.1
I have MK2007 and have used it with no problems using Duttys 6.1 UC ROM... didnt do anything special except run GPSTool (or QuickGPS) before hand and it picked up about 5 or 6 sats....
you gotta put more info then that. Has it worked before? Do you know the software is compatible? Are you sure you are using the right settings? COM4??? Has other software work okay on your device? Try GPStool and see if you can even pick up GPS satelittes at all.
MK just won't load up, i can't even get into the MK.
okie: here's my update.
MK 2007 doesn't seems to work, i've try the original MapKing R12 (Bundle) & it works like a charm.
did it on my TyTN II, now even SPB Clone is working.
will try out on the Cruise later.
