[FIX] WLM Contact Sync - General Topics

im not sure if another fix has been found before. but this one is rather easy and quick.
but i finally found a fix:
- get PIM backup.
- do a full backup of your contacts
- make your live account on your phone
- delete all your contacts (can be done in PIM backup)
- restore all your original contacts again..
voila!
works perfectly!

How can I remove a phantom email account?

I updated my FUZE to the new ROM. Before doing that I used Sprite to backup everything except for System Data (and my memory card).
After the update I used Sprite to restore everything. Among that was the contents of my imap email account. However when I went into the Inbox, there was no email account so I could not open or access of the old messages that I can scroll through on the email page. I tried to create an email account but it told me there was already an account with that name (it seems like there is, but I can't access it).
I did a master reboot to clear everything out and before I restored from Sprite, I created the email account again. But when I did the restore, the same thing happened as before.
I know I can deselect email in the restore options but doing that means that it doesn't restore any SMS/MMS messages which I want.
Where is the email account data? Somewhere in the registry? If so, where? After I do a restore, would it be safe for me to find that account data and delete it so I can create it for real? I don't want to keep any of that old email.
Thanks.
Well here's what you should do. Restore your Sprite backup.
Download and install "PIMBackup" and do a full backup with it.
Go into the registry and delete the email account from HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Inbox
Reboot
Check your Message app to see if the email account is gone. Set it back up.
Restore your stuff from PIMBackup. Ditch Sprite
Sprite backups are great but restore lots of stuff. Sprite has the ability to restore bugs and bad registry keys. PIMBackup JUST backs up the information therefore it is the best and even works across multiple flashes without screwing anything up. I actually set up an XML file to load on first boot using UC (most custom roms use this) that sets up my Email account automatically, then a simple PIMBackup restores everything back.

Maybe a little excessive! but Player is right, Sprite is no good for restoring after flashing a new rom (use pimbackup).
Sprite is great for backing everything up, hard reset, restore - exactly the same so its great for trying new settings, software etc etc.
I didn't want to confuse anything here but I actually did use PIM (I've used it for regular backups and migration for over a year). I used it before using Sprite. But after doing a restore, my device became EXTREMELY slow, to the point where it took roughly 5-10 seconds to open up a single txt msg. So I did a master reset and then did a restore from Sprite (which is what brought me here).
If I restore from Sprite again (and it will give me that phantom email again), think I can just delete the reg key? Would it delete the contents of this invisible Inbox? Should it have any negative effects?
Thanks.
Can you delete the reg key - yep!
will this remove the contents of the ghost account - i dont think so, but the account wont exist, so you shouldnt be able to get to these messages
Any negative effects? - almost certainly! but not from removing the spurious reg key. Using sprite to backup, then changing the rom, then restoring sprite will almost always leave some annoying, odd or unusual behaviour. Simply because when you changed the rom, you changed (a few) what reg keys are required and what they are called (mail accounts generate a unique guid when you create them, which is where the ghost account has probably come from)
Restoring a pim backup avoids this, as it simply puts the database info back on - leaving windows to worry about reg keys etc - i'm not sure why it was so slow before, maybe trying again & a couple of soft reboots could help - or maybe the pim backup is screwy, try making a new one.
Good luck!
FWIW, when I updated the ROM I did as the HTC website instructions say and did not choose to backup any system data in Sprite (they say this avoids copying the registry).
So anyway, what will delete the contents of the ghost account?
Or maybe I'm thinking about this the wrong way - maybe instead of deleting the contents of that ghost account, would I be able to create a new account through the registry? Or rename a (real/functional) account in the registry? (when I have the ghost account and try to create an account with the same name normally, it tells me the account exists...even though it kinda doesn't)
I think the problem I am having with PIM seems to be too many message. I say this because the number of messages goes up for a long time and that's when it takes forever to load messages. I found that it settles down after a few hours but even then it still takes about 2-3 seconds to open a single txt msg.
Thanks.

Any app in Android can restore contact from PIMBackup backup file

Any app in Android can restore contact from PIMBackup backup file
have some problem with u, n i wasn't found any application to convert that file..
(i want migrating from winmo to android)
try this way, (sorry i can't write link in this forum coz newbie)
search on google with key "sprite mobile" (migrating contact, messaging, log call data)
it's like PIM backup on winmo
Hello,
I had solved the problem by
- deleting exchange account on winmo iphone
- setting up my gmail account as imap in winmo
- sync contacts etc. Between phone and gmail account
- using the gmail account w/ my new android device.
You can find some guides w/ a google search about how Toso configure gmail with winmo.

I just moved from WinMo to android and faced the same situation.
I first made a fresh PIM backup in case anything went sour. I setup activesync to sync with gmail (Google has a step by step tutorial that's based on WinMo 6.1 but it's fairly easy to figure out) This is where things can go sour, like doubling of contacts or appointments. If all goes well you'll have everything in your gmail account (it might take a while though).
If you have any pocket notes, and aren't synced with Outlook, you'll need to manually copy and paste them into OneNote Mobile. Then copy them to your desktop and open them in One Note.
use Sprite Mobile
i was successfuly transfer all contact and their field, messaging and call history

Or, try this.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
or activesync with google http://www.google.com/support/mobile...&answer=138636
Hi
As a noob to android, I wanted to ask step by step converting winmo PIM backup file to android. Which includes migrating contacts, messages, log call data etc)
Is this doable. Can any one advice. PLZ.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, i have a HTC HD2 running WM - Energy ROM and Android - Core Droid HD V0.2 and i want to use my contacts in Android.
I did as Dblfstr said, but the file i got from PIMBackup was contacts_20101206.pbc
I use PIM Backup v2.8.0.0
I did not mark "compress backup" and "binary backup" but still the file is some how binary and it shows garbage when opened by an editor.
Does somebody have another solution to this problem?
ThX!
forget about using pimbackup,i already tried everything and did nothing...
try using outlook, simply export the contacts to CSV and import them in google
or send them via bluetooth (for those who have 2 devices)
there were quite a few contacts that were saved on my phones internal memory before i switched to android. Unaware of these contacts, and unaware of proper procedure to restore the pim backup once android was up and running. I created the standard backup with compression enabled and all default specifications. Can I restore the contacts with the default pimbackup method?
thanks

I have the same problem in that I didn't know about the compression. Is there any way to uncompress and will I be able to restore text messages as I'm not really worried about call logs, emails and contacts?
EDIT: I found the solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12975806&postcount=13

Backup program that backup both contacts and contact thumbs?

Will MyBackupPro or Titanium Backup do this?
Lets say i get a new android phone, and want to backup/restore contacts with contact the contact thumbnails. Going to be a drag adding 200 pictures each time i change phones
bump!
need one as well
"Yes, MyBackup Pro will also backup the contacts icon picture."
Found that on android forums.
http://androidforums.com/htc-desire...pictures-before-factory-reset.html#post854116
Seems MyBackupPro will do the job then.
If anyone can confirm this, id be greatfull.
Also found this:
"If your contacts are Google ones then the details and photos will be re-synced back to you phone after the update, Have a look at your Gmail account on a pc and check. "
Any way to easy convert phone contacts to google contacts? (Cant find Contactsync anymore on market, this app should do the trick)
I have alot of contacts, and dont want to do each one manualy. I tried to set up contacts sync to make it sync with gmail, but it will only sync google contacts it seems.

[Q] Phone account gone

uninstalled various apps using titanium back-up and my phone account for contacts is gone. Only gmail account for contacts available now. All the stuff i deleted were ok to delete on froyo. Anyone has any idea which app causes that? Possible candidates are lg pc suite, email, richnote ,social and a few more. Since i need to reinstall the rom everytime it is a bit annoying to try and eliminate each and every one of them so i was wondering if anyone has pinpointed the problem so far. And no if i make a backup of the apps i uninstall with titanium back up and then restore it my phone account doesn't return...
I can't help with what apps may cause it but you might find it easier to go into the settings menu of your phone and go to the part of it showing your applications and look at the permissions required to see what apps need sms or contact related permissions.
I can say that you are able to back up phone contacts with Titanium Backup and restore them which should mean that even if an app uninstalls them you can simply restore the contacts from an sd card.
Haven't used Titanium for a while so had to look up how to backup contacts for you but apparently this should be all you need to do in order to backup your contacts with it (copied and pasted from another websites support pages so not my instructions)....
1 - Open Ti Backup
2 - Select the 'Backup/Restore' tab
3 - Select the 'menu' button to bring up some options in this tab
4 - Select 'Batch' (there a bunch of pre-programmed choices)
5 - Option 3 <RUN> 'Backup all user apps+system data'
6 - This will open another window where you can view all the items that are going to be backed up one of which is 'CONTACTS/CALLS' among a bunch of other items.
7 - Select 'Run Operation' at the top and the backup will start
8 - Be sure to copy the contents to your local machine HD for safe keeping
If that is done you shouldn't have a problem with contacts again, alternatively you can also sync contacts with gmail so your phone contacts can be restored that way as well.
Dave
for some strange reason lg pc sync caused it. when I uninstall it my phone contacts account is gone. Not sure if it is happening to me only though...

Google account over-sync contacts

Hi everybody! I've tryed to found an answer for my problem on google 'cuz ofc, it's a google type problem, and haven't found any answers. So my problem sound's like... probablly I've synced to many times my phone contacts before flashing a new custom rom (but not on this device). Now I realize that my contacts are multiplied, but not visual (I will post a ss to show you).
What I want from you guys...how do I delete from my google account all synced contacts? Ore how do I disable this function from it 'cuz it gets my contacts automaticlly after the system or whatever it is, see's that I don't have any contact on my phone...?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
When you're setting up the new ROM, after you sign in to your Gmail, it will ask if you want to restore data to your phone. Uncheck that option, or go to sync settings and disable contact sync from there.
Also Uncheck " backup my data " from backup and restore in settings.
I use go backup to backup all my contacts, texts and call logs. Try that.
