Google account over-sync contacts - General Questions and Answers

Hi everybody! I've tryed to found an answer for my problem on google 'cuz ofc, it's a google type problem, and haven't found any answers. So my problem sound's like... probablly I've synced to many times my phone contacts before flashing a new custom rom (but not on this device). Now I realize that my contacts are multiplied, but not visual (I will post a ss to show you).
What I want from you guys...how do I delete from my google account all synced contacts? Ore how do I disable this function from it 'cuz it gets my contacts automaticlly after the system or whatever it is, see's that I don't have any contact on my phone...?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

When you're setting up the new ROM, after you sign in to your Gmail, it will ask if you want to restore data to your phone. Uncheck that option, or go to sync settings and disable contact sync from there.
Also Uncheck " backup my data " from backup and restore in settings.
I use go backup to backup all my contacts, texts and call logs. Try that.

[Q] Change room but keep my merged contacts

I want to change my htc magic rom and wipe all of my stats (the phone is to slow because it had lots of roms flashed without wipe)

is there any tip to help?

[Q] Android 2.3 sync .vcs buggy or mod or something other?

Hi!
Someone day I was jumped to android 2.3 with HyperDroidGBX from Win.
Migrate was very easy =)
I want a sync all my contacts... And I was did it, but I have a next Q:
I was tested to sync some contacts, by default - from gmail. Its was done.
Next, I was try to sync phone contacts from Win (_each_ saved as separated .vcs) - some contacts doesn't sync (error in vcs format), but some was synced (mode: all .vcs from SD)! Next, I was fixed format in "corrupted" files, and try to sync again. Contacts was sync before is duplicated! Ok...
1. Why I cant delete a group accs (I cant MANAGEMENT groups)?!
But I clear all data from "contacts storage" (Settings - Appli - Management Appli - (filter: ALL) Contacts( and Phone)) Storage. Ok, no problem - 0 bytes in storage.
Im tried to sync ALL my contacts from .vcs (from SD).
Ok, no problem - no errs - all ok... But _NO_ONE_ contact in phone book!!! But size in storage is increased ( != 0 bytes) => storage has my data, but I cant see it! But, if I export _one_ contact - I see it data, and I can to setup it by "favorite" contact - its fine worked & visibly.
2. WTF ^^ ? I dont know how a fix this problem\bug...
Ok.. Im reinstall mod, sync again (to clearly storage base) and fun...
offtop.
I see many instructions - how sync contacts from Outlook to Android.
More is peace of ****!!!
If U wanna do it easly:
1. Select all u accs in Outlook
2. In menu - resend contacts - as visit card.
3. In opened window (e-mail) - again select all accs, and copy it by mouse into some directory. You has each contact (separated) on .vcs files!
4. Copy it to u SD, and sync by "import\export -> all from SD" in u "phone contacts" menu.

[Q] About backup programms

What app is the best or recommended before flashing a new rom?One that saves contacts sms apps etc. Thanks for any suggestion.
there are two possibilities:
1)titanium backup: for apps & system options (wifi network, BT device etc)
contacts: there is google sync, enable it; else in the contact app there is import/export menu (it save a .csv file in your sd)
i prefer for the sms: sms backup & restore link
2) if you want an all in one G Cloud Backup

adb backup and restore contacts issue

Hey,
i just did the following:
- installed SDK on my win7 PC
- managed to create a backup file with the "adb backup -all" command (the file is 300MB+) not sure why its called "-all" so far it looks like it backed only the app-settings
- synched my device with my google account
- did a factory reset
- logged into my google account
- several contacts are missing and i also dont see them in my googlemail accounts
- i restore the backup with the "adb restore 'filepath'" command it says successfully restored
- the missing contacts are still not in my contacts, BUT somehow they are in the phone. For example, when i dial "783" for "STE", the Name and Number of one of the missing contacts (in this example Steven) does appear above the dialpad and it even has a big "S" with a colored circle in the back (contact list icon) with it.
- when i press the name/number, nothing happens
- when i press the contact list icon, i get a system message that reads like "this contact doesnt exist" and i get kicked to my homescreen
- BONUS: i synched again with my google account and now the "hidden" missing contacts are all gone again.
- i want all my contacts back. what can i do?
I know this sounds strage and I dont have any clue how this could be solved, so - any info/feedback would be great!
Thanks,
L3O
You have allready deleted your contacts on gmail server. So, anytime you try to restore them and than sync, this contacts will gone.
Best option to get them all back is to restore, (not sync with Google yet), get some 3rd party app to sync contacts with PC, than sync with Google and at the end sync contacts from yout PC to phone as edited.

Thanks for your quick reply! :good:
Meanwhile i also tried to restore the backup without sync with Google. Same scenario as before, only without the Google Contacts. That means, in this case my contac list is empty, but i still can see the missing contacts when I dial (for example 783, like in the example above).. I think that means they are on my phone, but not listed in my contact list - do you have any idea where these contacs may have been saved?
And can you suggest a 3rd party software for the workaround you mentioned in your commend?

I've solved situations like this with MyPhoneExplorer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client , http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ (PC Client).
BE CAREFUL when install PC client; there is a lot of malware during installation!

Huh. Or maybe you think about Google Dialer feature named Caller ID?

not sure what this means - the caller id feature links google maps entries with a number you are calling, right? how can this feature be helpful for my issue?
meanwhile i tried myphonexplorer and every app that might contain the missing contacts (ie. facebook app).
i have a whole lot of contacts now, many only containig an email adress, but still the same problem as before:
some of the contacts are only displayed in the dial window, but i cant call them and they are not in my contact list. also myphoneexplorer doesnt list them
so, my guess is, that adb backup restored some data at some place on my nexus 5 where the phone app can acess them, but the contact list doesnt.
does anyone know where this data might be saved and how i could access it in a way that i can export/sync it?
Thanks!
I seem to remember logging into my google account (on my laptop / desktop) and somewhere within Gmail/ Contacts there was a setting to retroactively restore "older" syncs of my contacts..
For instance I restored my contacts list from a sync a week prior..

for some reason, google dindt sync all the contacts - i guess thats the actual reason i have this mess right now.
meanwhile i decided not to invest any more time in error-tracking, typed all the "ghost contacts" into myphonexplorer by hand and synced it first to my nexus 5 and then to google. i think i lost some though. meh.
Thanks for your help anyways!
