What app is the best or recommended before flashing a new rom?One that saves contacts sms apps etc. Thanks for any suggestion.
there are two possibilities:
1)titanium backup: for apps & system options (wifi network, BT device etc)
contacts: there is google sync, enable it; else in the contact app there is import/export menu (it save a .csv file in your sd)
i prefer for the sms: sms backup & restore link
2) if you want an all in one G Cloud Backup

Hey all,
Since the backup and restore apps from the market are horrifically slow, would manually backing up the SQLite database for Call logs, SMS, MMS and Contacts (the four categories I wish to backup and restore) be the way to go?
More specifically, do the Android 2.1 and Android 2.3 SQLite respective database's (for the categories above) parse the same?

uninstalled various apps using titanium back-up and my phone account for contacts is gone. Only gmail account for contacts available now. All the stuff i deleted were ok to delete on froyo. Anyone has any idea which app causes that? Possible candidates are lg pc suite, email, richnote ,social and a few more. Since i need to reinstall the rom everytime it is a bit annoying to try and eliminate each and every one of them so i was wondering if anyone has pinpointed the problem so far. And no if i make a backup of the apps i uninstall with titanium back up and then restore it my phone account doesn't return...
I can't help with what apps may cause it but you might find it easier to go into the settings menu of your phone and go to the part of it showing your applications and look at the permissions required to see what apps need sms or contact related permissions.
I can say that you are able to back up phone contacts with Titanium Backup and restore them which should mean that even if an app uninstalls them you can simply restore the contacts from an sd card.
Haven't used Titanium for a while so had to look up how to backup contacts for you but apparently this should be all you need to do in order to backup your contacts with it (copied and pasted from another websites support pages so not my instructions)....
1 - Open Ti Backup
2 - Select the 'Backup/Restore' tab
3 - Select the 'menu' button to bring up some options in this tab
4 - Select 'Batch' (there a bunch of pre-programmed choices)
5 - Option 3 <RUN> 'Backup all user apps+system data'
6 - This will open another window where you can view all the items that are going to be backed up one of which is 'CONTACTS/CALLS' among a bunch of other items.
7 - Select 'Run Operation' at the top and the backup will start
8 - Be sure to copy the contents to your local machine HD for safe keeping
If that is done you shouldn't have a problem with contacts again, alternatively you can also sync contacts with gmail so your phone contacts can be restored that way as well.

for some strange reason lg pc sync caused it. when I uninstall it my phone contacts account is gone. Not sure if it is happening to me only though...

There is app "SMS Backup and Restore" on Play Store. You can use it to backup your texts and copy it your PC.
This software can either backup and restore SMS and can backup and restore Contacts, very handy. I've been using and strongly recommend you to use.
OR You can search " obbosoft " in google......

In China, we backup the SMS and contact with several software before flash a new Room
I feel that AST android sms transfer can help you backup and restore all you text messages.
Search "obbosoft or apolsoft" in google.....
They all can solve your problem.
Google sync would be a good option.can be found in ACCOUNTS&SYNC under settings.
Simply add account and sync.after flash sync again.

I chose OBBO Android SMS & Contacts Backup It allows me to transfer and backup your SMS messages & Contacts between android phone and desktop computer.
sms backup + or sms backup & restore from google play. FREE!
Sms backup
SMS Backup & restore work very well.
It create a directory on your SD. copy it on new phone, than select restore.
I will recommend Android Manger to you that all of your texts will be on the cloud. The service has a PC application that will have all your messages on both your PC, Android and cloud. If you change PC or phones just re-install the application and all your texts are back. Plus you can text from your PC using this application as well.
Android Manager
Using apps to save SMS on your phone, and then transfer them to your computer? The way I see it, this is not so good a choice. Why not use some program on your PC and transfer the text messages from your Android to it directly?
Because if you also save it to your MicroSD card you have another backup in case the PC backup doesn't work. Nothing wrong with redundant backups. I also back mine up to my Dropbox account.
Thanks for valuable information. And after my test,I found android assistant tool can make it easily.
Another way is to use Google SMS backup&restore.
A simple app to backup all your data on your Android devices to the same account on the cloud with a cool web interface to view them online.

Google's backup service should be turned on by default after you set up your Android device, but you should double-check that's indeed the case. If you have trouble finding the backup settings by following the steps outlined below, use the search bar in the Settings app to find "backup."
Back up apps, data and settingsTo view your backup settings, open the Settings app on your Android device and tap on System > Backup. There should be a switch labeled "Back up to Google Drive." If it's turned off, turn it on. You can select which Google account you want to use to store your backups by tapping on the Accounts option if you are signed into more than one Google account on your phone.
With backup turned on, your phone will automatically back up the following information:
Contacts
Google Calendar events and settings
Wi-Fi networks and passwords
Wallpapers
Gmail settings
Apps
Display settings (brightness and sleep)
Language and input settings
Date and time
Settings and data for apps not made by Google (varies by app)
You'll see a list of data categories under the Active Backups section, along with the last time that information was backed up. Tap a section, such as App Data, to view more information or fine-tune which apps are backed up. For example, if you tap Photos & Videos, the backup settings page for Google Photos app is automatically opened.
If you're switching from one Pixel phone to another, your home screen layout is backed up and restored. However, I've had mixed luck when restoring a back up from a Pixel to, say, a Motorola phone. Your mileage will undoubtedly vary.
At any time, you can visit this section and tap Back Up Now to manually start a backup. Make sure your phone is connected to a strong Wi-Fi network, and plug it into a charger to speed up the process. If you're upgrading phones, you should manually start a backup before setting up your new phone.
Hope this can help you!
Thanks
