Well, going official doesn't necessarily protect you from bugs. The majority of the cooked roms here don't have major issues (at least not ones that the "official" roms don't have) It will be a while (6 to 8 weeks probably) until we see an official WM6 upgrade for the cingular and/or T-Mobile variants of the hermes. And the newer radios offer major improvements over the "shipped" radios.
Edit: Oops forgot which forum I was in. There most likely will NOT be an official WM6 upgrade for the Wizard devices from Cingular and T-Mobile. The Hermes devices MAY get an upgrade, all new capable phones this year will come with WM6.
the Wizard/MDA/8125 will NOT be getting an official WM6 update. The phone has been discontinued and HTC is not making WM6 ROM for it. Just use one of the cooked ones on here. They are better anyways...

You've been around long enough to know there's no such thing!
A factory ROM is far from being bug free and is the slowest ROM you could ever use.
hah.. true.. ive been through two different htc phones and yea.. i admit the cooks on XDA-Dev are the best of them all.. thanks to all of you
and yes.. they are the fastest
i just wanted the most recent one available, which i guess is .1413 and i have that.. so i guess im waiting for an update

I know how to ugrade my rom Thanks.
When you read the different topics about the different ROM's you will notice that not everyone is thinking the same about every ROM. So you really should try them yourself and decide wich you like the most.

Sad part is the most stable wm6 rom is in chinese so far. I know this wouldnt help you, but you should try each rom and see for yourself. Some of them look good in the beginning, then it starts crashing within a week. Give aku 3.3 a try or re-evaluate do you really need wm6 or aku3.3 (they are no official release for prophet) anyway good luck, hope you find what you are looking for.
I'am not a Geek but after use WM6 it's appear that he is more speed and more funnyier to us as WM5. So I prefer a rom with some bug but with more powerfull instead another bugless and more slowly. I Try the WM6 Rom WM6 PDA Mobiz. Yet no big problem
As the title really - since HTC and various carriers have now released Official WM6 ROMs for some devices (Hermes, Herald etc), is anyone working on porting one of these over to the Wizard?
The build of the Official Hermes ROM is 5.2.1437 (Build 17944), I am sure a lot of Wizard users would like to see this, me included
Andy
yep..i'd like to see it too
eluth is doing so with the Herald/T-Mo Wing ROM.
nice to hear...
i must ask: what is the point?
to get to land of unstability?
what gain you are predicting....
Nothin, I'm inclined to agree. 15342 is the most stable build I've used yet. The Herald ROM doesn't even have Office 2003, VoIP or even the latest Windows Live. The only advantage I can think of is that the XIP section from the Herald perhaps allows you to pack more into the ROM. This is borne out by the fact that the Herald has the same amount of memory as the Wizard, yet the dump shows up around 135 mb on disk which is way more than the Wizard .nb can handle without thowing an error in build_imgfs.
If anyone can do it, eluth probably can, but I don't think many people will be joining in developing this one. I just lost my Wizard and though I have a brand new one coming , it's probably a G4 and I have a little catching up to do on that end before I can even think of something of this magnitude.

I was thinking to maybe increase stability.....
I agree 15342 is probably the most stable release so far, however up until these official releases everthing so far has been pre-release stuff that has been leaked whether it was originally from a Wizard or not.
I still have issues with 15342, plus a lot of the underlying software is at least a year old. I would just like something new to play with......
Andy
any update if anyone working on the Official Release from HTC for Hermes / Dopod 838 pro / etc?
It is nice if we can feel the stability of this official release. Thanks.
Does anybody have a link to an extracted version of one of these roms? By extracted, I mean the actual files and rgu's.
This is what I am running on my Wizard and in my opinion, it is by far the best and fastest. No problems, Microsoft voice command is built in and works perfect. WiFi connects without a hitch, Bluetooth pairs and stays connected.....It is missing MMS and has office 2003. If you need MMS, there are many versions posted that you can add.

I think you are dreaming. You are talking about rting a rom from one device (yes where it is stable) to another, then grafting drivers for the wizard onto it plus whatever else it will take/need and then you think it will be stable? 15431 and 15432 only became stable through lots of work and trial and error. I'm still not convinced they are any more stable thann the "official" 318 rom (and that isn't as stable as it was originally due to the updating and grafting done in most of those).
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for porting, but don't expect a stable rom on one device to keep the stability on another device.
BTW: I still think a lot of the newer WM6 builds have nothing new in them other than support for newer hardware or specifics for a carrier.

Ok, thanx for the advice. I am too, currently stick to the clean Official wizard ROM, which found to be most stable and fast. Though, I have tested a lot of ROM out there.
I don't know how well a ROM from another device would work on ours but over in the Hermes corner which might be the brother of ours. Cingular calls ours the 8125 and the Hermes 8525. They have a new OFFICIAL AT&T Windows Mobile 6 Rom that has them all shook up. There have been 20 pages of posts in 2 days.

it's nothing special...basically what we already had, but with all the cingular add-on stuff... like Push to Talk and stuff... and it's bloated to death...lol..
What was the release date?
7/10/07 .. it wasnt officially released, it's a leak... but thats the ROM date .. came with a new RADIO too 1.48..
Sounds good, much newer than the one over here. Good luck with it.
The only thing that i like about it is the fact that i can now have wm6 with a working PTT

Does it expose any problems at all?
I guess you must have done a lot of registry fixes, right? I mean, Hermes uses different driver stacks (I assume) and most probably they require different settings, which are device specific..
I would really try this out (especially because it solves the BT re-pairing problem), but firstly I wanted to make sure it is of minor risk and to understand what might be the time investment to get it to work.
I ask because my Hermes currently has "no GSM" and is effectively a wifi PDA now (and even at that is a bit shaky). Now my Hermes was a referb and the issues started gradually, so it my have nothing to do with flashing, still once bitten twice shy!
Just would like some feed back before I go flashing my shiny new beloved Tilt.
Any feedback... comments welcomed.
Thanks....
installed spl on my tilt.
flashed probably 10 different roms so far.
had since release date.
installed a million different apps and configs.
no bricks here.
Good to hear thanks!
Looking at ROMs now... Probably sticking with an AT&T based ROM.
any preferences for AT&T users?

If you just looking for At&t based ROM's there are several to choose from. If you do decide to install one of these ROM's please do a HardSPL. Also if you will also need to upgrade your radio to 1.27.14.09
Depends what you are looking for. These are all At&t builds
Dutty's:Dutty's TouchFlo Rom Beta 2 TILT VERSION
Custel: CUSTEL Series v2.0
XDA:Tilt XDA-Live v 1.2
Here is a link to the radio.

Thanks... I will run HardSPL in just a minute.
I've just downloaded many of those ROMs and my give it a shot a bit later.
I have to say coming from a Hermes this Kaiser is a real sweet machine, even with the official AT&T ROM is runs great! It runs so much better than my Hermes.
Not sure what I think about the touch cube. Afraid it will slowing my Tilt down verses not having it. Maybe I'll try it then decide.
Hi at all .I'm a new user of this site ad of course i have a prophet G4 model with wm5 already installed ad all original roms.
As i'm reading many guides here i read al lot of person that has wm6, so i wanted to know if it was really usefull to uprgade my wm from 5 to 6, and what are the main differences between the two version ...
Thanks to everyone who answer me
I must admit I've tested some roms (about 10) of wm6.
The one I like most is prophet IX
but, after a while, I rolled back to WM5 (faster)
my 2 cents
ciao
wm6.1 seems to be fast. my rom history as in my sig. so far no problems. no real advantage really upgrading.
don't fix what's not broken, but if u are curious, just give it a try. that's how i started out & never looked back to wm5. obviously this was after my warranty period.
if i do get a kaiser/tytn II, will probably wait till finish warranty period & get flashing!
i must admit, flashing to new roms is exciting & u kinda feel that u have a new phone...
just my 3 cents....
p/s if u do flash, make sure u know what ur doing! READ THE WIKI & THE UPGRADE GUIDES BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!!!
how to downgrade?

Did you guys hear? HTC is releasing official WM6.1 updates to our beloved Kaisers!!!
Hear from where? You got a link for us?
Dave
It was just mentioned in the release from Microsoft about 6.1 yesterday (CNET, etc). However, that doesn't mean it is coming anytime soon.
oh. thanks for that.
link would still be nice

Actually, it's scheduled to be released VERY soon. The US touch dual will be shipping with WM6.1 supposedly within a month, so we might not even have to wait for a device specific rom, there will be 100 cooked ones available by the time that happens!
Is there any difference in the 6.1 we are already using in the cooked roms?

I think nobody knows that yet, I hope the final release have some REAL improvements in its interface because the standard version has real improvements compared to the Professional version.
Here's a video of the standard version

No, in researching MSFT's site (and hearing from someone who is at CTIA) it's exactly the same as the WWE stock and NoThrills roms we have now. The AT&T WM6.1 test rom (3.14) & VodaFone rom (3.07 i think) is mostly what we can expect from carrier specific roms as well.
I don't understand you guys we already have AT-T's WM6.1 rom and its nothing to really brag about. WM6.1 has been around for a very long time. we won't see anything good until WM7 hits the streets and trust me that's not that far off
