I am not a really experienced user in ROM upgrading, IPLs, SPLs, and the works. I have read a LOT about these subjects and i still don't understand a few things. Nevertheless i tried.
I own a G4 CID-Locked Prophet (QTEK S200) as described in the title and i tried upgrading to WM6 "just to see" what the hell would it do.
Before trying this WM6 upgrade i tried yet another thing which is kinda risky and actually turned this same S200 into a brick temporarily. I used the known shelltool_bugfixed application to upgrade to AKU 3.3.13 (extract OS from a complete ROM, then replace the OS file with the AKU 3.3.13 one) and it worked. I tried doing the same with clean1 V2 ROM and it bricked it.
I reflashed the Prophet with an original ROM using the novendor-id RUU, thinking it would never bring it to life, but it did. Also upgraded my SPL to 2.13.0001.
Then i tried upgading to clean1 V2 WM6 rom again (Jesus, stubborn guy) just by simply decompressing the files and running "UPGRADE_ROM.BAT". And it worked.
I was REALLY surprised because i read over and over again about this and i had the idea WM6 needed some special IPL and/or SPL and that my device had to be CID-Unlocked before the upgrade.
These are just a few events of yesterday and today with my Prophet which i wanted to share with you. I still find it unbelievable but here i am, running WM6 and happy as hell with it. WM6 really looks awesome and works a treat

If you dont write IPL/SPL without the right CID, you cant use all WM6 Firmwares ;-)
So you mean IPL and SPL are directly related to CID-Locks?
I wish i could understand that, it would help me figure out what i can use on my CID-Locked Prophet and what i can't... before i brick it for good
As i said above, when i "brought it back to life" with an original JamIN rom, it upgraded the SPL to 2.13.0001 (it was 2.10.0001 previously).

Don't know what your are talking about but all wm6 in this forum gave me no problems when i flashed them. Mine is CID locked G4 from ORANGE. So just try. There are lots of alternatives. All working more or less... Find the one better suits your prophet.
Read what i said in the first post. I know it's a bit confusing, but it says there i have successfully flashed my S200 with WM6 (smart1 V2 ROM).
I was just surprised because with all the spread information around WM6, i thought i needed to downgrade to some "special" IPL/SPL version or that i couldn't flash just because my G4 is CID-Locked.
After all, i can just flash about anything without bricking my S200. The only thing i think would brick it is if i downgraded (somehow) the IPL/SPL. Am i correct?

but you can upgrade and downgrade OS
what I really confused about it, what is the relation between IPL&SPL and OS
as I understand, some OS need newer IPL & SPL

as I noticed, there isn't any relation between IPL/SPL and OS
and upgrading SPL doesn't take any profits

Searching the forum for these words gives too many replies. So I would appreciate it if someone would explain what IPL and SPL exactly are. On my Prophet IPL = 2.10.001 and SPL = 2.15.001. Should they not be the same, and if yes, how can I upgrade IPL only (whatever it is).
Who will shed some light on this?

SPL = System Programming Language (I Think), Not sure exactly what this does. Its has something to do with the Chip, in the Prophets case.
G3 chip ends in .000 or G4 ends in .001.
I have IPL 1.0 but my SPL is 2.15.000 (i.e I have a G3 chip)
I also know higher SPL's are a pain to unlock, you have to try and downgrade

Guess, that SPL is something like hardware abstraction layer software, platform &chip dependent.

Austin, you are right, just one thing. The Chip G3 ends in 000 and the G4, ends in 001.
What's the risk of flashing a Prophet G4 with a G3 ROM, or a Prophet G3 with a G4 ROM?

Your service centre may be kind enough to repair the phone under warranty if you manage to do this mistake. The phone will not start again if you flash it with the wrong IPL/SPL and without specialised equipment a main board replacement is the only solution to this.
(I did this myself and it took the service centre three weeks to fix it. I guess they struggled with their JTAG cables and then gave up and just replaced the board instead.)
The most of service centers does nothing but changing boards, display and other parts, and do some software loads via USB. Most of the services has no even JTAG equipment nor documentation on how to load the flash via JTAG.
What could be the differences between IPL/SPL versions?
Like I have IPL ánd SPL: 2.10.0001
While most people here on the board seem to have 2.15.0001
Also saw some ROM upgrades (the pdamobiz one for instance) which says it's for 2.15.0001. Although on their english forum it says 2.xx.0001, but not in the file
And while I'm at it (another sneak question ), I guess the pdamobiz rom (aku 2.3) upgrades the device to os: 2.15.13.27 right?

IPL Trigger SPL and then SPL activate the OS

can someone help me to find IPL 2.15 for G3 prophet
I flashed my Dopod 818 Pro with lvsw's AKU2.3 & AKU2.3.1 and my SPL was changed to 2.20.0001 while IPL was kept 2.15.0001. I wanted to install the official Dopod AKU2.0 ROM back but it failed. I used ROMUpdateUtility.exe and it failed since initialization. If I used ROMUpdateUtility_No_VID.exe it failed at 95% which I believe the official .nbf file has some conflicts with SPL.
And I can't downgrade SPL back to 2.15.0001.
I saw some thread saying that there's no mean to downgrade G4 chip.
Does it mean I have to use AKU2.3 from now on?

No. Search this forum. There is a procedure for updating a G4 phone without touching the IPL/SPL areas. Be careful though! A mistake when attempting to upgrade your PDA may result in it being downgraded to a paper weight!
I have A Wing and I Dont see the IPL/SPL when I start it up, I downloaded the wizard service tool but It doesnt seem to work( "Warning!
A device was detected but one (or both) of RAPICommunications and Applications Policy isn'tenabled. Use first button for that purpose and try again") Ive Hard reseted it and enabled RAPI + unsigned APPS but it still wont work so Is there some other way to Get the IPL/SPL? Thanks.

I'm totally lost in this WM6 upgrade.
I've tried everything but i wont get my MDA Vario to flash with WM6.
My MDA Vario is unlocked (sim and CID) but i can't flash it because of my SPL 2.21????
This is what i have done:
installed button's 1.05 ROM
Download & installed lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b.
But stil my SPL is at 2.21.
Can someone please help me out here??

Both your IPL and your SPL must be 2.xx and higher. After you flashed to Buttons rom. did you reflash to a higher version after after you unlocked and cid unlocked your phone to make sure both IPL and SPL were 2.xx or higher?
I've followed the tutorial:
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
My IPL was 1.XX after the 1.05 downgrade, but my SPL was still 2.21 even after the rerun.
I have tried to instal T-Mobile 2.26 rom, but it gave an error.
check if you have G3 or G4 unit
I have a 3G device.

I think that you haven't unlocked the phone properly. Read Dr. P's tutorial about unlocking G3 phones.

if your ipl is 1.05 and your spl is still 2.21...then you need to reflash again so that both ipl and spl are 1.05 before you can proceed. ipl and spl should never be different.
WHen you downgrade to the Button rom, in most cases the IPL will change, but the SPL will not. You then have to downgrade again to get the SPL to get to 1.xx . There have been some cases reported where it takes reflahsing the button rom many times (like 8 times or somesuch) before the SPL will finally come down, but you have to complete this step or you will not be CID Unlocked.
Make sure you have your SD card out when you are flashing as this can cause problems.
Good luck, and sorry, but for those that have run into the stuck SPL there hasn't been a real solution other than keep flashing the button rom until it drops down to 1.xx. After that then the CID unlock will be complete and you can then flash the T-Mobile 2.26 rom (or whatever other 2.xx rom you want).

The Dr. P tutorial specifically says this (just not in those words). It tells you (after the last lokiwiz) to watch your screen and that you most likely will still have an SPL of 2.xx and will need to reflash (most people just don't read this and try to move on). The part of about having to reflash numerous times is new though. I've only heard of it a few times, but if you look at the posts from a month or so agao in the Dr P thread on unlocking you'll see where a few people ran into it and it took numerous flashes to finally get SPL to go to 1.xx.
before wm6 roms, every time there was a new rom for wm5 (molski or faria) you'd always get people in the thread mentioning that their ipl and spl are different. in those threads, the advice has always been to reflash a few extra times too. (I personally haven't had any problems with this...but i think i started my unlocking on a 1.8 us t-mobile rom with xelencin's rom...which had an unlocker built into the rom update package).
anyway, the phone's not bricked or anything, so you just have to keep flashing to get it working...

I've re-flashed 3 times but if i understand correct, than i have to retry flashing until SPL and IPL are the same?

yes. ipl and spl should both drop to 1.05. at that point you can go through the unlock and flash back up.

Well, my guess is that your phone is already unlocked if your SPL is 3.08.
Is is a G3 or G4 Wizard?

So just try to launch the setup for BD to know if it really isn't already unlocked (in case it is, the Rom will install, and if it isn't, then it just won't, so theres' no risk for your phone.

Just to forewarn you, do not install the downgrade ROM until you bring your IPL/SPL down from 3.08 to 2.xx. If you don't you may end up like a lot of other people on here where you can't upgrade the IPL after you get done unlocking your phone and go to install WM6. To get it down, just go to your service providers website and download their official version of their ROM and install it first and that should bring your IPL/SPL down to a 2.xx version, then flash the downgrade ROM.

I did find one workaround that appears to almost always work is to have a minisd with a dumped raw image of a previous rom with ipl/spl included (r2d all command)...this was able to downgrade a phone on 3.08 back to 2.24 even after having gone to wm6. (it downgraded it back to wm5 at the same time)...conventional flashes were failing due to the ipl/spl.

Yeah, downgrading your IPL/SPL is easy, it's when you go from a 3.xx IPL/SPL straight to a 1.xx IPL/SPL that can cause problems, like your IPL sticking at 1.01 afterwards and not wanting to upgrade back to a higher IPL.

In the future, don't send private messages to people who haven't contributed to this thread. If you can't figure out how to downgrade and/or unlock your phone after reading the many, many threads on how to do it, I suggest sticking with WM5.
Here, run this. It's an IPL/SPL version only. It won't affect anything you info or programs you have loaded on your phone right now, all it will do is lower you back down to an IPL/SPL of 2.26.

That's not normal, try running it again. I think I just put a file that will change it to 2.25 in another post that you started. If the 2.26 one doesn't work after running it again, try the 2.25 one and see if it works for you.
Just install a factory T-Mo or Cingular ROM
(Gotta locate 1 yourself)
You'll lose all your info but you wanted to flash another Rom anyway.
You gotta keep a factory Rom handy when things go wrong

Firstly, taht is IPL and SPL, don't get it wrong.
IPL and SPL is currently at 3.08, which should be best for WM6 and WM6.1 OS ROMs.
For Radio, just use the one that get best reception as soon as it is 2.xx.

i second that .. no ipl/spl for g4 device except for olip version from hard spl ..
the radio is a network dependent selection .. choose from the ones in the ftp
i used almost all of them and the only one that worked perfect for me was the 2.19 .. find it in my signature
also i advice to use tnt rom .. also found in my signature .. it's great !
finally .. please dont brick ur device with ipl/spl installation ... it will brick it!

why do you wanna downgrade?
I use 3.08.0001, too, but don' see any reason to change it.
If you still have to, you can try the Wizard Service Tool. It allows to flash almost everything, even an older IPL/SPL.
All you need is this tool and a ROM file with the IPL/SPL version you want to flash. Tryout the OEM Roms in the Wizard Wiki. At least one of them should have the right version.

I think I can not install WM 6.0 without CID remowing..and It is impossible to do with 3.08 SPL...Am I right?

I got an Wizard G4, too, with WM 6.1, IPL/SPL 3.08.001 and CID NOT unlocked.
As said, you can try the WST, worked very well for me. Maybe you have to flash an original WM5.0 ROM before trying to flash WM6, that's how it worked for me.
