WM6 on G4 CID-Locked Prophet

Hello,
I am not a really experienced user in ROM upgrading, IPLs, SPLs, and the works. I have read a LOT about these subjects and i still don't understand a few things. Nevertheless i tried.
I own a G4 CID-Locked Prophet (QTEK S200) as described in the title and i tried upgrading to WM6 "just to see" what the hell would it do.
Before trying this WM6 upgrade i tried yet another thing which is kinda risky and actually turned this same S200 into a brick temporarily. I used the known shelltool_bugfixed application to upgrade to AKU 3.3.13 (extract OS from a complete ROM, then replace the OS file with the AKU 3.3.13 one) and it worked. I tried doing the same with clean1 V2 ROM and it bricked it.
I reflashed the Prophet with an original ROM using the novendor-id RUU, thinking it would never bring it to life, but it did. Also upgraded my SPL to 2.13.0001.
Then i tried upgading to clean1 V2 WM6 rom again (Jesus, stubborn guy) just by simply decompressing the files and running "UPGRADE_ROM.BAT". And it worked.
I was REALLY surprised because i read over and over again about this and i had the idea WM6 needed some special IPL and/or SPL and that my device had to be CID-Unlocked before the upgrade.
These are just a few events of yesterday and today with my Prophet which i wanted to share with you. I still find it unbelievable but here i am, running WM6 and happy as hell with it. WM6 really looks awesome and works a treat

If you dont write IPL/SPL without the right CID, you cant use all WM6 Firmwares ;-)

So you mean IPL and SPL are directly related to CID-Locks?
I wish i could understand that, it would help me figure out what i can use on my CID-Locked Prophet and what i can't... before i brick it for good
As i said above, when i "brought it back to life" with an original JamIN rom, it upgraded the SPL to 2.13.0001 (it was 2.10.0001 previously).

Don't know what your are talking about but all wm6 in this forum gave me no problems when i flashed them. Mine is CID locked G4 from ORANGE. So just try. There are lots of alternatives. All working more or less... Find the one better suits your prophet.

Read what i said in the first post. I know it's a bit confusing, but it says there i have successfully flashed my S200 with WM6 (smart1 V2 ROM).
I was just surprised because with all the spread information around WM6, i thought i needed to downgrade to some "special" IPL/SPL version or that i couldn't flash just because my G4 is CID-Locked.
After all, i can just flash about anything without bricking my S200. The only thing i think would brick it is if i downgraded (somehow) the IPL/SPL. Am i correct?

you can only upgrade IPL & SPL
but you can upgrade and downgrade OS
what I really confused about it, what is the relation between IPL&SPL and OS
as I understand, some OS need newer IPL & SPL
can any one correct me

as I noticed, there isn't any relation between IPL/SPL and OS
and upgrading SPL doesn't take any profits

I have SPL 2.21 and can't flash to WM6

Hello everyone,
I'm totally lost in this WM6 upgrade.
I've tried everything but i wont get my MDA Vario to flash with WM6.
My MDA Vario is unlocked (sim and CID) but i can't flash it because of my SPL 2.21????
This is what i have done:
installed button's 1.05 ROM
Download & installed lokiwiz - HTC Wizard Unlocker UPDATE Version 0.2b.
But stil my SPL is at 2.21.
Can someone please help me out here??

Both your IPL and your SPL must be 2.xx and higher. After you flashed to Buttons rom. did you reflash to a higher version after after you unlocked and cid unlocked your phone to make sure both IPL and SPL were 2.xx or higher?

I've followed the tutorial:
16. Watch the rebooting of your PDA, if BOTH IPL and SPL are 1.xx then great. Quite probably your IPL will be 1.xx and your SPL will be 2.xx. Rerun the button 1.05 ROM downgrade a second time and it will become 1.x on both IPL and SPL. You don't need to redo the unlocking.
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
My IPL was 1.XX after the 1.05 downgrade, but my SPL was still 2.21 even after the rerun.
I have tried to instal T-Mobile 2.26 rom, but it gave an error.

check if you have G3 or G4 unit

I have a 3G device.

I think that you haven't unlocked the phone properly. Read Dr. P's tutorial about unlocking G3 phones.

if your ipl is 1.05 and your spl is still 2.21...then you need to reflash again so that both ipl and spl are 1.05 before you can proceed. ipl and spl should never be different.

WHen you downgrade to the Button rom, in most cases the IPL will change, but the SPL will not. You then have to downgrade again to get the SPL to get to 1.xx . There have been some cases reported where it takes reflahsing the button rom many times (like 8 times or somesuch) before the SPL will finally come down, but you have to complete this step or you will not be CID Unlocked.
Make sure you have your SD card out when you are flashing as this can cause problems.
Good luck, and sorry, but for those that have run into the stuck SPL there hasn't been a real solution other than keep flashing the button rom until it drops down to 1.xx. After that then the CID unlock will be complete and you can then flash the T-Mobile 2.26 rom (or whatever other 2.xx rom you want).

The Dr. P tutorial specifically says this (just not in those words). It tells you (after the last lokiwiz) to watch your screen and that you most likely will still have an SPL of 2.xx and will need to reflash (most people just don't read this and try to move on). The part of about having to reflash numerous times is new though. I've only heard of it a few times, but if you look at the posts from a month or so agao in the Dr P thread on unlocking you'll see where a few people ran into it and it took numerous flashes to finally get SPL to go to 1.xx.

before wm6 roms, every time there was a new rom for wm5 (molski or faria) you'd always get people in the thread mentioning that their ipl and spl are different. in those threads, the advice has always been to reflash a few extra times too. (I personally haven't had any problems with this...but i think i started my unlocking on a 1.8 us t-mobile rom with xelencin's rom...which had an unlocker built into the rom update package).
anyway, the phone's not bricked or anything, so you just have to keep flashing to get it working...

I've re-flashed 3 times but if i understand correct, than i have to retry flashing until SPL and IPL are the same?

yes. ipl and spl should both drop to 1.05. at that point you can go through the unlock and flash back up.

spl lowering

does any one now how to lower the spl . when u start the ppc mine is 3.08 and i need it lower so i can unlock my phone

Well, my guess is that your phone is already unlocked if your SPL is 3.08.
Is is a G3 or G4 Wizard?

So just try to launch the setup for BD to know if it really isn't already unlocked (in case it is, the Rom will install, and if it isn't, then it just won't, so theres' no risk for your phone.

Just to forewarn you, do not install the downgrade ROM until you bring your IPL/SPL down from 3.08 to 2.xx. If you don't you may end up like a lot of other people on here where you can't upgrade the IPL after you get done unlocking your phone and go to install WM6. To get it down, just go to your service providers website and download their official version of their ROM and install it first and that should bring your IPL/SPL down to a 2.xx version, then flash the downgrade ROM.

I did find one workaround that appears to almost always work is to have a minisd with a dumped raw image of a previous rom with ipl/spl included (r2d all command)...this was able to downgrade a phone on 3.08 back to 2.24 even after having gone to wm6. (it downgraded it back to wm5 at the same time)...conventional flashes were failing due to the ipl/spl.

Yeah, downgrading your IPL/SPL is easy, it's when you go from a 3.xx IPL/SPL straight to a 1.xx IPL/SPL that can cause problems, like your IPL sticking at 1.01 afterwards and not wanting to upgrade back to a higher IPL.

In the future, don't send private messages to people who haven't contributed to this thread. If you can't figure out how to downgrade and/or unlock your phone after reading the many, many threads on how to do it, I suggest sticking with WM5.

Here, run this. It's an IPL/SPL version only. It won't affect anything you info or programs you have loaded on your phone right now, all it will do is lower you back down to an IPL/SPL of 2.26.

That's not normal, try running it again. I think I just put a file that will change it to 2.25 in another post that you started. If the 2.26 one doesn't work after running it again, try the 2.25 one and see if it works for you.

Just install a factory T-Mo or Cingular ROM
(Gotta locate 1 yourself)
You'll lose all your info but you wanted to flash another Rom anyway.
You gotta keep a factory Rom handy when things go wrong

cujo did you just buy an 8125 because you think it looks cool or do you actually understand the phone? It seems to me like you should be using a razr or something less complex than that...

problem upgrading kjam to wm6

i have a g3 kjam after flowing the 3 steps
1.installing the rom that downgrade the ipl to 1.00
2.cid unlock
3.installing the rom that changes ipl/spl tp 3.08
any rom that i try to install finshes 100% succsesful
but still boot a wm5 rom with a new icon when starts
any help will be great

Personally, I went from button 1.05 rom to TMobile 2.26 rom to new WM6 rom.
I flashed 3.08 later - as is does not change the O/S - only IPL/SPL. Did not find any benefit to it, so went back down to 2.26
Please note that there are freezing issues if you flash down from 3.08 to 1.05. Apparently the spl can freeze if you do this - and that is a problem. So, to play it safe - do not do that - thanks.
It is always recommended that you flash a solid 2.xx rom such as the TMobile one when going between the different WM6 roms available here - you may want to try that - go down to 2.xx, then upgrade to WM6

I've attached a link to another thread about the freezing issue. Unfortunately, it does not give the answer as to how to fix it. But - should no one else answer on this - I would recommend that you send a private message to senior user "mestrini", and hopefully he can walk you through it.

Well,after downgrading to 1.xx and CID unlocking,its essential to upgrade to ipl/spl 2.xx for upgrade to wm6,its highly recommended to upgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile 2.26 for a solid base,but,however, you can still even upgrade to wm6 with ipl/spl 3.08.Wm6 works on 2.xx and 3.xx.

I believe your phone is still CID locked,you didn't do the CID unlock method correctly,but you upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08,now you can only CID unlock your phone by downgrading to 1.xx. Yes! SPL freezes if you downgrade to 1.xx from 3.08.So always first downgrade to 2.xx and then to 1.xx.Now I'll advise you to upgrade to IPL/SPL 3.08 again and then try to downgrade to 2.xx by flashing the T-mobile or Wizard_love Rom or official stock Rom of your carrier if other then T-mobile.If succeed to downgrade to 2.xx,only then flash Button's Rom 1.05 to get to 1.xx and apply the lokiwiz02b to CID unlock the phone.After that upgrade to 2.xx by flashing T-mobile 2.26 and upgrade to any wm6 Rom.

thanks for tring but device doesn't let me downgrade to 2.26 or any other 2.xx ipl/spl only stright down to 1.xx and like you said spl freeze on 3.08
when i tried wizard love it did the rom flash but still ipl/spl 3.08

I would upgrade SPL and IPL on my Wizard G4 from version 2.17.0001 to 3.08. Its possible? I would launch Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM.

The things you are intending to do will definitely KILL your G4. You need to read a little more in this forum, otherwise your phone will become a BRICK.
I recommend you to use soft_SPL and find a CLEAN OS ROM, without radio, IPL/SPL

I use ShellTool which flash only OS (without radio etc.)
@radichev: You have G3 or G4? I see in your signature that you have WM 6.5

G4, I use Soft_SPL, I use G4 safe roms without IPL/SPL
mine is 2.25.0001 and 2.25.11

I already have soft-SPL, but I can find a safe ROM for G4

pls reply it would be of very helpfull

Some people report quicker boot time as a factor. I am not sure I really have any improvement, It is one of those things that has been done so long ago, I would have to change back to see what happens.

i picked this piece of information up from the very first link that u gave
BUT: If you want to update IPL/SPL for G4 after hard SPL, do as following:
-disassemble ROM with IPL/SPL of your liking
Usage: typho5.exe -x nk.nbf
-reassemble the ROM or IPL/SPL with NKnbftool.
Make shure you only use G4 IPL/SPL for your G4, those are the IPL_2 and SPL_2 files created by typho5.exe.
-copy the nk.nbf you just created to SOFT SPL Folder
-start Soft SPL and flash the IPL/SPL.
You will lose the hardSPL though!
Typho5.exe and nknbftool are available in most kitchens.
The new WST also has some nice features to strip a ROM.
