Hi
We got a MDA Compact II for testing at work. Worked fine, but now the device is dead slow and needs ages to start. Soft reset didnt help and the main problem is we cant get the hard reset to work. From the manual it should be the Stand By Button + Reset Button pressed. But only thing that happens is that the screen goes black, nothing else. tried to hold it for longer time but no luck. It wont hard reset. We installed Mcaffee antivirus on it, it said it was the WM5 version but the uninstaller uses unload.exe which is not WM5 conform. Cant it lock the Hard Reset??
Anybody has a clue??
Thanks
Sascha

Hard reset on the MDA Compact II / HTC Charmer:
Press and hold both buttons on the left hand side (camera and record).
Use stylus to depress reset button.
Release reset button - keep holding the two side buttons for a count of 4 or 5.
Press the green phone button (Send) to format the phone.
Thanks. So the manual of t-mobile is wrong

Yep - they give the instructions for hard resetting the old MDA Compact.
ok..recently aquired this phone...
I've discovered that there is no sound from the speaker at all, no mp3 alarm ringtones .... I've used the slider on the side with no luck, and also tried changing the profile, volume control ect...no luck
Does anybody fancy talking me through any possible fixes for this...
Somebody suggested a hard reset?.... Any suggestions on doing this?...
Is this likely to be a software / registry change to fix this, or is it likely to be a case of sending it back for repair?... I'm sure its under warranty... but if its not, any suggestions on where I could take / send for repair?.... I'm in the Beckenham, bromley, south London region....
I have a basic understanding of pc's, but am not confident of doing registry changes without step - by - step instructions....
Anybody fancy a challenge?.... Thanx in advance...
PS.. just curious...any reason why this forum site is very simular layout to AV Forum site?....
Bump......
Try a Hard Reset first :

To perform a hard reset :
Press and hold the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.
Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
"Release the buttons, and then press SEND on your device to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset."
To see bootloader page :
Hold power button + Camera button and push reset button with stylus wait 3 seconds and then release the reset button but keep pressing the power button + camera button u will be then in bootloader page

...did you go to Start Menu->Settings->Personal Tab->Sounds & Notifications to make sure that you've Enabled Sounds for Programs? a Hard-Reset certainly seems to be the option of choice here if nothing else is working. you can perform the Hard-Reset by selecting Start Menu->Settings->System Tab->Clear Storage and then follow the prompts to complete the process.
Nope...hard reset didnt work...just to say... I can hear through the earpeice when speaking in a phone conversation...just no other sound at all... even tried the option for beeps or clicks when using the keypad and still no sound... Also...that bootloader option...It just takes me to a screen with 4 different coloured stripes and some writing..I'll try it again and post what it says, but basicly it just freezes, then I have to do a soft reset to get the phone back on....
Bumpity bump....

Please remember that the Orbit II does NOT have these buttons!
Update...
I've done another hard reset using this method....
1) Get your stylus and place it in the hole next to the USB port, BUT DONT PUSH! Just get it ready but dont actually push the button inside the hole.
2)Place your fingers on the Windows and OK buttons
3)Press and hold the buttons, dont let go.
4)Stright away push the stylus into the hole and press the button inside. You can let go of the stylus once the button inside has been pushed
5)Keep holding onto the Windows and OK buttons
6)After 5 seconds let go of the Windows and OK buttons
7)If asked to press SEND, just press the green pickup call button.
....
And still no sound!....
Any ideas?
Yes that's the correct procedure, strange about that sound though.
What ROMs it running?
Any clue about what it might be?....
hang on I'll find out........
ROM Version. 1.25.206.3 WWE
Is that the latest Rom..Would it be worth updating if there is a newer version?....
Is that an official ROM or cooked?
I think its official...
you could have a hardware problem...i would have sent it back for a replacement 3-4 days ago!
I cant, bought it second hand. Will take it back for refund if I cant get it fixed...just thought it might be a common problem with a easy fix!...
i believe you've tried most options without any success. the only other options are to open it up and see if maybe the speaker has been dislodged. not sure how easy that would be. good luck!
OK.... thanx anyway!... Damned tiny little screws inside...cant get to the speaker... Ok...off to the shop it goes!
No sound
I had this problem on another HTC device 'the Kaiser' and was informed some specific Roms are not compatible with the radio on the device ( does your device have the original Rom? ) Flashing a new may have caused this problem.
im wondering how to do a hard reset on the cruise? can anyone help with this. having some dramas with new rom and not sure how to do a hard reset, after rom installed,as suggested in thread.
Push and hold GPS button and Internet button, push reset button with stylus shortly, release GPS and Internet button only when you see the white screen showing up.
Hi all,
I'm in desperate need of help. I put some Htc Home 2.1 software on my o2 Xda orbit 2 by mistake thinking it was some other piece of software.
Now my phone just locks up and hangs at the Windows mobile 6.1 green booting screen.
The htc software was just some theme type software for the home page, and i have not made any firmware changes since upgrading to 6.1 ages ago.
I've tried holding in the power button whilst pressing the soft reset button, but it doesn't seem to help.
Has anyone got any idea's as i'm desperate.
Rich.
if you cant get it to work then you may need to hard reset it...
To do this hold down the ok and windows button and reset the device at the bottom of it. All the time holding down the buttons then it will ask you i think press the power button to hard reset
NOTE: This will delete everything off your device and remove the sd card before just in case.
This is the craziest issue.. My slide to unlock is no longer working so therefore I can hardly use the phone except that I can take inbound calls. I have tried to factory reset using down volume, circle, reset. Please please please any other ideas are greatly appreciated! I am totally stuck with a useless phone and am having to use a BJ II for now! Uggh!
How come the hard reset didn't work? You need to hold down vol down and the dpad button until the tri-color screen appears.
The easiest thing would be to connect to your pc, then access the registry with ceregeditor. Switch HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Lockscreen\enabled:1 to 0 and soft reset. Then just unlock off the old screen.
Beats the heck out of me.. I hold the volume button down, and hold down the dpad and nothing. I have done it on reboot, I have done it from the lock screen and nothing. As for your registry idea I like it, its just too bad I cannot get the phone to connect to windows. I have tried it on 2 Windows 7computers now. Anymore ideas?
You need to figure out how to hard reset-you're clearly doing it wrong. Hold down vol-down and the d-pad button simultaneously. Keep holding them down. Then just soft reset. Don't hold down the soft reset-just tap it with the stylus. Wait until the hard reset screen appears, then let go of the other two buttons. There is really no way that it won't work, it's a bootloader operation and it doesn't matter what crap you have on your main memory.
I'm having the same issue. Just flashed the Energy Rom and now I can't unlock my phone. I'll try some of the suggested tips and let you know which worked.

I edited the registry with the above value and it solved my problem - Phone is no longer locked on bootup. Now my issue is that somehow my touchscreen is unresponsive (probably why I couldn't unlock my phone). I believe it's a hardware issue not a software one because it looks like liquid got under the screen somehow. Lame. Now I need to flash back to stock ROM and lock it so I can send it in under insurance.
