WM6 and VGA - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

I've been using Jwright's WM6 ROMs and they're terrific. I'd become accustomed to using true VGA in WM5, and while IE offers VGA, it's nothing compared to having the entire system run in 640x480 (96dpi) everywhere.
Has anyone enabled this? I did the registry change, but I don't have WM6 dll's put in for the 96 dpi (using the WM5 dlls would defeat the purpose of using WM6, right?).
If anyone is doing this, lets get some information going on it. If nobody is doing VGA, when do we think we can do this? Or how might I go about helping to make it a reality?

I used ozVGA with WM5 dlls, works fine.
The only purpose of 69-dpi dlls is icons, i suppose...

Is that a possibility? Can the WM5 dlls really be used as replacements here? Or is that like upgrading and then removing 1/2 of the new features?
Are there functional bits in these replaced dlls? Or are they truly icons only?

there is a package i made on the ftp that is allmost complete vga for wm6, it uses wm6 versions from qvga devices

Outstanding! Got a link or filename/path?

Here
Hope it works for you

Would be nice to skip the ozVGA necessity - I like to just have the dlls and set the registry myself... But at least now I've got it. Life is good.

Sweet
I tried these files and they are sweet, thanks

i just used d WM5 dll's & ozVGA. true VGA works as good as when i was on WM5.
nevertheless, i still downloaded Midget's cab file.
hi Midget. tnx 4 that. no need anymore 4 ozVGA w/ that cab file?

Nervous n00b Help?

My mobile T-mobile AMEO 5 inch screen is wasted without VGA which I had on my Dell Axim x51v. I had previously used www.nyditot.comvirtual Virtual Display with great success in Windows mobile 5 but they are not returning my e-mail about Windows mobile 6 support hence the reason of this question.
What are the benefits of using your cab is there a lower overhead etc than the full blown softwares like MvRTrueVGA or Virtual Display? Is there any risks running VGA apps on PDA’s OS’s?
Any thoughts appreciated

Real VGA by Tobias is better. You should try it. It comes with 96dpi and 128 dpi.

as far is i know universal only supports vga, which is 640x480.
you need svga support.

EDIT:Never mind found the post:

:EDIT
For PPC2003 there was NyDitot Virtual Display where you could set arbitrary resolutions which were downsized to the 240x320 display. I often used 360x480 (240x320 * 1,5) with my iPAQ H3660. Their homepage says the 5.02 should work with WM5. Maybe it works with WM6, too.
On the Universal you should be able to use 960x720 (640x480 * 1,5) ... which might look a bit blurry, but should still be usable.

wm6 standard questions

hey guys (and girls where aplicable),
i got a question (a sorta dumb one). If a smartphone lik the iPAQ 514 Voice Messenger or the HTC Vox have windows mobile 6 standard does that mean they run regular windows mobile programs or smartphone versions? See the Cheeta/treo 750 has windows mobile standard ed. and is called a smartphone but it uses regular PPC programs, the other two mentioned before have the same wm6 but no touch screen. so i was wondering if that made a diference in the phones capabilities to use PPC Progs? I appreciate any answers as i am greatly puzzled and intregued buy this.
With WM6 they dispensed with the term "smartphone" in favour of WM 6 Standard. Too many non Windows Mobile phones were being called "smart phones" as well as PPC phones.
WM Standard has no support for touch screens and many PPC apps will not run on it.
WM Pro has touchscreens.
understanding versions...
so lemmie go over this... a ppc with a touch screen is said to run WM6 pro, a ppc without a touch screen is said to run wm6 standard the "smartphone" version. so what of the vox? it has all the capabilities of a full sized PPC without the touch screen so where would it and the ipaq 514 fit in? Because correct me if i'm wrong but dont they offer features like MS Office editing and production verus the others whose ability is limited to viewing or is it the WM6 platform that actually enables this?
You're right, its just a functionality of WM6. Any smartphone (i.e. non-Touch screen device) running WM6 has those same office capabilities and will be running WM6 Standard, not Professional.
As far as I know the two WM6 are one same core of the same OS but..
In the PPC version there is more advanced setup in the menus wich setup is locked in the Srtandard by default.
For example in the Standard there is no way to change the IP of the wi-fi manually.
And in the pocket pc there is some dll's, responsible for touchscreen operation .
yes but....
i do believe you might be correct on everything but the I.P setup for standard. i have an sda running wm6 and i can manually setup my wifi and change certain settings in the network config. Also the HP ipaq 514 that i've been researching also has the same features. see my big thing is i love he compact size of the smart phone but need the capabilities of the PPC. It wold be great if i could get the best of both. i know the O2 XDA stealth has that exact combo but they are hard to find and kinda pricey for thier age.
There are separate SDKs for Standard and Pro, so I think the differences run a little deeper.
well what to do?
well i guess my final questions then wuld be what kind of phone are:-
1/ O2's xda stealth
2/ HP's Ipaq 514

Wheres the diamond interface to our unis? both are VGA

hi friends, is it possible? diamond and uni are vga devices, so why arent chefs giving us roms with diamond interface?
thx
sorry for my english
Diamond has 3d drivers (Accelerators), Universal I believe does not...theres tons of changes in both Diamond and Universal. VGA screen itself cant solve everything...tons of changes internally as well .
Lets see what is possible...
We're very unlikely to see a 'full' Diamond implementation for a number of reasons:
1) As rdosti stated, the Diamond has 3D acceleration - this may just be software drivers, or there may be some hardware involved. Even if it's just a good software driver, unless the Uni has the same underlying hardware, we're unlikely to see a port of the drivers. So - manilla (TouchFlo 3D) is very unlikely.
2) The Diamond is an altogether *bigger* machine than the Uni. The specs are just so much higher:
ROM - 256MB vs 128MB
RAM - 192MB vs 64MB
Storage - 4GB vs leftover ROM.
So - there's very little chance we could even see all the Diamond *apps* in a Uni ROM - they won't fit!
That said, if you look in the 'Development and Hacking' forum, the thread shown below is devoted to porting Diamond Apps, and while most work seems to be on converting VGA to QVGA, there's a full OEM and SYS dump in there. It's probably from a BETA release of the ROM, though, since I don't think the Diamond has been on sale (much) yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395400
So - what could we realistically see on the Uni?
The Diamond version of Adobe PDF (already available as OEM package/CAB)
The Diamond YouTube player (maybe - haven't seen much on this).
The Diamond extensions to Outlook (maybe).
HTC Album VGA (Already available as OEM/CAB).
HTC Audio Manager VGA (maybe).
The Diamond Dialler (maybe).
The latest ArcSoft MMS (probably).
Opera 9.5 (Build 1126 is already out there as a CAB for VGA).
Most of the ROM cookers here seem to concentrate on light/fast ROMs, and don't particularly seem to like the HTC applications, so whether or not any of this sees the light of day in a Uni ROM is open to question.
If someone manages to port the underlying drivers and gets TouchFlo 3D working at a decent pace, that would be wonderful, but I for one won't be holding my breath!

you need this trash ?
1. this interface slow like hell
2. with crappy functionality
3. with giant memory consuption
maybe we can use the diamond videocall app for wm6.1?

The Uni and Diamond have different CPUs and Different GPU.
Diamond uses Qualcomm we use XScale.
Not much chance of porting anything without a great deal of pain.
Uni uses also Qualcomm chipset (MSM6250) for 3G video calling, yeah I know that is hard work to be ported, but only told's what Tomal is working on

yes, that's the main point.
dialer is working great on uni and functions for video call is visible (at least). but need to be tested under 3g network.
Ok friends! we all know the differences btw uni and diamond, but what I was thinking is get the diamond build OS, some apps compatible, htc home vga, and not diamond drivers... I understood u.. and I think the chefs will give us great roms based on diamonds... without the trash that can make our unis slower and with less free ram...!
thanks bros!

touchflo 3d/manila

has this been ported to the qvga kaiser?
precisely. Will TouchFlo 3d to Kaiser?
No, it doesnt work (yet) even with the new beta direct 3d drivers. I have tried it. There is a qvga version floating around. I tried it with my Tilt with l26 diamond rom and I still only had 3fps.
this should be possible without the drivers since i've seen a plugin called animatedtoday have some nice speeds without a single driver and even when changing tabs on htc home seems pretty quick.this should only be a matter of converting a vga plugin into qvga which can be done since there's software we all use that comes in both resolutions
but I walk about whether it will touchflo 3d Kaiser to be done if the drivers
I do not want plugin, I'd prefer touchflo 3d probably like all
anyone have the manila cab and all the files consisted in it? I'm going to see if i can continue on with getting this interface to be converted to qvga with proper rapid movement. Any advice on where to start and what to use is greatly appreciated and I'll post if I got it to be a bit faster or significantly faster.

TG01 powerhouse needs saving from winmo 6.1

Hay all, first time so... be gentle.
So I've just got my grubby mits on the huge and amazing Toshiba TG01, this is the 4.1 inch, snapdragon running competitor to the iphone... I've got it on Orange in the UK (so it's all UK GSM, 3G and HSDPA radios here if it matters for support reasons)
Now the TG01's "stripe" interface looks... well fugly, no two ways about it.
Orange provide their own UI which is inspired by the PS3's I suspect, and it's usable, but does nothing once your deep in winmo 6.1 territory (contact lists etc)
I've tried to get TouchFlo 3D and 2D running on the device (including via throttle launcher) but to no joy....
Does anyone know how This Bugger managed it?
Have any of the truly genius coders here managed it on devices more powerful than HTC's (touchflo2D seem to be other way round) - or can anyone suggest alternative UI's till the winmo 6.5 upgrade roles round?
Cheers!

SPB Mobile Shell
Hey mate,
I have a TG01 and I am using SPB Mobile shell, its a shell on top on top of the OS, its about $30 but its head a shoulders above the crappy GUI's that come installed.

"That Bugger" used itje's Blackstone cab to get it on the phone. It says so in the video's comments.

The TG01 will get an official WM6.5 upgrade.
I think the WM6.5 interface is pretty good, even without TouchFlo. So my advice is to just wait for the official WM6.5 upgrade, disable all of Toshiba's interface extensions and enable WM6.5 default home plugin (Titanium).
You can also try alternative interfaces like SPB Mobile Shell, Throttle Launcher, PoinUI etc. and alternative programs like Kinoma Play, Resco Photo Viewer etc.
Hi all, thanks for the advice, in the end I found PointUI and in turn PointSense which near perfectly reproduces the touchflo interface.
but I agree the winmo6.5 will really improve the phone, I belive toshiba planned to release it with 6.5 but MS's stalling meant that didn't happen.
Cheers again.
