question -- how to do "Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V," etc. in Block Recognizer? - General Questions and Answers

thanks to asukal, i was finally able to get Block Recognizer into my JapaneseOS-based X01HT/HTC Hermes (i was formerly a Palm user, and have really gotten used to using Graffiti).
one question, however, is how do i perform "control actions" in Block Recognizer? how i do it in the Palm doesnt seem to work, and since there was no help file i couldnt figure it out...
thanks in advanced...!!!

i guess not much people use Block Recognizer, then...

Why not just highlight the text you want to copy, then hold the stylus down, choose copy, and then go to where you want to paste it and hold the stylus down and choose paste?

because for some reason, the application actually doesnt allow it... when i hold the stylus down, the entire text gets unselected...
also, having a "short cut" key is much faster/efficient than holding the stylus down and having to select from a menu... dont you think so?

Highlighting text using keyboard

I do a bit of text editing on my Palm and don't like having to take the stylus out of its silo when I'm using the keyboard, just to move text.
So how do I select text using the keyboard?
The Treo manual says:
Highlighting text
You can use the 5-way or the stylus to
highlight text on the screen:
• 5-way: Press and hold Shift ( or
) while pressing Right , Left ,
Up , or Down to extend the
highlight in that direction.
Click to collapse
I must be doing something wrong, but I can't get that to work.
Hi,
The 5 way button moves you round a text (email, SMS etc) the same way your cursor keys do on your pc.
If you hold the shift key on your treo the 5 way button will highlight: > next character, < preceding character, v line below, ^ line above.
Multiple presses while still holding shift allow you to select large blocks of text easily.
Cheers
Angus

Yes, that's what the manual says. My point is that it doesn't work. Not for me. Not on my device.
The Shift key works. Pressing it (either the left or right one) displays the "up arrow" icon. The 5-way button works - I can move the cursor. Pressing and holding the shift while using the 5-way button doesn't do anything (i.e. I just move the cursor around the text without selecting anything).
Just goes to prove - should have checked it, it doesn't do what the manual says at all - although it does work on my old treo 600. What a pain!
yes, i have been email to palm, and also call up to palm. they say it is a mistake from palm company, and will update the rom soon!! OMG!!! That`s Suck!!!

Help me to configure Long_AP2

Ok, so I just realized that it's very troublesome to compose a new SMS, have to go to the inbox, press right soft key, press left joystick, press down joystick to select SMS and then start composing
So I got an idea to configure the Messaging button on Tornado Noble to point to the compose SMS straight away. I did some google, and found the attribute to the tmail.exe application.
So I tried to create a shortcut named Long_AP2.lnk, in it contain this line
19#"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to "" -body ""
I saved it and transferred it to my phone, but it don't seem to work, feeling that my attribute might be wrong, I saved it as Short_AP2 and put into my phone, it works and by pressing the SMS button, it opens SMS composer straight away.
So the question is, why can't I get it to work on Long_AP2? Or the file name is supposed to be something else?
I also want to ask, what i that number 19 at the beginning of the line, hardware keys?
I think that the LONG_AP1.lnk activates when you hold the button for a few seconds.
Lol, I know that for sure,
I want to make long hold to activate compose sms, but short press to inbox
Anyone can help me? This is for our own good
keybddr.dll didn't support Long_AP2.
These aren't attributes. Attributes are what tell us whether or not file is hidden, read only etc...
These are parameters or switches.
I don't understand why you need to use a parameter to make tmail.exe open with a blank text message. Unless mine is broken, that's what it does by default. (In fact, I think mine is screwed up... wtf?)
Have you considered using mortscript?
andot:
If keybddr.dll doesn't support long_ap how is the media player supposed to use this for FFW in music/video?
I think it's supposed to support it.
I mixed up, it should be arguments
At default, it opens the inbox, not the blank text message
Long_AP2
With "AE Button Plus" you can map simple, double, triple and long click to one key.
This is a very usefull utility !
you need to modify the registry keys to use AEB Plus with the multimedia keys.

Hmm, I don't like to install additional cab to do simple stuff, perhaps find out what registry changes it does, and incorporate into a cab which installs the button, ill chk it out later

I fixed it. Don't know how it broke, but it works as you describe.
Is there no way to make a text version of a mailto: shortcut?
Good that you fixed it, but hope we can have 2 purpose with a button
short hold for inbox, long hold for sms
as you know, with Wm6, composing sms is even more troublesome compared to wm5

PTT remap/fix

Good Evening
I downloaded a PTT fix from http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/1054343-1.html & installed the .cab file. It created a button 5 option in my settings/buttons menu. However, when I set that option for camera instead of PTT...it still initializes the PTT vs the camera. I'm going to assume that the PTT is not button 5 on the fuze, hence why it won't work. Does anyone know which button that it might be, and how i could edit that file? or make my own work around?
Thanks
The PTT might be hard wired to the PTT hardware needed for ATT's push to talk, kinda silly really I don't see why they still push this I've yet to meet anyone on ATT who uses this feature, maybe one day ill run into a cunstruction worker who knows.

I'd love to see a solution to this too. I tried the Tilt registry hacks that let you re-map the PTT button but all that did was disable the button completely. (Which is still an improvement because at least now I don't have the PTT message come up every time I accidentally hit that button...)

CONFIRMED, this is how to keep that annoying PTT message from coming up on American Touch Pro's (Fuze maybe? whatever).
Keep in mind, you can't individually map this button with this method, that may come later.
Step 1: Registry editor, remove HKLM/Services/PTT
Step 2: Create a key in HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Keys called "40C2"
Step 3: Create a string within that key, titled Name with the value being "Button 6" or whatever
Step 4: Soft reset.
From this point on you can remove 40C2, but your PTT button will simply perform with a press what your send button performs with a hold (which can be remapped easily... Settings/Buttons/Button1(Hold)).

I were to remove that string after i install the .cab, would that disable PTT,and the settings menu take over?
I realize I can do a registry hack, but I was looking for something that A) would be easy to install/uninstall B) would add an easily accessible option to the settings on the phone.

Um that is the easiest way right now.
And it does as B). Just change what Button 1 (Hold) to whatever you want and that's what your PTT button will act as.
Alright, its Button 1...awesome. Now lets see if I can find that setting ;-)
In settings/personal/buttons
...there is only an option for button 5, and button 5(hold). 1-4 do not show up there. How would I go about editing button 1's action?
Thanks alot
I found a program called AE BUTTON PLUS, it allows you to map any hardware button on the device. The PTT button is not listed by default so you need to "add button" it will then ask you to press the hardware button you would like to map, after that it shows up on the list and you can map it... I have found that adjusting long press setting causes issues, but tap and double tap work fine. I have tap disabled since I always hit the key by accident, double tap is Torch. Working fine so far. I believe you can even map individual keys on the keyboard in the same way.
I tried to use AE Button Plus(registered it), and had no luck creating an action for the PTT button. So I followed the registry ediit intructions, again..with no avail.
My PTT is disabled, which as previously stated, is better than nothing.
I would like to clarify two things. Does 40C6, and 40C7 relate to PTT on all devices, or is this a phone by phone basis? 40C6 could be PTT on a tilt, but the touch may be 33D4. Noobish question, but I'm not sure how this stuff works.
Also you said its "Button 1". Again, does this refer to hardware button # 1. Or is this just a random name we give it so we know which one to edit in the buttons menu?
So if I use 40c6, and 40c7 for "Button 1", and "Button 1(hold)"...it should work?
...I also used Button 6 & Button 6 hold as in the Tilt instructions. Same function.
I appreciate the assistance gang!
any1 have any luck?
If you want to remap the PTT button using a cab file (instead of manually doing reg tweaks) just look here: http://www.fuzemobility.com/ptt-remapping-revisited-application/
pretty simple but read the 'update' at the end

Touch-Screen Controls? Single Tap? Double Tap?

Like right now if I tap anything, it opens it. For example file explorer. This makes selecting things IMPOSSIBLE. Any way to make it work so a single tap selects and a double tap executes?
Well, it works fine for me, what I do is: if I want to select 1 item, I hold the finger so it gets to the popup menu; if I want to select multiple items, I just select them by holding the finger.
You could try Total Commander, it behaves like desktop Windows, 1 click select, 2 clicks execute.
I don't know if you can configure File Explorer to do that though. If I'm not mistaken I have seen some option like that somewhere... not that it helps lol.
And I just told my phone not to capatilize every letter and it does. Nice.

Yep, that's definitely the most annoying "feature" on the phone, I mean, why the hell have a physical keyboard with shift keys if the phone doesn't respect it?

Any way to make this feature stay unchecked? I mean I unchecked it I thought that was enough. I'll try a soft reset but I'm guessing I'll have to use the registry.
OH YEAH!! The main reason why it is annoying about File Explorer is because I have to use that to open Youtube everytime. Any shortcuts right TO Youtube? Like every other Program?
The Youtube app? It's on the browser tab in TF3D, with Opera.
or you can add it to your program list
What about others application except file explorer
Hi guys,
Do you have a solution to this because, i just saw a way to avoid it. But what about phone app ( where you see recent calls, by default last call is selected but we cannot select other or you cannot change if to call mobile or other number from that contact) or notes app (clicking on a note is just open it)

Text Message Shortcut

So something got under my TP screen and its basically useless. Still viewable but contact doesnt work anymore. That being said, the only way i know to send a text message is to touch the screen and press send. does anyone know another way, or a way to bind to send?
i have the att fuze btw.

2 options, use the directional buttons around the enter key, or install virtual mouse.
The directional buttons don't allow you to navigate to the 'Send' button unfortunately. At least, not that I have been able to do. I can navigate most other places with them though.
I will look into using virutal mouse tonight. Thanks.
I have the UK version - so i may be wrong here. Isnt there a txt key on the slide out keyboard?
Failing that, bind a key using something like AEB (remap button pushes) or gscroll (use the capacative touch on the buttons) - you can google them both!
And if you have trouble mapping to "create new txt" send me a pm and i'll walk you through it!
