Anyone else got their GPRS to be dead when upgrading to Faria's ROM? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

No GPRS for me Even upgraded Radio ROM and still no dice.... is there a fix for this or am I doomed?

Actually - i can send texts so seems like this is some sort of a WM6 bug... anyone?

Mine works. Where are you? Which provider? Which phone? etc etc.
--M

GPRS worked straight away for me after installing this ROM. Did you select the right provider when you setup your phone? You can rerun that (to verify) by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Operator cfg (The phone will have to do a soft reset after this runs).

if u use T-Mobile change to wap.voicestream.com

My GPRS died as well. I had to flash the rom and the radio multiple times. I am using T-Mobile US. Radio 2.19.

I have Cingular with an MDA (unlocked); I selected the right provider, checked all my settings... the "G" or "E" icons do not even appear; i just have two arrows and an "x"

Check your settings here for GPRS:

Check here for MMS:

T-Mobile US
Radio: 2.25.11
No problems with GPRS here.

The two arrows and the "X" means your Wi-fi is on, but cant find any wifi or hotspot connection. Go to comm manager and turn of the wifi.

here is a silly question.
Go into your comm manager and see if your Phone icon is on or off. (look to see if it has an X on it). If it is on, turn it off.. wait a minute... then turn it back on and see if that helps. Sounds like your phone is stuck in flight mode.

Wifi was off at the time - I made sure it was. I rebooted the phone multiple times with no avail...

did you try what i mentioned?

VanFanel,
Yes, I had the same problem with Faria's AKU3.3 rom. I'm using Tmobile and for some reason, nothing would allow it to reconnect to GPRS after about 1 day of use. Tried soft reseting, pulling the battery, disabling wifi, disabling and re-enabling the phone, making new connections profiles, disabling push, disabling activesync OTA, etc. You name it, I looked into it. I did a hard reset on the phone and it worked again for about a day and then just refused to connect again. Finally, I just installed the MB WM6 rom and everything has worked for the past week or so. The GPRS connection did pop up with an X for about 1/2 a day, but I have a feeling that was actually caused by Tmobile's network being down or unreachable in the area (thunderstorms), because GPRS was connected again in the morning. I never did figure out what exactly was wrong but I feel your frustration.

Yessir did that - nothing.
Doc_lee - excatly but i did not even have connection period. The funny thing I tried the mUn WM6 ROM and that worked just dandy, then I upgraded to Farias - and no dice, then I downloaded to Farias AKU 3.3 and it works just dandy.
Blah - I'll wait for the next revision

Solution!
I know why!
If you use "registry Wizard" you need to reenter your password, which is "tmobile" for your internet gprs connection.
Easy solution for a simple problem

Not sure what you are talking about. I don't see any option for a GPRS password within "Registry Wizard". Can you clarify or provide a screen cap?

GPRS Fix
Hey, I was experiencing the same problem with my orwells rom. I tried something but it's only been tested for one day...so far i have not experienced a drop out in my gprs connection like before (same as urs). create a new gprs connection with the exact same information as your previous one, just name it differently. go to settings-connections-add a new modem connection-put the same info as your current gprs settings - in "enter name for connection" put a different name.then under advanced- select networks select that "connection" as "program that automatically connect to the internet" then reset ur fone and see how it goes...just make sure u name ur connection differently compared to the old one - like creating a whole new different connection, only with the same gprs info

So let me get it straight - you also had the "two arrows and x" icon instead of the big G/E for the GPRS connection, then you tried a brand new connection and it worked fine?

Wi-fi trouble

I previously posted a question, but received no replies. Just wondered if anyone can now help me. There is wi-fi at work which I am able to connect to. However, whenever I do so, the 3G, GPRS takes over and connects that way. I cannot understand why or get around it. I am on o2. My colleague is on T mobile - I set his wi-fi link up in exactly the same way and he has no problems whatsoever. I am desperate for your suggestions.
Are you using push mail by chance? I found that M$ push will try to connect to GPRS even when WiFI connection is established. IE goes through the WiFi connection (obvious speed difference) but push mail won't let me kill GPRS.
Haven't found any solution to this yet.
Any chance you have tried turning the radio off!! Of course you wont be able to receive/make calls)
Just a suggestion though
I had same problem but managed to solve it (I have a Qtek9100 a.k.a Wizard with WM 5.0)
You must go to "Settings", select the "Connections" tab bellow and the click on the "Connections" icon. Once there you must select the "Advanced" tab bellow and click "Select Networks" button where you'll find a drop-down (combo) box responsible for the programs that automatically connect to the Internet.
You'll probably find there the connections you set for the GPRS and MMS. All you need to do is create a new one (can call Wifi or whatever) and select it.
That's it. hope you can do it

unwanted gprs connection

i have a problem with my s710...when i close pocketIE (from task manager) and stop gprs connection form comm manager, after few minuts the connection is up again! to stop this gprs connectin i must reboot my smartphone because in the comm manager wont work!
there is no other SW on my s710, so it's impossible that some program made che connection!
any idea?
Yep i get that too and no idea why

I also see a G (or E) in the middle and at the right hand side. And yes, according the manual the icon in the middle means G (or E) is available and the icon at the right there is an ongoing connection. I'm not sure whether the connection is actually used. I think there is no traffic. But that still leaves the question what initiates a connection on your guys S710.
On my S710 after re-enabling the phone function I only see a G (or E) in the middle, but not at the right. Also after some minutes.
I think thats a bug, when I use the gprs I get the small G instead of the antenna in the upper right corner. When I disable gprs it's still there. Has to reboot to get rid of it.
check email settings
you may want to check email settings. if you have selected to check your email account every X minutes the connection will activate automatically. uncheck the box or choose "never" and see if it happens again.
nope - both email accounts set to never

Check Live Messenger
Hello,
I noticed the same issue.
I had to perform a factory reset (Clear) to solve it.
I traced this issue to Microsoft Live Messenger, which tries to connect.
Hans
I wonder if there is anyway I can get it to prompt me before using the gprs?
Sometimes, while browsing, my wifi will cut out and start using my gprs. Which is why I would like my phone to ask me whether or not it can use gprs.
My old P900 always asked.
I'm currently looking if I can create a utility to do just that.
bump as I have the same issue...
most of the times I never realise that WIFi is gone and gprs has been activated.
There must be a way to ask us if we want gprs connection before actually activating it.....
Yep, same problem here. Sometimes I even disable "Phone" in Comm Manager and turn on "WLAN" just to be sure I'm surfing via my WiFi router, and not GPRS/EDGE.
You can always disconnect GPRS via the Comm Manager. Most programs have a setting weather to chose connection automaticaly or you can set it to wifi or gprs(like Internet Explorer)

That's the problem. The GPRS connection is active, but the GRPS in Comm Manager is disabled so you can't turn it off. I've seen some registry key changes that enable you to press the "red end call" key to stop the connection, but it soons resurrects itself and re-appears, and is still not enabled in Comm Manager to disable it.
I've not seen an option in Internet Explorer on the Smartphones to choose Wifi or GPRS, you just get "Internet", "Wap", "Secure WAP", "MMS", "Work". There is no option for Wifi only.
I been looking for a little program for a while now that prompts you when your Wifi connection has lost, and whether you want to continue with GPRS or not. So far, I've not found anything.
I've noticed programs such as Fring monitor such a connection and give you the option, but I would like to see something that is a seperate process and monitors the connection itself, and not just for one program.

You can apply this regedit in the way to disconnect gprs/edge connection simply pressing red button:
to resolve this problem:
Go to: HKLM-->Comm-->ConnMgr-->Planner-->Settings-->SuspendResume
and delete ~GPRS! value.
This value was couseing phone to keep active gprs connection by any meanings.
When you delete it, red button will close the connection again
Found this one somewhere one month ago.
Tested: it works.
Same problem here.
I have seen this issue discussed on several different forums. Is it a WM6 bug?
i just leave my gprs connection setting not set up. When ever i try and connect without WIFI i cannot use GPRS. This means i cant connect to the internet unless i have availble WIFI but at least i wont get billed for un wanted GPRS

It´s sad Windows Mobile/HTC forces you to do these things just to prevent being charged withour your consent.
had to do the same thing, just deleted the whole gprs account ... I actually got billed for 214 "gprs connection" the last month, wich was very expensieve. This is actually a huge bug, hope someone will fix it soon.
Its a money eating bug!

Frustrated!! Pocket Internet Explorer doesn't work when cradled

I have a Cingular 8525 with WM5, using the lastest version of Activesync. I do not have wifi or 3g internet connection on my cell phone. Everything is synced and seems to be working fine but PIE doesn't work.
My Network management settings are:
Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: "My ISP"
Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: "My ISP"
Under Connections it reads: My ISP, and for select a modem it says "Cellular Line"
How do I enable my phone to use pocket internet explorer when cradled? The reason is that my RSS reader cannot update because IE cannot connect.
Save me! I spent the last 4 hours trying to fix this problem.
Hi,
I had the same problem some time ago.
In ActiveSync\File\Connections I had to tick "This computer is connected to: The internet". Now it works.

Is AT&T your carrier? When did all this begin happening? The settings I've given you are to be made directly on your device, and not from a PC. Try "auto pick" instead of ISP GPRS, and see if that helps.

One more thing to try: go to your connections settings, tap on advanced (at bottom) select MediaNet from scroll box, tap "proxy" the box that says it uses a proxy to connect should be unchecked (empty) The top box should be checked. Ok here is the weird thing... I am running SPB mobile, and when I sync my weather is able to update for New York, NY. Doesn't that mean it must be getting an internet connection through PIE? DOes SPB mobile mess with the registry?
Anybody? Lately I've been using WiFi to update my phone but Id rather have it work when it is cradled.

Remote party has ended connection *Solution* 2125

Periodically I get the remote party connection ended message even with the latest radio update and ROMs.
Usually it means that another GPRS connection has been added or my previous connection has decided to use a proxy or my proxy has been changed.
I have no idea why my settings don't stick, but I suspect that the phone gets confused between new Cingular and ATT settings it picks up automatically.
I think the ATT article is right on, only keep in mind that you are changing GPRS connection settings in WM6. It isn't obvious from the article.

FUZE, Internet Sharing, Vista, USB

any reason why the above should not work "out of the box". i have been tethering fine with my BJ1 but got my FUZE yesterday and it's not working. Says "waiting for network" then "remote party has ended this connection".
i did try installing the modem drivers from the CD, did not help.
what is the most common cause of ICS not working with vista over USB?
thanks in advance.
did you uncheck enable advanced network functionality? Its checked as defualt. Uncheck it and try again.

i tried that, still does not work.
in VISTA i briefly see the RNDIS network connection go to enabled but quickly goes to disabled when the handset says "remote party has ended..."
on the FUZE i have
Settings | Connections | Wireless Manager | Data Connection = On
and the only thing i changed during my trouble shooting is
Media Net | Select a Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
settings also have wap.cingular as it should, and don't know what the preset password is - i haven't touched it. should i use the password that i know worked on the BJ1?
also, in WiFi Settings, does the Remote NDIS network adapter settings play into this? i put it on DHCP and it also says "connect to work" - should that be "internet"?
thanks

I had a similar issue:
An unlocked and custom-ROM Wizard worked with ICS just fine. My new Samsung Epix kept spitting out the dreaded "The remote party has ended this connection" almost immediately upon clicking Connect in ICS.
I see you already have MediaNET pointed to wap.cingular
I found I had to add the username and password:
[email protected]
CINGULAR1
I also set GPRS Authentication for MediaNET to CHAP.
I am internet sharing 3G beautifully over Bluetooth with Vista64.

Well the hard reset with no extra stuff installed did not work :-(
I hope some HTC wizard can figure this out.
I think this is a Windows Mobile registry settings issue, not an HTC issue. They set it this way at the request of AT&T.
Got this from:

This may actually fix both the missing Network drop-down and the "Remote party has ended the connection" issue. Its for Sprint, but worked for me. Just substitute MediaNET for Sprint.
After my first post, I had to do a Hard Reset and then the issue jamorgan2008 is having (Network drop-down not showing). I didn't have this the first time. I looked up the Registry Key and it had Cingular ISP as the ForceCellConnection value. I deleted it and am back on again. As such, this may also fix your issue as well, hondaguyjoe. Do you have the Network option in Internet Sharing or just PC Connection? You may need a Mobile Registry Editor for this.

I have two Touch Diamonds (not Pro's).

My Internet sharing (Start\Programs\Internet sharing) only has one drop down menu, "PC Connection".
My wife's has two drop downs "PC Connection" AND "Network connection".
Now I bought her's two days after mine at the same Sprint store.
Her Internet connection shares Internet via USB connected directly to a PC without issue.
Mine doesn't since I have not been able to set the missing "Network connection" drop down menu option to the appropriate setting of "Sprint". Instead it either say Waiting for network or error 67 invalid username and password (something like that)
I deleted the key: (not just the value)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection
Now I got the second drop down menu "Network connection", restarted the phone and now it works like a champ.
