WM5 on MDA - Speed/Compatibility Question - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 2005 Upgrading

Hi out there.
I read a lot about updates to WM5 for the Himalaya, but I found almost nothing about speed, compatibility etc. As I made an official (!!!) update for my hx4700 which turned out to render the device almost useless because of some serious speed issues (cleanup process took too much time, the device became slow, so navigation was annoying - it sometimes told me about 100 meters AFTER the junction what to do!), I would like to ask the following questions before trying to upgrade my MDAII:
1. My main reason for thinking about an upgrade is bluetooth. Does bluetooth work more stable with a headset, GPS receiver and Active Sync? Especially the head set causes problems with WM2003.
2. What about speed compared to WM2003? This would be an essential question for using the MDAII as a navigation tool. I am currently using Destinator 6 with GNS TMC receiver (serial port) or Royaltek RTG1001 (bluetooth). Does this work with WM5 as it is my most important application?
3. The HP became a little unstable. What about the MDAII (power switch, memory clean up / flash reorganisation etc)? The flash reorganisation sometimes froze the hp for almost a minute (nice when getting a phone call or using the device for navigation). Any experience here?
4. What about the german language pack for WM5 nocert? Does that work or is it possible to get a german WM5 somewhere - I read the thread but there seems to be no answer on where to get it from. I just got my MDAII from a friend and was to late for downloading it before M$ made xda developers remove all the rom files. Any help or any idea?
I hope this is not too much for now. Thanks for reading this and I hope there will be some answers as well.
Best regards,
Uwe

MDA2 and TomTom

Hi,
does anybody know, if the TomTom Navigator work on an MDA2. I've got my MDA2 since monday and i am not able to get TomTom Navigator (Version2 incl. the newest Updates) running. The installation-process works fine, but if I start the installed software, I get the lovely circling wheel in the middle of the screen...and that's all...hmmm...so, does anybody got a working installation of tomtom2 on an MDA2 or an XDA2 ???
Next question:
Does anybody have experiences with a Bluetooth-GPS-Mouse on a MDA2 (maybe this question is not very important, if the answer of the question above will be nefative ;-)
greets from frankfurt / germany
roberto
There's a thread on Bluetooth GPS and the XDA II/MDA II (http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3341)
in which there is an answer to both your questions.
Haven't seen anything new lately on either topic:
- Tom Tom with any kind of GPS
- Bluetooth GPS
I had the same problem, then I tried a different SD (128 instead of 256) card for map storage and it works. I remember TomTom having the same problems with Ipaq 5450’s until HP issued a fix.
I’ve just ordered a Bluetooth GPS.. Looks like I’ve got more problems ahead.

Please keep us informed, regardless if the Bluetooth GPS fails or not..
By the way: I read a review of the new Toshiba E800 PDA (which has a 480x640 screen  and beautiful indigo color (finally something else)) and the author mentioned testing the PDA with a Rikaline Bluetooth GPS receiver.
At first, he had difficulties connecting the Toshiba and the Rikaline, but managed to solve it by setting TomTom to 'Bluetooth Card' instead of 'COM6'.....
Might be worth a try :?:
Take care :!:
There is no 'Bluetooth Card' setting on Navigator 2.
I still can't get it to work.
Help!

 I guess it has to do with the Bluetooth Manager of the Toshiba then...
Nothing left but wait for Tom Tom updates and more MDA2 Bluetooth profiles
Somebody101, will you try something, install maps to main memory and see if that works, I know you can only install a portion but I would be interested to hear the results.

Is there a WM 6 ROM with differnet BT stack

Hello guys,
I am experiencing huge problems with my current ROM and these WM bulides (eg. the Ranju's - v7.4) here.
With my BT software, I am not able to use the "Service discovery" feature on my Qtek without pairing the devices.
Unsless I have with different ROMS, but not with a WM6 Smartphone (Samsung Blackjak) it seams to be a problem with WM Cores.
Can anybody help me out?

This is an interesting request. I have tried to make my universal work with A2DP using various registry hacks, but I can only get a couple of seconds of sound and then it cuts off. I swear it used to work last summer on a different ROM.
My guess is that changing the core might help.
Anyone can help?
I am not quite sure what my last rom was, but i think it was a 6 Pro Rom and I had the same problems.
YES,have Different Rom
Hi brother there's is a WM6 Roms of UNI with different BT stack,it is use Broadcomm bluetooth stack and work fine on my used, but in first you should know there have some bugs while you are picking up and ending the call with your BT headset's button, you should learn how to use it ,the roms link is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291875 ,it made from helmi_C ,I am very glad to use these rom since i used HP 4150 before and the HP use broadcomm stack,it have great a2DP quailty and can use avrcp profiles. Think it can help you !!
Okay thank you so long.
This BT Stack is avaiable for seperate download as well, but I not sure it if works...

Polaris freezes using HTC bluetooth headset BH S100

Hi everybody, I already tried to find an answer here but I didn't find anything related to that (but I'm an absolute newbie here so I could miss something... )
Anyway, I own my Cruise/Polaris since April this year e since the very beginning I've always had some problems using HTC AD2P bluetooth headphone BH S100.
I fixed some of them installing HTC's official fix ("HTC Touch Cruise_Cruise_BTheadset steady.exe") but the most annoying bug seems to be still here: after closing a conversation, Polaris freezes for 2/3 minutes and no command seems to work (neither tapping the screen nor using hw buttons).
During that time the device is unusable and - more disturbing - telephone services result unavailable (caller can hear the call ring but the device doesn't ring and doesn't record the missed call!).
Let me just add that this behavior occurs randomly, one or two times per week and only using bluetooth headset mentioned before (no experience with other bluetooth set).
Original ROM (1.25.408.1 ITA) and radio (1.58.21.23)
Did anyone ever experienced such kind of problem?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion!
...let me just add that the problem mentioned above recently occurs also with bluetooth radio off! And not only at the end of a conversation, but also during normal standby!
So, having excluded bluetooth responsibilities, this very much sounds like a WM hang.
Waiting for HTC official 6.1 ROM upgrade (if and when they'll release...), is there anything I can try to monitor/minimize the problem? Maybe a daily power off can help to clean memory registries or whatever can cause this weird behavior?
I still have above stock ROM & radio with few additional SW installed (Google Maps, MyMobiler, eWallet, Lotus Traveler, PHM RegEdit).
Tx
I use BH 100 as well. What happens is that with bluetooth you should only use wm player. If you use htc sound manager or S2P then when the call is out you will run into problems. Everything went away using wm player and cooked roms with the bluetooth fixes.
You can try the new ITA rom available (official) that udk put in the forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427625)
Tx pereirald, but the problem seems to be now independent from bluetooth's usage and I can exclude whatever music player as a possible cause (i.e. no players are running on my device during working hours).
Any other idea?

Handsfree-Extension like Jetware for Widcomm BT Stack

hello guys,
i'm new here and I hope im posting in the right section.
My car ist equipped with a bluetooth carkit (Blaupunkt USB/Bluetooth Interface).
It is using the handsfree-protocol (HFP) to connect the phone.
With a couple of "classical" mobiles (basicly nokia and siemens devices) it is possible to access the Phonebook and activate voice recognition by pressing the ptt-button of the carkit.
This is neither done through SimAccessProtocol (SAP) or SerialPortProtocol (SPP) nor by PhoneBookAccessProtocol (PBAP). The Carkit is nearly 2 years old, and beliving some sources i found PBAP is a newer Standard.
This Carkit connects to the phonebook using an extended Handsfree-Protocol.
My HTC Wizard didn't support the carkit at all. After a rom upgrade to some kind of wm6 rom it worked very well execpt for phonebook-access.
Some time ago i found a tool named "JETware Hands-free Extension for Windows Mobile phones" (http://www.jetwaremobile.com) which exented the HFP-Profile used by the Microsoft-Bluetooth-Stack and enabled the phonebook access.
Since my Wizard broke some days ago i bought a new phone. I thought it would be possible to use every WM6-phone with the mentioned plugin.
So i bought a LG KS20. It looks and works very well and i want to keep it. But i have a problem with it. It uses a Widcomm/Broadcom-Bluetooth-Stack (ver. 1.8.7.0600). It seems like it has much better support for bluetooth-devices than the Ms-Stack (and this must be the reason why most people want to use a widcomm-stack instead of a ms-stack).
It also has PBAP and SAP-Plugins.
BUT, since my carkit does not support PBAP or SAP, and the HandsfreeProfile seems to be just supported elementary (PTT-Button only for redial), phonebookAccess does not work on the LG.
The jetware-Extension only supports ms-stacks.
I already spend some nights on gathering information and testing settings but didn't get very far.
There are some registry settings concerning paired devices, where things like HFPfeatures are mentioned. The value is set to 257 and trying to change it to some other values didn't affect anything.
I also downloaded the Widcomm SDK and tryed to find something about these options, but since the SDK is two years old and nothing about HFP is included this also was worth nothing.
My last try was to use the MS-Stack (from wizard) instead of the widcomm-stack. The registry keys for Ms-Stack seem to be present, but all efforts ended up in about 5 hardresets.
Is there anyone here who can help me solving my problem?
Is there a cab file with a ms bt stack i could try anywhere?
Or is there an extension like jetware for the widcomm stack, respectively only a few registry changes are neccessary and someone knowns better?
many thanks,
andi
hi, I have the same problem, with my htc hd 2. have you found any solution?
bump bump bump
same problem with me as well
This is a common problem with M$ and car kits, see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519676&page=4 and many other threads like it.
I havent tried what he suggests yet, but i know my freelander 2 doesnt connect properly with all cooked roms i have ever tried so far (many!).
Not that this helps you as it is the software you have tried.

Car Kit Bluetooth Performance

Whenever I sync my Touch Cruise in the car (BMW) the interface lags! For example pressing the phone button on the steering wheel takes forever to pull up the phone menu on the car display. Also during a call if I press the hang up button on the steering wheel, it doesn't hang up right away. I have to keep pressing it multiple times. The actual sound quality through the car speakers is fine and the pairing is very quick so no problems there.
Is this a specific problem between the car and the phone? The car handles other bluetooth phones very well, such as the ahem..iPhone. The response when hitting the steering wheel buttons is instantaneous.
I currently have udk Syrius R8 Beta2 with radio 1.59.46.12. I read in one of the other forums on xda that it has something to do with TouchFLO. I disabled the Manila TouchFLO, turned off S2U2, still no luck. Any ideas?
I have similar problems with my XDA Orbit2 with WM6.1 and with my Ignito/Diamond with WM6.1 both with my Peugeot car BT and with Motorola BT headset.
An incoming call sometimes takes 10secs for the audio to be re-routed, PITA
I also found that if I'm running Navigon 6 and an incoming call gets picked up by the car BT then Navigon (or any other GPS app like GPSCycleComputer) gets screwed, the internal GPS gets disconnected.
I'm suspicious that the problem is due to the on chip BT and GPS.
My XDA Orbit (1) with WM6.0 doesn't have the same problem but of course it also has a seperate SirfstarIII GPS.
So, who knows, it could be WM6.1 or it could be the Qualcomm integrated chipset?
I'd like to re-install the original Orbit2 WM6.0 to see if that makes a difference but that's not completely simple as there is no full (official) O2 WM6 file available (AFAIK)
Yeah it's pretty annoying. I assume the udk ROM that I have has all the bluetooth patches, etc. I know other phones don't have this issue, so I'm hesitant to say it's the BMW bluetooth firmware. Something is laggy about the device when paired. I must say though I've never tried pairing it to a BT headset so I wonder what that will be like.
No one else having bluetooth performance issues with their car's built in Bluetooth system?
I have carkit trouble, but don't know why.
My problem is as followed:
I Drive a Renault Scenic with a Carminat Navigation System including Bluetooth Carkit
When I connect my HTC TC Everybody complains that quality is poor. Reception is louzy etc.
When I connect my HTC TD2 the problem dowsn't exist.
When I connect my Samsung Omnia the problem doens't exist ( but other problems in the phone appear)
When I connect my Nokia N73 with the current software I have a lot of problems ( even other then with the HTC )
When I connect my Nokia N73 with an old version of the software I have no problems...
All phones run the stock ROMS ( Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro ) / original Software. I first thought It might be a carkit problem, but as some phones work and others don't I tent to believe that it is a ROM problem (Maybe radio not good)
Is it possible to update the bluetooth driver / firmware?
Problem with HTC TC could be in radio driver.
But since there are problems with other devices, it could be problem with Carminat. You should check with Renault is there software update for it.
But first check if those phones are on Carminat's compatibility list...
The strange thing is that I have the problem with the nokia N73 when the software of the phone is higher then 2.69
According to Renault all Windows Mobile devices are supported / compatible.
I think it is the BT driver or Firmware. But don't know if it is possible to upgrade this to a newer version. Or to test this?
Yes,
My Parrot Mki 9100 works perfectly for phone calls, but doesn't play GPS navigation audio instructions.
Anyone know waht is wrong?

Have an appointment at the car deakership on Tuesday to see if there is an update or quickfix...
I still suspect the TC though
BT, GPS and GSM are controlled by radio driver.
Please check version, since even stock ROMs use different drivers.
So far, my version is flawless...

This is the same version I am using....
hi,
I have have quite some problems with BT connection with same radio driver see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=570153
I sent it for fixing to the dealer.
Hope a solution.
Went to the car dealer today. They updated the software and modified the microphone volume (lowered it) and the sound quality is improved.
At the car dealer they told me that they have a lot of issues with HTC phones in combination with the different carkits, although the newer phones have less problems. There is a new software upcoming before the end of the year which should solve more problems. but for now the problem is less....
I figured out why (but not the underlying cause) of the sluggishness when the phone is paired to the car. My phone shows very high CPU usage (90%) with services.exe when I look in task manager when the phone is paired. I noticed that using the actual device is sluggish, even just typing up a text. I don't know why that is. The moment I turned off bluetooth, it was back to normal.
Any idea what could be causing that?
Maybe radio driver...
I had such problem when I was on WM 6.0, but it was caused by failing radio chip...
