Tornado hardware fault. Reward! - HTC Tornado

I purchased a Tornado a little while ago and didn't vet it properly first. It was descibed as having a cracked screen which was actually a cracked LCD. I have replaced but I get only a white screen on boot. The unit works fine other than this as I can connect via BT and USB. I have been able to verify that the file system is fine. I am assuming water damage and am going to try the DISTILLED WATER / COOK solution, but before I do...
Now, being aware of my status here, I can only make an offer to anyone with expertise on this. If anyone thinks this a problem they can resolve I am either happy to sell them the phone, take their advise and split the profit when I resell it or send it for paid repair.
Any takers?
Thanks for taking a peek at this thread.
P.S. Please, no remiders of my remiss behaviour when purchasing it. I have already kicked myself half to death, thanks.

A white screen normally means the ribbon cable to the lcd is not inserted properly, make sure the white lines on the cable and the main board are lined up. I've had the same problem.

have had the same problem with htc tytn, p4350.
after reboot its okey again

Is my Qtek 9100 DEAD?!?!?!

M8s, can any1 help me?!?!?! While i am doing something on my phone, on display shows some strange lines, and display start to become white... It sometimes gone crazy with this, and sometimes, it works ok!!! I have WM5... anyone know what could be a problem...? And how to fix it?
Thx in advice!
dont worry ur phone is not dead maybe the wires that connects the lcd with the motherboard are not so good
So, what you think what i can do...? It usually gone wild while i am doing something big... For example: deletting big amounts of files in same time... I am not touching it while it deleting them and lines again apears... And phone is relatively new... 3 months old!
i've the same problem. i asked a lot of questions about this problem in other forums but no one helped me. Because they didn't know anything.
i changed a lot of WM6 roms but the problem is still going on. i opened my wizard and i connect the parts in my hand. It worked and the scrren didn't freeze. Then i put the parts in the case, the freezing came back. i remove the main part in the case and connect it outside the case, it didn't freeze. So i think the problem is in the wire thet connects the lcd to motherboard. I think i'm gonna change my lcd.
If anyone knows something or "Orbiter87" if you find a solution for this problem, please write here. Thanks...
(sorry about my english, it's not good enough)
Hey guys,
Your problems have nothing to do with ROMs, these sound like hardware issues with the wizard itself. Orbiter, if your wiz is less than 3 months, I'd hound the warranty. If you don't have warranty, you may have to do some home repair. I'd love to help you, but can't...I'd probably throw out my wiz before I attempt to do anything with its hardware.
And one more thing... When i am playing some games or turn on some programs, it works normal... So i think that it is something with ROM!
it's nothing about ROM
i have the same problem on my 9100 try to move the display a litle bit when the stripes appear
i said the problem was in the lcd wire but now i don't think.because i opened the case and took the mothermoard out of the case i turned it on. it work and touched-pressed everywhere on the board, lcd wire but it didn't freeze. Again i put motherboard in to the case, it' freezing started. i think i'm gonna buy a new one and throw away this one. otherwise i'm gonna be crazy...
had the same problem a long time ago.
in my case it was the batterytodayplugin/program called "batti" in combination with overclocking.
so what programs are installed on your wizard
steph
I erased lots of stuff! Now i have only:
Anton Tomov Pocket Mechanic
Loving Wife Unlock Ext Rom Wizard
C. Ghisler & Co. Total Commander
The screen going white usually happens when the Flexi Strip connecting the Lcd to the motherboard is either not properly fitted or is damaged, white screen is very rarely the fault of the LCD.If the wizard is in warrenty then send it back otherwise if you are willing to do it yourself then download the k-jam service manual and give it a go.
I think you mean "the wire that comes from lcd to the motherboard" as flexi strip. If so, i did a lot of thing with that wire but it didn't change. Like i said, when i took off the motherboard from the case, i pressed every point on the board but it didn't go to the white. But when i put it into the case and press or do something to the board it goes white. There is a problem with case but how can the case do something to the lcd' image...
(While doing this things, the wizard was open)

[HTC Universal] screen fried

hi all,
yesterday i got an aftermarket, all purpose usb charger that could charge my iphone, my htc, my zune and my bluetooth GPS device (easier to carry one charger for all)
i put my htc on charge overnight, the way i usually do, but when i checked it in the morning, the screen was not responding to touch. the screen was fine and i could do the navigation thru keyboard, just no response on touch...
the screen wasn't burnt or damaged in anyway from any side, neither was the device hot.....
my charger specs are 5v / 1.5 amp output....
i suspected a software issue, and hard-resetted as well, but no use!
any idea if the charger (amp rating) could be responsible for the damage?
thanks,
Farrukh

Same problem i'm facing . . . . .
Is there any solution to it ?
i had the same problem a couple day ago, sounds funny but
i've put it i portrait mode and just hit my left hand with my uni and it started working again,
btw check is there any dirt on the edges of the screen, try cleaning it
or go to align screen and tap every point of the screen to see if the cross moves
It is an interesting problem in a sense that it is sudden. Usually digitizer failures and loss of touch sensitivity happens over a period of time. The only time it can happen suddenly and completely is when the digitizer gets ripped off at the connector or comes loose over time. Doubt the charger was responsible. You have an intermittent (or permanent) digitizer failure. Try re-flashing ROM to exclude software corruption issue. If all fails - replace the LCD+Digitizer.
IN CASE EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS. I know it sounds extravagant to replace both, but unless you have a specialised equipment and/or are capable of flex soldering, I suggest purchasing both in one unit. Can either go new, in which case I suggest cnn.cn as one of the cheapest sources for Dopod D900 (which is the model you will be searching for on that site, no others will be available) LCD+Digitizer combos or... purchase a cheap failed second hand unit with good screen.
The replacement is a fairly straightforward job if you are capable of following the instructions precisely. The instructions can be found in a Service Manual floating somewhere on this site.

Att Fuze black screen need help please! Not a bad flash issue.

Hi all,
I am at my wits end on this problem if anyone can offer any adivice it would be greatly appreciated. So let me give a recap of what has occured thus far. The water damage tag for some reason turn pink thus i am unable to get warranty exchange. I am pretty certain that the phone has never been expose to any water of anything of that sort, but i do live in houston, tx so might be humidity or what not that cause the tag to turn. Anyways.
1. This all started after i flashed RRE 5.2 RC3. Initially after a successful flash everything seem normal and fine. Then next morning i woke up to a frozen screen with many verticial lines running up and down the screen was almost unreadable. Initially i thought it was a bad flash or just random lock up. I did a hard reset and tried to enter the bootloader. Black screen, it does seem like the backlight is coming up but nothing on the screen. I can hear the phone power on and boot successfully into windows. Activesync connects i can browse the contents of the phone.
2. After flashing to stock att rom and stock htc roms same symptoms. So at this point i am thinking crap bad LCD screen. so I ordered both the digitizer and lcd screen for good measure. I replaced them hoping that a bad LCD was all. replaced both screens and i powered on the phone. same problem. black screen. The phone still powers on and boots into windows. Activesync still connects and i cna still reflash the phone.
3. I work extensively and do both desktop pc and notebook repair. I am not new to dealing with small electronic repairs. but at this juncture i am unable to identify the cause of hte malfunction. i am hoping maybe some of the gurus here might be able to shine some light on the subject.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I would have followed the same approach; your description makes it sound like it might be some kind of backlighting issue at first read. I'm inclined to think it might be a cold connection (bad connector) on the main board.
Silly question, what happens if you power up the phone with the keyboard exposed?
*EDIT* Not sure if you have been here yet: http://www.mikechannon.net/
Cheers,
i just tried to power up the phone with keyboard exposed. Powers up the same as with the keyboard hidden. Still boots up fine but black screen. I already have the service manuel dowloaded. i have checked around with several repair places both local and on the web. Seems like no one has any parts for the att fuze/touch pro gsm except for the lcd and digitizer and a speaker.
its quite possible that it is a main board but as the same time it might be something as simple as a ribbon cable. i have contacted htc about doing a possible repair and they want wayyyy too much for just a main board repair almost $400 USD.
Anyone have a bricked/ non working touch pro they would like to sell ? =P

Could be a bad ribbon cable ... and firmly pressing around the front/back of the unit shows no change?
pressing the phone front and back show no changes to display. in a very dark room I can see that there is light emitting from the display but its just the screen is not displaying anything visable. this occured both before and after i changed out the screens. I'll do another visual inspection of all the boards to see if there is any bad resistors burnt out circuits etc.. but i didn't notice anything mentionable during my first 2 inspections. Maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far Hilaireg it is quite appreciated. All this venting has at least made me feel 1000% better than after i replaced my lcd and still same problem at least i don't feel like a complete idiot!
Sorry I couldn't be of much help ... you've done all the steps a seasoned hardware person would do.
Do post back to let other folks know if you get it back up and running.
Cheers,
you have a pm fkoong.
I have possibly the same problem. Phone got wet, dried it out for 2 days (in a container of rice). Phone worked but had "water marks" on screen that disappeared after two days and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day (happened to be humid misting rain eve in Charleston) the screen is blank (hint of backlight only). A soft reset and it seems OK for about 1hr, then blank again. The hard resest screen displayed OK (readbale text etc), but didnt work. But as I write this, I retry to document it results correctly and the NATF ROM is reloading and the screen works! We will see how long!!
Well.. not that long, the end of the ROM load and it went blank again, seems like a video driver problem. The Press VoluP to boot does show some red artifact.
Trying hard reset again (No SIM no uSD)
The NATF v4.4 loads and gives me the Tap screen, Align Screen, stylus, loads customization, opera, tf3d, then loads a bunch of files under ...... and then the screen goes blank again, seem like what happened last time, so Ill try loading a fresh ROM copy... later

HTC Fuze, Black/Blank Screen. Everything Else works, just can't see it.

Firstly, my screen does not show visuals. I can still touch the screen and make things happen, but it is just a back-lighted black screen. I have answered calls on it and such. Basically I'm returning it and getting a new one.
Since I am getting a new one, I want to see if anyone ever heard of this problem and to see what the cause of it is, for prevention purposes.
I didn't get it wet (the white sticker in the back is still white.) Though I have flashed PROven ROM to it a couple months ago (it's a great ROM by the way), but could that have messed up my screen?
I also wanted to know since I can't see the screen, would I have to, for warranty purposes, (blindly) reflash to the Stock ROM?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, you probably oughta return it to stock configuration (good luck on that!). If you're really lucky, that might even fix the problem. Have you done a hard reset yet? Might be worth a try, although it certainly sounds like a hardware problem.
Sounds like the flex cable has gone bad
Exactly same thing happened to me this Tuesday. Luckly I backed up info to memory card using PimBackupV2.8 with remote control software on my PC. With the remote contol tool, I could see everything as if on my phone and icons are clickable.
Hard reset did not fix the issue. I then flashed the shipped official ROM and stock SPL for warranty purpose. Will send the phone to them today for repair.
mine also like that..
from vodafone also..
the things that make me panics is the phone become hotter and hotter.

Summer is coming...
Sometimes they make updating phones too easy......
The back of my phone often gets hot I have to use the edges to hold it even though it was not a hot day and it is in my pocket.
blank screen
ya so my screen is blank white
but everything else works
i've heard something about this being a faulty "flex cable"
how can i fix this?
thanks so much for your help
how do i fix this???
did you eventually find out how to fix this/???
u ever end up fixing that? how?
thankss
Mine was still in warranty so I rang Vodafone. They sent me a special delivery envelop the following day. I sent it back to them. The following day I got a text message from them saying they got it and was working on it to fix the fault. The next day received another message saying the device was on the way back to me and I should receive it the following day.
Actually they sent me back a replacement
So.. basically.. is this a faulty flex thing?
I had the same problem for the last week until today i was about to buy another one since i dont have any warranty for this one.. I searched google and saw somebody say that just putting a business card between the keyboard and the lcd and then slide it and it works so far
hope it helps everybody
Ack! my Fuze, which I got off eBay a few months back, just went black too.
I'm not exactly sure whether it's the LCD or the flex cable, but the fact that the D-pad backlight also has become intermittent makes me think it's the cable.
So has anyone attempted the flex cable repair themselves? I see you can buy the cable for around $40 and the LCD for around $80 from Hong Kong.
Maybe this is a sign I should just get an Android device.

Did you end up fixing it? I have the same problem.
same thing happened to me Twice.... in my sleep overnight. I LOOOOOOOOVe my raphael but man this was the last straw
This maybe of some help for those of you with blank screens. I bought a Touch Pro on ebay that had a very dark screen, occasionally you could just make out some icons being displayed. Using Mymobiler showed that the basic system was working, as was the touchscreen. Other symptoms were that the camera would not work and the keypad lighting was intermittent. Sometimes on connection to Mymobiler a dialog box would come up saying there was an error with Microp?!?
Despite cleaning all internal connections and ensuring they were correctly and securely made the problem remained. I then noticed that the small camera used for video calls (in a socket on the main flex cable) looked very dirty and corroded. I removed the camera module and, using a fibreglass brush, cleaned the contacts on both the socket and the camera module. These were very badly corroded with verdigris.
On putting everything back together I was most surprised to find the screen was now working, as was the main camera. Unfortunately the ROM that is loaded doesn't seem to have any facility for checking the front video camera. There are still problems with sound - both the loudspeaker and the headphones seem to be dead and I have not had the opportunity to test GPS, Wifi, bluetooth, buttons, etc, however I will keep working on it.
Hope this is of help to someone.

Touch Screen Stops Responding - All Else Works

Anyone else who owns a Touch Cruise have their touch screen just stop functioning altogether? I came back to use my phone which was just sitting in the car and the touch screen no longer works...Obviously this did not happen due to being dropped, though it was a little warm nothing unusual by any standard.
All the hardware keys work, everything else...just the touch screen is dead. Has anyone else had this happen and if so were there any steps to reviving the screen or was replacing it an option, if so what did you do?

I had this problem with mine, it was just to send it to their lovely repair center through the dealership since I still got my Warranty, they exchanged the front panel, witch senses the touching. Depending on where in the world you live you should be able to by a separate one, or get it repaired by them. I hope it solves for you...
Thanks, I am well out of the 1 year warrant and in the US, which is not even where this phone was originally warranted so there is no chance of that.
I believe the cost of repair outside of warranty, and the time it would take that I would be out of my phone would not be worth it. I am hoping that I could purchase a replacement screen and repair it myself...Anyone have any direction here to do so?
Let me clarify something in regards to the malfunction. The screen itself is still visible and I can see everything as I would normally on a fully functioning lcd screen...The screen simply does not respond to any touch!
Touch Screen stop
hi i install the wwe-hero-3g and it stop it say"Tap the screento setup the windows" my phone is a at&t 8525 so what can i do.
i have the exact same problem. makes the phone useless
Hi try getting into the screen set up, ie where you tap the screen on first boot. You can use the program "mymobiler" to operate the screen through the computer.
Hope this helps!!
Same ****..
Have the same silly situation. Can´t even install the above program as it is impossible to respond "yes" to question about installing.
Have just ordered a replacement digitizer from this source:
http://www.chinaontrade.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=htc+digitizer&categories_id=
Don´t know if I will be able to fix it and I have also ordered a new Iphone as
I´m getting tired of all the problems with my loved Touch Cruise.
