about «ALL-IN-ONE Guide» by toomuchdogfur - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi!
I've read this «ALL-IN-ONE Guide» by toomuchdogfur
(here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273911&highlight=upgrading+magician).
Is important the Active-sync version for the rom upgrade?
I use 4.2.0 build 4876: I need to use another version?
I need to turn off Antivirus and firewall?
The sim card can be plugged in?
The guide tells «sd card 128mb preferred»: someone try to do the upgrade using bigger card?
Thanks!

The ActiveSync version doesn't matter, namely because ActiveSync isn't used in the upgrade.
You shouldn't need to turn off your antivirus or firewall as the upgrade doesn't use any applications that need to access the internet or any protected system resources.
The SIM card can be left in or taken out - the upgrade process doesn't touch it.
The recommended SD size is 128MB as ROMs are typically 64MB, though I like to keep the extra storage space there as a safeguard. However the larger the card, the longer the process will take as your Magician will, during backup, attempt to fill the entire SD card regardless of how big the actual ROM is. Also this will give you a bloated file size if you decide to copy your ROM to your computer (eg. If you backed up your ROM on a 256MB card, then it will be 256MB in size if you copy it to your computer). Having said that, you should be fine with SD cards up to 1GB as long as you don't mind the extra time and space required.

i foiund it was strange. i can't upgrade the rom in vista which had installed the mobile center.and i works very well when i copy files pc to ppc.but it still can't upgrade the rom.so i change to xp.Then setup the ActiveSync.at last i can upgrade the rom.. hehe to find a friend to train my poor english.my e-mail:[email protected] thanks

I will found a 128mb sd card for the occasion!
Thank you very much for your guide and your help,

Big Storage+128 sd card

Hi folks
its me again wanting to ask a few questions before i get my hands dirty.
after upgrading my radio version to 1.13, now i want to go ahead with Big storage.
first question is do i really need a 128mb sd card, or can i use my 1gb sd?
question 2, will this big storage hack be applicable with my imate NEW jam? A.F.A.I.K, the big storage hack was used with previous models.
3rd question, if i fail doing the big storage hack ( or i encounter problems during the process), is it possible to revert back to my imate's original state?
thanx in advance
U can use 1GB SD card but U will have to work with files as large as your SD card size. As the matter of fact there is no problem with keeping backups - winrar can shrink it down to less than 100 MB AFAIK.

Increase Storage space for WM2005

How can we I the storage space of WM2005 From 14.54MB to around 32MB?
I kept on running out of disk space. After installing all my programs, I end up with just 3.53MB. Most if not all of my programs are even installed in the flashdisk.
I would appreciate any help any one of you can give me on this matter. Thanks!
This is the exact problem I am having too. I tried installing memmaid but there was nothing to remove from the memory and the storage > memory slider will not move. I tried unlocking the extended memory but the programs would not run (nothing at all happens) and I tried using doc tool but it doesn't seem to have done anything. On my XDA2 I have the 64/64 version of wm5 installed and have 56mb spare. I have 3 out of 14mb spare on the storage disk and cant find anything to remove. I have a 2gb SD card in the unit.
Can someone help please?
Thanks
I tried the same version 64/64 until earlier this afternoon. I downgraded to 32/96 so that I may have a larger storage space. but alas! Nothing happened.
You can use "HIMA doc tools" to delete almost all ext ROM and join it with storage thus having 30MB of storage.
HOVEWER! DON'T instal anything in this storage!
Storage in MDA2 is slow, and in WM5 is regularly compacted via proces filesys.sys (or sth like this). When you are filling storage, compacting it will take longer and longer and Himalaya works slower and slower...
In short: install everything on RAMDisc provided in the newest ROMs
If you want easy way, install ROM from this thread, it's the newest ROM available:

or this one (older but proven to be quite stable)

If you like tweaking, take a look at ROM kitchen:

Marx2,
How do we do that? Sorry I donno a thing about reprograming. I will appreaciate it though if you could guide me. Thanks!
I was able to unlock and erase some parts of the extended ROM. However, I do not know how to merge the space that I freed and the current storage space that I have. Any suggestions?

Wizard uses FAT16 or FAT32 ?

My friend just got TOPRAM 2GB miniSD and we try to setup his Wizard.
When I want to format (using card reader) this miniSD, should I choose FAT or FAT32 ?
Also is it possible to format card in Wizard itself and how ?
Thanks

software to format your card in your wizard
You can also access your storage card thru my computer. it will show up as a device with removable storage. use wm5torage.
You can use either FAT or FAT32, it doesn't matter. The wizard can read both of them. I always format my cards in a card reader because wizards sometimes have a problem seeing unformatted cards and you wont be able to access your card at all. To format format the card I always go through disk management in computer management under administrative tools in the control panel. If I remember right, if you just right click on the card in the card reader and then click on format it only gives you the option of FAT where disk management will give you the FAT32 option as well.
The reason I was asking is because I was able to format miniSD in card reader both FAT and FAT32 and put some data (CABs) to it using "My Computer", but ... when I try to install some CABs from that miniSD ... it just hangs.
So I was thinking ... may be it is because of wrong format. Now I believe that problem is in miniSD itself, because I was able to install same CABs from my other card.
You might try reformatting in FAT and see how that works. I've tried both on mine and there never seems to be much of a noticable difference. I've read that it might make a difference on older ROM versions. It deffinitely can't hurt anything to convert it to FAT and try again before giving up on the card.
I tried both FAT and FAT32 on BOTH cards. They all failed, both in very strange way ... I was able to read/write to the card using "My Computer". I was able to see files using Wizard "Explorer", but when I click CAB installation will start and then hang. Or one CAB will install, but second will hang.
Unpredictable
Both cards are miniSD 2GB from TopRam, from eBay power seller.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you putting the cab files on your card and then installing them from there or are you putting the cab files in the \windows\start menu\programs and and then when they install you're choosing to have them install to the card and then they are failing? If it's the first one I mentioned, that might be the problem right there. I'm not so sure that SD cards are really made to be read from and written to at the same time and putting the cab files in the \windows\start menu\programs folder and installig from there would solve that issue. If it's the second one I mentioned, it might just be the programs that you're installing. I've had issues with several programs that when I tried to install them to my card they hung up and ended up actually corrupting my card. The fact that you have 2 cards doing the exact same thing makes me think that it may not be the cards that are at fault.

Im just guessing that you are using a ROM which uses mUn's latest 5.2.1413 as base. If that is the case, heres what i reccomend. Go back to a previous ROM which maybe uses mUn's previous release or farias rom as a base.
Why u ask? I have noticed that with ROM ver .1413, i either lose or see corrupt info on the SD card which on first boot is readable for a few minutes/seconds, but after i change the OS to say core 2.0 fior example, everything is back to normal on my SDcard.
I noticed this because just as u, i was trying to install some cabs off the card, the first was successful and the others just did nothing, on closer scrutiniy (tried playing songs stored on SD) i noticed that some files were missing and others corrupt.
just my advice, hope it works for u...
P.S. Everything was back to normal (all info was fine on SD) after going back to a previous version of OS

Memory card backup, format, restore.

Ok so i installed Pocket mechanic 2.9x and tried a defrag which stated the FAT system was damaged, so i tried it's scan disk which was useless..
Anyways I've got a HTC TyTN with wm6 and i'm itching to try exFAT as the file system on the memory card which is essentialy my entire PDA HDD, like with my desktop computer I do not like storing anything on the internal windows drive.
So I was wondering: Can I with some utility make a backup of some sorts, maybe an ISO of the entire memory card, if say i inserted the card into my desktop computer, formatted with exfat and then restored the backup, would my PDA get the fritz or would everything work just a little bit better?

You can make backup in computer. It would be better to format in vista because it will give many options of formatting which depend on your choice. I don't think you will loose anything after restore.
in my signature, there is a link to the GUIDES thread.. you can see how to backup everything in one of the guides posted there..
Complete backup
Hello, I am also interested in backing up all the phone memory. Is there any software that can backup all data on the device? HTC TyTN II.
I have upgraded a tablet that I have (ainol Novo 7 Paladin) and I have made this backup and I found it very useful.
I want to flash this HTC and install another OS but before that I would like to back-up the WM6 in case something goes wrong.
Thank you,
Caius

[Q] how to download big files from HD2

"Hello Guys.
Maybe someone of you can give me a helpful hint.
I´m running a Magician device, but i think it´s not important which device is used. With the device I´m using a sandisk Wifi card with 256 MB Storage integrated.
The last days i tried to download a file with approx. 30 MB. SD-Card with Wifi was complete clean, but the Memory of the device just have about 24 MB free. For downloading I used the integrated IE in the WM2003SE. The download should be saved on the storage card, but the download failed because of not having enough free space. So I think the device first downloads the file as temporary file on the System memory and then copies it to the SD card.
So, how can I change this to be able to download files directly to the SD card?
Stefan"
This is the question that some guy asked back in 2006. bun none answered. I have the same problem this days with my HD2 on win 6.5 with 8GB SD card, but only 46MB free integrated memory. I was try to download 80MB file from internet, but it was impossible because both opera and IE making temp file in main memory, and after successful download it was been removed to SD card and cleared from main memory. How to avoid making that temp file and allow download some file bigger then the free main memory? Can anyone help?
