Big Storage+128 sd card - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi folks
its me again wanting to ask a few questions before i get my hands dirty.
after upgrading my radio version to 1.13, now i want to go ahead with Big storage.
first question is do i really need a 128mb sd card, or can i use my 1gb sd?
question 2, will this big storage hack be applicable with my imate NEW jam? A.F.A.I.K, the big storage hack was used with previous models.
3rd question, if i fail doing the big storage hack ( or i encounter problems during the process), is it possible to revert back to my imate's original state?
thanx in advance

U can use 1GB SD card but U will have to work with files as large as your SD card size. As the matter of fact there is no problem with keeping backups - winrar can shrink it down to less than 100 MB AFAIK.

Hi!
I've read this «ALL-IN-ONE Guide» by toomuchdogfur
(here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273911&highlight=upgrading+magician).
Is important the Active-sync version for the rom upgrade?
I use 4.2.0 build 4876: I need to use another version?
I need to turn off Antivirus and firewall?
The sim card can be plugged in?
The guide tells «sd card 128mb preferred»: someone try to do the upgrade using bigger card?
Thanks!

The ActiveSync version doesn't matter, namely because ActiveSync isn't used in the upgrade.
You shouldn't need to turn off your antivirus or firewall as the upgrade doesn't use any applications that need to access the internet or any protected system resources.
The SIM card can be left in or taken out - the upgrade process doesn't touch it.
The recommended SD size is 128MB as ROMs are typically 64MB, though I like to keep the extra storage space there as a safeguard. However the larger the card, the longer the process will take as your Magician will, during backup, attempt to fill the entire SD card regardless of how big the actual ROM is. Also this will give you a bloated file size if you decide to copy your ROM to your computer (eg. If you backed up your ROM on a 256MB card, then it will be 256MB in size if you copy it to your computer). Having said that, you should be fine with SD cards up to 1GB as long as you don't mind the extra time and space required.
i foiund it was strange. i can't upgrade the rom in vista which had installed the mobile center.and i works very well when i copy files pc to ppc.but it still can't upgrade the rom.so i change to xp.Then setup the ActiveSync.at last i can upgrade the rom.. hehe to find a friend to train my poor english.my e-mail:[email protected] thanks
I will found a 128mb sd card for the occasion!
Thank you very much for your guide and your help,

ROM 1.13 Does it support 1gb or Higher SD/MMC

Sorry but i've tried searching the threads for answer yet with no luck.
Does the 1.13 ROM supports 1gb or higher SD/MMC?
Thanks in advance!
I've been using both 1 and 2 gb Sandisk SD normal and ultra versions without any problems.
Thank you Sir for your reply, It seems i have a problem with my Magician, I upgraded it to the 1.13 ROM and Radio Version, now it couldnt read my 1gb SD.
Im not sure what went wrong, might be restoring my previous ROM. Thanks again.
Before you go to the restoring process, backup your SD card to your PC then try to reformat the SD card using your device then restore the data.
how to reformat our sd with our magician?
Well i have installed version 1.13 radio rom, 2.03TX rom and it work fab with 2gb cards.
cheers Mark
definetely works with 1GB SD... never try 2GB (goz.. should wait bit longer and bought 2GB instead of 1GB!! now memory price is like a peanut)
It does work with 1,2,4 Gb SD Disks but be carefull which brands you buy...
(don't you go for the cheapest SD cards since there's an high chance of not working on your magician).
My advice is to try the SD disk you'll buy BEFORE leaving the store...
Keeper
Most likely the problem is with your SD card, I've tried a lot of cards from 8mb to 4gb in my Magician and all worked fine.
As someone already said, format the card using a PC, and try every card you buy before paying it.

suggestion for ROM cookers :P

I don't want to sound like an idiot here... but..
Since the HTC Magic/MyTouch ... whatever else name it got... has 512MB ROM, can we stop doing app's to SD, it REALLY slows down the phone more than it's helping.. (Apps to SD was needed for G1, cause it only has 256MB ROM).
Also, If using the swapper method, could we stick the swap file on internal ROM, and not the SD, this way we don't get "damaged SD card" messages when mounting/unmounting. And yea... linux-swap.. same thing.. I don't think SD card is as fast as internal ROM space.
Anyone agree?.... don't flame, just making a suggestion ^^;
Btw, I'm using ehrm...that Fatality one...
Thanks!!
Good suggestion, why use the Sdcard when the internal memory on the Magic is fairly large and could easily handle a swap partition.

Apps, yes, maybe.
Swap - no way. If you over-use the internal NAND past its read/write cycles and kill it, it's not as if you can swap it out like an SD card.

[Q] changing sd card on rooted wildfire(android)

hello there.I have a rooted(unrevoked) htc wildfire with a 2gb sd card.I want to change the 2gb card with a 8gb one.I have several questions about this:
1)Does unrevoked have anything to do with my sd card,i mean if i change the sd card will i have to root it again or will i somehow brick my wildfire?I dont really know how i rooted it...i just connected my htc with my pc and ran unrevoked...i remember i didnt do anything i just let it that way and after several reboots it was good to go.(is there unrevoked documentation available...for example i need to know what an hboot is...)
2)my 8gb sd card is formatted as FAT32...what types of format does android 2.1 support?and which is the best?
3)and one more dump question...will using a higher capacity sd card make my phone run slower than before...?although i think i already know the answer
thanks in advance

[Q]

Hello,
My GF has a g2x and I am attempting to put CM7 on it. I have installed CWM but found that it will not make backups as I dont have a microSD card installed. Is it possible to make backups/save ROMs ect to the internal memory? I dont have any extra microSD cards and every single store in my city is sold out of the small (cheap ) cards. Id hate to buy a 32GB card just to put backups and CM7 on considering the phone has such a large internal memory.
EDIT:Mods, is it possible to add a title? I cannot believe I left off the title...:-(
Thanks guys!

Select the 4.0 version of the One-Click NvFlasher found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
The newest version lets you flash from internal and external, but you can only backup to external. The internal version of 4.0 doesn't let you backup of flash to a microSD but should let you backup and flash from the internal memory.
Hope this helps
