[Q] changing sd card on rooted wildfire(android) - General Questions and Answers

hello there.I have a rooted(unrevoked) htc wildfire with a 2gb sd card.I want to change the 2gb card with a 8gb one.I have several questions about this:
1)Does unrevoked have anything to do with my sd card,i mean if i change the sd card will i have to root it again or will i somehow brick my wildfire?I dont really know how i rooted it...i just connected my htc with my pc and ran unrevoked...i remember i didnt do anything i just let it that way and after several reboots it was good to go.(is there unrevoked documentation available...for example i need to know what an hboot is...)
2)my 8gb sd card is formatted as FAT32...what types of format does android 2.1 support?and which is the best?
3)and one more dump question...will using a higher capacity sd card make my phone run slower than before...?although i think i already know the answer
thanks in advance

Goldcard risks?

About to get the Inspire and get right on with rooting, although I've been reading and not understanding how this goldcard works completely. I guess my concern is the errors some users are getting? Where they need to use another HTC device to get the right cid code or something? I dont have another HTC device, can I actually lock my device out? Please advise as I'll risk rooting only so far. Thanks, maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion.
if you follow the instructions in the hack kit, you shouldn't have any issues. this was my first experience with creating a gold card and it went smoothly. just be patient and persistent.
I am also about to buy the Inspire. So can we use the bundled SD card for the gold card? or do we have to have a spare card for emergency restore and stuff?
You can use the card it comes with.

Good question as I was going to use a spare one. I might as well use the one it came with. I'm about to begin. whats the worst that can happen?

I will probably keep a spare one around. Would you recommend that?

use whatever works. just keep in mind you can't use the goldcard.img file you get from the email on any card other than the one you got the serial number from. I bought a 16 GB card to use with my phone anyway, so I used the 8 GB it came with and put it in a drawer in case I ever need it again.

Oh okay. I have 1 8GB with me right now and I will get the one with Inspire. So is 8GB enough for the gold card so that I will keep it for .img file?
I will keep the spare in my phone.
Sorry I am a total noob in this. I come from iPod family
It will work with a 2 GB card minimum from what I read.
what does that mean? i have a 8 gig myself so just process for a goldcard.img? then save then use if needed?

The goldcard was only necessary to get past the very first stage of rooting. A goldcard is used to force the device into accepting a ROM that was not designed for the particular device (in the case of Inspire, you must install a DesireHD ROM to be able to continue with the rooting process).
Once you're rooted, the rooting process sets SuperCID in hardware so a gold card is no longer needed, even if you want to install a ROM not designated for your device.
In short, use your 16GB card just as you normally would (maybe save the 4G in case you ever need to root a different device).
Thank you for your fast reply.,
i understand the idea behind the goldcard beter now,.

[Q] Changing SD card on a rooted DINC, help!

Hey everyone, I have a rooted DINC, used unrevoked and i'm running cyanogenmod 7. I have a stock 2GB card that is running out of space and i need to upgrade my card. If i upgrade to a bigger card is that going to mess with my root? i know that the Clockwork mod recovery files are on the current SD card.. what do i have to do to make this a smooth transition? I've already backed up my current files from the stock sd card.. Any help is much appreciated!
I don't think it will be a problem and if it is you'll just have to reroot which isn't difficult really
Backup your current SD card on to your computer, then place the files on the new card. Probably want to make sure the new card is formatted fat32 as well. It should be fine, you shouldn't lose anything. Clockworkmod just keeps your backup files on SD card, wont mess with root.

Thanks! that's what i wanted to know. One more thing... I can't find what class microsd card the Incredible comes with stock, when i buy a new card can i get a class 2, or should i shoot for a 6 or something. I wasn't sure if a class 2 card would be fast enough to handle the custom recoveries and all that..
Can't remember for sure but I think the stock card is class 2. I'd say that a class 2 or 4 would be fine. Not sure that the extra $$ for a class 6+ is really worth it, for our phones at least.

No you wont have to reroot. Copy all of your SD contents into a folder on your computer, then power your phone off, switch to the new card, power on, connect to PC, recopy all your files back to your card. That way you won't lose any files. Root has nothing to do with the SD card btw so don't worry about that.
If I've helped you show me a little thanks!

[Q] Using different SD card for partition

Hi all and thanks for reading.
I successfully unlocked and rooted my HTC Status/ChaCha (S-ON) yesterday using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452173
I'm glad I found this site because I was about to pay someone to do it. I literally just bought this phone a few days ago from eBay and sold my BlackBerry. All in all, I love it but just dislike the fact that we have to go through these steps just to make it capable of holding a few apps.
I just found out that I need to enable a2sd in order to use App2SD but first I need to partition my SD card. I currently have a 2gb sd card in my phone but don't have a card reader. So I ordered a new 8gb sd card along with the reader so I can continue with the process. My question is how do I go about installing the new sd card since the rooting and unlocking was done using my 2gb sd card? I already found the tutorial to partition the card using Mini Tool.
Please bear with me and I'm sorry if my question irritates anybody. I'm just new and ignorant when it comes to Android. I've read dozens of threads and many of them might as well be in Chinese lol.
TIA!
Just partition your new card, then copy the contents of the 2Gb card over to the main partition of the 8Gb card.
The rooting/unlocking is held within the system partition (or another internal partition) which is held within the handset, so switching out the memory card won't affect it.

[Q] SD Card AFTER installing ROM

Once I install the ROM on my Transformer, can I take the SD card out and leave it out?
I am not a noob, I did search these forums and others before posting this and could not find an answer...
On my old WinMo devices, the ROM actually ran from the SD card... I am not sure of the newer Android devices and don't have another card for my tablet...
Your TF does not need a micro SF card to operate so yes you can take it out.
It's not a bad idea to have one in to make nandroid backup ect.
