[Q] how to download big files from HD2 - General Questions and Answers

"Hello Guys.
Maybe someone of you can give me a helpful hint.
I´m running a Magician device, but i think it´s not important which device is used. With the device I´m using a sandisk Wifi card with 256 MB Storage integrated.
The last days i tried to download a file with approx. 30 MB. SD-Card with Wifi was complete clean, but the Memory of the device just have about 24 MB free. For downloading I used the integrated IE in the WM2003SE. The download should be saved on the storage card, but the download failed because of not having enough free space. So I think the device first downloads the file as temporary file on the System memory and then copies it to the SD card.
So, how can I change this to be able to download files directly to the SD card?
Stefan"
This is the question that some guy asked back in 2006. bun none answered. I have the same problem this days with my HD2 on win 6.5 with 8GB SD card, but only 46MB free integrated memory. I was try to download 80MB file from internet, but it was impossible because both opera and IE making temp file in main memory, and after successful download it was been removed to SD card and cleared from main memory. How to avoid making that temp file and allow download some file bigger then the free main memory? Can anyone help?

USING STORAGE CARD AS MEMORY

Hey. I'm really new to this forum.. and please excuse me if i'm being ignorant at any time. Just bought a new XDAii Mini and realised that the memory is very less which makes the phone work very slow at time specially if multiple programs are running. So since the memory is only around 60mb or so... can't we utilize the space from our storage memory to work as memory ... basically.. can't the phone use storage memory to work faster... pls advice.
tried searching this forum for answers.. but i gave up.. any help would be appriciated. thanks.
if you've already installed programs i advise a soft reset.
-optionally install the big rom hack to get an extra 20mb of "storage" memory.
-then find a program called cabinstl to re-install all your programs to storage card.
-optionally use a program called memmaid to relocate various large dlls (support files) to storage or storage card.

After vijay advise, read this thread and I gurantee U could get at least 35mb free memory space on startup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16785
using MM to move the dll files to storage card, how much memory will that get you and also if hard reset, the dll will be back to main memory, correct?. Thanks

sorry myy friend the answer is no. your device will first download the filee in a temp file till it is completed downloading. then it moves the file from the temp file to memory card.
if you ppc doesn't have enough space in device memory to complete download the message you talk about will show.
move some files to your storage card (such as your pictures and stuff) to free up space and then download
moving some files from int storage would prob not be enough if the phone
only have 40MB total and he want to dl a 80MB file
i have alot of stuff installed and 80 megs free..... his other option would be to download on his computer and transfer.
i know they is a way to change the location of the "temporary internet files" but i don't know if this is the same.
Had this problem once myself. Don't know which rom you're using right now, but if you have wm5 wm6 or wm6.1 (the only ones I've tried it on), you can download the program Advanced configurations at, http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-advanced-configuration-tools-v2-0-2-0.html (use this version if you are running wm5 0r wm6 and don't have netframework 3.5 installed) OR http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-advanced-configuration-tool.html ( the newer version for wm5, wm6 and wm6.1 this version requires you to install net framework 3.5 on your device if you don't already have it. This is the one I currently use and love.) . Load the program and go to the Locations folder and just put "\storage card" for the default location of your internet explorer cache. I put storage card for all the default storage locations and internet explorer options (cache at least, cookies and history just to make a clean sweep of it as most people like having these things in one specific location to look at). I have no problems now as no temporary files are stored on the device itself hogging up it's somewhat limited space. Hope this helps.

Zip Mobile.... Help Please

Hello
I not sure if this is the right place to post this but...
Has anyone else found that Zip Mobile on Windows Mobile v6.1 is using storage space when unziping files and not returning the space once closed?
I have just noticed that there is now 10mb less storage left on my internal memory after unzipping a 58mb file on my memory card to my memory card (I have checked and the data was definatly unzipped to my memory card).
As i am using an Acer M900 storage memory starts at 128mb and any remaining memory is like gold-dust!
I can't understand why this would happen or how to reclame the lost internal storage memory...
Please can anyone help?
Many thanks

Sounds like your phone is creating a duplicate file in a folder to enable you to view a file within a zipped folder. You'll need to find the location of this folder which contains the duplicate file and delete it.

Storage isues

Hello,
I have a GoClever Aries 785 (M7841) Tab, and supposedly it is an 8 GB tab, since I can ot post any images because I am a new user this will be harder, I will try to transcript from the screenshots I have taken, here we go:
1. You see this when you press the "Storage" tab in settings:
Storage
Rom information
Internal Rom 8192 MB
System 7528 MB
User Available 664 MB
Okay so, What does all this mean? Am I missing something obvious here? Internal Rom as I understand is the total memory the device has? And System is how much is currently being used as a total? User available is self explanatory. I am not new to flashing Android Roms and such, but this is confusing me for some reason. Moving on to the next image and closer to the main question
2 In the same "Storage" tab I see a section called:
Flash storage
Total space: 5.06 GB
Available: 664 MB
(And on it goes with how much storage the apps, pics and so on occupy)
As I understand, this Flash Storage is an emulated internal SD card or something
3. Another section is:
Internal storage
Total space: 0.98GB
Available: 287MB
Apps (SYSTEM APPS IN FACT) and cached data takes about 500MB
So that adds up to what? 6 GBs? As I understand 3 GB is hidden and used by the Android system?
The point of all this is this leaves me with like a half a GB to download apps and install them because they all go to internal storage and not flash storage or SD card. WTF? I am constantly having issues of low storage and when I reach a certain limit Google Play does not even let download apps. I can have the Flash storage as empty as I want and an SD card as large as I want but because the internal storage has only 300 MB available I am not able to download apps. I can download apps if there is free internal storage and move them to flash storage from the app manager, but the system still leaves some data in the Internal storage and I do not think I can move them to an SD card, so since when I move an app to the Flash storage and it leaves some data in Internal, I come to a point when it is full again and there is nothing I can do about it. I cant select the default write disk to be Flash stage or SD, but I think it is only for the camera, voice recorder and etc. How do I work around this? Is there a way to reparation the storage so there would be more space of Internal storage? Or maybe some thing else I could do? I can not even have apps like Facebook or the Google Docs that I need, I have to constancy clean cache so I cant at least get like 20 MB more.
Device is rooted, I can access device internal storage with ES file explorer.
If you have gotten this far, I thank you for reading my novel, I have tried to explain everything as clear as I can and to include as much info as I can, some of it might have been useless. Sorry for a long post.
No one has the answer?
Hi !
If the device has been rooted then some improper storage readings may occur
Install DiskInfo from playstore for a better image of your storage
You can use but be careful with SdMaid from playstore as well
Basically , a 8GB Rom is the total storage your device has been built with which actually means 7629.39 mb in real
From this amount , 3 gb may be the system which you can`t fill it up with user`s apps or personal files , the rest of it is the user`s space storage from which 500 mb is the cache
In the end , without any personal files or user`s apps , the amount of available storage may be 4291.53 mb so , try to remove all the personal (media) files away (audio , video, downloads ...) and check how much free space you`ll get
Your system may be capable of moving user`s app to flash storage but this is limited to certain folders like data folder of the application , the obb won`t move out
A good application is Apps2Sd from playstore but again , be very careful and properly read the xda`s thread before doing anything
Good luck !
