I've spent the last two weeks searching the web for an adaptor that will allow me to use my wired GPS with a cradle that takes an serial GPS or Tom Tom compatible GPS cable connection (please see below link of the cradle I have).
I have an XDA II - and a GPS receiver that is hooked into a Cigar lighter charger by a connector that I really do not know what it is?
It is a round conncetor with a six pin configuration five outer pins and one in the centre, the connecor is only half a centimeter diameter.

Hi,
title says it all really... I damaged my cable. As I still have the Haicom receiver, I still want to use it.
I can't find this cable anywhere.
The cable in question is the in car charger cable for the XDA/XDA2 but also connects the GPS receiver to the XDA. The connection to the Haicom HI-203e is a PS/2 connector (same as older mouse or keyboard).
If anyone knows where I can get one of the in the UK i'd appreciate it if you could let me know where.....
XDA2 is a cool tool...

try:

or ebay sellers usually sell them for £20
Or if your capable with a soldering iron you can make yourself one

tried it...
Thanks Swifty.
Tried to do this but used a incar charger instead of the car kit.
Didn't work.
The HI-203e was getting power but not enough...
I think the resistor in the car charger must be bigger than the one in the proper cable...
And, I have also tried to find this cable on Ebay...
Impossible, if anyone does find one tho let me know.
I have scoured the Internet trying to find this cable with NO joy...

phone up GPS systems and ask......
Sno, you can always grab a universal incar ciggy adaptor from maplin or similar, they are only £7 then just set the dial to 5Volts (or whatever the 203 needs) then put the + and - cables onto the cable you made, obviously you will need a ciggy lighter splitter for your car, so that you can use your charge cable, and gps @ the same time. Or grab yourself a female lighter socket and cable it upto your battery..
..got it...
managed to find it @

Whilst looking on the web for somthing completely unrelated I came across this site -
http://www.seidio-europe.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BD-SMGF1XDAII
They do a mount for the XDA II which according to the site will be available on March 21st. A cut and paste of some of the info on the mount is below (it looks quite good as well) -
G2500 offers the following features:
It is model specific. You can simply slide your PDA into the mount without having to take the time to plug in the additional wires and cables.
It can securely hold and charge your PDA , while also improving the sound output making GPS voice commands and other digital sounds clearly and loudly through the integral speaker.
It is GPS ready meaning you can plug the GPS mouse (wired) receiver directly to the cradle for charging and connecting to PDA. No more messing around with tangled and expensive Y-cables. For blue tooth receiver users, It can charge the blue tooth receiver with the optional charging cable.
It can serve as a hands free speaker phone for cellular phone or PDA phone with optional hands free cable.
With a 360 degree swivel adaptor, maximum driver/passenger readability and viewing is always assured.
It can charge your blue tooth receiver, cellular phone, and additional PDA with optional charging cable.
DC power can be supplied either from the cigarette lighter socket or the unit can be hard wired directly into the car electrical system (12-24 V)
The mounting solutions: With the pedestals included, PDA users can mount their PDA in a variety of ways based on their personal preference or vehicle interior.
Seidio G2500 GPS Ready Powered mount kit includes:
1 Seidio G2500 GPS Ready Powered cradle with detachable DC power cord.
1 8" Super Strong Suction Windshield Pedestal
1 Slide and Lock Air Vent Pedestal
1 360 Degree Swivel Adaptor
1 Audio Cable (used to enable the speaker)
Hi
Ive got a emtac GPS bluetooth reciever and this comes with an in car charger. The charger lead splits into 2 with one side going into the emtac and the other should go into the XDA II
However the connecting lead is missing. So I need a lead that goes from the split into the bottom of the XDA II - I already have a XDA II power connector that goes into the bottom of the XDA so its just the lead to connect the 2?
I hope I have explained that????
Any help would be great
cheers

It would be very unusual for a bluetooth wireless gps to be supplied with a lead that links the pda with the gps, if you have the car charger for the gps and a car charger for the xda then all you need is a double adaptor for your lighter socket to take both chargers. If this doesnt answer your question then try here and look at all the different leads, if your gps uses a standard mini usb plug then you can use the Fortuna lead to power your pda and gps a the same time. If you are going to be using a cable that links both I wonder what the sense is in buying a wireless gps because it rather defeats the object.
hi
thanks for the response, i can see your point about connecting a BT device to a BT XDA with wires - sorta defeats the object!
However I suppose it is saving on chargers?
I already have a 4 way in car adaptor, but one is taken for charging my phone, one for my BT headset, one for the BT GPS reciever and the 4th can only be used for an actual cigarette lighter, meaning I am one short for my XDA
So if I can get the lead to connect the GPS power to the xda then im fully charged!
My car looks like spaghetti junction with all the wires!

Hi there,
I currently have a recently deceased ipaq 3630 with GPS cable, currently hardwired into my car (I just took the plastics off the plug, hard wired it to ground and ignition power and re-boxed it)
Anyways, I also have an Orange M1000 with 2 cradles, and I'm a cheap*ss mofo.... so what I'm basically planning on is:-
get pinouts for ipaq 3630
get pinouts for M1000 (I see they're in a post in this forum)
cut ipaq end off GPS cable and strip
cut usb end off M1000 cradle cable and strip
using multimeter buzz out the pin -> colour on each of the cables
wire together
glue (or duck tape or something) cradle into car
I'm working on the theory that the gps -> ipaq connection is going to have power and tx/rx which will be all I need for the gps, and that the M1000 cradle will have the same for activesync.
Anyone done this or similar, or does anyone think I'm just crazy?
Cheers
Doogie
Answering my own question because noone else did
The cradle I had was for USB not serial and I couldn't manage to get serial over USB option working in tomtom..... I opened the cradle (T6 driver), split the cable to leave the power going where it was but split out the 2 usb cables and I buzzed out some points on the board where there was connectivity to the 8 & 10 pins... little bit of soldering and reassembly and I now have a serial cradle with power that connects to my GPS..... now just need to make it look purty in my car
Hi,
I have garmin etrex gps with car charger/serial cable combo.
Which cable(s) to use to connect xda2 to the car plug (12V) and to this serial connector that is at etrex cable.
Where to buy the required cable?
Tomi
Ebay had lots... but I'm a student, and therfor too cheep to pay 15 to 20 pounds for a wire i can make from scrap cables i already had lying arround.
its not too hard to build your own!
HOWEVER. when i built my own, i then found that the GPS wasn't really accurate enough in my car to work with tomtom.
It keeps jumping between my street and any street that runs parralel with it.
After a lot of swaring, and playing with different settings i have decided to stump up the cash and get a Holux GR 236 GPSlim, from what i read it seems like an awsome bit of kit.
If you want help on building your own cable i can provide you with some links and info.
hope that helps.
