XDA Orbit (Altered HTC Artemis) & MDA Vario II (HTC Hermes) compete for my affections
My contract with O2 has expired, and now these two beauties compete for my attention. The price is the same (on a £35 p/m contract), and I have little preference as to which company I go with.
I don't need GPS, since I can't drive, and my handwriting is awful so a keyboard seems like a good idea.
On the other hand, the XDA Orbit is much smaller, and more phone like.
So, the features kind of even out. I guess it has to come down to those hard to measure things like 'responsiveness', 'battery life', and most importantly of all, how well polished the product is - I have some concerns about glitches and bugs with the Vario II.
So I put it to you XDA-Developers - which should I go for. Please post your experiences, good or bad, or both phones.

XDA IQ coming May 9th

The XDA IQ will be available internally on the 2nd, and publically on the 9th of May.
Havnt got a source, sorry, but I heard in good faith.
Finally, been waiting for o2 uk to release this phone for ages..
i have an xda atom (for about a month) which i'm thinking about selling and getting an xda iq instead... - anyone seen side by side photo comparisons of the two units? or maybe an tornado next to a prophet?
the atom is nice but i think i'd prefer going back to a normal phone form factor (so long as it isnt too big) and save myself about £100 in the process.
check this out: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5105.html
Has photos of Xda Neo, IQ, Exec and HTC Star Trek.

Xda Argon...w*f?!

Hey ppl check it out the xda argon
http://businessshop.o2.co.uk/phone_detail.aspx?id=94&groupid=4
NOOOOO xda flame what is the matter with o2? anyone no how i can get a hold of the flame? cos it looks like o2 not gonna release it in the uk or europe!
thanks
S1MB4D
that argon looks like little more then an alpine with wm5 and a better cam
odd choice for this day and age
It's a renamed Trion, which is a rebadged Hermes
so i guess o2 gonna be jerks and not release flame here?
Looks a lot like this to me
The picture of the XDA Argon looks a lot like this HTC P6300 (Panda) to me, what does anyone else think? http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=735
yeh, i think on website called coolsmartphones they had speculated it would be the panda.
NOT a rebadged Trion, which is being (has been) released separately
is there not something about htc not letting companys like o2 rebadged devices anymore ?
was that not why o2 and tmobile starting getting other suppliers for devices they wanted to be named o2 and tmobile
and why imate was left out in the cold by htc ?
advice plz!!!
hey guys a bit of advice
you lot think i should bother to upgrade with o2 with the orbit or should i go sell the upgrade and then buy the flame?

yep..now the argon users will complain for WM6
But, IMHO, I would really love get this device. You atleast need 3.5" screen to do something useful. It just does not make any sense working on a 2.8" device. Does it?
That is a joke, it looks like they are relying on sentimental reasons to invoke XDA2 users to buy this. With the O2 Flame being launched next week, why would anyone buy this?
There are plenty of online shops who are already taking orders for the Flame - use Australian sites if you are seeking extra security. Retail price online is about 500 quid.
Hi, a lot of conflicting stuff on the Argon so let me set the record straight. It's an HTC Panda badged for O2. It runs on WM5 althought O2 will be rolling out with WM6 in the near future. CPU is 400Mhz Samsung 2442. O2 have a large client base in the UK using the XdaIIi form factor and there has been high demand for continuity since HTC pulled the plug on the XdaIIi. I manage over 800 XdaIIi's and the Argon is key to our future growth until something better with a 3.5" screen comes along.
main thing that o2 are going back to the xda2 style is that also of businesses use the xda2 for tracking things eg taxi`s, dhl etc all have carkits or cradles for them.this is a stroke of genius from o2,wait till you guys see wot o2 have in the next xda pipeline i cant wait...

O2 XDA Stellar release in Germany?

Hi @ll..
yesterday is was in an O2 Store and there was an information, that the XDA Orbit 2 (it´s a HTC Touch Cruise i think), will be released by O2 on 2nd December.
At home i found on the internet, that O2 will also release an "XDA Stellar", but no information about when it will come in Germany?
I was astounded about that PDA!! And now I think it will necessarily have it!! THATs SO COOL!!
but i don´t know, what Accessories the O2 Device will bring with it.
Also i could buy the original HTC Tytn II (is that the Kaiser?), but i think the o2 will be cheaper with more Accessories..
Someone has more information about it??
thanxx 2 @ll
[NEWS]
I phoned with the customer support of o2..
now it seems, that the XDA Stella(r) will not come in Germay
Instead of this one, the XDA Orbit 2 will come out (aka HTC Touche Cruise)
with carholder, Tom Tom, etc..
And no i decided to buy an original HTC TyTN II
me, as one of O2 owner, will not buy any O2 product anymore,.
It is expensive, and bad in customer service,.
In atom forum, most people agree of not going to buy any O2 device,.
It is better to use a HTC device, so many useful apps, WM6 upgrade is prepared by the Official, and espesially good in customer service,.
look at the ATOM forum, me, they, and any others members, havent solve the problem for WM6 ROM, (so we dont have a perfect WM6 ROM yet)
but look at HTC device, any non-perfect ROM?? nope,.
that because they have an official WM6 ROM,.
@ Garmin
you are right..
so i decided to buy the one from HTC.
But i never had problems the support of o2 (germany). this was great!
And the thing, why i wanted the one from o2, are the accessories like full TomTom, things for the car and the second pen..
My hopes dashed
Just got my hopes up that the Stellar was going to answer my prayers but now discovered that it only has a 2.8" screen.
I've had an XDA IIi for almost three years now. About every six months I have a search for any worthwhile upgrades and keep being surprised that HTC haven't brought anything out. All I want is an XDA IIi (or equivalent with a 3.5" screen as I use it for lots of surfing) with fast web browsing (3G). GPS would be nice. A decent camera would be nice but I'm not that fussed.
The XDA Exec looked good but was just too heavy (and based on some friends' experiences quite buggy and unreliable).
The XDA Trion got my hopes up but only had the 2.8" screen.
Is it just me? I just can't believe it. I have other few friends clutching onto other XDAs as well because they don't want to downgrade to something else.
Maybe the Samsung F700 will do it...

What is a fair price in the UK for a second-hand xda?

O2 UK to get Touch HD2 (AKA Leo) in October

Just spoke to an O2 rep and they said a new phone had just it their system called an HTC HD2 which was due for release towards the end of October.
I was surprised as they have never sold an HTC branded phone before. Also, O2 and their release dates are often way off, I remember phones being pushed months and months based on their original release dates.
Exciting news none the less.
Would be better to post your coment on the same Leo thread insted of creating the 6th thread regarding Leo!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4597999&postcount=165
There is no official Leo thread. Just one stating that it is the first decent phone by HTC in a long time. I did not want to go off topic on that thread as I was not making any comment on how good that phone was.
Perhaps as a Mod you could spend less time picking on long term users and more time creating a Leo section on the site?!?
If this is true it's fantastic news. I was angry they didn't have the TP2 available, only iPhones as an upgrade, but the Leo looks like it will piss all over the TP2.
I'll not have to upgrade to an iPhone, sell it at a reduced rate, and put the money towards the Leo now.
I recently left O2 as there was no TP2 or equivalent. I am absolutely loving my TP2 and (1) I really use the keyboard and so maybe want the phone after the LEO, and (2) its anyone's guess when they will actually release it (o2 that is).
Also, my 18 month contract for my TP2 will finish in february 2011, and so the market should be flush with new WM7 native phones.
So I am not feeling bad about not waiting.

Did exactly the same as you my friend. Left O2 as no TP2. Moved to Orange on an 18 month. Mine finishes March 2011. So as you, Ill get myself a Touch Pro 3 with WM7. I like my keyboard to much to switch to a HD or Diamond.
If you're stuck in a contract you could always sell your existing handset and use the money you raise to buy a new one SIM-free, then continue to use the new phone with your contract SIM.
I prefer to use the network phone insurance as I have young kids who are very adept and getting my phone when I am not looking.
I just find it easier to call up and get a replacement if something happens to it.
Can't really do that if the network has never sold the model of phone I am using.
Looks like we'll be able to get the Leo for free from o2 on a £44 18 month contract according to engadget.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/25/htc-leo-looking-confirmed-for-o2-uk-debut-will-be-free-on-the-r/
O2 normally rebadge their HTC phones as XDA phones like this one - XDA Guide (aka HTC Touch Cruise 09). A bit of a waste of time and money I am sure. Now that HTC is a pretty main stream brand they are maybe going to just sell them as HTC devices. Here is some more proof by the way, not sure if anyone has posted this but several blogs are showing pics of the latest O2 in store catalogue with a page for the HTC HD2: http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/30/htc-hd2-makes-first-official-appearance-in-o2-uk-catalog/
Its also coming on T-Mobile and Vodafone according to mobile phones direct :
