Which WM5 device has an internal Storage Card like the BA - General Topics

Hello,
Which of the new HTC devices with WM 5 as an integerated Storage Card like the Blue Angel has one??
I've seen that the Wizard hasn't got one.
We need this to persist some data like cab-files or databases on the device even if a hard reset is performed and we cannot put them into the Extended_Rom due to size limitations of the rom and due to limited access.
Thanks in advance
Markus

Hello Markus.Fritz.
To the best of my knowledge, no HTC device with WM5 has built in storage.
In fact as far as I know only Asus 636 has it of all the WM5 devices.
Here is the reason:
Before WM5 RAM was used for storage and running programs. To protect some data from deletion when battery runs out a lot of devices came with extra flash which was the built in storage.
On WM5 device RAM is only used for running programs and storage memory is flash any way so most manufacturers don't partition it for separate storage.
I am afraid EXT_ROM (which is built in storage only hidden) is your best option. On Jamin/QTEK s200/Prophet it can be hidden/unhidden (with full access) by a simple registry tweak. It's 10MB.

I think he's referring to a storage card port such as the SD Port on the BA.

Sounds to me like the post is about "File store", but Biohead may be right.
In that case, any phone has an SD or mini SD slot.
Jamin which I mentioned earlier has full SD.

No I'm not looking for a SD Card slot.
I'm looking for something similar to the Storage Folder at the Blue Angel

Is there any way to re-partition the device?

To my knowledge, only by using custom ROM.

Increase Storage space for WM2005

How can we I the storage space of WM2005 From 14.54MB to around 32MB?
I kept on running out of disk space. After installing all my programs, I end up with just 3.53MB. Most if not all of my programs are even installed in the flashdisk.
I would appreciate any help any one of you can give me on this matter. Thanks!
This is the exact problem I am having too. I tried installing memmaid but there was nothing to remove from the memory and the storage > memory slider will not move. I tried unlocking the extended memory but the programs would not run (nothing at all happens) and I tried using doc tool but it doesn't seem to have done anything. On my XDA2 I have the 64/64 version of wm5 installed and have 56mb spare. I have 3 out of 14mb spare on the storage disk and cant find anything to remove. I have a 2gb SD card in the unit.
Can someone help please?
Thanks
I tried the same version 64/64 until earlier this afternoon. I downgraded to 32/96 so that I may have a larger storage space. but alas! Nothing happened.
You can use "HIMA doc tools" to delete almost all ext ROM and join it with storage thus having 30MB of storage.
HOVEWER! DON'T instal anything in this storage!
Storage in MDA2 is slow, and in WM5 is regularly compacted via proces filesys.sys (or sth like this). When you are filling storage, compacting it will take longer and longer and Himalaya works slower and slower...
In short: install everything on RAMDisc provided in the newest ROMs
If you want easy way, install ROM from this thread, it's the newest ROM available:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,23348/catid,26/
or this one (older but proven to be quite stable)
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,19690/catid,26/
If you like tweaking, take a look at ROM kitchen:

Marx2,
How do we do that? Sorry I donno a thing about reprograming. I will appreaciate it though if you could guide me. Thanks!
I was able to unlock and erase some parts of the extended ROM. However, I do not know how to merge the space that I freed and the current storage space that I have. Any suggestions?

Hi!
I've read this «ALL-IN-ONE Guide» by toomuchdogfur
(here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273911&highlight=upgrading+magician).
Is important the Active-sync version for the rom upgrade?
I use 4.2.0 build 4876: I need to use another version?
I need to turn off Antivirus and firewall?
The sim card can be plugged in?
The guide tells «sd card 128mb preferred»: someone try to do the upgrade using bigger card?
Thanks!
w_s
The ActiveSync version doesn't matter, namely because ActiveSync isn't used in the upgrade.
You shouldn't need to turn off your antivirus or firewall as the upgrade doesn't use any applications that need to access the internet or any protected system resources.
The SIM card can be left in or taken out - the upgrade process doesn't touch it.
The recommended SD size is 128MB as ROMs are typically 64MB, though I like to keep the extra storage space there as a safeguard. However the larger the card, the longer the process will take as your Magician will, during backup, attempt to fill the entire SD card regardless of how big the actual ROM is. Also this will give you a bloated file size if you decide to copy your ROM to your computer (eg. If you backed up your ROM on a 256MB card, then it will be 256MB in size if you copy it to your computer). Having said that, you should be fine with SD cards up to 1GB as long as you don't mind the extra time and space required.
i foiund it was strange. i can't upgrade the rom in vista which had installed the mobile center.and i works very well when i copy files pc to ppc.but it still can't upgrade the rom.so i change to xp.Then setup the ActiveSync.at last i can upgrade the rom.. hehe to find a friend to train my poor english.my e-mail:[email protected] thanks
I will found a 128mb sd card for the occasion!
Thank you very much for your guide and your help,

Cooked Version without Flashdisk or Storage

Hi!
Is there any cooked version without Flash Disk or Storage so that the major memory can be made available for programs. What I understand that major memory area for Programs can help a lot.
Anybody can guide on this or can help on how to cook a ROM without a Flash Disk / Storage area.
Regards,
Haque
It's already been done.
Try Cotulla ROM.
And please read the first post by Cotulla VERY carefully.

Hi, It's for a G3 device whereas I have O2 Xda Exec G4 device. I'll appreciate if anybody can guide me on to what can be deleted from an available kitchen like Tomal's or any other's to achieve a bare minimum state to run the mobile without the Flashdisk or Storage area.
Looking forward to be helped on this.

Just to qualify that you don't loose any of your program memory to storage or flash disk. i.e., if you get a ROM without storage/flashdisk, you won't have more program memory. The most you can expect on 64MB device is around 30MB free program. By getting vanilla version, this would only increase available space on flash disk (if you have one) - which is determined by the ROM builder. The xtra storage space is also only available as just that.
Best that I can see is luca16thebig's 1.4.5 vanilla with 33.28MB free program memory.

Thanx! But the problem with the Luca16thebig's 1.4.5 vanilla is that upon closing the programs it actually does not close the programs and these are visible in Task Manager. I have to manually close the programs from Task Manager. Second, the flash disk size is 22MB approximately, whereas I wanted a version without Flash Disk or Storage and the free available memory should be available for Programs or a portion of that for the Storage. See if you or anybody can guide me on this.

WM6 will minimise programs by default. Install WkTask. This is what is used in other ROMs to close programs and give the functionality you are looking for.

As I said this is incorrect. The 'free memory' will not be available for Programs. If you don't have a Flash Disk or Storage, that memory is simply then not used and not available. Both the Flash Disk and Storage make use of memory that you cannot normally access.

Hi!, I flashed my O2 XDA EXEC with the WM5 shipped ROM and then upgraded to WM6 Shipped version. I got a Storage area with around 10-12MB space. Upon flashing it to Tomal's WM61, my O2 Xda Exec start showing Flash Disk along with the Storage area. Thus I had around 22MB storage area in the phone apart from the main storage and Program Memory. I don't know if some of this space can be freed to make more room for Memory than the mere storage space. I have gone through the post you pointed out and I had a feeling that the freed space can only be utilized for the storage area and not for the Program Memory.
I am planning to get me O2 Xda Exec's RAM upgraded and hope that will resolve the memory issue.

you're right, it cannot be used as program memory but as mere storage, at least for now. upgrading your ram will do the trick... . regards

Hi! I was lucky to get hold of a friend, who actually runs a mobile repair workshop, to upgrade the RAM of my O2 Xda Exec by harvesting the RAM from Blue Angel. Now my mobile is with 128MB RAM. The process was hardly a 30 minutes job - removing the two 64MB Memory chips from Blue Angel and replacing the 32MB Memory chips on O2 Xda Exec and then shorting the pins as stated in Uni Memory Upgrade article.
I just wanted to know how much of the storage can be freed from the cooked vanilla or regular version and how?

Rom Installation location

Im fairly certain that the default rom files for Sense 3.0 are stored on the phones internal storage but where do external and aftermarket roms get installed, it would seem to be that its installing on the sd cards am i wrong ?? if so what kind of performance differences would there be compared to it being on the onboard memory and is there anyway to install it directly to the onboard itself.
Aftermarket is stored on internal. Where did you get idea it was stored somewhere else?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Yea i just removed sd card and clicked haha, just was interested as my internal stated it wasn't being used.. Is the 1gb not allocated to the OS files is the OS storage seperate etc ??
OS has its own partition, apps have their own 1.1GB partition
