Does XDA EXEC has warranty? - General Topics

Hi, I live in the US, and I bought a XDA EXEC from england less than a month. However, this device is just too fragile, the screen has crack, and the battery charging port broke, too. I wonder if I can claim another phone or not? Please assist me if anybody knows what to do. I will be appretiate!

If you send it back to England, then yes, they will cover it if you can prove the damage was caused by normal use, but it will be your responsibility to pay return shipping.
You must be subjecting it to some serious abuse to have that amount of damage though, so I am unsure they will cover it. I know 5 people with these, and apart from some scuff marks, I don't see how you can crack it, or break sockets unless you drop it onto hard surfaces, and don't take care when plugging things in.

yes, about the touch screen...it crack by itself, I also don't know why? I just put it in my pocket, when I take it out, it has a long crack across the screen. Is it because my pocket is too tight? About the charging port, yes, when I was charging my EXEC, my dogs run through the wires and hook it, so the device drom to the floor, about 40cm height. Eventhough there is carpet on the floor, the charging port still broke...
In my case, do you think that I am still able to claim warranty?
Thanks for your reply

yer sounds like your pocket was too taut(ditch the leather chaps lol),
well you have to treat them as you wud a laptop not as you wud a cheap nokia
warranty well thats covers there faults,so youd be hard pressed to claim imo on those damages
maybe take out an insurance then claim?
or your home insurerance
either way its a pain in the ass mate,if it was me id post it to a mate and insured
use a pic with no damage for prior sending then get your pal to post it back insured and you claim the damage was done in transit maybe

hmm...claim for insurance..? That is a good idea...but I don't think that I can buy any insurance here....Thanks for your advice anyway

i meant as you have no insurance cover on the device try using postal insurance,
mail it somewere and claim the damage was done in transit, claiming on postal insurance

hahaha, you are just so great and smart!!!! How smart is the idea! I will try!

worked for me mate
post it from your work to your home, with insurance
get a pic of a similar phone on superb condtion and then a pic of your broken one upon arrival
claim it was done dsuring transit and claim
say it was left at work or a mates house and hence they had to post it to you.
i have a uk tmob exec in silver,if thats the same colour as yours id happlit take and email pics for a before posting picture

[Q] Replacement Glass

So my transformer took a fall of a little less than two feet and now has a nice crack running across it. It's still useable and even looks normal at certain angles but I'm determined to replace it.
I'd be happy to have Asus do it if it's not too expensive, but they refuse to talk price over the phone or to give you any kind of contact information for their repair centers. If there is anyone who has had their glass replaced by Asus before please tell me: how much does it cost?
Doing it myself would be fine, but I can't find the glass anywhere. I've tried Asus (dead end), Ebay (nothing yet that I could find) and the web in general. Does anyone know where to find replacement gorilla glass for the tf101?
don't break any further or it will transform and kill you
usually repairs for those kind of products run about $150+, which i believe is too expensive.
Thanks for that, and yeah, that does sound too expensive. I think that money would be better spent on a tegra 3 transformer this winter
So now I just need to find someone who will sell replacement glass. Any ideas? Anyone here who has replaced gorilla glass before on another device - who did you buy it from?
Did you ever find replacement glass? Mine just took a tumble last night
SquareTrade is having mine repaired by a company called Professional Satellite Repair in Phillipsburg PA. I have no idea what they're charging, but their phone number is (877) 777-3491. Hope that helps. - sheureka
That does, I'll give them a call and if its reasonable, Ill send it out. Did SquareTrade say anything about charging you?
Any luck with this? These things are more disposable than tampons.. wtf is the tech industry becoming?
I am in direct contact with a local repair guy that just got a hold of a supplier for the capacitive glass for the transformer. Be patient. I'll post any further info when I have it.
I actually have access to the replacement digitizers problem is there making me purchase in bulk. From what info I've gathered these are DIRECT OEM ASUS front panels. I'm not sure how long the wait is if people are interested let me know and ill get actual pricing i'm not always on the board but you can email me at [email protected] for quicker response.
edit 1: I did gather the earliest they would ship is Feb 5th due to the Chinese holidays. They would price around $88 shipped I would need a minimum of 5 orders for that price. I personally need 1 so we would only need 4 more people. Just a thought guys if this is in the wrong section please let me know just trying to help.

Try talking to the following person. He just got a shipment.
[email protected]
I cant contact him using that email i even tried seller search. can you get me more info on his pricing and such
If this replacement digitizer/glass is 100% the same as the original equipment (eg 10 point touch and also gorilla glass), then I'm in for $88. Let me know how to join in the group buy.
His ebay username is gunzz11.
He gave me a deal, but I promised him I wouldn't say. I no longer want to do this. If you want a replacement glass, you talk to him.

Why so apprehensive? Is there a reason we should possibly avoid said seller? Was just curious why you can't say what you payed?

LCD is easy to find. Its the capacitive glass that people have a hard time finding.
I don't understand why you guys insist on wanting to know how much he offered me. Just email him and find out.
So my TF101 got a crack. I believe it was from docking it but ASUS has denied my warranty claim (surprise). I was gonna take it out back and torch the thing then go buy an iPad but I think I may want to try and fix it myelf. Problem is now I don't know if I need the LCD or the digitizer. The crack on my screen is under the glass, does that eman I need the digitizer?

Dude, I'm a mechanical engineer. I can tear apart and put back together almost anything with some guidance. Do I know the difference between the two? No. Can I do the repair, I guarantee I can. Just looking for HELP. Thanks for yours so far, appreciate it really.

Ok, don't say I didn't warn you so.
The TF display has 2 layers, the upper gorilla glass and the lower display panel. The LCD is the lower display panel. The upper gorilla glass is the digitizer... well the capacitive sensor grid is attached to the glass.
The LCD is easy to find for about $50. It's the digitizer (the upper layer, the part that you touch, the touch screen) that people have trouble finding.
Now, here's the kicker. The digitizer glass is held to the rest of the device via very strong adhesives. I suggest using either a hot gun or a hair dryer to heat up the adhesives before removing.
Here is what I would suggest you do to get to this point.
(1) Remove the 2 screws in the bottom near the charging port.
(2) Remove the Bezel. Please let me know if you don't know how to do this safely. If you don't do this right, there's a chance you could permanently screw up the casing.
(3) Remove the necessary crews on the outer perimeter of the TF to remove the back.
(4) Unhook the ribbon wire that connects the digitizer to the motherboard. Should be on the left side if you're looking at the back.
(5) While the glass is facing you, heat up the perimeter of the glass and very carefully remove the glass.
(6) Apply the new glass digitizer.
(7) Don't forget to hook up the ribbon wire connecting the digitizer to the motherboard. Haha, I can already imagine your face (all red) when you put everything back together and then not have a working touchscreen
(8) Write me a check for $2,000.
This is just an outline. If you have further questions for specifics or want some pictures of the parts, please let me know. I know the TF anatomy inside out like the back of my hand.
Added by edit.
Do not skip any step, especially the very last step. Failing to follow all the steps will result in your in-laws camping out at your place for a month.

slippery grip -> cracked screen

Pretty sure most of you can tell where I am heading with this thread based on the title. I personally find the One S has a rather thin and slippery grip on the side, and I am wondering if the fellow One S owners share similar sentiments.
I had the phone for about 2.5 weeks or so, and was totally loving it, except the fact that I always had a hard time getting a good grip with the phone in my hand. One day, I accidentally dropped the phone, from maybe not more than 3ft high. And unfortunately the screen completely cracked. I was extremely upset, partially at myself for not using a screen protector, but more so at HTC.
Phone is not covered by T-mobile's warranty (no insurance), HTC could not even give me a quote for repair due to the phone was just released. So now I have arguably the latest and best android phone in the market collecting dust at home.
Sorry to hear, dude - was this the grey version?
I don't think a screen protector would have helped you as they're more to protect from scratches, not impact.
Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, you may have insurance without even knowing it.
Dude thats so bad
I new i would break my phone if i didnt get a case... after a few minutes it was slipping out of my hand...
The design is awesome, but they should have implemented so rubber grips down the sides or something..
Anyway, if you do get it fixed...... GET A CASE !! its the best thing i ever bought
Check the House Insurance (if you have it) you may be covered....mine is!
Edit:
Ebay are selling the screens
I know Discover cards have a insurance clause on some of their stuff so you should check that out like the other guy said . . but yea it's slipped out of my hands onto my jeans countless times because of the lack of grip lol .. that's why i bought a case first thing ..and as for screen protectors i've cracked 3 phones with them on (one with a case on as well) so they don't really help from drops and places should tell you that when you buy it too
Can u post a pic of the damage

My wife just dropped her One S.... Screen cracked but I'm within the 14 day insurance purchase from T-Mobile. Just got off the phone and within a few weeks we'll warranty the phone. Looking at about 100-120 after all it's a said and done. Needless to say we're lucky on this one.

I dropped my iphone4 a countless of times on concrete and the glass never shattered. I dropped my 1S a couple of times already on ceramic tiles and still nothing except that MAO paint problem.
I think cases are butt ugly and a waste of money. I wouldn't even go for the 1S if I was going to use a case. Seriously put a 1S in a case and what does it have over the SGS3 or the 1X?
Anyway just my opinion
i actually dont believe in phone case either becuz i think they make the phone look ugly and bulky, thus ive never bought phone cases.
however, due to this phone being so thin and slippery, I felt like a grippy phone case is a must have. after surfing around the web for a little while, i found diztronic matte back phone case. Just got the case today and i love it!
high quality case, its made of TPU so it has a good amount of grip. All the holes are cut out perfectly (it doesnt cover any speaker/mic/sensor opening). The case is also thin so it doesnt make my phone bulky (sure it makes ur phone look a little thicker, but it's not a bad compromise at all). And last but not least, i really dig the look of the case, very well designed in my opinion. It also come with a screen protector in case anyone needs one.
And this is exactly why I'm putting a case on my phone for the first time ever. Sorry to hear about your phone mate.

I've checked online and seen it listed but can I just verify that this phone has Gorilla Glass 1/2? Obviously, that doesn't make it crack proof but I work construction and end up putting my phones through their paces and found that my Milestone (Gorilla Glass) held up a fair bit better than my Desire Z (no Gorilla Glass).
And yes, in my situation a case (And insurance) is a necessity on a three year contract.
I've had the phone for all of 5 days. it fell from my hand as I put something down on a rock, litterally no drop whatsoever, but it slid a whopping 6 inches down the rock on it's face and the screen cracked and scratched. if it is supposed to have gorilla glass, I was gypped. I have no renters insurance and didn't buy it with a credit card, but I do have a plan.
-get the insurance from t-mobile, as I'm withing the 14 days
-enjoy not caring about the phone for the next 6 months
-pay the 130 for a replacement through asurion
-sell new phone for 400+ (if the release of the S3 doesn't drop the market value too much)
-buy Galaxy S3

oh, just to rub salt in the wound, when I got home, today, after cracking the screen, my dritztronic case, with screen protector, was in my mailbox... mocking me...
Get one of these TPU cases, very minimal and offers a good grip, easy to take on and off and has a ever so slightly raised edge around the front so even if you drop it face first the screen won't impact any surfaces. I got the clear one with the curved sand blasted part. I think I paid like $9 shipped and it came within a week.
Thanks
Thanks everyone for all the sympathetic and constructive replies. Unfortunately the phone is just right over the 14day US T-mobile insurance, and my credit card does not provide any.
I never believed in cases either, always thought it kills the design of the phone, but after this incident, I may think differently. Such a shame though, it's a such a slick looking phone WITHOUT the case. I am considering writing a complaint email to HTC, not sure if it will do any good, but worth a shot.
I had also checked screen replacement online, but they are still in the $150-$200 range.

I doubt HTC is going to help you. You dropped it, and therefore are responsible. Yeah, it SUCKS.
Also, I'm surprised that this screen is Gorilla Glass, based on these reports of cracking. What's the point of Gorilla Glass if it breaks just as easy? I know it's scratchproof, but it's also supposed to be much more resistant to breaks.

LOL at the plan BUT what i've learned through all the warranty exchanges i did with my G2x is just call tmobile tell them the phones fine (physically) make up something so they send u out a new one and when they find out its cracked or water damaged or whatever they charge you $74.03 which is almost half of asurion or w.e the company is .. i cracked the F outta my g2x told them it was overheating and they sent me a new one called me in a couple days saying my screens cracked and they're charging me $74.03 just if you wanted my sources it's legit

It's what they SHOULD be doing..seriously. But to explain the process:
Call tmobile
Ask for technical support
Tell them "i don't know what's wrong with my phone, the touch screen isn't working on certain parts and it keeps freezing and calling people on its own" or make up any other non physical issue you can think of.
They'll make you trouble shoot the phone and just play dumb and stick to your "my phone isn't working" excuse
Then the technical support person will tell you "okay, we're going to send you a phone exchange and you just send back the one with issues" they'll ask you if the phone has any PHYSICAL or WATER damage... SAY NO. They'll tell you if they find any damage they will charge you ___ which as the previous poster stated is A LOT cheaper charge than anything the insurance or htc or anyone else will bill you for. You might have to pay for the shipping of the new exchange and that's it.
(and if you end up getting nervous about this and chicken out when the new phone gets to you... just send the same phone back... tmobile sends you a little white box and inside that white box is the shell of the "new" phone with a pre labeled mailing slip and a little sticker to seal the box up again...no big deal)
Make sense?

What exactly, is broken on my phone?

Last night my S3 fell face first cracking the screen. Well the thing is, what exactly is cracked? Glass, LCD, or (most likely not) Digitizer? The phone works and the only damage would be a screen with cracks Lol. I would take it through insurance (best buys) but at the moment me and the account holder (brother in law) aren't on speaking terms, I'm sure I need him to replace my phone, even though I do still have the receipt and such.
Please help, and thank you.
Edit: I'm also rooted and have a custom ROM. My USB cable went out on me, so I can't Odin to stock anyways.
Note: yes this is a screenshot, the picture was uploaded to Facebook from my iPod, and screenshoted by my s3.

If the screen lights up with no dead spots or stuck pixels and the touch still works, I would say just the glass.

I believe the digitizer & glass are replaced as a unit. You can replace just the glass if you'd like to try it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708
But sometimes it just pays to replace the Assembly, and pay the extra bucks
If you search, I'm sure there are reputable places that will supply & install the set up for about $100?
Maybe a lot more? I don't know what the actual prices are for the S3 assembly.
An estimate I received from a local shop when I had my S2 on Sprint awhile ago was $85.
I mention the above cost way because it appears you can't have your BinLaw do it at this time, for whatever the Best Buy cost would be, if any.
When I received my estimate, there were 2 types of connectors used, so the dealer had to be sure he had the correct one in stock.
I believe I ended up going through Asurion at the time.
I just did a quick search and found this:
http://www.emicronsolutions.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-blue-lcd-digitizer-assembly.html
Yikes!!
You may want to have a temporary truce, and speak with your BinLaw
I would take it to Best Buy, cause they will probably just give you a Brand new phone(well usually they do) and i think the LCD is fine, just the glass is cracked
You can buy just the glass and replace just that. Need a heat gun or hair dryer and an exacto knife. The only thing is be careful with the heat because u can lose color on the LCD if you fry one spot too long. There are videos online. It took me a little over 30 Min to replace. The glass costed $20 and the gun was 25.. Cheaper than insurance replacement. And if u bought the 2 together that's almost 200.
Sent from my MIUI powered S3 thanks to StrumerJohn
Hi, I do phone repairs for a living.
The digitizer is part of the glass. The display panel (which is not an LCD, but an AMOLED) is a separate piece. They come from the factory as one entire assembly though.
The assembly is very expensive as there are no aftermarket alternatives available.
There is a thread here on xda and also one of my local competitors does glass-only replacements. However, I don't think this is a very good idea. I've personally done touchscreen replacements on more than 10 S3s and while I've never tried to replace just the glass, it seems more difficult, time consuming, and higher risk. It's much easier and faster to just replace the whole unit and doing it this way results in higher quality workmanship with greater consistency.
If insurance is not an option, expect to pay $250 or higher if you replace the entire touchscreen, whether you do it yourself or pay someone else too.
There are benefits to paying someone: it's much quicker than waiting for a box in the mail (I can do it in about 20 mins), a shop may warranty the display (even if for a short time), and we won't give a **** if you've rooted your phone.
But i believe the Bestbuy insurance he has doesn't require a deductible so it wouldnt cost him anything to replace, i could be wrong though

T-mobile insurance, broken back glass

Hello, everyone..
I took my t-mobile Sony Z3 out this weekend.. Got back home, back glass was broken..
I call t-mobile looking to use my insurance to have it replace but was told it will cost me $150 deductible..
Is this right..I thought the deductible was only for a lost phone or broken front display?
Any help will be greatly appreciated it..thank you
Sent from my D6616 using XDA Free mobile app
nah, that's it - deductible is required for any user-responsible damage. Looks like you'll have to shell out for this one. Sorry mate.
T-Mobile quoted my deductible as $175. That said, I did not get the insurance.
Try taking the phone to the Sony store.
I purchased a glass rear on ebay for £8.15 which arrived today brand new. There are videos online showing how to remove the back housing, which comprises about twenty seconds with a heatgun and a suction cup to prise it off. Mine isn't actually broken but I wanted a backup panel just in case. Might be easier and cheaper than you think.....
Do you have the website for the back glass?
The youtube video is called "Sony xperia Z3 Disassembly" by "nkn sam."
The glass was purchased via an ebay seller called "completefone" but there are quite a few on ebay, mostly in Hong Kong though, and the ones I've seen are general without any T-mobile insignias, which may or may not be an issue.
Hey Sony Z3 family
This is a update, just in case its help anyone
Just for the record I am not a expert, I am not a certified Sony tech or I am not even saying, I have personally done it..Disclaimer for insurance purposes of course.. Lol ? This is just information I found out..
But if I had to do it, this is what I might have done
If you go on ebay they sell the back glass for less than $20..
You will definitely need a heat gun, they have one on amazon with 700 positive reviews for less than $20
Also get one of those iPhone kit to remove the backplate it's like $15 on amazon comes with a bunch of fiberglass plastic flat tools to help remove things
Also be aware when you remove the cover, what the videos don't tell you is that you need to save your nfc patch, looks like a black wiring ring.. You need to attach that to your new cover and also there are two flat black cables that I think should go back on..
Also clean your camera with a q-tip and after you put everything back together.. You might need to hard reset your phone to factory settings, to get the camera to work properly, specifically auto focus..
But if you are willing to void your warranty, probably your phone won't be water proof unless you reseal it.. Which I don't know how, if anyone does please let me know..also take a chance on breaking it..
But the good news, with GOD's help, patients and if it all work out..
You will have save a $150 insurance deductible or $600 price of a new phone.. I think it also $150 insurance deductible if you lose or have you phone stolen ..
And have your phone back too it's sexy self again.. It's looks really ugly with the back smash..
Just my humble opinion
Sent from my D6616 using XDA Free mobile app
Sent from my D6616 using XDA Free mobile app
I forgot to mention get a suction cup there is a orange or red handle one on amazon about $6 works great on a flat surface but not too great on the broken glass.. No big deal because with the heat gun and plastic pry tools, you will get the cover off.. It's take time and patience.. Do not apply to much heat, you are not cooking the phone lol just trying to heat the glue behind it..
The suction cup should come in handy if you need to remove the back glass later for whatever reason..And it's looks cool tool
Sent from my D6616 using XDA Free mobile app
If you are uncomfortable with the DIY method, I'm sure local repair shops should do it for less than 1/2 the cost of the deductible.

Broken screen

So I just broke my screen glass of the Gflex 2 at a party lol
Does someone know if we can already buy replacement parts somewhere.?
Pce
If you have insurance you shouldn't have to pay alot to get it fix.
How did you break it? Mines been pretty tough so far...
Yeah you can, it'll cost you about $150. The repair I doubt you'll find a place that would be willing to do it for less than 350 at the moment, at least not a legit repair store. If you do however I highly suggest you make sure you get some type of warranty with the repair.
Actually I was kinda drunk..
The Phone was on my lap and I didnt realised that
I jumped of the couch and the phone flew and hit the wall.
The damage is not the biggest im kinda suprised by that.. lol
Thx for replies guys
