having trouble with push mail - HTC Tornado

I have upgraded a cingular branded 2125 to the imate ROM, i-mate_SP5_WWE_2.5.331.2.zip. After fixing the header file, the rom loaded easily. There has been a significant performance improvement over the stock cingular ROM. My issue is with push mail. I feel like I must be missing something. I have enabled the service on the comm manager, set active sync to get mail as it arrives, but alas, it doesn't work. The only way to get the mail is to manually initialize it or schedule it to retrieve every x minutes.
I have a Wizard which I have enabled AKU and it works like a charm.
I was trying to set up this phone for a co-worker...
Any thoughts on what to look for on this Faraday? I'm stumped.

If Direct Push is enabled on your co-worker's device, and Direct Push is working on your device, it is most likely an issue with the Exchange Server settings. There are a few things I can think of.
1. Is your co-worker on the same carrier as you? In the Global Settings, I believe there must be a Mobile Service configured for each carrier.
2. In Active Directory, Up-To-Date Notifications must be enabled on the Exchange Features tab of the user profile for your co-worker.
If you have the ability to watch active TCP/IP connections to your Exchange Server, check to see if your co-worker's device is maintaining a http/https connection.
If I think of anything else I'll post again.

Ooops - Scratch #1, I think that is only for SMTP and text message notifications, not Direct Push.

Thanks, but it is the same exchange server, just different email addresses.
Glad mine is working, but I'm stumped why I can't get his to. I was thinking of reflashing his phone, but everything else seems to work just fine...

I'm an ID10T...Thanks for suggestion #s 2+3...I'll check them this morning.
Cheers!

Direct Push working(kinda) on TMO SDA(US) using C600 CM

Direct Push email is working on my TMO SDA(US) by copying CommManager.exe and CommManager.exe.0409.mui from the new C600 rom and adding some registry entries. The problem is that the https connection between the phone and my Exchange server will not stay up. If I stop/start Direct Push on the phone, it will reconnect, but then drops again.
Does anyone know how the hearbeat process works on the phone or what might be causing the connection to drop?

IS there support for A2DP on there? Have you tested it yet?
I didn't modify Bluetooth, just Comm Manager.

There is some firewall heartbeat settings documented by microsoft, i have the Imate test rom running on my Qtek 8310 and push is working flawlessley, only using about 200 - 300kb per day in gprs as well.
look here this may be what you need http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905013
I have followed MS recommendations for setting up the server registry regarding heartbeats, and by watching netstat on the server, I can see that I have the same IP on the mobile when I reattach. I even attached wifi behind the firewall and saw the local IP in the server's netstat, but the connection still dropped. There must be some other registry entry on the phone I have missed.
Another thing that I have noticed is the phone does not connect to the server when the phone is rebooted. Comm Manager shows that DirectPush is in the active state, but the phone will not connect after a boot unless DirectPush is toggled.

Polaris Partially Connecting

I have my brand spankin' new TC on Rogers here in canada. Ran the auto connection wizard, great! I have Internet! But I get the cannot connect error every time i send or receive email using outlook. I have tried everything I know, is there something you can suggest? It works fine over WIFI, and ActiveSync via USB. But over the 3G there is nothing!
OK, I figured it out.
For future reference.
When your setting up the email account, do it manually as opposed to allowing the auto set up to happen. And at the outgoing mail server screen select advanced options and make sure it connects to your carrier (In my case "Rogers Internet") internet connection.

active sync roaming schema

hi,
after setting up my exchange server, i set the checkbox to enabled to have it sync using my schema while roaming. (this is nessecary with my provider since they don't have their own network, so i'm always roaming)
but today i was looking at my settings and suddenly saw that not only was the checkbox unchecked, but also grayed out (disabled) so i could not select it anymore.
anyone heard of this before or has a solution to the problem?
thanks
might be one of the things that can be controlled by the exchange admin. With the latest version of exchange 2007 and WM6.1, they can control virtually every single setting on the device. Maybe they set this up without realising it....?

No internet using USB to PC

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered, but have spent the last two days looking for a solution..
When connected via USB I cannot establish an internet connection, unless I delete the T-Mobile proxy setting.
I've applied the regedit edit that's been mentioned as a solution, but this didn't work.
Is there anyway to use the pass through connection without having to delete the proxy everytime?
The main annoyance is that the phone won't sync with my exchange server whilst connected to the PC. I have mail set up to sync with exchange server and all other items syncing with my PC. My Hermes sync'ed with anything and everything.
Thanks
just leave the proxy out.
T-Mobile's proxy is a pain in the arse and causes all sorts of problems.
I deleted the proxy from my connection on t-mobile nearly three years ago and on every single device i have had since. never had a problem since.
If the proxy is there, it affects ALL internet connections, so when you plug it in to your PC, it is trying to go through a Proxy that you can only access over GPRS.
that's why proxies are a PITA and should be deleted permanently.
and no, it should not affect anyhting if you delete it. or not that i have noticed anyway.
Thanks will give it a go when I get home.
Seem to be able to access internet without the proxy, but forgot my usb cable so can't test pass though at work.. fingers crossed!
When I deleted the proxy I couldn't then send SMS texts...?
That's a completely random coincidence. The proxy has nothing to do with SMS whatsoever.
you can of course make sure that you are using GSM for SMS. start>settings>connections>advanced network>SMS
set it to GSM. if this is already set, then it has nothing to do with the proxy.
Says "Your text message cannot be sent" after I removed the proxy. SMS is set to GSM. Could it have altered any other relevant settings? Have put the proxy back now but it still refuses to send the message.
Any ideas?
no, wouldn't have changed anything else. The proxy has no bearing on SMS whatsoever.
Like i said, i reckon it is just a coincidence, otherwise turning the proxy back on would have fixed it.
If it is set to GSM already try the other three settings as well.
and a soft reset of course....
Have found a cable and tested - still no joy after deleting proxy.
Connecting to PC, and items syncing with host PC are fine. Mail syncing with Exchange server fails and can't access internet via pass through.
Browsing and syncing with the exchange server is fine when not connected to the PC.
Btw kempas - SMS works fine after deleting the proxy setting, as it should do.
Steve
on the handset:
start>settings>connections>wifi (NOT Wireless LAN)> network adapters
set the drop down box to Internet.
On the PC:
Open Activesync>File>Connection Settings
Set "This computer connects to" to the internet.
Dunno what it is in vista, i have avoided it like the plague....
I did a soft reset and tried again (a couple of time) with no luck, unable to send text message.
Went to settings, connections and run through the network provider setup wizard, let it reset the phone and tried again. Settings 'seemed' all the same but SMS now sent without issue.
Will try removing the proxy again later and testing with another SMS.
EDIT: removed the proxy and sent an SMS without issue this time... So was a "completely random coincidence" as rhedgehog said.
Still can't access You Tube via it's mobile client though, at least, it still says no videos...
All now appears to do what I expect after removing proxy and following rhedgehog's advice. Pass through now works Many thanks!
Also appeared that the t-mobile proxy blocks Windows live and messenger

Just Web N Walk I believe, not plus, so I guess messenger is a no no. Will bypassing their proxy end up with me being charged for data??

No, but it is against the t&cs to use IM software when on basic web n walk. Tmobile block the ports for IM software anyways, it seems for new customers since several old customers managed to get through.....i never could though, so the proxy would make no difference if it is on or off.
I personally am on wnw+ which is TOTALLY worth it for using the HSPA when out with my laptop on location.
Cheers for that. Won't really need messenger to be honest - but the proxy setting interfering with the pass through was annoying.

Log into My T-Mobile or call customer services and get the adult content filter turned off.
I think they blocked it to prevent kids blowing mummy and daddy's credit on watching videos.
Of course, Streaming is also against the T&C's of wnw standard, so it could be that this is why. I'm on wnw+ and had to turn off the filter to get it working.
Yep, that was it. Cheers for the reply...

FUZEinMYpants,
Are you using a large outfit like gmail or something like your company email? If the latter, does it only work on wifi when you are on your company's wifi network or Starbucks' wifis as well?
The reason I'm asking is that depending on the email servers (there are two, one for sending, the other for receiving mostly) you may only be able to interact with them if your coming from an IP address that falls within the range of whatever the administrator set. I for example could not send email when I went down to Florida because AT&T gave me a too different IP address than what I get in New York so I had to ssh into my email server and modify the range.
Your admin may only allow email to be relayed out and/or read if you're on the LAN which in this case, in your office or college on their wifi network connected to the local area network to which the mail servers are connected.
If that's not it then we may have a connectivity problem with your settings. Maybe a bad proxy configuration, your email server doesn't like wap.cingular which is behind a nat, maybe your email server requires a type of encryption you're either not specifying or is not supported by Pocket Outlook, maybe they're using imap and not pop and you're mixing that up, maybe they don't have encryption but they used funky ports for the vanilla protocols -- I'm going to stop typing until you tell me what the story is with your email setup.
In the meantime, to hold yourself over with the phone and without wifi, consider getting your mail through a webmail thing your server may run (I run roundcube) using Opera or PIE, depending on the webmail interface.

Check the setting in your email settings under advanced server settings and make sure that it says Netowrk conncetion media net or att isp. I have seen it default to Work and that locks it into Wifi. I send and recieve email everyday on EDGE since I do not have 3g within 40 miles of here.
