Need Verizon "Wireless Sync" CAB from xv6700 - General Topics

Hey All,
Doing some hacking here...
My company only supports Verizon phones connecting to out Intellisync environment for access to our Exchange environment. Well I'm a Cingular user and don't want to switch. I've gotten a co-worker to grab the Verizon Wireless Sync software from the Verizon web page (rebranded Intellisync product) for me but it's only the WM2003 version. This version does actually work well, but I'm looking for WM5 perfection!
For all their WM5 phones the web site says "included in your phone" so what I was hoping for is that some nice soul with either a Samsung i830 (I know wrong forum) or a xv6700 (Apache) might be able to extract out the Wireless Sync CAB file and post it or shoot me a link or PM.
If not does anybody know where to get the latest WM5 version of Verizon's Wireless Sync product or maybe the Intellisync counterpart?
Any help appreciated - there's got to be more than one way to skin a corporate email system.
Thanks,
-JMS

You can find it here...
I posted the cab installer in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43555
It will give you what you need - and is the full client, not the cripled one VZW offers. Use it on my 8125 and other WM5 devices...even those that talk to the VZW wireless sync server.
If you have the VZW client installed you should uninstall before installing this one.
Regards - John

Wow, once again the folks on this board are awesome.
Thanks so much, I'll give it a whirl, I really appreciate the help!
-JMS

Hey chybinj,
That worked beautifully, much smaller and better designed for WM5 than that older sync client I had.
Thanks again for your quick help.
-JMS

My pleasure...glad to help - I know my head hurt from all the whacks on my desk casued by previous versions.
If I get a newer version I will repost...may get an upgrade our server in a few weeks.
Regards - John

Instant Message (Chat) Software options

I have seen many messages go by discussing what is the best software for instant messaging. Up until recently, I had been using Agile Messenger. It was quite unstable when I first started using it a couple of years ago, but it is much better now. There is a cost now, which I think is high, but I would be willing to pay. Before buying into Agile though, I felt I should review my other options, and I have run into problems with each. Can anyone either help me get past these problems, or perhaps suggest another solution? Here are the programs I have tried and the problems I have experienced.
Agile Messenger - I have become very happy with the software, but I am not fond of subscriptions. I would much prefer to be able to buy the software outright. I may be able to get over that, but I discovered something else. I like to try the different ROM's that show up on this board and I have noticed that my customer ID in Agile changes with the different ROM's. Does this mean I need to buy a new license each time I change my ROM? I have written email to Agile about this and a couple of other questions and I have never heard back. I am concerned about the lack of support. There are also security questions that have been presented elsewhere on this board about having a middleman handle your connection to the various chat services since the middleman needs to know the username and password to connect.
IM+ - I tried this program, and I like the fact that I can purchase it and be done. I also like that it seems to connect directly to the chat services, thus getting rid of the middleman problem mentioned above. I have been experiencing a problem though where I appear to be online, both from my side, and from the side of my buddies, but messages do not go through. I have also experienced situations where I have successfully sent messages to friends, they replied, but I did not receive the replies. I find this type of unreliability to be intolerable, especially since you can not tell if it is happening. As far as you know, you are sending messages but your friends are not responding when they very well might be. I have tried reinstalling after a hard reset with the same problem.
IMOV - From what I can tell, this is just a XMPP (Jabber, Google..) client. It relies on relays on the Internet to access any other chat system such as AOL, or Yahoo. This introduces the problem with the middleman above, but further, these relays are practically anonymous. At least with Agile, I have some idea (though not a perfect one) who I am entrusting my credentials to. I do not have that with the relays used by XMPP. I guess I could research the available relays and find one I trust, but I am not looking to do that right now.
Verichat - I have not tried this in a while. It is another subscription based system and is a middleman. I guess my thought is that if I am going to pay an ongoing fee AND have a middleman, I would rather have Agile.
Okay, this has gotten to be a long post, but I think it presents my current position. I communicate with users of AOL, Yahoo, Google, and MSN. I can not get all of them to see reason and just all change to IRC or XMPP :-D
I am running this on a Universal (i-Mate Jasjar) with Windows Mobile 5. I am posting in general because I am sure this is a topic that affects many of the XDA phones.
Thanks for any input you can provide.
As far as IRC is concerned, don't forget to check out my IRC-related roundups - I've cross-posted some of the latest ones here in the General forum too.
I have just discovered those. I have given thought to using IRC, but I do not know if I need yet another transport to become dependant on. If I had it all to do over again, I would select IRC and / or XMPP for how open they are and ignore anyone who refused to do the same. (In a perfect world.. )
Octro: Gtalk
There is also Octro which is a Google Chat program that can do chat and VOIP even over a 1x connection (uses the jabber connection).
http://www.octro.com/
It's only for Google right now but the developers have noted that they will add AIM, Y!, MSN, etc later on (it's still in beta).
The VOIP part is really neat. It's not perfect but it is much less resource intensive than Skype and feels more "phone like" when you get an incoming call.
We have an ongoing thread where here at ppcgeeks.com where the developer pops in (they're very good at fixing bugs, adding features, etc.)
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/octro-new-im-client-w-voip-support-1-05-on-1-3-07-t1459.html#12485
The software is free right now but there will be a cost later. For me, this software has the most potential out of all the other programs if only b/c it's being developed now and you the user can help make it better...
Octro looks good..
I look forward to seeing Octro when the other IM systems are added. I wonder what kind of cost will be attached. Anyone have suggestions to solve the problems I was having with IM+? Has anyone else tried to contact Agile? Any luck?

Good news, AIM, ICQ and MSN were just added! (still experimental but it works for me)
Version 1.06 came out today. As far as price...dunno. It's free though till the end of Feb.
yea im also looking into some other options since i upgraded my rom. they discontinued verichat so unless you have your old license (if you bought it) its not going to work. im using octro now and it seems to be working fine. i tried installing agile but theyre files are all messed up. any more suggestions?
Not Quite sure how aim is incorporated.
How exactly does one go about using their aim acount with octro? I just downloaded the pocket pc version from the site and just got a google talk account but still haven't figured out how to contact people using aim. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

GoogleTalk must be online
or RTFM
Welcome to this forum
There is a new one that does them all (AIM, MSN, GTalk, Yahoo, ICQ, and Jabber) that is currently free and Java based. I quit using IM+ (which I paid for) and am using it exclusively. Currently the beta testing is closed while I think they upgrade their servers, but should open up again shortly I think).
It is supposed to be for the crackberries, but works great on my Dash and K-Jam:

You mean Octro? It's working great under WM6 - have been testing it.
I'll publish a big roundup of all these apps in the next 1-2 days - stay tuned
hey anyone know of one that will use http proxy?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com:80/showthread.php?t=294938 for a preview of the article (sorry, it has a typo: Ocrp vs Octro. I'll fix this in the final version.)
I've been using Octro 1.09 on my 8525 on t-mobile. I prefer it to Agile. The voice function works but not very well. Excessive delay and feedback requires use of a headset. I can tether to my laptop and use GTalk and the voice is flawless. I'm hoping they work on the voice feature more. Other than issues with voice Octro is excellent.

Looking For Free IM App For WM6/SmartPhone, and free SSH app

Hi. I'm running a T-Mobile Dash with Windows Mobile 6, and I'm looking for a free IM client that can connect to AIM, at least. I know Windows Live gives me Pocket MSNIM, but only a tiny minority of my friends use that. The on-board Oz Instant Messenger refuses to work with AT&T, and I just get error messages, so I'm kind of at a stand-still right now.
The other thing I'm looking for is a lower priority, I'm trying to find an SSH client for my SmartPhone too. PocketPuTTY, I've heard of, but I can't seem to find it. Again, I'm cheap, so I'm hoping for something free.
There's one catch to all this: I'm running a Mac, so EXE installers are no-go. CABs and SFX (Self-Extracting ZIPs) are usable, but anything more complex isn't going to work.
Thanks for all the help!

Welcome to XDA-Dev
Rule of thumb: follow my articles - I've published full Bibles and roundups on almost all aspects of handheld computing. Your question is answered in the Smartphone General forum, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323654
Let me know if you need help in extracing the CAB file of any EXE installers - I'll upload it for you.
Oohh, useful!
Well, thank you. Your article was thorough, and (in the end) informative. I was aware of Mundu, IM+ and Imov messengers, and I was hoping someone had an alternative to them that was free. Your article eventually lead me to the Basic version of Imov, but the problem is that it's one of those set-up EXEs that I can't seem to crack. I've managed to find a download of Imov Basic 1.22, and I'd be willing to provide it for you.
Thank you for the offer, and all the help.
is there any cracked verson available for mundu

Since I don't see it mentioned, you may be able to use PocketPuTTY,
http://www.pocketputty.net/ ,
for a SSH application. It works for me. The file that you download while named PocketPuTTY.exe is a Windows Mobile binary. Just copy it to your phone and run it. Hope it works for you.
So regarding IM clients Do they all use webgateways provided by the Makers. Are there any that directly connect to the AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN Servers?
Not that I walk around wearing a tinfoil hat. but I just like to know where my data is being sent.
Octro Chat uses one. But I can't find any info as to if mundu uses one. If they all use it I will get over it but I was just curious is anyone knew.
pocket putty doesnt run on smartphones just ppc. i am also looking for a free shh client for smartphone (wm standard)
if your looking for just aim..this is about as good as your gonna get lol

WM6 Sprint PPC6800 Where is Terminal Services

I had Sprint PPC6700 but it died so Sprint said they would send me a PPC6800 because they where out of 6700's. But I can not find Terminal Services. I use it almost daily for remote management of the servers I manage. Where can I download it?
thank you very much
Desperate
If anyone finds this useful, I just picked up a sprint htc touch pro and found a link to a mstsc cab file on this forum and it worked perfectly thanks.
Glad to find this forum as I was able to find what I needed the very first day I registered.
6800 is the Titan/Mogul ~ perhaps post/request in that forum ~ might be a regular there that can help you out.

BBConnect

Question might be better fared here...
Allegedly, my employer does not support BBConnect, only Blackberry Only devices.
If I was to run BBConnect on the HTCFuze - would it work? I'm not familiar with the BES interface and settings... so I figured you all may be a bit more knowledgeable on this.
Any help is appreciated...
As a BES admin i can say that the BES does support BBConnect but it is quite possible that this functionality has been disabled at the BES itself.
For it to work, and i am assuming that you are looking for full two way synch of mail/calendar/address book, then you are going to need the co-operation of the BES admin. If he says no dice then i am afraid it is no dice.
Also BBC is never going to give you the full BB experience, i had two BBC users, one of whose handsets broke and after two days with a real BB he said to not bother replacing the dead handset.
Are the company going to be paying for any part of this?
Thanks for the responce...
They are not paying or any part of this- as I'm a 3rd party consultant. I've previously used my blackberry that has since died. I'd assume the information I got was their general dismallal of useage of the blackberry connect.
All I really need is my mail useability on a WM6 platform- so I can utilize the phone for my consulatant company needs, as well as my employer (blackberry) needs right now. This would mean a WM6 platform letting meuse webmail- and a secure BBconnect app on the WM6 to let me just check my mail- thats all I need from the BES.
Im just trying to avoid carrying 2 phones with me... that's really all. I'm not trying to compromise security- they are interfering with my productivity!
do they allow OWA access to your email? if so look at setting it up as a BIS connection. never done it and we don't run Exchange so it's not an option for us but it may do what you want without impacting anything else.

[Q] WM6 standard to wm6 Professional

Hi Everyone,
A few days ago I bought a Palm Treo 500 on eBay which arrived yesterday. I assumed it would be just like my very worn out XDA Orbit, just with a keyboard and no touchscreen. It seems I was very much mistaken. The Palm runs WM6 Standard and I am stunned at all the missing features compared to the professional version.
Some current annoyances are:
Outlook wont let me specify more than one email account at the same domain. It says name already used.
I can't customise the home screen and or start menu.
Cannot edit repeating entry pattern in outlook
Cannot create word and excel docs
and on and on and on....
I always liked my Windows Mobile but I had only ever used the Pro version.
So, my question is:
What can I do about my Treo? Can I upgrade it to the Pro version. I know I can buy extra software to address some of my issues (docs to go, pocket informant etc) but spending on extra apps seems daft when I could have just bought something like an XDA mini with the pro OS in ROM.
Thanks for your help
Richard
Someone with the same device needs to dump his rom take out the drivers,
insert them into a WM 6.1 rom at best, create an image and upload it here.
Your Treo seems to be the only model without touchscreen.
I could not find a anything about your device on this site, yet.
Thank you for your reply. It looks like I will have to either accept the shortcomings and buy add-on software or stick it back on ebay and look for something different.
Cheers
Richard
