Hi everyone.
After much searching I seem to have got nowhere. Can someone please help.
My mda compact 2 starting playing up yesterday, rebooting on its own, so I tried to install the upgrade from tmobile (ruu charmer). The upgrader stopped and my mda now has a screen that only either says serial v1.02 or usb v1.02.
I've tried rebooting it several times in several different ways without any joy, the screen just remains the same. I tried connecting to my laptop via active sync, but its like it doesn't exist anymore!
I'm about to give up after hours of trying to fix it, so any assistance in very simple terms would be much appreciated!
problem solved
Seems like my problem must have been too basic or too common for anyone to bother to help, so I did some searching myself throughout this site and elsewhere.
However, what I found was thoroughly misleading and unhelpful.
The error messages are also inaccurate and totally misleading. Error 274 might mean pc can't connect to pda, but it also means other things, like your using the wrong upgrade firmware!!. Having serial v1.02 or usb v1.02 on your screen does not mean its a grey and black brick(useless), its simply the upgrade mode screen.
Basically, I made an error in choosing my upgrade. I chose the wrong firmware package from t-mobile thinking what I had was a mdacompact 2, when it actually was just a mda compact. This error was the main issue, yet from this forum I had the idea it could have been a number of things.
One important thing to remember is adhering to all the instructions regarding the installation of the new rom.
Don't bother unless you do the following:
1) Make sure you have a good connection via cradle or usb lead when doing the download.
2) Make sure you close all unnecessary programs on your pc.
3) Dont touch either your pc or the mda during installation.
4) Don't give up after you read misleading rubbish on the web.
5) Make sure you download from the web the correct upgrade firmware!!(very important in my case!)
6) Active sync is not totally necessary during the process.(I turned off usb connection in its setting during my installation).
Hey

For no apparent reason, Activesync (4.5 5096) of Outlook on my TC (standard ROM see below) has stopped working. Outlook email/contacts/diary not getting synced.
After plugging USB in a message says 'Sync cannot be connected succesfully...try again... and run troubleshooting..'. But Activesync/Help/Troubleshooting/Reporting says there is nothing wrong! Indeed, I can still explore TC and card, sync other software (e.g. Media Player, TomTom Home, eWallet etc).
But I can't get in to the ActiveSync/Options menu to check out the relationship. Have soft reset TC, turned off PC firewalls etc, but nothing helps. Little puzzled because it all worked fine for the past 2 months and I wasn't even playing around when it decided not to work!
Any ideas please?
Thanks,
CI

had the same problem some time ago. changed the cable and everything was fine.you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling activesync.

Thanks. Cable was OK, but uninstall/reinstall of activesync worked. indeed speeded up activesync and fixed a lot of other minor secondary problems while it was at it would recommend it for all every now and then. strikes me that activesync is one of the those bolt-on bits of MS obeseware that needs regular maintenance?
USB Device not recognized
To mark the anniversary of me posting my original message, all of a suddden and for no apparent reason, Activesync has stopped working again. Bizarre
This time its a little different, I don't get anything except a pop message on PC saying 'USB device not recognized: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click on this message'. Which of course I di and it didn't help!
So, I've tried
- un-installing/re-installing Activesync 4.5
- rebooting PC and TC umpteen times
- changed USB port/cable
- tick/untick Settings/Connections/USB-to-PC/Enable Advanced network functionality
- putting the kettle on
Nothing is working (Although the cup of tea was nice
Would really appreciate some help please
Thanks

Help! Really desperate on this one. I have been trying to think why this should suddenly happen. Two things possible:
- During my last succesful sync I received and answered a call. Would this damage registers or something?
- I accidently pulled the mini-USB headphone cable a bit while listening toi music. But the sound is still perfectly OK, and I receive power charge via USB even though it won't connect/sync. And like I said, I've swapped cables/ports.
I've Googled this a lot and most people fix by fiddling with stuff I have already done and praying!
Please. Anyone got any ideas before I too start praying!
Thanks
1. No, it should not. Never heard it did.
2. AFAIK, not reason as long as it charges trough USB port.
Try to delete device from Active Sync while device is not connected. You might need to restart PC.
You'll have to set options again when device is recognised.
This is what I have to do often.
Also, check device name on device itself, it tends to change from time to time for no apparent reason (at least to me). If it changes, it causes following problems to me:
1. Active Sync troubles
2. BT connection to car audio stops working.
Hope some of this will help...
BTW... you have WM 6.0 on it? If so, don't upgrade to WM 6.1... IMHO, WM 6.0 is faster than 6.1 and has less problems with Active Sync...
Bodisson,
Thanks for suggestions. Alas, none work
It looks like I am going to have to hard reset and/or burn new ROM. For those of us who don't do this regularly, this can be a nerve racking experience. However, I was perhaps sweating too much about it for a couple of reasons:
- it seems very few people have anything good to say about WM6.1. Until now I have been pretty happy with WM6.0 and have had 14 months of virtually trouble-free use, so maybe I'll just stick with that. I'm not a power-user, so the vast array of cooked ROMs is rather bewildering. Unless one is rock solid and aimed at non-power end-users?
- I thought installing a new ROM without Activesync was impossible, but I see someone has worked a way to do it via the SDHC card. Well done XDA
So, unless anyone has some further ideas I will just hard reset to WM6.0 and hope for the best. I have this terrible feeling though that my mini-USB port is damaged and I'll get the same bubble of doom even after hard reset.
Thanks
Either do a hard reset back to factory (and hope you can re sync all your stuff with the PC),
OR
Re flash the rom to C Shekar's "b" rom. It really is very good, and transforms the phone. In fact, it is so good that I have finally stopped fiddling with my phone! (and I'm a born fiddler!)
It is very good, and works immediately, but you might need to spend time tweaking it - the must is to install the correct radio.
I've done quite a lot of rom upgrading, so am quite comfortable now with the process. If you want to do it and need a hand, let me know.
Have you tried to verify your firewall? Last time I had some Sync problems was just after updating my firewall that changed settings to default, blocking the Polaris-PC communication.
Have tried disabling all firewalls with no luck.
I've hit a brick wall on this one, but am fearful it will be hard to get device back to working order again if I do hard-reset and still can't sync
Suggestions very welcome
Thanks

OK, I feel for you on this one!
If you don't want to flash to a new rom (or, re flash to your old one), there is a solution but it involves removing and renaming your Outlook.pst file ... the procedure (which is on this site somewhere) seemed fraught with danger, to me, so i preferred to re flash when i had a similar problem.
Before re flashing, if you decide to, you backup your data using PIMBackup - only your contacts and maybe phone call list, not anything specific to the phone's operating system or software.
Re flash, then restore the data.
Then, Active Sync will see the phone as a completely new system.
Folks I have installed WM6.1 ROM on hx4700 and all working absolutley fine.
I have used Windows Visual Studio 2008 Security manager to make sure Device is using Security Off Profile (knowing full well about the security issue, i.e unsigned applications and hit at ibm.com for this).
The Program installs fine and runs and I can sync. Then if I reset device as it starts up I get a message : "The file "XCPCSyncSvr" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found." and suggest reinstalling which I have done a few times.
So with no security, shouldn't be the signed app issue, and program ran so I know components are on the device so where do I go from here ?
I have got the same Problem. After I install the EASYSync Pro I could able to syncronize Lotus Notes. I was quite happy that it is working. But to my surprise after resetting the device (Cold Restart) I got the pop-up Window...."The file "XCPCSyncSvr" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found."
Any Luck
hi guys , got the same problems on my acer dx900 and laplink , it will not connect and when cold booted the acer gives the same error

Same problem on Acer DX900
Hi,
I have the same problem. There is a second solution now on this IBM site http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=465&context=SSKTPA&dc=D600&uid=swg21281860&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=en
Unfortunately also this second solution does not work for me :-(
Anybody found a solution yet?
Thanks.
Hi all,
Here's the thing, my Polaris never worked perfectly in what concerns the USB Sync, most of the times I used to get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message from Windows (BTW I'm using Vista 64 Home Premium) but eventually with no apparent reason it synced.
Last week, in one of these rare occasions when the sync worked, I updated it with the official ROM from HTC to WM6.1. And then looking at the forum and the custom ROMs I've decided to try another ROM.
But since then I've never got to make the sync work again AND when I tried to use the Bluetooth, by turning it ON, now a got a message that says "Error: Problem with Bluetooth hardware". And BT used to work just fine in my old ROM.
I've already looked every possible forum thread I could find, tested it with three different cables (even bought a new one from Belkin), hard reseted it several times and I simply don't know what else to do. I can't even return to the previous ROM since my Polaris won't USB sync.
Any help would be very appreciated. Tks in advance!
have you tried disabling any antivirus/firewall software? if still get the same result i think you may have to install a 32 bit edition of windows
I posted the following item in the "Beginners instructions thread" last week, but only one person has responded. I am trying to repost again in the hope that more people will see it and that someone will have experienced this previously:-
I have read countless threads on this site and have finally decided to upgrade my O2 XDA from WM5 to WM6.
I have found the instructions for doing this, but have fallen at the first hurdle.
The mobile update utility cannot connect to my Wizard, (error 222). I am still able to sync with active sync, so my pda is seeing and being seen by the pc.
Is there anything that I can do to at least get started please?
P.S. I have tried downloading lokiwiz, but that doesn't work either. I tried searching google for it, but that only brings me back to this site.
Is it actually possible to upgrade or am I missing something really stupid?
P.P.S
I have now done a hard reset. The only thing that I have changed is the date and time. This is now an O2 Exec, completely as it came out of the factory. I am using Active Sync 4.5. Why can I not connect to the button rom?
im not too sure what your issue is but i think you will get an answer on ppcgeeks.com. i use this site and that one. you have a lot of experts between the 2 sites
Thanks aman1127, my main problem is that the mobile update utility cannot connect to my Wizard, (error 222). I am still able to sync with active sync, so my pda is seeing and being seen by the pc.
I have read all the warnings about turning your Wizard into a brick, I can't even get it to do that!
I have checked the help tab on the Mobile Updat Utility, but that gives me "error 404"
Is there a proper way to upgrade my device using software and instructions that are up to date?
I'll have a look at the other site as well. Many thanks for your help.
