Lost radio reception - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hello PPL.
Can anyone help with the problem of losing the radio reception on my XDAII? All was working well before I upgraded to the latest ROM from O2, from then on it has lost 90% of the phone reception.
I've had the phone in twice for repairs, and came back working well until I changed some ordinary software on the unit, and bingo, phone reception was lost again.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before, and if so, how can it be prevented.
I'm at the end of my rope with this, and the Tech who fixed my phone by relacing the motherboard has never run across this situation before.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I've a weak signal too, but i don't understand why. Where siemens s55 and s65 show 50% - i have no signal! How to fix it?

Guys,
I had the same problem - I had to get my RF card replaced (apparently).
It came back with a New IMIE etc, but has worked fine ever since.
I suggest if you can get it fixed under warranty - you should!!
Basically I would have reception fine, until I made a call or received a call - the 2 secs later - call would drop out 9/10 times.
Hope this help - and hope you get it fixed.
I'm not around here much, so apologies if I don't reply fast! ;-)
cheers
johnny

Thank you Johnny for your help, I'll look into that. I'm assuming though that when my motherboard was replaced, the radio aspect of it was replaced as well.If I'm incorrect about this please let me know, but thanks again regardless

i've got radio reception problems, too. my device went to warranty repair and it returned just today (after a waiting period of 6 weeks). but the only thing that was changed was the firmware as far as i recognize. only the firmware, but no radio or hardware upgrade !!
in specific, my problem was, that i lost signal everytime i went to another radio tower, so especially on a highway. i'm just testing around a bit now, and i hope the problem is gone now. if not, i'll try to phone the company to get a new board installed, thanks for the hint.
why are warranty issues so complicated everytime ?? i wrote a very (!) detailed error description, but it seemes that the dumb people there just didn't read it !

WiFi won't turn on

hello,
I know there are a few old threads about this but instead of digging up an old one I thought I would start a fresh, seeing how none have answers on.
I have a problem on my raphael, the wifi wont turn on, I click the button in comms manager and nothing happens, it thinks a while and then decides that it wont turn on.
This occured on the original HTC rom and the Energy 3.0 ROM I have on it now.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
Stuart
hard reset or reload a new rom
To be honest.. I don't think there is a solution to this problem. If it's the problem that I have, then I think it's a hardware problem. Since you've had it happen on two roms now, it might be safe to say that a hard reset won't work.
My situation is similar to yours, except mine will sometimes turn on (and turn itself off in a few minutes).
well!
mild pain, I have tried it over 2 roms 2 radios and a hard reset, so none of them fix it, I dont think it is finding the card properly.
I had the same issue, i confirmed with HTC it is a hardware issue (i don't remember the wifi ever working working, but i did not try it for the first 6 months i owned the phone......)
I actually received my replacement phone in the mail (thanks AT&T) last friday
My problem is that my phone was bought at an import phone store... So they can't really replace the phone for me (I guess they probably can't afford something like that). All they've tried was to direct me to other places to fix the phone. I'd have to send it overseas to fix it =(.
Now that's annoying, I got my phone second hand so really can't send it off for replacement
Looks like the data upgrade orange just gave me 250mb - 500 will come in handy after all!
Thanks for your responses people, I think I will add this to the list of known faults on the wiki.

[Q] Is it possible to repair radio (hardware) ?

Hello all,
Well, some days ago, I decided to buy a Rhodium and sell my old Raphael, but first I had to fix the keyboard space bar who was causing trouble (had to push quiet strong to (as this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777284). So, I had an old TP who was bricked, I thought I could switch the keyboard to fix this problem.
I disassembled the TP very very slowly and carefully (2 hours to open the first housing [...]) after all was done, I reconnected the speaker (once more, 2 hours to reconnect it...). I started the phone... all was fine, keyboard ok, but radio signal no detected (may be a bad location). Well, after somes hours I thought the rom was causing trouble -> flash into shipped rom, radio included, not improvement. Updating radio to latest one... no change. Hardware problem could only cause this.
But, when I'm very very very (yes, very !) near a great signal radio, my TP can connect to the operator ! (but low signal : EDGE). Otherwise, the TP is like in Flight mode.
What have I done ? have I destroyed the radio ? I followed the dissassembling process step by step.
Ps : I switched again to my old keyboard, no changing. :/
Ps 2 : Already posted in TP hardware problems, no answer.
Ps 3 :A beer will be offer to the one who could help me.
Up.
Please, has anyone an idea ?
I finally managed to repair it myself.
Opened device several times fixed battery & phone with tape and moved the hardware. After some test I found that if I link a little piece of metal next to USB to the plastic component, phone recovered radio signal, GPS, etc.

[Q] Intermittent "No SIM Card-Emergency Calls Only"

Alright everyone, I've Googled my brains out (not in a dirty way) and haven't found any real resolution to the above issue. I've tried all the usual suspects; replacing the SIM Card, cleaning the SIM Card, adding tape to the back side of the card to ensure good contact, replacing SIM/MicroSD PCB Board, fresh Wipe of ROMs and Radios, etc. None of those things have had any real results except replacing the PCB-it seems to be less frequently occurring with the new SIM tray. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm willing to try just about anything.
Thanks in advance.

How often does this happen?
It only happens to me when I have to change the network mode. I've rarely seen it other except for maybe when my phone finds an LTE signal.
Otherwise, it could be the antennas. My mom once dropped her Samsung Focus and the antennas got screwed up.

Sometimes it'll happen through several reboots within a few minutes. It'll also happen when my phone is sitting, untouched, on my desk. There shouldn't be any network mode switching if my phone isn't moving.

The only thing I can think of is to flash back to Stock AT&T software and see what happens. If you still have the same problem, it's most likely an antenna issue and you might be better off buying a new phone.
Time to return to stock and see what happens. Ugh, what an annoying issue.
EDIT: After returning to stock and installing TWRP I ran the stock UCMC1 software for a little while without incident. While I was setting up CM I got the dreaded "No SIM-Emergency Calls Only" message. I'm at a loss here. I guess it might just be time to start shopping for a new phone.
EDIT: I'm going to try running *SHUDDERS* stock Samsung/AT&T software for a few days to see if the problem persists. I'm pretty skeptical that this is a software issue, though, since I haven't seen too many people reporting this issue.
Good effort
Given all your efforts in eliminating various variables, I'm starting to believe Hangampalli is probably right and it might be a Hardware issue.
But it is a simple observation to stay on a solid stock ROM like the recent UCMC1 (original att version) for a couple of days and see what happens.
You remind me of myself with my Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) random shutdowns last year. I chewed up all the threads at XDA back to back and tried anything, and it still did it ... but we all know when to quit.
Cheers to your efforts:good:
I727-UCMC1-CM10.1
Well after about 20 minutes into running the phone on UCMC1 Stock my phone came up with the same stupid error. I'm going to see if AT&T is willing to do anything for me since I just got this phone as a replacement in October. But if not, I guess I'll be phone shopping. :-/ Such a shame because I really love this phone and its community of users and devs.

its the phone, is it still under warranty
I got the phone as a replacement from AT&T (bad headphone jack, last time) in about October. I'm going to try to see if they'll replace it for me. Fingers crossed.
Ya I have had this same problem. Changing ROMs fixed it for me though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
AT&T apparently warranties their replacement devices for 90 days or until the end of the original device's warranty, whichever is longer.
What does that mean for me? I'm boned. I guess I'm stuck with my iPhone until I buy a new phone. It's going to be hard leaving this great community of Developers and Users and shedding such a great device.
Humm... I wonder if I have the same problem, is there any tests you can do to see if it is the sim card tray or something like the attenna ? I seem to have service sometimes, not all the time.

[Q] Xperia problems after fall

Hello,
i'm new here i was trying to find answers on my problem but i wasn't able to find anything so i'm creating this new topic.
Last month i accidentally dropped my phone. I wasn't able to do anything (touch screen didn't respond) so i reseted it through the battery and it worked...but since then it's overheating anytime i use it (even usual works like phone calls makes it overheated) therefore the battery die out really quickly...charging took ages and it's also overheating during it. My camera is not working and internet connection does not work too...but if i remove battery and sim card it's working again...and for a while it's not overheating...but after 1 hour or so it's happening again..... any hints pleeeease ?
Most probably it's a hardware issue since you dropped your phone. You can get it repaired by the service centre or any other shops
And there's a seperate section to post queries/questions/problems. Use that next instead of posting so that somebody easily finds you

GPS issues after Nougat update

Hi all,
I'm shouting out just to see if anyone has experienced GPS symptoms like mine.
I installed the Nougat update (via LG UP I think). I then even hard reset once Nougat was installed.
Now when I use GPS in driving apps like Maps or Waze, it loses the gps lock and searches for location quite frequently.
I even downloaded the GPS Status app and did a cold start and refreshed my agps data etc...
I'm pretty sure I had no issues before the upgrade (but I also recently went on a long road trip whereas I don't normally drive which could have accentuated the dormant issue) so was just curious if this has happened to anyone else?
I'm familiar with some hardware G5 GPS issues so before I contact Verizon or LG I figured I would just see if anyone has had any post Nougat GPS issues.
Thanks,
T
I have the same issue. It is very annoying. Hopefully they sort this out.
Strange, could possibly be a coincidence and is the hardware failure finally setting in, but the timing sounds a bit suspicious..
Yes, I've got the same thing since the nougat update along with a host of other problems that I'll bring up in another thread. Ok, I'll touch on them here, but start a new thread rather than thread-Jack. Since the nougat update I have four noticeable problems, the NAV issue being one of them. Two other minor annoyances and one big one. When I plug in a fast charger, oem or not (I have several), I frequently get TWO notifications, one that says slow charge and one that may say charge, or fast charge. If I unplug and replug, everything is fine. I've also been getting ghost images when I change screens. Also, my multitude of Bluetooth headsets (mostly LG) have become unusable for phone calls. Fine for streaming audio, but unuseable for calls. All these problems started after the nougat update. I did a factory reset with no change. Verizon is going to send me a new phone. If it's not on nougat, I'm NOT going to update it! I was very happy with my phone until I got the update, now I'm just frustrated. When Google/LG/Verizon fix the bugs, then I'll update! Right now I'm just aggravated with the whole thing.
D Dave
my also having same problem ....
fyi, I ended up contacting Verizon and they eventually escalated me to tier 2 and the tier 2 guy said it was a rare known issue to have a hardware gps issue and he said to swap the unit. Since I wasn't under warranty with them I contacted LG and will send it in to them.
..same issue
@up
What does "swap the unit" means?

@MARCIN2M - It means they were willing to send me a new phone in exchange for the old phone.
Update... I got my phone back from the LG repair center. It's the same phone I sent them (same serial number). On the very sparse notes that came in the box, it said they re-flashed the memory. I don't know exactly what was meant by that. GPS seems to work now.

Hi, were you able to find out what flashing your phone means?
Sorry tase25, I'm not sure. My gps is still working great even today.
