WiFi won't turn on - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hello,
I know there are a few old threads about this but instead of digging up an old one I thought I would start a fresh, seeing how none have answers on.
I have a problem on my raphael, the wifi wont turn on, I click the button in comms manager and nothing happens, it thinks a while and then decides that it wont turn on.
This occured on the original HTC rom and the Energy 3.0 ROM I have on it now.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
Stuart

hard reset or reload a new rom

To be honest.. I don't think there is a solution to this problem. If it's the problem that I have, then I think it's a hardware problem. Since you've had it happen on two roms now, it might be safe to say that a hard reset won't work.
My situation is similar to yours, except mine will sometimes turn on (and turn itself off in a few minutes).

well!
mild pain, I have tried it over 2 roms 2 radios and a hard reset, so none of them fix it, I dont think it is finding the card properly.

I had the same issue, i confirmed with HTC it is a hardware issue (i don't remember the wifi ever working working, but i did not try it for the first 6 months i owned the phone......)
I actually received my replacement phone in the mail (thanks AT&T) last friday

My problem is that my phone was bought at an import phone store... So they can't really replace the phone for me (I guess they probably can't afford something like that). All they've tried was to direct me to other places to fix the phone. I'd have to send it overseas to fix it =(.

Now that's annoying, I got my phone second hand so really can't send it off for replacement
Looks like the data upgrade orange just gave me 250mb - 500 will come in handy after all!
Thanks for your responses people, I think I will add this to the list of known faults on the wiki.

TouchFlo Crashing

Hi
Only had my Orbit 2 for a few days and already there are quite a few problems with it...most of which got resolved so not too bothered there
However there is one problem that I cant fix. Sometimes when I bring up the TouchFLO it will crash on the screen with the radio, copilot, alarm, etc. The text under the icons does not load and the only way to get out of it is by pressing the end call key.
Soft reset doesnt solve the problem, it did once but only temporarily.
Hard reset has solved it (don't know if the problem will come again), wouldn't mind too much about that except I did a hard reset about 2 days ago for another reason so it is clear the device is just screwing up somehow. I barely installed much software on it.
So i've only hard resetted once to see if I can solve the problem and so far its worked. Hope its not temporary.
If anyone could help me I'd be grateful
(P.S. The button with the end call key and 'OK' is a bit loose, I can jiggle it about slightly left and right...)
Never had this many problems with my Artemis and for a device worth over £300 (over $600) I really think this is unacceptable. First the drivers, and now small problems which screw up the device totally. HTC are messing up big time and I think with all their negative feedback O2 might just cut down on buying their products.
The only time I've ever had Touch Flo, well, the Touch Cube crash was due to my installing City Time Alarms. After uninstalling, everything went back to normal. Maybe a specific app was causing your woes?
I installed an old version of SKTools and did a registry cleanup, maybe that had something to do with it... It did delete a whole lot of stuff..
I remember the problem only occured after I installed SKtools. I did do a hard reset earlier today and that was because the device became slow.. but nothing to do with TouchFlo.
Anyway I have hard reset the device now so I should not be getting any more problems from it..
But I am getting worried about the deivce though, there are so many bugs with it! Like today when the alarm went off to wake me up, the GPRS was turned on for about 56 minutes and I was definately asleep so I couldn't have turned it on!
I am scared to install a program on it incase that likes to mess up my device!
Also, is it normal for the right buttons (end call/OK) to be a BIT wonky? Like you can move it a bit from left to right? They work perfectly fine and I doubt they will suddenly detach or something! If you shake the device you CANNOT hear the slighlty wonky keys or anything, but just got a bit worried cos the other keys opposite it (pickup/windows) is not wonky at all...
This device is not worth £300
At most I would say it is worth £250
It is just so full of bugs and I have never had these kinds of problems with the other 4 PDAs that I have owned in the past. The more higher tech you go, the more unreliable the device becomes. My XDA II which I owned about 2 years ago was the most reliable I've ever had. HTC are really screwing it up and I think they are more interested in their money than their customers. I hope they screw up big time and I mean big time. If it wasn't for XDA-Developers they would have been out of business a long, looong time ago.
With regards to HTC, they didn't screw up. Sounds to me, just like anything you buy, you got a lemon. I would exchange it for another unit, not only for the system instability but also the "defective" (loose) button.
I bought the item off eBay so I cannot return it
The button is fine though, its nothing major it only moves ever so slightly and I dont think theres any problem with it. It works perfectly fine, I shouldn't really have mentioned it in the first place!
The system instability is normal though I am sure, look at what other problems people are having with their devices that get resolved every day.
O2/HTC doesnt expect lots of users to install custom ROMS (well I haven't) or edit the registry so the devices will be more user friendly and if you play about with that it can screw up.
I thought the device is kinda bad but I guess i'm happy with it, If I just use it normally and stop trying new things out on it and stop using programs like SK tools (lol) then I'll be fine. And if I have any small problems I am sure they can get resolved on here.
Anyways I am only 15 so I am going to be happy with what i've got lol!

I had the same problem. You actually have to let it sit for about 10 mins and it will load. If you close it, it might freeze for another 10 mins. After some time, the problem went away for reasons I cannot explain. Then, every time I select a button on the cube, the cube closes and I have to reopen it every time I want to use it.
Also, the bugs related with the "Word Completion" option, which does not function correctly, gave me a miserable experience with writing and typing. It slowed my writing and typing because I constantly have to correct bad guesses. I cannot turn it off either because the "Word Completion" option does not work. Sure I could go into the registry and mitigate the problem, but I returned it as a manufacturer defect.
I assume it will go back to HTC and I hope it will result in a response to fix the problems. For >$800 after tax, I would expect the purchase to function correctly.
Hi
Yes the word completion is annoying, I can't turn it off either. It is annoying when you write smaller words such as 'sed' as opposed to 'said', the word completion decides to change it.. It is really annoying especially when you have to type on the move. Not to mention it uses up a whole lot of characters when you try to said a text message. It is much easier and quicker to write 'thru', it uses only 4 characters whereas the proper spelling of the word 'through' uses up 7 - nearly double. With a limit of 160 characters per message you will find that you will quickly reach that limit. I have quite a lot of free texts so I do not mind much but I hate it when it puts the incorrect word in the place!
Also with your TouchFLO problem, did you try hard resetting the device? I found that if you play about with the registry the phone quickly messes up. That is understandable but harmless registry modifications such as the 'ShowSIM' can even screw up your phone!
If a problem appears on my device can I give it to O2 to repair for a fee -- I do not have a warentee so if they agree to fix it for a fee only then that seems fair.

Maybe its just me, but while programs like sktools can simplify your life, I really hate the idea of a non-device specific program tweaking my registry. I like to do it myself so that I know exactly what goes in, and I can assess exactly what comes out. FYI: I've never had a crash due to registry mods (but in my early days (pre-Touch Cruise) of installing random cabs and fixes I did get crashes).

Just soft resets. I didn't want to wait 10+ hours to resync my emails, contacts, etc after a hard reset.

Screen Alignment Issue - Fixed?

I had a problem with my cruise where I would need to run the screen alignment utility multiple times per day. It seems like every time I put my phone in sleep mode, then went to use it again like an hour or so later, the screen would be out of alignment. It was pissing me off very much!
So, I searched all over and came up with alot of people having that same problem -- but not on the TC. After further research, it seems as though the issue with the other device is related directly to a manufacturing flaw, so it really had nothing to do with the problems I was experiencing on the TC, as the two devices have very different screens.
I called and got an RMA and the tech told me that they haven't seen any problems with the polaris, and I should try to hard reset first and see if that would fix it -- then it would be proven to be a software issue and not hardware.
So, thats exactly what I did. I ran spb backup, made a backup, hard reset, and restored the backup...and the problem was fixed!! I cancelled the RMA.
But...anyways..enough with the long story...the point of this thread being, what I am still wondering about -- what in the hell could have caused this problem to begin with, and how would making a backup/hard reset/restoring the backup have fixed it?
If anyone that is smarter than me has any opinions or insights I would gladly appreciate them, cause even though this is fixed I would still like to have some explanation why it occured.
Thanks in advance.
A registry key could have created the problem, one that SPB backup didn't save... but could have been anything... we're talking Windows here... mobile version true, but still the same old M$ Windows... and in 98% of the SW related problems the best option is to reinstall...
Heh, I never thought of it like that, but I guess you are right..
In similar situations like that on a PC (things going wrong that just can't be explained) and when all else fails, a reinstall usually does the trick Oh well...guess there's not really much else to figure out lol..
Goin on 4 days now with no alignment
I just hope it stays fixed
As one of my friends said long time ago:
"What do you mean, it doesn't require reset button? It's running Windows!"

SD wifi issue

OK guys I know I have an old device, but PLEASE someone tell me they can help!!!!
I have a Spectec sd wifi card in my old Toshiba e800 pda. It worked fine until last week. Now every time I turn it off, when I turn it back on, I can't connect to my network. If I'm lucky I can see my network, but it'll say unavailable. I have to reboot - sometimes several times - to reconnect. I even went back to a backup before I had this issue, but it still does the same thing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software for it, but that didn't work. I really don't want to have to start over from scratch again, as I just did that a few months back. It still works as obviously sometimes it will connect. I'm not sure if it's a bad setting (how, I don't know as I hadn't changed anything) or what, but something's screwing it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You metioned this is an old device...I once ran into a problem with a wifi CF card because of an old battery not holding enough charge...so it would turn off the wifi at random....
this sounds reasonable, as the battery in the pda right now is the small one. I will test with the extended battery and get back to you. any OTHER ideas in case (and this is probably the case) it's something else?
Update: nope didn't work. Darn it, I was hoping it was that easy, as it would also be a good excuse to have to buy a new battery.
hmm...I would have to assume then it has to be a hardware issue with the sd card...You haven't recently installed anything correct?... I would hope that its not the actual card but its beginning to sound like it is
yep its the card :-(
where's the cheapest place to get 'em?
EBAY with out a doubt. I picked up a CF WIFI for 25.00 like 3 years ago.
Did some research and they are 19.95 on Ebay.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find them in any major retail store. (Online at least)
Hope that helps!
Ok...
Got the wireless card. That was the issue.
Now, to connect to the free wifi networks like the library and grocery store, it says I need some sort of certificate to personally identify me or something like that. Any clue? Much less how to resolve it?
Remember it's a toshiba e800 wm2003fe bt edition.
certificate
is this something I'd have to apply for or somehow make? any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm still half n00b lol

[Q] Random Freezing. HELP! Advice Needed

Hello All,
I am new to this forum. I bought my sensation about two weeks ago. When I was getting into my car one day, the phone slipped out of my shorts and fell, with the screen hitting the concrete. The screen and everything was intact, the phone was only lightly scratched.
Recently, however, my sensation has occasionally been freezing. Its strange because it does not occur in an app. It only occurs when I am scrolling through the homepages or going through the full list of apps. It usually begins working again by itself after about a minute or so. I have done a factory reset, and this problem has reoccurred, just once. The issue only occurs maybe once every few days and isnt that big of a problem. I just have a few questions.
Is this problem most likely software related? Im not sure if it only started happening after I dropped the phone, but it seems to me like this is software related?
Is there anything I can do to fix it? Will the OTA update (if tmobile does it) fix the problem?
Finally, what I am most worried about: is there any possibility (or is it likely) that my phone's condition might worsen later on down the road???
I would like to hear any advice you guys have. Is there anything other than a reset that might be able to fix the problem?

I believe it's the software (sense 3.0) Try changing your home screen. I don't get issues like this since I've changed my homescreen. Try Launcherpro or Go Launcher
do you think that dropping my phone has anything to do with it? Also, do you think it might get worse over time?
Thanks
I dont think it has to do with ur phone dropping...
The random freezes/ force closes/ re-boots seem to be a problem.. wait for the s-off and then some solid custom roms Should fix it all..

I use to think that that's a problem with phones.. but I don't think it actually does has anything to do with the phone acting up, unless it was dropped in a pool.. but otherwise, it's just the software.. sense 3.0 seems really buggy on mines.

[Q] Bad ESN Mesmerize, few questions

So I got one for $34, delivered today. Looks perfect other than a couple scuffs on the bottom corners. The seller said it was working fine (despite listing saying it was for parts/not working). I don't have any usable cell service where I live without getting a booster and antenna of some sort, so I don't care about activating it. I plan on using it basically as an internet tablet to check email, etc.
I do not have an sd card, charger, or data cable yet, they should come tomorrow. Since the battery is close to dead, I can't find out much. It turns on fine, gets to the home screen and has that "too many pattern attempts" screen (screen looks perfect, not a single scratch by the way) with the google login. I know not to try a full hard reset with the battery being about dead, but I have tried to bring up the menu option so I know how to get there when I do get it charged. I have tried every key combination method I can find with no luck, keys ~seem to all be working from what I can tell, read in the comments that a few people had no luck. One time I got that screen with the android and shovel, waiting for download. I was wondering if that is from the factory, or if that means it's been rooted?
Basically, all I really want to do is restore it to stock for right now. Maybe something better down the line, I'd just like to use it for now since I've never even really seen a smartphone before, because nobody has one with the poor cell service here. I have the EE19 build downloaded, and I see the restoring to stock thread. I want to do it the right way. So, if it has lagfix installed, I see I need to disable that. Any other things I should know about? I was just wondering if it sounds rooted, if I need to do something else if it is. I don't have a lot of time on my hands to do research, although I did a little already, and I have a very limited internet connection so I can't download a lot of things, I wasn't expecting to need to do this when I communicated with the seller.
Thanks for any advice or tips.
Edit: I was also wondering the best way to go about checking the ESN, or if I should try. Like I said, I don't care to activate it on US Cellular, but if I'd resell it or something. I know I could use PagePlus, but the Verizon tower is 30 miles away, so not much chance of that working well either. I don't think it should be stolen or anything, but was thinking if the account ever got settled or anything....
Well I got it, posting from it now. Only problem is unsuccessful download errors in app market, after download is almost complete. On wifi. I tried every solution I found for that with no success. Other than that, no problems.
Tried every fix for the market, deleting cache, changing permissions on vendor.apk, etc. Seeing it was a common problem with few solutions that work, I flashed CM7. That worked great, apps installed fine, but of course wireless cut out constantly, not usable for long. Saw that was common, tried everything with no luck. Went back to stock, then airplane mode, now market works fine. It fails whenever not in airplane mode. So I'm sticking with this for now.
Can't activate anyway, but best I saw was -104db, but mostly no service. My LG tracfone does a little better with reception.
