[Q] Is it possible to repair radio (hardware) ? - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
Well, some days ago, I decided to buy a Rhodium and sell my old Raphael, but first I had to fix the keyboard space bar who was causing trouble (had to push quiet strong to (as this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777284). So, I had an old TP who was bricked, I thought I could switch the keyboard to fix this problem.
I disassembled the TP very very slowly and carefully (2 hours to open the first housing [...]) after all was done, I reconnected the speaker (once more, 2 hours to reconnect it...). I started the phone... all was fine, keyboard ok, but radio signal no detected (may be a bad location). Well, after somes hours I thought the rom was causing trouble -> flash into shipped rom, radio included, not improvement. Updating radio to latest one... no change. Hardware problem could only cause this.
But, when I'm very very very (yes, very !) near a great signal radio, my TP can connect to the operator ! (but low signal : EDGE). Otherwise, the TP is like in Flight mode.
What have I done ? have I destroyed the radio ? I followed the dissassembling process step by step.
Ps : I switched again to my old keyboard, no changing. :/
Ps 2 : Already posted in TP hardware problems, no answer.
Ps 3 :A beer will be offer to the one who could help me.

Up.
Please, has anyone an idea ?

I finally managed to repair it myself.
Opened device several times fixed battery & phone with tape and moved the hardware. After some test I found that if I link a little piece of metal next to USB to the plastic component, phone recovered radio signal, GPS, etc.

Kaiser won't charge and sound does not work after flash new rom + radio

hello,
I flashed my kaiser yesterday with
radio : 1.70.19.09
rom : e. Abusalza - that is actually the Ultimate-X2.V10.Premium rom
Now my kaiser won't charge and the sound doesn't work anymore a
I have tryed to
- hard reset - problem still there
- flashed the radio 1.27.12.32 by micro SD flashing because my PC won't see my mobile phone - problem still there
I have given last night some resets with the stylus and because it was night I think I have accidentally pus the stylus into the charger hole and maybe I destroyed something but that is no reason for the sound to not work.
What should I do?
What is the best radio for my rom and for Romania - operator Orange
i believe you lost sound by flashing the 1.27 radio, i believe that is a wm6.0 radio only but i could be wrong, you will have to have the usb port repaired, no way around that, ive heard of people messing there ports up with their stylus before, your not the first. next question is before you started this thread, did you ask this question anywhere else?
so what radio should work correctly with WM 6.5 ? can you give me a link ?
no i have posted here first because I couldn't find any similar problems regarding both charging and sound

A 6.1 Radio please do some research before starting a new topic, the Sticky @ the top of forum holds valuable information aswell as the WIKI.
Another good place to look is people sigs who are using 6.5 in the threadz or on the Kaiser board.
Also regards charging there has been threadz where it's just been the usb port is damnaged and pulling one of teh connection terminals has fixed it.
Good luck
yeah, thanks you wore right... I flashed a new radio 1.65.20.29 and the sound works now. A strange thing is that if I put my headsets into the USB port they are working so do I still have a chance of just mismatching between the rom and the radio ?
PS: can you move my post in a section that is not in the first page so that I can still post?

Try to flash the shipped ROM for your carrier and see if the problem persists.
I can't do that. I don't even remember what rom was that because it was a Portuguese version and I didn't understand the menues so I flashed it 2h after I bought it 1 year ago.
Now I am at 10% with the battery and I can't flash anymore any other kind of rom.... but I was thinking to go to a phone shop and charge my battery just until I flash it again.
now I have 2 questions:
- does the ROM has anything to do with charging the battery (because I thought that the radio does that )
- how can I charge my battery any other way ? If i put a 5V transformator on the + and - of the battery will it charge? can I damage the battery this way ?

- answer to first question most likely not. Some roms do drain battery life quicker than others but charging is not specific to a rom.
- i haven't tried this. there is a pretty good chance you will as i don't think your phone battery has clearly labled + and - current sources. You might want to hit mike chanon up on this. "mikechanon" one word.
My feeling is that there is now damage to the usb port after pushing the stylus into it.
You say above that would not affect the sound - BUT the sound is output through the usb port and bent or crossed pins in the socket can cut off sound as well as stopping charging. This can mean that sound may still work using the headphones.
Get a magnifying glass and a strong light and examine the port. Bent pins can sometimes be straightened using a needle. Hopefully the port has not got cracked solder joints to the motherboard.
Because you have both charging and sound problems (and PC won't see mobile), I think there is a stong possibility this is a hardware not a software problem. (even if it started as a software issue)
Mike
EDIT - there is also a plastic part that can break off on some usb ports - from memory, I can check later, the Kaiser has one of these.
the reason why your usb port got damaged is probably because you stuck the stylus in it (like everyone is saying including yourself).
the reason why you accidently stuck the stylus in there is because you were constantly soft resetting your device.
the reason why you were constantly resetting your device was because you were trying different things to get the sound to work...including trying a radio which is meant for winmo6.0
the reason why you were trying a radio meant for winmo6.0 is because you didn't read the FAQ on the first page of the pda corner ultimate thread.
the reason why you are looking for a link to the suggested radio(s) is once again lack of reading the FAQ. the FAQ on the first page of that thread has links to the correct radio.
its a sad chain of events but the root cause is that you simply did not read the FAQ on the first page which clearly states which radio is recommended and has the link right there!
i hope you as well as other people new to flashing ROMs can learn from this experience and just try to start reading what is clearly written.
i hope you are able to repair the damage of the usb port. good luck!

The the sound problem is now resolved by changing the radio - the sound works now.
I will try tomorrow to see if I can do something with an magnifying glass.
10x, I will post after I'll try to repair it.
so I took a magnifier glass and you wore right one of the pins was stuck into the plastic part. I took it out and I think now it's ok.

The Touch Pro death thread - what are your experiences

I love my Touch Pro - really I do, its got all the features I want currently (except a digital compass would be good with some AR software, but that's not important roght now).
However, having got my first TP back in February I am about to send my handset back yet again as it has died again.
The first handset had a serious problem with battery drain and switching itself on (ie screen on) when not in use - I posted here about this at the time (clicky).
The o2 UK repair centre (Anovo) first of all said they'd fixed the fault, but after two weeks the phone was doing the same again - I did confirm this was not a software issue by running it ofr two weeks without any of my usuall applications on it.
So it went back again and was returned 'No Fault Found'.
At this point I demended a replacement handset. The replacement I received (a refurbished unit) had a speaker fault - crackling whenever the speaker activated, ie before a call connected and during.
That one went back as well and I ended up with an SE X1 for a while. OK but not a Touch Pro (and wouldn't run my legitimately purchased Tom Tom Nav 5 s/w). This was because o2 UK said they had no more stock of the Touch Pro and wouldn't be getting any more (why? too many problems with it?)
Eventually I got a call from o2 after numerous letters of complaint saying that they were going to exchange the SE X1 for a brand new boxed Touch Pro.
I have had this brand new replacement since August now.
About a month ago it died on me again. It just wouldn't switch on. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery resulted in the flash on the back flashing, the handset vibrating (as though it was starting up) but nothing else.
Connecting the charger resulted in the flash on the back flashing bright about every second.
A hard reset would not work at this stage.
After a couple of days I heard the 'battery low' sound from the drawer that it was stashed in. SO tried a hard reset again - nothing. Tried a hard reset again with the charger plugged in and it reset and cam back to life.
... for two weeks...
then it died again.
This time is very similar to last with theflash falshing thing, except that if I try a hard reset it seems to go through the motions but without the screen coming on (ie the vibration. The beeping sound. Click the volume down and it pings again as though its starting the reset, then about a minute later the vibration again as though its restarting after the reset). But the screen doesn't come on at all. And the lights don't light up on the front buttons or the keypad.
Unfortunately I didn't have myMobiler installed on the handset so I couldn't try connecting to it from my PC (myMobiler did try installing but as I couldn't click the 'OK' button it didn't complete).
So. Are my four deaths of the TP unique or has anyone else had similar problems with this handset?

Not I.
I have had my Touch Pro (AT&T's HTC Fuze) since December 2008 and I have not had a single real problem with it. I say "real" because I have had times when I couldn't get a GPS lock and of course the phone is slow sometimes, but that's what I've come to expect from HTC.

you need the 1.14.25.35 radio. and a different rom. maybe atts 5.11 rom if you want to still keep it stock. 1.14.25.35 is atts radio too so that stock and wont void your warranty as well.
Fuze Died Today, I Think
I've used this fuze since December of 2008 and have been quite pleased with the performance. (considering that it IS Windows) My signature radio works quite well in the mid west North America and travels well through different data protocols. Like H to Edge to GPRS and back to 3G again.
Today I flashed a new rom via usb and now it won't pass the splash screen. That flash appeared normal in all respects. Tried several hard resets (to the bootloader screen) and have tried to re-flash a different rom via micro sd card.
I've begun to think that this may be a hardware failure and would appreciate any advise for troubleshooting. Keep in mind that device will NOT connect via usb.
my screen went white a couple days ago. it would end up showing the windows logo for a while then a white screen. i hard reset a few times but nothing worked so i reloaded atts 5.11 rom and now it just stays at the "initial setup of the touchflo interface may take serveral minutes please wait" screen and wont get passed. i saw another thread about the white screen months back but i cant find it again. im just gonna wait till they have tilt2s and claim it under warranty. im gonna miss having flash, i use it to light up everything, but im sure a larger screen will make up for it.
Well I now have a bit more info on this since the phone cam eback from 'repair'on Saturday.
All they had done at the repair centre was to 'reload software' (their words, not mine). ie I guess they flashed the ROM again.
It worked for a day, though I guessed that was more coincidence than anything - after all, when this handset first did this a few weeks before it suddenly started working again a few days later.
Luckily in that time I'd remembere to install MyMobiler this time, and so when the screen died I connected to my laptop and fired up a remote view of the phone.
The screen itself was dead, but everything else seemed to be working on the phone - except that while the screen was dead I had an error displayed on screen. The error was "MicropERROR" as attached here.
So I Googled the error message, and what a shock a nice long thread on XDA-dev about it. Seems it s a fairly common problem with the Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD. Joy!
So the phone is now back with 'o2' again for another 'repair' this time with the attcahed screenshot enclosed. I have been warned again, though, that the Serra is out of stock and if they can't repir it I may have to select a substitute. As far as I am concerned there is no substitute - there is no other phone at the mo with the Touch Pro's features (hardware keyboard, VGA/WVGA screen, A-GPS, g-sensor, WinMo, runs TomTom Nav5).
I fear the worst again, and fear I'm back where I was in July with an impossible choice to make thanks to o2 UK discontinuing the Serra / Touch Pro after a few months of supplying it.

well i got my TP back in March.09 and last month i have to replace the mother board and the back speaker other than that all is good so far
but i was so frustrated with HTC support centre (which is the main one in Taiwan ) real unpleasant experience as you all may know
Cheers!
Time to send mine back
Just had an issue with my last one, it was only 5 months old and the screen started looking like it had a vertical hold issue. Just got my refurbished one in Wednesday and now it is doing the same thing after playing games on it for 5 minutes. The speaker phone is crackling too for some reason and when charging it at night it's like the screen will not fully black out. I am wondering if I even want to try another one of HTCs products or not. Nice phones but to many headaches it seems.

Thanks to help a poor noob.

[Q] touch screen and battery.

Hello again,
because in italy we say "no two without three", in 3 months i have bought 3 different HD2 with different problems. first, had red (t mobile) button hard, i had the bad idea to open this unit, now is for spare parts. second, i told you last week, has an hardware problem in RX section, seen by a Lab, and no Rdio or Om can solve my problem of signal. it 's broken, and seller says me "it starts from here Perfect".. ok, he sent me in a pizza box, may be someone thought to taste it... but from USA to Italy, i could think that could be a good idea to make a very strong packaging.. waiting for refund, so i can send back tihs item, i have bought another HD2 T-mobile, this time in Italy, used, but "perfect" and i asked before, not to have bad surprises. Arrived with WM6.5, put inside SIM, switch on, but can't unlock SIM, the touch is "sleeping". after some attempts, touch begin to run, and i can use the phone. i thought it had a bad system may be old, or a little corrupted. so, at home, task29, radio 15.50, magldr 1.13 and DFT android 2.2 with htc sense. wonderful, but when unlocking, after pressed red button, i must do it several times before touchscreen begins to work.
put on a non original battery, seems it is 1550 mAh, against 1230 of original HTC batteries. at full charge, th touchscreen stop to have problems and lock. this morning i try many times, the phone runs, but, in the afternoon, suddely locks and no way to use it. now, with 100% big battery, works almost perfect.
the question is: WHY THIS TOUCHSCREEN WORKS WELL ONLY WHEN BATTERY IS FULL? If it's damaged, no way to use it in every moment, but if with full charge, it runs, what is the problem? not software, because did the same with wM6.5. so is a little problem i can solve takin it in a lab, or is something worst, so is better if i change touchscreen? thank you.

[Q] HELP! P900 WiFi Problem

Hi All, I have P900 which I bought about 5 months now, and all the sudden the WiFi is not working as it keep switching on and off automatically (problem which similar to S4 WiFi) and off all the time. I have been doing factory reset, and flashing roms. None of them works. Now I would like to try flashing the modem module just like S4 fix, but I have no idea on where to find those files. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some lead on this, or any other ways for those who have similar problems. Please help.
Same problem (SM-P905V)
I see that this thread is really old but I am having the same problem and I can not find anything on the internet to fix this problem. I bought a refurbished note pro from amazon last September (so it is out of warranty). This is my last ditch effort to try and fix this on my own. If I can't get any help then I will just have to send it to Samsung to try and repair it.
My wifi worked just fine for all this time then about a month ago I was having problems with the bluetooth not connecting. I ignored it at the time as I was going to work on it at a later date. Then about a day or two later it started working again.
Now about a week and a half ago my wifi and bluetooth stopped working. I have factory reset but still nothing. I can get the wifi to even turn on any more. Occasionally I can get the bluetooth to work for a minute or so but 99% of the time neither one works.
I hope that someone can help me with this and I can get it resolved without having to spend a fortune.
PS If no fix then what do you suggest as a replacement? I love all the features of the note pro. I like the stylist, the screen resolution, and the multi-window features. I need a big screen for my business. I use it for a slide show at events.

Bluetooth and Wifi have many components on mainboard, repair them is beyond anyone including professionals.
My suggestion is looking for a Note Pro with broken display or woking mainboard only on Ebay; it may cost around $120, more or less depending on luck.
Take out the mainboard is quite easy, only 3 screws at two speakers, I can swap the mainboard within 10 minutes.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/401145234611?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Any SM-P900 ( wifi ) or LTE ( 905, 907 ) mainboard will fit to your existing tablet except rear camera ( LTE rear camera won't work with Wifi model mainboard ).
Since the thread is four years old, this is not really a follow up, but just a note in case anyone is having similar issues. Actually bluetooth + wifi repair on samsung tablets are possible for end user - if you are semi-lucky and broken components are not hard to replace items such as ICs. But first, be sure to rule out any OS level issue by flashing stock rom on the tablet. Then if the issue persist, then if you can locate service manual for the tablet in question, it comes with level 3 step by step instruction (and board view of components) on how to troubleshoot bluetooth + wifi hardware issues. Often the broken component is not the major IC itself, but discrete components such as capacitor, filter or resistor. In some cases issue may be fixed just by reflowing the IC itself with hot air rework station. So there is indeed good chance you can fix hardware issue with a bit of work and some cheap hot air rework station (such as 858D sold on ebay for $30 including shipping).
Ok the worst scenario is that wifi ic is bad and need to be replaced. Good news is that Samsung uses popular wifi ic, such as broadcom chip. And although it's a bga chip, it's quite small, making replacement using hot air gun possible. So will a lilttle bit of skill and luck, it's definitely possible to repair samsung phones/tablets with broken wifi hardware.
