MDA Compact, roms. - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi, been reading the site with interest.
Problem is now have a million questions on what I have read.
Sorry to be a pain !
In Essence...
1. If you upgrade ROM or do BIG Storage do you lose the unlocking bit , I had my MDA unlocked (friend did it for me) and use it with t-mobile and Orange sims (not simultaneously though!)
2. If you use Xbackup...whilst you still have your old ROM, will it work as restore with new ROM and does it save the GPRS and MMS settings ? (xbackup that is),
3. Does the Big storage just increase the actual storage bit, the bit thats 7mb at the mo ? I have tried to put most apps on mem card and at mo, have about 20mb and 18mb per side (storage and progs) on the memory meter. Is it worth doing when you have a big memory card ?

PLus.. the extent of my 'hot rodding' so far is hard reset and only installing certain progs to free up some memory. Apart from that, its been unlocked.

help about EX-ROM

Please I need some help
I want to know how to edit the EXROM and modify it and maybe remove it
Please in details and if I remove it am I going to gain more space in RAM
Another question why RAM in jam is 57 instead of 64 as they said in the commercial and in the web site
Bad English right
Hi.
First of all:
You won't get any more RAM by removing ExtROM.
It is possible to gain more "Storage" by changing amount of ExtROM. (Your device's persistent memory [ROM] is divided into "Storage" and ExtROM).
I'd recommend you, not to tamper with ExtROM too much.
The reason you see less than 64MB of RAM is simple. System uses small amount all the time. But that's not that much.
If you want your problems with memory to go away forever, just but a nice SD memory card.
Then, you should install all programs in "Storage Card", and you always have planty of RAM and ROM free.
As for 64MB of RAM... don't cry about that. If you'd have 128MB, your device would have nearly 2 times shorter battery standby time.
Notice that newer devices (especially WM2005 ones) come with 64MB RAM not 128. That's because they come with much more ROM, and try using ROM to store all data. That makes them save energy, which is neded to keep RAM alive.
Have fun.

Where to install? Main or storage memory?

Hi Guys,
I have a question..
How can i know what programs i should install to my stoarge memory, and which to install to my main memory? And whats the difference?
Im guessing that i would install important programs direct to main memory right? But because of limited space this can be tough. Heres a list of programs i use. Could someone please advise me which to install to Main memory and which to install to a storage card for max perfromance:
Skype
Netfront 3.3
Opera
Agile Messenger
MemMaid
Resco Explorer
TCPMP
Broken Sword (Game)
XCPU Scalar
Thanks for the help guys!
Which device do you have?
If it's a Windows Mobile 5 device, the performance between internal or memory card is minimal. If it's 2003se or older, then performance from memory will be far higher.
Rule of thumb for me is, what couldn't I do without if the memory card popped out and got lost. I put those apps internally.
Also something to consider (on a WM5 device) is that flash memory can only be written to a finite amout of times, so if you have an app that constantly rewrites data (such as NetFront with the cache) then I would stick that on a memory card. It's cheaper to replace a worn out card in 2 years than the whole device. Although I imagine most people on here replace their device within a year to 18 months anyway.

have I got a virus?

HTC TyTN + IGb micro SD
generally running;
SPB pocket plus 3.1.2
SPB Diary 1.7.1
Wisbar Advance 2.7.0.1
Last week I posted about memory storage v programme. After getting v confused about it i uninstalled some apps from the device and instead loaded them to memory card (was this right or wrong?). That left me with 12Mb of storage memory free, I figured that was fine and so left it at that.
This week my device reported critical memory space - storage memory down to 0.12Mb!!!
I have un installed several more apps which I like and use to get to 3.55Mb of storage memory available, but even this is dropping and I dont know why.
Q have I got a virus? How can I tell?
Q Can I tell what is taking up space in memory? If yes how? please dont direct me to the "find" large files as all it shows me is stuff on the storage card.
Q If I install programs to the storage card, do they still take up room in storage memory? If so what benefit do I get from installing to MC?
All help greatly appreciated
Pete
No such thing as a WM virus. Chances are a lot better IE cache ate it all. Try deleting cache files thru IE's menu.
You gain memory by installing to a memory card but if the card comes loose, pops out, you forget it, etc, you're suddenly without your apps. I don't install anything to the card and generally have no problem. You might want to do a search on how to put your IE cache onto the card, tho. That'll solve a lot more problems than installing apps there will.
Try TreeSize
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-treesize-v1-00-03.html
This allows you to check the memory in use on your device.
there are a few known wm virus's but never heard about anybody getting one
think they were just made to show it could be don
the market of mw phones / pda's is much too small still for virus's to find their way to devices

Memory Problem since WM6.1

Hi,
I was using Nothrills Rom 6.1 in French.
No problem at all with it or so small problem...
I've tried the new official one.
I've reverted back to original SPL.
Since then, when I go to settings memory,
I'm surprised to see only 114 Mo for storage and 84 Mo for usable ram.
As far as I know, Kaiser had 256 Mo of storage and 128 Mo of ram !
these numbers is the total available memory after a hard reset !
Where is my memory ?
I've read the wiki and didn't find this anywhere.
Help please.
Thanks

THere is 256mb of RAM yes, but there is also a OS running on your phone right! Look at it this way, when you buy a new computer with a harddrive though it might come with a 200gb hard drive, if you look at the C drive it might say 175 mb free. This is because of the software and OS on the hard drive. Same thing with phones
Now about the memory, the reason the memory changes is due to the software, and settings in the ROM. If there is a PagePool it could take anywhere from 2mb to 32mb of space. Also depending on what is on the phone it will use memory, even if you did hard reset.
Hope this helps, but trust me...install some programs and you'll see the Memory size go down. Anywhere above 20 mb is fine, actually any number is fine as long as the rom is running

[Q] Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.1 Available RAM verses Total Free

Using GUI for Darktremor Apps2SD on my phone it shows available RAM usually between 40mb and 85mb. Yet, on Total Free - it shows around 294mb of 457mb. How is this possible? I've ran the a2sd reinstall and never had any issues come back. How is this possible?
My phone is VERY snappy. Wow. Thats all I'm saying, but it does get sluggish if it drops in available memory. How do I use MORE of the total memory? Thinking maybe firerat? (this repartitions the internal memory I believe)
Any suggestions or explanations?
Its a Sprint HTC Hero. Rooted. Running aospCMod-20110322 (froyo 2.3.3). Class 6 2GB microSD card. Using Darktremor Apps2SD with swap, and cache on SD card. I am not using Froyo's native app2SD. Just the symlink used by Darktremor.
must be a GUI bug that prevents showing the real memory available. just go to settings> storage and scroll down to the phone memory row. it will show you the real memory available.
Settings > Memory Info Still shows 53 / 190
Sadly it shows me basically the same thing. Available memory / free memory. Thats my confusion. How do I get it to be 190 available memory or am I misunderstanding something.
HI, I'm new to the forums. Mostly I SEARCH & SEARCH & SEARCH again... so I don't have to ask too many questions. However, as I'm new I can't post yet other areas.
You know about 2 things that I want to ask about.
Having aps2sd (DarkTremors) how long did it take to install? You said you did the Cache which I want to do and when I did mine, it seems to have frozen? I reverted back to my backup. It's my public phone and I need it working. Though I could toss the 'sim' back in the old phone I replaced.
I got to test the effectiveness of a Back up which was quite fast. (That's why I'm wondering? Why it was taking so long?)
SO, how long does it take to install aps2sd (Including letting it do it's thing and creat links? 20 30 40 min?)
I've got a Class4 32gb card.
My other question is about the setup of the GUI. Just install the .apk or do I need to do any tweeking to get it functional with the script?
Hope to get a reply here. Thanks in advance. OH, in case it helps, I'm running an Xperia Mini Pro. I did consider waiting for the Xperia Pro but decided I wanted the compactness... it's a nice
daily user and good pocket size.
OH, and of course great price...
