Dutch T Mobile MDA compact : Upgrade gives only error codes - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi everybody,
Tried the search instrument all night (even google) but there is something wrong with my mda compact or with me (or both)
I followed the instructions by nemesis and others;
Hmm lads, lets all get back on track I have covered this in previous posts
I recently upgraded a colleagues MDA compact (an untouched TMobile 101 build) with the 112_172 build its actually the Orange MDA build from Holland. But very good.
Bear in mind keep your programs that you installed handy as you will need to re-install them .
- Extract the shipped ROM.exe files to a folder for instance MDA112, this will leave 6-8 files in the folder with radio.nb1 etc. This can be done by WinRAR or WinZip
- Connect to ftp site ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/
- Copy the MA_upgrade_NoID file from the ftp site (Tools folder) to the MDA folder on your PC/Laptop
- Plug in USB connector to MDA
- Backup your relevant contacts etc
- Disable ActiveSync USB connections
- Go to bootloader mode Camera-Power-SoftReset All 3 actions together, USB will be displayed , very faint, on the MDA screen
- VERY important: Run the MDA UpgradeNOID.exe file(this will ignore country code errors that you will receive normally) in the MDA folder you created and deposited the extracted files from the ROM image
- wait 20-30 minutes and
- hey presto you have a new ROM on the MDA.
- re-enable ActiveSync USB connections
but i get get the error code 150 over and over. About four roms ive tries wich were mentioned in the fora but :-(
I tried it with renaming the UpgradeNOID.exe file and starting with the original upgradetool but it seems to go wrong all the time..
please help or give me a tip

Check out the post by JoelWu . I personally have never seen this error code

ActiveSync: Can I extract files from backup.stg on my PC?

hello world.
After O2 has exchanged my XDA2 twice and I always got a 1.66 version device, which does not accept restoring my ActiveSync backup, I made with a 1.60 version device, I decided to return my XDA2. I'm fed up with the XDA2 - it's buggy and O2 Germany is overcharged with my problem descriptions.
So now I still have the backup file (backup.stg) on my PC and I would like to open it somehow to extract some of the containing files.
Does anyone have an idea how to open? I already tried WinRAR, but it doesn't recognize any major compression type.
Thank you for your answers in advance.

Thanks a lot - I tried the search, but since I looked for "backup.stg" I didn't find the right thread.
Try this ***FREE*** utility:

It worked for me!

UK T-Mobile MDA Compact - ROM Upgrade

I've read through a few threads/posts and think I've figured out what I need to do. Would appreciate someone telling me I'm on the right track.
What I've got:
UK T-Mobile MDA Compact
ROM 1.01.00 WWE
Radio 1.00.10
Ext ROM 1.01.128 WWE
What I want to do:
Upgrade to latest, safest ROM without destroying GPRS and other connectivity (or anything really)
Not end up with a doorstop
Upgrade using USB
What I've downloaded:
WWE_11200_128_11210_ship (seems a nice safe ROM)
What I'm going to do:
- connect via USB
- connect power (or is the USB power ok by itself?)
- run the exe file
- watch it upgrade....
So - is that it? Or do I still have to do all the other things (overwriting bytes, extracting, etc, etc).
And will T-Mobile still talk to me....? Or more to the point - can I restore the existing ROM (I think there's a ROM backup utility on the FTP site)?
Thanks in advance (and try not to mutter 'dumb newbie' too often).
Cheers
Andrew

You can login using a ftp-client program like cuteftp or something like that. With the following settings:
server: xda-developers.com
user xda
password: xda
port: 21
Or you can login using a FTP-capable browser like IExplorer. Then u use:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/Shipped_ROMS/
Hope this helps...

Sadly it didn't
When I tried the using the browser I got this;
ftp://xda-developers.com/Magician/Shipped_ROMS/
FTP Folder Error
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.
Details:
The FTP session was terminated
OK
:?:
You've got to give more info on your situation. What browser are you using? Dit you type "ftp://xda:[email protected]" instead of "ftp://xda-....." ? Do you use a firewall (from windows)? etc. etc.
It's not a problem of the server. It's up. I logged in using IExplorer just a minute ago.
If nothing works, just use a ftp-client.

I just clicked on the links shown in this thread. Haven't typed anything!
I have problems with the FTP also.
I can access it with FlashFXP but I cannot download anything.
It will stop after 108kb...
The server is a little bit slow sometimes (this is the best place for all the xda stuff  )
Connection problems can occur when u use a router for your internet connection. If so, make sure you open and forward the ports (21 and 20 ) for FTP to your PC in the router management. Make also sure that your firewall opens these ports.
Furthermore it's better to enter the settings manually in the FTP-client program.

This thread appears to have become a 'how to access the ftp site'.
I am also trying to put together in my head at least the best way to upgrade my rom, which is more or less the same as yours!
I did manage to down load the lastest rom and unpacked it, but which exe file are you talking about?
The method that seem to stick for me, is to copy the nb1 file on to a sd card, going to boot mode, etc, etc.
But I am worried about do something to my sd card in the process!

i am getting all kind of annoying messages about ruu dll not found...what is this and where do i find it?
solved but now i have the rom upgrade utility error 150...
anyone ?
I too am getting the "rom upgrade utility error 150" after carefully following the instructions for upgarding a T-mobile phone from the same ROM version.
I am wondering whether it is necessary to follow some kind of installation path? What I mean is, maybe it is not possible to jump from the shipped ROM (1.01) to the latest version.
Might need to stagger the upgade?
Did yourworldanywhere have any luck with his upgrade, cos that was the exact same install that I am trying.
Cheers

Can'tinstall ROM on my Jam....

Hi all!
I've an Italian version on i-mate Jam and I'd like to install the last English version of the ROM.
I'm trying with the wwe (worldwide English) ROM but seems to doesn't work with my device...
S.O.S!!! Smile
Hello
There are numerous posts on this problem.
Quick extract on the matter from JoelWu as you may get Error 150 Codes
1. Right click on the downloaded Rom EXE-file and extract to a named folder (using Winzip or something similiar)
2. You should end up with about 6 - 8 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and maupgradeut, the maupgradeut is the file that runs the upgrade
3. Download the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
4. Once you have this file you will need to add this to the folder created above as this is the file needed to initiate the upgrade.
5. In ActiveSync, go to option -> Schedule, Set it to Manual, this is to make the PPC USB connection to ActiveSync active but don't do any Sync with your PC and PPC during the upgrade process.
6. Connect the phone to the USB, manually sync once. From now onwards, the step is the same.
-----
7. Now run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
8. The upgrade Wizard will start, go through a few checks then eventually come up with the country Id error.
9. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file again and this time it should allow you to run the Wizard.
10. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 10 - 15 minutes.
11. When finished you should get the upgrade successful notification and a prompt to reset the device
12. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and tick the USB connection.
Many thanks!
I'll try it asap!
Last questions:
if I install the WWE ROM as you told me... the next ROM upgrade it will be possible by the normal exe way or all the WWE ROM need that workaround?
If I install the WWE ROM using the way you told me... Can I came back to install the Italian version of the ROM? Using the normal way (.exe) or... ?
I dont no.. im trying 2 update my Magician for the second time i will post my result first i try with official .exe. if it dont works i use the cracked...
Nope still Country ID error
Thanks!
IT WORKS!!!!
well... now I've got English ROM on my jam but 2 problems:
- On my old Italian ROM there was an antivirus application installed as default. On English ROM there isn't!!! :-(
Any suggestion to download the antivirus? Is it necessary in your opinion?
- Now, when I'm typing with the std keyboard the Jam suggest me the English words... (obviusly!)
Can I configure the Jam to sugget me the Italian words or the WWE have only English vocabolary inside?
- Wat's the differences fro WWE ROM and US ROM or UK ROM? I'm Italian... waht's the best English ROM for me?
WWE is fine for you. The US and UK roms only have settings for that countries' phone providers in the Extended Rom. Since you're not in either of those countries you can just stick with WWE.

if your rom crashed and your devise still in eboot page and waiting for downloading disk image now you gona give it
but a little problem....you need another of any kind ppc that just activesync can recognize it..any wm or hd .....
and also you need ollydbg software.its a debuger.....
steps
0) run ollydbg and load the rom upgrade file in ollydbg
1) plug the healthy ppc to your desktop via usb activesync v4.5
2) make a text file in your desktop and name it DeviceSpy and set it attribte to read only
2) transfer it to \windows dir in healthy ppc...
4) change the suffix from .txt to .exe by resco explorer or any other file explorer now you have DeviceSpy.exe
check it attribute and be sure its readonly...
5) press f9 and zinc upgrader will run...it suppose to installer ignore the differ
6) tap all ok or next buttons and in dialogbox with update button beware
7) most important section : tap update button and eminently click on ollydbg title bar to make it active window
and watch the activesync icone .it quickly will chang and make activesynk disconnect and you have to hear
a notification tone and ppc will restart...
8) quickly press f12 to break ollydbg process then unplug healthy ppc and plug your zinc and wait for notification tone
9) press f9 and enjoy the new rom....
that healthy ppc is still healthy but your dead zinc now is alive...
Click to collapse
But not success.
Now my Zinc is in black screen and red light when I connect to PC.
Can anyone help me ? My Zinc is dead. (
do not use olydb
just when the healthy ppc restarted replace it with zick quickly.
use a dos app instead of text file and rename it to devicespy.exe with readonly
attre..
What if I dont have another PPC???
I am going thru the very same problem...
What if I do not have another healthy PPC???
Also, will the settings be the same if I am using a Windows Mobile Device Center rather than a ActiveSync 4.5???
Please help me out with this Zinc issue!!!!

Lost data recovery

Hi all,
During synchronising my HTC Hermes 300 (T-mobile MDA Vario II) with PC I lost an important excel file. The empty folder on the laptop overwrote the PDA.
Is there any possibility to recover this file?
1. Is there any PPC recovery software for this?
2. Is there any software that makes it possible to see my PDA as a drive? (own memory of the PDA, not the extended memory card.) This would also help as I could use the recovery software on my PC and check the PDA as I check a drive.
thanks
you can use nueMassStorage and scan your rom using Active Recovery 7
Thanks for your quick reply. I try to do it but I have got a small problem with using nueMassStorage When I install it, USB - PC disappears from Start - Setting - Connection, so I cannot set it to MassStorage.
I restarted the PDA many times, but nothing changed. After removing MassStorage, USB - PC comes back.
How to go on?
