ActiveSync: Can I extract files from backup.stg on my PC? - General Topics

hello world.
After O2 has exchanged my XDA2 twice and I always got a 1.66 version device, which does not accept restoring my ActiveSync backup, I made with a 1.60 version device, I decided to return my XDA2. I'm fed up with the XDA2 - it's buggy and O2 Germany is overcharged with my problem descriptions.
So now I still have the backup file (backup.stg) on my PC and I would like to open it somehow to extract some of the containing files.
Does anyone have an idea how to open? I already tried WinRAR, but it doesn't recognize any major compression type.
Thank you for your answers in advance.

Thanks a lot - I tried the search, but since I looked for "backup.stg" I didn't find the right thread.

Try this ***FREE*** utility:

It worked for me!

COUNTRY ID error??

I tried to install the following ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22591&highlight=ftp+site
I did everything like the instruction said but after a few seconds of collecting data from my MDA, the program on the pc said "Country error 120".
What now? I'm trying to make my german MDA compact into an english one.
-John
This problem has been posted many times on this forum...
Anyway replace the 'ROMUpgradeUt' with 'MAUpgradeUt_noID' available here:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Magician/Tools
Also don't forget to disable the USB connection by right clicking ActiveSync and unchecking the box.
Disable USB? But if I disable the USB how can upload the ROM files to my MDA? I use a USB connection to connect the MDA to my pc.
-John
Trust me it will work- I only did it yesterday to upgrade my mates ROM to 1.12.
He tried to do it himself but it didn't work. When I did it, the only thing I did different was to disable the USB in Active Sync.
Try it and see if it works... its takes about 20 mins to perform the whole thing.
Not sure if I`m missing something but everytime I attempt to connect to the ftp server above (since I`ve got the same problem) I get "access denied" when I connect via ftp.

Click to collapse
Make sure you change the login credentials in Internet Explorer; when you get the access denied message go to File> Login As and change the username xda and password to xda.
If that still doesn't work, use a FTP client software package- some people have reported to have problems with FTP when accessed through Internet Explorer.

Ummm... where do I put this file? I'm trying to run the exe file called "o2asia_11100_922_11100_ship" with the instructions I got from the link I posted on my first post.
I opened the exe file "o2asia_11100_922_11100_ship" with winzip just to see it's content and it has the "ROMUpgradeUt" file but if I replace it and try to run the exe I don't think it will work as the installer is looking for the original "ROMUpgradeUt" and not "MAUpgradeUt_noID".
That's why I wanted clear instructions because I really don't have a *** clue what I'm doing and I really really REALLY can't use the internet now very much as I can only visit off-work sites at my coffee breaks.
So please, help me, I have all the files now but I don't know what to do with them!
-John
Can't get it to work. Here's what I did:
Extracted all the files from "WWE_11200_128_11210_ship" into d:\mda
Did everything as stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14973
But doesn't work. I does upgrade, but the upgrade takes like 10 seconds, then it says to cold boot the mda and after a cold boot it is back in German language.
What am I doing wrong? The .bat file I made does some changes and I am doing everything like the instructions say but something must be wrong here. Please help.
-John
Works now, well at least it is now upgrading so something must be rigt... now I just have to wait
And to contribute and help other newbies - The BEST instructions (in my opinion) are those from "NemesisDE" in this thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14973&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75
See pages 4 and 5. Read the instructions on page 4 and then see page 5 for further info = where to download the large rom file as it's been moved and also get the MaUpgradeUt_noID.
To clarify: After you have the ROM (I used WWE_11200_128_11210_ship), download also MaUpgradeUt_noID.
Then you can proceed with NemesisDE's instructions, they are VERY good. I had no problems converting my german MDA compact into english.
Now this is the type of information I should've gotten yesterday... but now it works, I'm happy.

Pvplayer-for XDA mini?

I have my device from O2, so got no pvplayer on it.Download from 'pvplayer.com'-is not possible because is a copyrighted file that Orange devices include. So how to get it?I hope somone got an idea because i really need it.I think there is a version for Pc too!
I remember a thread a while ago that was discussing how to avoid installing these "first boot" progs, it mentioned that you reset the handset at a certain point through the setup, the handset then wont install the cabs and it will just leave them in the memory somewhere, I need to find someone who has / is prepared (M500 for example) to do this and copy the .cabs to a computer who could send me the right cab, and hey presto.
Thanks...

Intent MIDP manager problems

Hi! I have a T-Mobile SDA and I deleted some files which were under Application Data -> TAO. I have an I-mate ROM installed (2.6 something)
Needless to say, the Java midlets i had installed (Opera mini and Gmail) do not work anymore. What's worse is that I cant reinstall them. Every time i try to, I get an error message (invalid java archive).
Any ideas besides hard reseting the phone? Maybe someone can email me the folder on their phone?
Many thanks!
I've got an Imate Rom on my tmobile sda as well, let me know what files you need . . . or which ones you have so I can send the others.
I am using an Orange C600 ROM on my Vodafone V1240, i guess it has the same files on that folder, try this attched file..
I have this same frickin problem with a stock SDA. THE TAO manager blows hard

No more phone after WM6 upgrade

Hello,
I have just upgraded my treo750v with 2.27. I have strictly followed the process and everything goes well even replications.
The only issue is the fact that I can't activate anymore my phone. When I try, device tells me : "A problem has occured with device.exe / please tell Microsoft about this problem....".
Other issue is that when I want to recover following your process, I find the folder but there is no T750URT.exe nor any other file.
Hereafter my configuration :
Windows XP SP2
Activsync 4.5.0 build 5096
phone id : Can't give as each time I want to get it, I have the waiting icon then "A problem has occured with device.exe / please tell Microsoft about this problem...."
Memory free : 36MB
Can you someone help me ? Even send tell me how to get a former SW with WM5.
Thanks in advance,
perform the upgrade again using the SD version (or extracted cheeimg_fw.nbh from updater) and KaiserCustomRUU.exe (search for file and how-to).
Then run UpdInfo.CAB (extracted from updater) to set version to 2.27
Hi,
Tks for the steps
For SD update it is OK.
I can't find anything clear enough for Kaisercustommruu.exe.
Issue solved
In fact, issue was coming from a wrong installation. I consequently unzip the download file (treo 750.....device installer) with winzip (can also with winrar) then launch T750URT.exe.
The recovery tool launch a new instal and everything goes well now.
In all cases, tks for your help and this great forum which teaches me a lot of things on my Treo 750.
Excellent, glad you figured it out!
The gist with KRUU.exe is to rename the file from "cheeimg" to "RUU_signed"

HTC DataBackup 3.10 dbk file cannot be restored

Hi all, long time since my last visit.
The problem for me is I cannot get my pim from a backup .dbk made with HTC DataBackup 3.10
This is complicated because I MUST get a lost contact. I made this dbk file inside an imate JASJAR the past year, this pda was of my past work, and since I'm not working anymore there, I left the laptop and PDA given to me.
Because of this, I cannot obtain from outlook sync, when I get fired I just made that backup in 3 minutes (it finished I'm sure) on my own SD card. Then I did a Hard reset to the PDA and a factory system restore to the laptop (on that time I don't had my own pc).
I hope there is some program to restore the contacts, I tried using the WM6 emulator without success using the restore function in HTC DataBackup, actually I don't have a PDA.
I opened the dbk file in Hex Editor and I can read some strings in ASCII, but most of the content seems like coded or encripted (compressed???) so I cannot get the information on this way.
Please, some one help me, it is really urgent for me to get this contact!!!
Thanks in the advance, and sorry for the bad english.
Regards...
