Thinking of upgrading to TT5 on an XDA2i? Then Think again.. - General Topics

I am close to seeing if my XDA2i and TT5.10 can swim better than it navigate without locking up . . .
I installed the corporate version when hard reset, and performed a clean install of version 5.10 as requested by the tom tom support team.
TT5.10 works like a dream . . .. if you dont get a phone call (locks up) or dont get a text message (locks up) dont want a traffic update (locks up) - in fact it probably works best if you do not switch it on . . .
After 10 updates to my online question, because getting to play a round of golf with the President is easier than speaking with anyone at tomtom, they replied . . .
"Thanks for the feedback. The issues that you mention should have been resolved with the update to version 5.10. I'll contact our technical team about this, and will get back to you." (yeah, right)
Thanks for the feed back? THANKS?? Maybe it should be us XDA2i users thanking TT for wasting our time getting lost because their update is more premature than me sharing a bed with a supermodel.
I contacted O2, because when someone calls me on my trusty XDA2i (locking up TT) the phone line is totally dead when I answer.
O2 said . . .
"The XDA2i has an upgrade due for release very shortly. We haven’t been given a set date yet, but I would suggest checking the website each day for the update - www.my-xda.com
Hopefully their new ROM will sort this issue . . . TomTom clearly not tested TT5 on an allegedly supported device . . .
Incidently when I ask TT to unlock my old TT3 code (because TT3 actually worked and I want to re-install it) they said . . .
"Unfortunately we can't unblock your Product Code for Navigator 3 at the moment, as this was code was blocked when you ordered the Upgrade"
If any one has any solutions, or a sledge hammer, I be very grateful

Hi there, im currently using TT5 with hardly any problems(im using i-mate ROM) but there are a few that may cause it.
Firstly the SD card has caused alot of problems for people, i use a 1gig card and it is the cause of most of my problems.
However i think the root of the many problems the 2i has is ... The ROM.
As O2 say they are releasing a new ROM soon and i can bet this will sort alot of the problems your having right now.
in the mean time you should think about installing the i-mate ROM which has made my XDA2i more stable.

I have an XDA 2i & can use Tom Tom 5 wiithout a problem, bearing in mind it is version 5.0. I haven't experiencd these problems you have mentioned.
My first XDA2i did play up (freezing up at random times!), after a quick call to O2, they replaced the unit & so far I haven't had the same problems. I just put it down to a glitch in the system.
I am however interested in upgrading the ROM as my version is the same as yours & from what I have read on this website, it seems that people find it worthwhile upgrading their ROMs to iron out the glitches. But is it safe to use upgrades meant for other devices?

I'm also using TTN5 without a problem, version 5.0 with the patch I posted here, before applying that patch it would crash fairly regularily, now however it's fine.

I have had problems when using a 1gig card on my XDA2i. It seems that any gsm/gprs activity causes the SD card to disconnect, thus freezing/locking up the phone, especially in TOMTOM. If I switch cards to a 512mb or 256mb the card does not disconnect and everything is fine. I had problems with the phone locking up whilst navigating and a call coming in, whis was with tomtom 3.07. Moving to tomtom5 cured all of this. I'd definately say it's a ROM problem with the XDA2i as my 1gb card will without fail disconnect when I switch on GPRS.
roll on ROM update....

I am running the i-mate 1.11 ROM and I have hardly any problems compared to when I was running the O2 1.10 ROM.
Rarely the phone will lock up when I hang up a call, and sometimes GPRS will fail to reconnect after a call, but in general it is *very* stable compared to 1.10.
WM2005 on the XDA2 has been perfectly stable for me, but alas, I sold it last week, and am now stuck with a more buggy device/os.

I upgraded to the imate 1.11 rom and now my bluetooth head set disconnects when the unit powers off. A call will come in and i have no headset icon. This worked fine under the O2 UK rom
Any ideas ????????? :? :?

yeah i tried the i-mate rom as well and was no good on my xda2i kept freezing the pda after i exited tomtom
i don't think it is the sd cards either that is causeing this as i have been though 3 cards already and there was never any difference allways locked up ..BUT the best i ever got was a clean install then using tomtoom updated traffiffic fine and the whole i did it about 10 times but as soon as it hit the gps cable thats when it all froze on me

I haven't experienced either of those problems with the 1.11 rom, and I use TomTom 5 (well, 5.10 now) and a Jabra BT800 headset all the time.
So many of the issues really are random.

rom update for o2xda2s

so is there a fully functioning rom update for the xda2s as of yet, or are there still problems and glitches for bluetooth?
Have a search in the BA forums, there are several threads. It still has issues, but it is a little better. Avoid O2 active, do a corporate install instead (does not give you the o2 active stuff) or, soft reset b4 O2 active tries to install. Upgrade to build 3900 bluetooth manually afterwards (available on FTP site).

Since installing the BT patch on my XDAIIs, I've had no problems with Bluetooth whatsoever.
All of my old problems seem to have been sorted.
great thanx a lot you guys, im going to try this right now

XDA2i and tomtom 5

i've installed my new version of tt and having slight problems already
my first trip went fine but got to use it today for a propper run ,
at first everything went fine that is until a phone call then it started freezing after mile and had to do many hard resets to get it working again ,in th eend i had to put it into flight mode to get it to work properly
does anyone know how to over come this in any way ..i know tt5 is new but i use my pda for updating traffic and recieving of calls
thans
Heard there are issues with this andy, it seems xda2i doesn't like a headset plus something else with bluetooth running at the same time.

On the Tom Tom website it says version 5 is "available soon", and you already have it? How can that be?
got the upgrade pack mate, came in the post on thursday.
Where did you get it from then? I can't buy it from the Tom Tom website, because it just says "available soon".
Or is that just the software upgrade?
Then again, if the software is ready, the whole package should be available too, including the GPS device. Where do I get it?
No Idea, i found the webpage on the tom tom website for the upgrade and got it that way.
Don't know why the whole package is not avalable yet, have you checked other pda shops on the web to see if any?
TT% upgrade
Log out and re-log in on the main tom tom page, and it should appear for you...
Not too impressed with TT5 so far, but only loaded it last night
(TT Wired GPS for my car and oter Bluetooth GPS for when I'm not...)
TT5 and bluetooth.
Forgot to mention, I got in my car and had previously been using my BT GPS. XDA connected to BT car kit no worries, then I plugged in wired GPS - selected this GPS and TT5 turned BlueTooth off.... thanks Tom Tom, so I had to turn it back on for my car kit connection..
Pain in the butt..
What should appear?

Hi all,

bugger!!! I have just bought an XDAIIi and installed 3.07 last week. It worked great until (as bluebotel has said in another thread) you go into another cell and the phone communicayes with the mast, then it locks up. I have tested tomtom 3.07 with the phone off, on, making a call with the GPS plug in and not plug in. Basically if the phone has to do something (call, change cell) and the GPS is plugged in, tomtom freezes. If you run tomtom but do not have the GPS plugged in (i.e. tomtom isnt actually navigating) then tomtom doesn't lock up when the phoned is used, so its obviously the GPS reciever, coupled with tomtom that buggering it up!!
Not sure what to do now, do i send the xda back, get different software or will there be a fix. I was going to try tomtom5, but looks like it suffers the same problem!! What a bag of crap!!!!
Does anyonbe know if it works with XDAIIs or XDAIII???
Hi all,
After receiving my Tomtom navigator 5 yesterday, I managed to drive to work this morning (Approx 20miles) without a lockup with the Phone ON!
We shall see how it performs whilst I use it. Upto now it seems a well worth product upgrade. In fact the thing that impresses me the most is the frame rate of the Navigator View. Its so smooth I could be playing a game. No screen jerks.
The whole software seems faster and fluent with integrated menus and web content. If the XDA2i doesn't lock up like it did on tomtom 3 then I will be more than pleased.
I'll keep you posted
Cheers
Lee
sounds promising!!!
If you go to the product section of Tomtom site it says the i is suported, but if you go to the support pages, it doesn't appear on the list!!!
I have a cracked copy of 5 to test before i buy it, but can't get it to inmstal
It didn't take me long to find how to make it freeze!
With the phone on it seems to be ok, still needs more testing, however; when you try to download traffic or weather updates using the GPRS, it freezes everytime.
So basically don't download updates or even have GPRS on in the background!
I'm still unsure if the phone causes it to freeze, its looking like it may do yet I haven't seem it do that yet only the GPRS connection.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

What a bag of cak!!
Just installed 5 and went to play in the car, but i can't get the GPS reciever to connect. I am using a holux cr100 cradle (wired), i select "other wired" and it just sits there searching, saying "no gps device". It worked fine on TT3

This is the same issue that I have with TT5...though if you perform the traffic update whilst connected to your PC instead, the update works fine and doesn't crash. It seems that the data is downloaded but then it can't update it into TT. If you wait a few mins, then tap the screen you get a slow menu, go to the TT traffic bit and it says "last updated 0 mins ago", so something is happening.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this as this is the one thing that is currently hacking me off about TT5...everything else works fine.
Cheers

*cough* BitTorrent *cough*
People who bought TT3 were sent out TT5 via CD recently.
I have had the same problem with the BT GPS. What I do is go into the menu and tap on GPS status. Magically the GPS starts to work and it shows all the fixes.
From then on wards it works fine other than the lockup when using GPRS to update Traffic.
Cheers

TOMTOM Navigator 5

Got new version still freezing on XDA2i second phone.
Also notice a lot of streets are missingfrom Version 5 that are on TT3 as I
Contacted TOM TOM told me that they must be new roads. I INFORM THEM THAT THEY WERE MORE THAT 100 YERAS OLD. Thank God for A to Z
o2 have inform me that ther is a soft ware problum for the XDA2i and should be out soon but then I have been told that for the last 3 months if any one wants phone number for 02 it is 01133881624 as they told me that they have not had many complaints may be we should bombard the phone line and then they may relise there is a big problum
Also see that in this month PDA magazine they give XDA2i a 85% rating
i have emailed them got a reply today of all days
85% is a rather good rating ,maybe things will look up with tomtom as i for 1 am getting tired of flight mode as i keep forgetting to undo it when i stop ,
as i use it all the time even when i know where i am going ,stupid i know but on few occations it has come in use when i see a traffic jam
Same here miss a lot of call why in flight mode so have to stop never now and then just to check mail box
Crashing TT5
For all you guys that have TT5 that is crashing while in use.
I've read a solution somewhere that might work (haven't tried it myself):
1. remove the TT5 Bluetooth manager
2. Start Bluetooth prior to TT5
3. Start TT5.
Try it and post your results.....
Do not use bluetooth got wired GPS
yeah same here use wired gps
got an email from o2 they are working on getting the o2 compatable but at the moment it is up to tomtom ,soooo hopefully the rom update will work .....and why it is so late ...but we can only live in hope

MS Voice Command not working..for many of us..

I'm having this problem and have seen several others with same. When trying to use VC, get the "..have encountered a problem, try restarting" error. I fixed this problem with registry corrections before but the required Keys are not setup when installing under WM5 or lower. Just having this problem with WM6 (reloaded 1.7.1). Any ideas?

What else do you have loaded on your phone(s) that have this issue. I use VC on all WM6 and WM5 roms that I've run (and ones I've cooked, like the Crossbow Reloaded ones you mentioned) and have never had this error and I've never tweaked around registry settings. I just install the cab and it works...
Are you installing VC 1.6 US?
With all the WM6 roms i've used (not as many as some but i'm new here) I haven't had an issue with VC 1.6 US either.
don't think it's a definite answer, but i did have this problem in the past when i installed voice command on my memory card rather than on phone memory. sometimes during loadup after a soft reset i would get that error...think it's because it takes longer to load from the card and voice command is setup to run right away (always in the background)...
if it's installed on the phone memory...dunno...sorry
I run VC 1.6 US and have never had a problem with it. I always install it in main memory.
I give..
Going back to WM5 Molski. To answer some of the post..
It's VC 1.6
No other software loaded..Fresh flash.
Installed to device, not storage *only option offered for install location*.
Get a message during device install: (...recommend installing to main memory. Do you still want to install to "."...) I answer Yes because it just aborts install to say No.
Thanks for the replies guys..
<--[Totally Screwed]
OK, now I have no sound from the speakers and Mic not working. While in Phone mode, the speaker button stays in the On position and won't turn off. Got the old Voice Command registry settings in place but it seems the new problem is the culprit. Going to start a new thread with new problem unless someone has any ideas..
Closing out
Back up and functioning on Molski 3.3 Crossbow. From what I can tell, during the WM 6 load, the speaker phone option became stuck in the On position but the speakers and Mic were not functioning. Voice Command seemed to know there was a problem and gave the "..restart VC.." message. After re-flashing Molski (a few times, still no joy), I flashed with the wired earbud/Mic connected. After flash and phone restart, I removed the headset while in phone mode. Speaker button reset to normal, phone speakers/mic started working again. Reloaded Voice Command and all worked.
aaahh the joys of PDAdome.. Where else can you get the thrill of accomplishment by getting back to the same friggin place
Thanks again for the replies all..
I have actually had this error a LOT with various ROMS, all were based on the Faria real thing base I believe. I'm not sure if that's relevant or not. At first it would just pop up randomly. Sometimes I could restart it and it would be fine, others it would never restart until I soft reset. The errors tended to get more and more frequent until it finally stopped working completely. Even on a reset it would come up right away. I hard reset that particular rom and it was fine for awhile but the issue returned and much more quickly. I never really installed any software onto the phone that ran in the background so I'm really at a loss as to what causes it. The last couple of ROMs I used didn't have VC and I never bothered to reinstall it because it kept having errors anyways. I am about to reflash yet again so I guess I'll put it in if it's not already there and see how it goes.
Give Molski a try..

I didn't have any problems with his roms (..and went back to it with no probs). Only started having problems after I tried the Faria WM6. If the Molski works for you let me know. We'll give Faria a nudge.. Good Luck!
VC issues I've run across
I've tried pretty much every WM6 rom out there.... and cooked some of my own using the Pandora Kitchen.... and it seems that VC 1.6 decides to ignore my bluetooth activation button on some roms... all incoming calls and texts and reminders get announced as expected and the handsfree works great, but I can't push the headset button and get VC to wakeup.... Tried disabling VC and then re-enabling it, repairing the bluetooth, removing and then readding VC... nothing would fix it.... reflash with a different rom and presto! VC works!
At one point I had a strange issue with the bluetooth microphone.... VC would work fine (I'd ask "what time is it" and it would tell me the time) but when I was in a call, no one could here me.... I ended up enabling and then disabling auto gain control... wallah, mic works again.... weirdness.... (don't think this was rom related)
Anyway... the roms that I've had this problem with was XDA Mobile 6 (release 1... relase 2 is kicking a$$) and I think NBD 7.1... never had a problem with a ny Pandora cooked roms.....
Anyway... my $.02... (I'll probably get change)
kudo's to the rom wizards that be...
never had a problem. Installed in a few different roms. works fine
installed to main memory.

Reboot issues
Has anyone been able to sort out the reboot issues?
I have it working in landscape now problems. Except when it is in the actual navigation mode, it reboots the phone.
If there is no nav, just the map, no problem.
Thanks for your help guys.
Reboot issue with iGo on HD2
I had the irritating problem of freezing when starting ANY navigation software. And to be more exact, when the software achieves a satellite fix!!
I noticed that the lower part of the phone warms up everytime, and it helped to extend the duration of navigation software by putting it against the air condition of the car. But this was not enough, because iGo worked only for 5 minutes at best, after which I had to pull the battery and WAIT for a couple of minutes before inserting it again and restart the phone.
It's really hot in Egypt at this time of the year. So, this meant that the HD2 is permanently and completely crippled when it comes to GPS software.
So, I moved to SD android, which had the same problem. The phone also froze when it connected to to GPRS on Android after some time (about 5 minutes without cooling).
The next logic step was flashing a NAND android, hoping that the probelm was in WM6.5.3 itself. Surprisingly, the Android NAND had the same problem!!!
I finally discovered the ultimate solution; UNDER-CLOCK your CPU! since then I could use CoPilot on android for as long as I want.
Now, I'm moving back to WM and going to under-clock the CPU to see if this will work.
please let me know if this helps you..
BTW, I noticed that this restart issues with GPS software was somewhat common with HD2 esp in hot weather, but I think this is the first time somebody (that'll be me!!) comes out with a solution. So, I'm really looking to replicate it and test it.

I used hd2 (wm 6.5.5)+TomTom last summer in Sardinia (not as hot as Egypt .. but driving hours under the sun in a car with black leather interior is quiet the same ) and never had any lags or device over heating.
maybe iGo for WM is buggy
I have never had those issues.
I have been using TomTom for over 12 months, I switched to iGo and it was perfect. I then run iGo Primo and it also works with maps on only.
When I use the voice navigation, thats when it reboots. This tells me it's not an overheating issue, but a config or voices problem.
Other people using it in Italy don't have the problem. I assume I need to find other English voice files.
igo8 without bug on winmo
hi,
personally i am using this version ( Nav N Go iGo8 Revision 3
V 8.3.4.102680 - August 13 2009 )
you can download it from
david2131.com
or from google torrents search
the size is about 44mb without maps
i use it for one year and it has no bug for me and its not slow.
N.B : format your sd card (1 or 2 gb) and install IGO8 on it before installing anything, its very important to do this step for a 100% success.
you don't have to install nothing, it's just copy paste, and works like charm.

I had a same problem and do the tricks same as you do.
At first time for about week or two under clock do the job, but after some time situation goes worse and worse. After problem with GPS, there were problems with WIFI and Youtube clips, after that situation came little bit worse because i didn't even make a call without restart or freeze.
And at all times lower part of phone goes warmer and warmer. I bring it to service and they told me that they know for that bug for HTC HD2 and it`s a usual problem. They changed mother board and now phone work like a charm without this problems and it`s a cold always.
