Just purchased a new O2 Atom and notice when I turn the device on (dosn't have to be calling or talking to anyone) that there is a high pitch noise coming from the speaker.
This device has the latest fireware 20060123B1WWE.
I would like to try to reinstall the firmware but because it is only new I can register it until my 7 Days are up. Is there somewhere that I can get a copy of the firmware for Australian O2 Atom?
If anyone else is having or have had this problem can help me that would be great.
Regards
Scott
You do not have the latest ROM. Download and flash the "Leaked ROM" on this forum.
Can you please post the link to this "Leaked ROM"?
Are you sure this comes from the speakers and not the screen? There is a faint, high-pitched sound coming from my screen.
I have the same problem with the sound, but it definitely coming from the screen. My device was bought in Australia with first ROM. I upgrade it to 20060123B1WWE. Do you really think that it's a ROM bug?
I want to send my Atom back to Australia to fix this problem, because we don't have XDA service centers around. Or it is not worth wgile?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42613
Don't send your device anywhere for fix  Just upgrade and yu'l be OK. If you want to know why I have both Atom and Jamin (causin 818 Pro) it is this sound you are talking of. Was actually going to bin the Atom
In fact there were 2 upgrades available in February: One official, and this "leaked" one, which is the last of them, and best 8)
So, you bealive ROM update could fix the sound problem? By the way, if I upgrate ny Atom with leaked ROM, would I have a problem with next oficial update from O2?
The leaked ROM didn't change the faint sound I hear from the screen, it's probably totally hardware dependant. And I doubt that you will have any problems upgrading to an official ROM. Whatever O2 does (and I see no reason for them to make this difficult anyway) there will be somebody who cracks it.
So, what to do with the sound?!
If this "sound" from the screen is only heard when you tap the screen, you should enter the equaliser program and turn it off. That way you won't hear double clicks when you tap.
Otherwise I don't know the problem you are having
It could be from my screen. It sounds like a high pitch noise from a dieing CRT Monitor.
Also the link to the "Linked Rom" doesn't work.
To victoradjei. We are not talking about screen taps sound! When my phone is swiched on, I can hear buzzing "electric" noise coming from the screen.
To ScottB82 - my Atom also was bought in Australia. May be it's hardware problem. Why don't you apply to service center? There is a link to leaked ROM on the econd page of the topic. First link is expired.
Well Nick, I also had that sound before the leaked ROM update. In that state even your calls sound with echo  I got that sound when I flashed the ROM currently on the seeo2 site. The original did not have it  Someone says the upgrade did not help, others say it did. Upgrading is not like remoulding your car bonnet, try it and reverse if you don't see improvement. Tweaking is what we do here on this forum 8)
I also have the high pitching sound on my Atom. I have the leaker ROM installed and I'm not sure if it made that sound before I updated my ROM. But it is annoying as hell.
Leaked ROM installed, but bloody sound has NOT gone! By the way, when I'm doing ROM upgrading should I leave SIM card in or better take it out? Or it dosn't make any sense?
I usually take out the SIM card, if I remember. But I have done upgrades without doing that, and they have worked just as well.
So, there is NO chance to get rid of this sound?!
Actually I have had a sound like that on most my PDA's. It's just that you don't notice it until you hold it up to your ear (in my case the left ear - the right one has tinnitus and can't hear those frequencies). I seldom make calls with the phone, to me it's a communication device. And if I make calls it usually means that I'm on the road, so I have a handsfree. I think that's the only total solution. On my old Blue Angel I had a much stronger sound too. This one I can hear from around 15 centimeter. The BA I could hear four meters away if the room was quiet! But I got that replaced on the warranty, and the result was a screen that made about as much noise as this Atom does.
How far away can you hear the noise?
I have one more Atom in my hand now & there is NO sound AT ALL. It's a pity we don't have service senters around & I can't fix my one/
I don't like being negative but the atom really sucks. I found a new feature:
rotate the screen to landscape, press reset. Instead of restarting, it starts to vibrate and not turn on. This continues until the battery is removed
I was checking out new pda's and the sales man was giving me the pitch on the atom. I mentioned that I had one and how it is the worst thing on the market and he stoped talking to me, turned around and walked off. To make it worse a vodafone sales man told me they may not be going to sell the exec that I am waiting for .
Hi all,
Got my v1605 TyTN today and unfortunately have got a problem off the bat.
No matter what I do I cannot get the jeyboard backlights to work. It matters not if the light sensor is enabled or not and as far as I can see in the manual there is no way to activate/deactivate it.
Guess it'll be going back to Vodafone on Mon
Also - noticed the owner info is no longer shown on the today screen - in fact Voda seem to have taken it over completely with no way to revert. Pity - as I LOVE the rest of the Voda customisation work - especially the phone skin.
Rich
stuff on/not on the 1605
on my number 2 device now, camera not as good but keyboard is ace and screen doesn't wander.... but i've noticed it doesn't have msn as part of the bundle as in the 9100, and if you want it it needs to be purchased off the windows.
I seem to have inhereited the 9100 '10 seconds' timeout on backlight issue from somewhere. It would be nice for it to work ok, but i'm sort of used to this happening now.
Other than that its fantastic.
Congratualtions to vodafone for swift swap out of flakey devices.
I get scared real easy, and I'm now starting to worry about the TyTn. Several people are now reporting problems with these devices, including serious hardware problems.
So please comfort me; your TyTn works just great right?........righ?
Mine is fine so far, no key problems or screen alignments only problem i have is slow access to web sites with tmobile
Cheers
Chris
This is a good idea, but unfortuntely your going to get a pretty skewed result seen how most ppl that have issues are on these boards because they want to resolve them, if your device is working fine its less likely you will be at this juncture to post 'all's well'.
It seems a massive amount of problems seem to be directed to the Vodaphone models and not necessarily the TyTN models. Also other forums arent reporting wide spread problems, and furthermore I just spoke (email) with 2 other Australians who had purchased HTC TyTNs from USA, and they havent had any issues with their devices.
I hope this information is of some comfort to you. If it helps I had the same feeling with the jasjar as it had widespread complaints, although m ainly software ones which I knew could and were addressed.
Trion ... Can't stop singing praises
Really happy with my Trion.
I had started with the original XDA which was the first one of it's kind and kind of cool but that quickly fell out of use due to the phone usability and the need to always use a stylus. I was really happy with the Smartphones as it really was usable using one hand but when the Trion came out I thought it was time to take the plunge back to a PPC, well at least as a office phone. Haven't looked back. Thejog dial button works a charm and with all the extra buttons you can actually use the Trion full time without use of the stylus. WLAN functions perfectly even with Skype. Push email functions like a charm syncing contacts and calander, tasks and email instantly (I recommend mail2web as a cheap way of implementing push email). A2DP actually works and is finally usable especially with the A2DP improvement hack. Now listening to music is crystal clear with no skipping (I'm using the Motorola HT820 which gives start stop pause functionality and with some other hacks you can program the speaker button to trigger programs such as voice command). Tomtom works fine. Definately the 400 Mhz CPU has made the Trion function well with most apps.
The size is slightly smaller than the Wizard but it actually makes a huge difference. Pictures are actually usable with 2MP and a flash light which helps a bit as well.
I finally found the perfect business phone I can use!
TYTN
Mine work fine now for 3 weeks w/o any soft reset.
English version from the Netherlands
Only 2 time (in the night) he was crashed but I think it's because I use pocket wakeup.
Michel
Mine is fine (vodafone v1605) although I cant get vodafone live just a blank screen but the rest of the web is great. No Issues after a hard restet when I first got it, it seems I wasnt the first person with it as I didnt have to set it up and it had 2 minutes on the call timers. But apart from that mine works great.
hey,
i've had my v1605 for a total of 22 hours now. I got mine on a wicked upgrade deal (released from contract for free and got handset for free too)
So far I must say that I haven't found any issues with this baby.

I am after any help to get my prophets camera video recording (which stutters like crazy and misses most frames) working to an exceptable level.
The basic photo quality from the camera is ok however its just the video recording
For the record, I have tried and tested CoolCamera v1.15 (and previous incarnations/versions) but CoolCamera doesn't work well at all on my Prophet and even the photo side of the software gives a bad image result.
I am currently using a G4 Prophet, ASURG v3.3.13 ROM which is the best out of all of those that I have tried.
So, what I am after is any help / relevant advice or information on what to do to enhance the video capabilities.
I use a fast 4GB MMS card which is NOT the problem as far as I am aware as I have not only tried saving a video recording internally but have also tested various ultra cards from 64mb,250mb right up to a 1gb for saving onto and its just as bad.
I have tried many patches (cab update types from various operators etc)
I have not come across any registry tweaks so am interested to hear if anyone has any they know of.
I have a feeling it maybe something to do with a combination of the relatively low CPU speed of the Prophet and perhaps the seemingly low quality sensor and camera chip? Incidentally, I've also increased and decreased the core clock speed using omapclock software but that makes no difference either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I use the device for EVERYTHING. Its with me 24hours a day and is used primarily for taking spur of the moment photos for work.
PS: For the record I have also checked 'xda-Dev' and left a post for help to (I haven't found anything relevant to this problem anywhere to be honest which I find strange.)
Surely I am not alone with this problem.
Thanks in advance of any help
Nicholas
I have nothing to say, use these tips for a little improvements
1. Update to Rom 2.20 and over clock to 204 MHz.
2. Use more light in the office.
3. Try 50 Hz flicker adjustment
I'm using now N80 the colors are not as Jamin but much movement for video inside, get on for your office
Thanks anyway....
Thanks but have already tried 2.20 with no difference. I started off with 2.20. Variable flicker adjustments have never made a difference either and I get the same result inside or outside. colors are very vivid and acceptable too. Its just the video recording quality I am looking to fix / better.
Video jumps and stutters during recording (every few seconds) at present to the point that I have to discard every video made on the phone.
Thanks all the same for replying.
I have very good Camera outdoor, in the sunlight, maybe ur device has a problem
well, erm thanks for that.
Cool Camera
Try coolcamera app. this is so much better than the original

A solution for you...
Hi m8,
What you need to do is this:-
1. Flash your phone back to a decent ROM such as the last QTek AKU 2.20 release. (All the other WM6, AKU3+ etc. etc. ROM's you might find are basically CRAP, although Jesterz AKU2.20 ROM is also a keeper in my opinion!!)
2. Then you need to overclock your phone to approx. 234MHz with the "Batterystatus" plugin (A very nice little app. that you should always have on your phone! - Search this Forum to find the app. d/l link!)
3. Unfortunatley, the AKU2.2 Camera Driver cannot handle the aforementioned overclock speed and gives you green pixels all over the screen, so you need to download and install the following older version of the Camera Driver, from here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31808&d=1165275264
4. Soft reset your phone after installing the driver and BINGO, Camera now runs like a charm in both still and in video modes!
I hope this helps... let me know if you need clarification of anything or if for some reason this doesn't work for you!
Cheers, Moz.
Thanks friend.
Thats one of the roms i was using last month. Its stable and reliable but still had problems. As for over clocking I use OMAP overclocking app and add shortcut to startup. I was told not to over clock ever if I want a decent camera result but will try once more. I appreciate your advice. Thanks.
Worse thing happened yesterday...my Prophet speaker died. So I have been told to phone up to arrange a replacement on Wednesday. I didn't know that the Prophet was renowned for having a speaker problem every so often and that many other people had had to get replacements because of this.
Oh well. Will wait till new one arrives and see how good the video is on it.
Thanks again
Hi again,
Sounds like your Prophet experience has been pretty much a mirror image of mine... I think we will ALL get the speaker problem sooner or later... these particular handsets seem rather badly built to me! I simply replaced my failed speaker with one from an old SPV E100 I had lying around, and now the ringtones and sound playback from the unit is awesome - Can't beat the old phones for build qualitt!! (...and I got my Jamin from Ebay for 60 quid so it was easy to take a risk in pulling it apart!!)
As for the fix I described previously, the Omap overclock will work equally well (I just find the Batterystatus app. more flexible). The Jesterz ROM is defo one of the most stable out there and if you want to use your device as a proper business/workhorse mobile phone rather than just a gimicky toy like most of the kids on here, then it (or the proper Qtek AKU 2.20) are the *only* ROMs worth considering.
Your previous advice concerning not overclocking for the Camera is essentially correct, hence the need to downgrade the driver in order to attain the required performance!!
When you get your replacement unit from Orange, I would simply try the Overclock to 234MHz then install the Driver fix I posted on top of whatever standard ROM it comes with... I'm sure you will see the improvement in video you are seeking - it works for me anyway!
(Nice website you have there, by the way... had a quick nosey and just thought I'd say! )
Rgds, Moz.
Cheers Mozzerr
Sound Mozzerr.
Took ALL what you were saying. Am checking new replacement now. Came this morning. I love Orange. I was really peed off at first as insurance had been taken off a year ago without my asking. Could have been an oversight on my part am not quite sure, but it nearly cost me a replacement phone. Was getting VERY worried as first told during two separate calls to two 'O' reps that HTC were going to have to fix the problem and that would be down TO ME!!!! cheek of it.
Anyway. Orange came up trumps in the end so am not here to knock them as they've been more than good to me in the past.
Anyway, am now off to play with the camera and see what gives.
Glad you like the site and thanks
When my TP's loudspeaker is activated or deactivated it makes a small speaker pop sound. Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit? It happens jsut before any sound is emitted from it, and then shortly after the sound has finished and it goes back silent. Seems its when the speaker receives power ready to emit sound, then again when it powers back off.
Coming from a Universal (MDA Pro) the sound quality on the TP is very poor in comparison but then it is like half the size so it's manageable. This popping sound is very annoying tho.,
I'm using the stock ROM that came with it. I'm on T-Mob UK (it's one of the Expansys ones).
Any ideas how I come test / overcome / put up with this?
Thanks,
LLOYDY

My TP started behaving like this after 2 months of use. First I suspected a software problem, but after a hard reset it was the same, so smells like a hardware problem.. I think I'll contact the local HTC service and see what they have to say about it.
It's been 11 days since I left my TP to a local (authorized HTC) service center; they accepted it as a warranty covered problem and now it's waiting for a new motherboard. The thing that worries me, is that when my previous phone (TyTN; does HTC a have a little quality problem or am I just that unlucky?) underwent the same thing, it took a little over 7 weeks. Without a temporary replacement phone..
I am getting an Xperia X1 from work though, so I don't have to be without a decent phone even if the TP took a while longer.
This happened to me as well. After ROM upgrade my speaker have started to play "cracking sound" and "static noise" (sometimes gsm noise) just after playing something normal (like ring or nitification sound).
Has someone fixed this in other way than replacement? I have no warrant/guarantee any more
Same problem here!
I also have this annoying pop/click sound that recently developed after the very first long phone call I made with my HTC Touch Pro.
(for some reason, I can't link to my other post, so I'll copy the relevant info here).
Speaker (the speaker on the back, not the speaker that you put to your ear) emits a sharp click/pop prior to sound being emitted and a second or two of what is best described as "static" or interference (which is quiet-ish, but noticable if you're in a quiet location), then another sharp click/pop as the speaker effectively shuts itself off.
As well as this, the overall sound level seems quieter than normal (and my HTC TP was never the loudest device to statr with!)
This issue also occurred due to the same reason. I had made a phone call of approx. 45 minutes (the single longest call I'd made on my HTC Touch Pro), after this, the problem started.
I also got the weird battery issue, although the battery issue for me was that the HTC would be switched on and displaying a full charge, however, performing a soft-reset would show only a half-power charge when re-booted. I could then charge again until full, soft-reset again, and the same thing would happen.
Power drain seems about normal. I'm currently waiting for a complete discharge so I can fully recharge and hopefully "correct" the battery meter (I think the battery issue is simply a mis-configured meter reading) however it does seem related to the sound issue, which is far more worrying.
My HTC Touch Pro is bog-standard, everything stock and normal. Settings > Device Information > System shows the following:
Rom Version: 5.05.405.1 WWE
Rom Date: 01/22/09
Radio Version: 1.11.25.01
Protocol Version: 52.58.25.30U
Does anyone one know if this is genuinely a hardware problem that can only be fixed with repair/replacement, or is this an issue that can be solved with software or soft/hard resets etc?
Please help!
I tried everything I can do software so I think it's a hardware problem. In a few days I'm getting another cellphone so I will send my Touch Pro to repair service. I'll let you know the result

Thanks for your reply, Davka.
I'm starting to think this is definitely a hardware issue. I have since tried multiple hard-resets (that didn't work) and since I was loosing my setting with the hard-reset, I thought "what the hell" and flashed TAEL-ROM and re-flashed the radio (same version). Neither had any effect on my loudspeaker (ie. it's still clicking and popping with interference before and after any sound as well as being annoyingly quieter), but I am loving TAEL-ROM, though!
Please keep us informed as to the outcome of your speaker problems! Thanks again!
Same problem
I have a touch pro. And I have exactly the same "clicking" sound from my speaker when it gets activated and then a click after it's deactivated.
It's Click, play sound, Click.
I don't think it has to do with the hardware. I got it after flashing the newest NRG rom.
Gonna flash back to an older rom to test.

I have the same problem . You have found a solution for this problem?
In my case it was probably a powering subsystem issue and HTC service found some fluid inside my phone, cease my guarranty and didn't fix it :/
