No Phone Signal - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

my friend's Himalaya won't receive any signal from either of the service providers at our place. problem started after he brought his device for Smart internet email configuration at a Smart Customer Service. he said he waited hours and they had no idea how to fix it, so he took it home instead after being fed up waiting.
i've just upgraded his ROM to WM2K3SE 2.06.00WWE Radio 1.18...still won't get any reception from any of our providers. i'd bet something happened to the receiver during the process of setting up the email,
.
are there any service centers here in the Philippines which might be able to fix the hardware? i'd appreciate both any help....

I cannot see how the hardware would be affected by setting up an email service, are you sure somebody hasent swapped the phone or motherboard with a blocked/stolen board/phone?

he shoulda'v let me do the email setup for him...those people don't have much of an idea how to work PDA's. i would't know also if they swapped the hardware, my friend says it was working fine before he brought it to service..

Bizzare gprs connection and fail 02 XDA IIs
Has anyone else had really bad reception for gprs on the XDA IIs ??
Basically mine was working fine for the first 2 weeks of me getting it , now this is what is happening.
9 times out of 10 it won't connect to gprs, when on occasion it does connect you can't do anything i.e browsing web pages always comes up with page not found, email wont connect to server.
I took it upto my local 02 shop and as soon as I walked into the shop it started to work, walked 100 yards down the road it stopped working, went back to the shop it started working, tried this 5 times and at various distances from the shop (even tried in another country) and it doesnt work unless im standing just outside or inside the 02 shop.
According to the ofcom sitefinder there is no mast at the 02 shop location so I trekked off to go and find one and stood right next to it and still no gprs.
Any clues what the heck is going on?
hi
i was unable to send MMS, after a few emails to 02 data support they told me to go to 02 active\tools\connections\ then set it up again for my sim, and it all started working, there was a problem with the gprs setings at there side....
Yeah been there done that im afraid, done soft reset, hard reset, removing sim and wipeing it, trying the sim from my wifes phone (it's grps enabled on her phone)
Def thinks my handset is faulty, trying to get to the right person though who I can talk to so I can send it back (it's past it's 28 days return - so it will have to go back under warranty) is another matter, data support gave me a number to call , but on calling that number you hear as if someone is punching in new numbers and you get re-directed to a voicemail box that is full so you can't leave a message.
Well just got my replacement XDA IIs , yes thats right replacement, 02 couldn't get it fixed within 7 days so they sent me a whole new package, so i've got an extra crade (great for home now), extra battery and all the gubbins , now i've just got to charge it to see if this one works ok
Bastards, in the letter they said it was a replacement phone BUT it's got a scratch on the top left corner which was there on the original phone so I conclude that they havent fixed it or replaced it at all (not fixed because the same fault is there).
The scratch cover both the main face and the section behind, but the EMI (whatever the number is called) is different from what I sent.
So i've had to speak to 02 who are no help because I said I didnt want to wait another 2 weeks to be without a phone and that they should just send me a replacement and I will send back the faulty one...... But oh noooo because I have purchased the phone over 1 month ago, it falls in the manufacturer warranty so it has to be dealt with by the manufacturers repair centre (who have screwed up in the first place). B**lcks i say (well i didnt actually coz im not a rude person).
SO basically there is little point in me trying to argue the toss with 02 , so i've just had to send it back again with a letter and im paying for my line without any use on it
Just wish I had gone with a different service provider now.
I presume that I am stuck with the contract for 12 months as I bought the phone on contract , unless anyone else knows any different ???
Ok after they lost my XDA IIs on the last time i returned it (so 3 weeks without my mobile) so they have exchanged it for a new one (this time without the same scratches - so it must be a different one), but still no GPRS.
I am doing this right aren't I , if I click on the antenna icon i see three things.
O2-UK "turn on flight mode"
MOBILE WEB GPRS "connect GPRS"
WAP NETWORK GPRS "CONNECT GPRS"
SETTINGS (HIDE)
goto start/internet explorer, enter www.google.com
Sometimes it connects but says "the page you are looking for cannot be found"
Other times it won't connect to GPRS and says that the modem you have dialed has no responded.
Im pulling my hair out (but luckily i shave it) trying to get this sodding thing to work!!!!!
Im going to stand outside the O2 shop again and see if it works there like the last one did.
Just a though I do have a lot of computer equipment surrounding me, long shot but would magnetic fields be causing a problem?
Hi I al;so had problems with the GPRS "mobile web connection" like you either not connecting or if it did connect i got the error message saying page cant be displayed. BUT mine did work more than 1 /10 times And most of the time either a soft reset or remove and replace the battery fixed it.
One thing on replacements mine was replaced probley every 2/3 weeks due to them being crap, I had 4 replacements and only the last one had the same IMIE number on the phone as the box, the other 3 phones were brand new (well they looked it anyway)
As of the problems they have now changed it for a XDA2i This is not perfect its still needs thoese softresets a few times a day, But in my opinion its far better than the 2s
John
To be honest with you I bought the phone coz i wanted to treat myself to something that looked flash (i admit it!!!) , but I also use it to remote adminstrate some servers when i'm out and about using vnc but of course if I can't connect to GPRS then i can only do it when im in a wifi hotspot (which in my neck of the woods is not a common occurance).
When i first got the phone it worked flawlessy for about 2 weeks but now even with the new phone nothing!!!!
Just out of interest i often see patches and upgrades in this forum for asian bought xda/ii/IIs etc. but I never see anything for O2 UK, do they not release patches etc???
On the off change i used the rom from http://www.ridersinc.com/dev/store/customer/home.php , it reported to being the same rom as what my XDA IIs is shipped with but i thought i would give it a go anyway, lo and behold i've just been able to connect browse and get my emails via gprs, not sure if this is a one off though so im going to try it a few more times.
Ok been using GPRS all day today now, seems that by reuploading the rom on my-xda.co.uk seemed to do the trick! , have no idea why though as it was/is the same rom as what the phone was shipped with.
anyway hopefully it will stay this way.
Just wish I hadn't sent the cradle and charger that came back with the first return (kept the battery though), second return came just as the phone instead of the whole box

No gps signal and very poor phone signal

Hi guys,
After dropping my phone and cracking the screen i got my phone back from repair (after 6 weeks) now i find that the gps never finds a satelite and my phone reception is very poor - mostly no service or 1 bar when near tower. I have never had a problem with reception before always been good tried reflashed different roms and and radio roms but no go. So i have come to the conclusion that it is a hardware failure. But i was just wondering does the gps and phone work off the same antennae maybe it just became dislodged, or has anyone else got any ideas i could try before i send it away for another six weeks. cheers.
AFAIK, GSM and GPS are using different antennas. However, I can't guarantee that - should look in service manual.
On the other hand, flashing some radio ROMs might cause damage to both GSM and GPS receivers, causing irreversible performance drop.
Before sending device to repair, be sure to flash it with official ROM.
And I suggest that you test it with latest official ROM you can find.
thanks for your reply I have flashed back to original rom and am now in the process of having my phone looked at. Only had these problems after sending my phone in for repair for a cracked lcd screen so im kind of hoping they just forgot to put something back in. but im really not that lucky. Thanks again.
Good luck, please update with results ASAP.
Hi, Just updating sent my phone to another repairer they told me that when i got my screen repaired the last repairer had left off a part that joins the two antennas (gps and phone) to the main board. So it was pretty much similar to what i thought it might have been. This repairer was Australia's official HTC repairer the first two weeks they lost my phone then they found it then it took three weeks to fix a cracked lcd then they sent it back to the wrong address another week to locate my phone then get it back to find the signal problems so a word of warning to Aussies - If its not a warranty repair dont send it to HTC repairer unless all other options are exhausted. Do some net research on these guys there are plenty of disgruntled people and there's even a news article on an industrial action protest outside thier shop for treating there employees poorly. Oh well lesson learnt and my rant is now over. Thanks again.

HTC Warranty

Has anyone had experience with HTC warranty?
I live in Vancouver, Canada, and my newly bought HTC off Craigslist is malfunctioning.. I can't get a stable connection through cellular radio. It always drops, and cuts in/out.
Usually I get a "restricted access changed" error, or a "disconnected because the radio was turned off." This happens regardless of what network mode I use or APN I set.
I should've checked it prior to purchasing, but the guy I bought it off gave me the receipt, so I assumed nothing was wrong, and I was in a hurry to get onto campus.
My only real concern now lies in the fact that my bootloader says relocked. But hopefully since this is a hardware problem, it will be fine. That or I can find someone through Wireless Wave to help me exchange it.. even though it's past the two weeks.

[Q] Unlocked Telus One S Constantly Disconnects on MTS network

I bought my One S from Telus through a friend who's a Telus customer this past June and used an unlock code bought online to use it with my carrier (MTS). After setting it up with the MTS APN settings it worked perfectly for several months. Then around 2 or so months ago, I got an OTA update to 4.0.3 and as soon as I got the update, the phone started regularly dropping the connection to the network. Signal strength wasn't an issue, it would just cut out completely, giving the message about emergency service only. Some days it wouldn't be too bad and would just cut out momentarily and sometimes it would drop for a good time or drop so repeatedly as to make the phone unable to even dial out. It would sometimes even vary in severity throughout the day. I haven't rooted or unlocked the phone in any way except for a carrier unlock code.
As I was very busy with school, I gritted my teeth and beared it but it seemed to get progressively worse to the point where I finally sat down to seriously look into, and got on the phone with MTS tech support, HTC tech support, as well as trying to talk to MTS sales reps at their store locations. MTS is clueless on what to do (or just refuses to help) because they don't sell the One S. I talked to HTC three times and their only solution was to see what happens with sim cards from different phones and they also noted that the stock software, as well as updates, are tied to the carrier and could be causing problems.
MTS also talked me into buying a new sim card and seeing if that fixes the issue, where it actually made things worse somehow and now the phone often cannot get a connection at all or drops it and doesnt pick it back up (on the settings screen, "mobile data" gets stuck at "turning on" but even voice doesn't work). I've tried getting other people's sims to try in my phone but they all seem to have ones of different sizes. All I've been able to try is a Rogers sim (which I only could test for a short time, but seemed to stay connected and stable for that time) and a Telus sim (which wouldn't work at all, strangely enough. Though one person I talked to at HTC said that by unlocking my phone its possible I received the OTA update from a different carrier such as Rogers).
I'm not sure what to do here as I've tried messing with many settings and searching for solutions without finding one that works. One of the HTC reps I talked to said that I could either send it in (and lose the phone for 2-3 weeks without a guarantee this wouldn't happen again) or while they can't recommend it, I could try rooting the phone and downgrading the software to what it was before. A guy I talked to at a local cell repair shop listened to my problem for about a minute and a half and then said rooting would fix it.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. I'd like to get some more input before I void the warranty by trying to root it and replace the software with some in case that doesn't fix it and I have to send it into HTC for a big fee.

Out of service area problem

Within the past 2 weeks my phone had been dropping calls or not being able to receive calls at all sometimes. Let me try to explain. Sometimes when I try to make a call my service will cut out and say "out of service area" and not but 5 seconds later it will show I have service again. I can send text messages surf the web anything but make phone calls. At&t doesn't believe that it's on their end. Whats going on??
You are not alone, I have similar problem. I went to Sumsang center in Bestbuy last weekend, the Sumsang guy there told me he loses DATA randomly too, he knew at least 3 people having the same issue since last OTA. And they are all AT&T users, all S8+ phone, the Samsung guy told me they already know this situation and investigating it, hopefully they will push another update soon.
For now, I reboot my phone every morning before I leave my house.

It's very frustrating. I've talked to samsung on the phone and they told me I could send my phone in and have it tested but I feel like it won't do anything. And they would send me a refurbished phone back not a brand new one like the one I purchased. I drop connection all the time during calls, when I try to make calls it doesn't matter. The people at at&t are no help.
Add me to it. And to me it is an intermittent problem. It does not happen all the time. I am on Sprint, and I have the phone unlocked through Sprint since I paid it off. Not sure if unlock changed anything.
Anyone got the problem sorted out?
S8 plus out of service area
Hi.
I also have the same problem and this is not a software problem this is hardware problem you need to change the boot.
Theirs no other way
I had a similar issue. My phone showed I had network coverage but I kept missing calls. My provider sends a text message on missed call. I would call my number, phone would not show anything and i'd get a missed call sms.
I took it to the local samsung authorized service, they replaced the motherboard, the display and battery on warranty. Basically I have a new phone now and it works.
