Nokia 9300 - General Topics

Does anyone know any GPS packages that work well on this phone . I understand that Symbian isn't the best for Gps !! I have had the phone for about 4 weeks and find it good with a few annoying quirks-no predictive text, no voice dial, no external volume controls for music player etc etc.

First link is for Wayfinder
That second link is for tomtom 5 mobile.
I think route 66 would probably work also.

not working on my imate SP5. Application starts, shows startup screen, apparently connects with GPS, and shuts down. Any ideas?
of course not, nobody on here knows how to fix anything! I've been looking all day for an answer as to why route 66 7 keeps telling me that there isn't enough memory to load the map and then shuts down, nobody knows. Plenty of threads from like 2006! but nobody knows! AHGHHHHHHHH!!!!! I probably won't get a decent answer for that anytime soon either. Good luck man! and sorry bout this.

You need to buy an SMARTPHONE map for your location
I was looking for GPS software myself a while ago. What I finally decided on was GPSDash (http://wimobi.com/gpsdash/overview.sph2.php?pid=sph2). What I liked was the ability to use custom maps, which are easily made with Google map downloader (for either satellite maps or street maps)
You have to register both to get full functionality and there's no navigation function, but it works well enough for dataloging and knowing exactly where you are.
Aside from that, I also recommend the Google Maps application for smartphones if you have a data plan. It ties with your GPS and, even if you don't have a GPS, gives you an approximate location based on cell tower triangulation.
One more site to mention is http://www.maps-gps-info.com/fgpfw.html. I stumbled across it looking for j2me apps for an old Nextel phone I have. There's lots of smartphone apps there, but I haven't tried most of them.
GPSVP is free too

Have you tried the Windows Live Search? It includes Maps, Driving Directions, From-To-Reverse Route, and many other little features. Maybe not as powerfull as the paid GPS softwares, but surely has got me out of trouble on the road many times. I can post you link if you care to see it, or just search for "Windows Live Search". Its a 700+ Cab. Good Luck

Advice on Which Phone

Hi,
I am trying to get hold of a phone that has the following features. I realise this is a comprehensive list but many phones have most of the features already, but many don't have the office docs editing features. This is an inportant feature for me and a stylus input feature would be a plus too.
I realise the Touch Diamond comes clse except for the 3.15 Mp cam...(and no flash) but that maybe the phone I would buy...unless you guys know better
Anyway, thanks in advance.
GPS
Touch Screen/Stylus
T9
Expandable Memory (Preferably SD/Micro SD)
Music
MP3/MP4
Stereo Earphones
radio - RDS
5Mp Cam with flash
HSDPA
2g/3g
Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate
Wlan
Bluetooth
Edit Office Docs (txt, doc, xls)
SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, IM
TV out functionality
Organizer
Voice memo/dial
Built-in handsfree
Regards
Dean
The Samsung Omnia i900 is very close to this list. Doesnt have voice activation though but looks like it has everything else you want.
Apart from the camera specs the HTC touch pro matches everything else that you are looking for. It has an additional QWERTY keyboard as well which comes handy for typing long emails or messages.
Thanks you are right....the Omnia i900 is everything I wanted...I guess I missed it because its so new.
Thanks for your help...I am checking prices on Ebay right at the moment for a sim free option.

At first: the previous suggested devices are NOT phones; it are Pocket PC's with phone functionalities, these have touch screens.
There are smartphones: these have no touch screens.
Second: I'm in the same situation as you... -click-

Hi..
How is the battery backup practically ?
thanks
how to upgrade this phone to wm6.5 friends?
thx.
is there any comment for C6625?
Comments on C6625
I am a new owner of a Samsung C6625.
First thing first the minuses:
- no touchscreen running an OS designed for touchscreens! most software are running but are unusable. Imagine a igo8 running and getting stuck in the main menu (frustrating)
- GPS has poor signal
- WM is standard
- community support for it is limited!
- no wifi
Pluses
+ no slide for keyboard
+ bussiness phone image.
Advice
Buy a normal touch screen phone something form HTC, Eten if you are lucy and don't have hardware problems then you have good mobile with great community support. I also have an older M700 Eten running WM6.5 that I will keep because the C6625 isn't able to replace it.
hello all,
i'm from indonesia,i've use this phone for quite sometimes.
its true that garmin XT works very nice in this device.and if you want to use free pushmail you might consider using SEVEN (its realtime pushmail, excellent).
someone posted about sms notifier,is it similar to sms ticker?cos if it is its already in the device,so you don't have to install third party softwares.
i found this device very handy, especially for backups.by simply using microsoft myphone, and my C6625 is on the internet!
for other applications,i think we can use any WM 6.1 softwares.heaps of it is on the net!^^
about upgrading to 6.5, i don't think C6625 will survive,or maybe if you push it,it'll explode because of the processor's limit.LOL

i think GPS signal depends on your location,so it doesn't count for the minuses of this device.CMIIW
The device is more than good, my best one-Hand Phone. I use it for months, GPS with Garmin is really nice. But now I look for the HTC ozone, Samsung Omnia B7330 or LG GW550, it just has something new here. Therefore, I sell my C6625 so if you have interest, just let me know.
cheers

Navigation software review for HTC Vox / S710

Hi,
i tried several navigation solutions for vox, and here is a little review:
1. Sygic Mobile / McGuider
+ works on WM Standard without additional software (like FakeCoursor)
+ good graphics while navigation
+ no bluescreens (at all)
2. Navigon Mobile Navigator 7
+ best graphics while navigation
+ fast route calculation
- doesnt works on WM Standard without additional software (like FakeCoursor)
- crashes operating system so that you have to do a hard reset.
- doesnt recognize GPS-settings from last use
3. Garmin Mobile XT
+ works on WM Standard without additional software (like FakeCoursor)
+ fast route calculation
- works to slow to navigate, gives hint "turn right" when you already passed the crossing.
4. Route 66
+ works on WM Standard without additional software (like FakeCoursor)
no further testing because i didnt find a "free" map to test
Hope this "little" review helps some people looking for navigation software for vox.
I use an external gps - Jentro BT-GPS-8U.

Nice little compilation.
I am using Garmin Mobile XT and I never found it too slow (except when you're using the preview of turns which then takes too long to switch back to normal view). I have been using it here in Germany as well as in Scotland and it always found a pretty good route (except for a small street on a small scottish island hehe).
I am using a Bluemax GPS receiver.
You forgot to mention Tom Tom which with version 7.915 (I don't remember the build...maybe 9196) has become pretty usable without a fake cursor.
Also regarding my experience...McGuider is the nicer but the less reliable...something you can't thrust in.
GarminXT, is pretty decent to use, and more reliable...as stated by Frauhottelman...sure it isn't the smoother thing you'll see in your life...but, hei, you're running it on a 200 Mhz TI OMAP CPU.
TomTom ...i'm starting hating it...it does whatever it wants...IMO...On my Fuze it simply ignores the settings you set in it...and keep you crossing field roads...LOL.. damn it!
So my 2 cents go for the Garmin.
P.S: Whenever you'll go to the WM Pro platform...my suggest point all theway out for the Igo experience.
Did you test any of these without GPS connected, i´m thinking it could be used as a normal roadmap for finding your way without GPS.
Hey
anybody know why i cant get the device id for my vox in ttnavitor.bif?

[Q] Xperia X10 VoiP

Can anyone suggest a SIP application for X10 that actually works with the phone! I've tried at least 5 or 6 of them always with the same result: the voice received on the other side is utterly hideous! Tried: sipdroid, fring, linphone, 3CX, c... and they all routed voice to speaker instead earpiece, never avoided echo being generated on the other side of the call, mic & speaker mixing caused further problems with voice quality received on the other side of the call, tried every single codec 8,16,32 kbps, lowering the mic & speaker gain ... So before i go and by Nokia E series just to do the damn VoIP, is there any hope for X10??
Voip on X10
Got the same Problems .........
No SIP client is working on the X10! I tried many of them i.e. Sipdroid, Fringe, Nimbuzz, FritzApp and so on..........
The results are the same! No SIP client is working solid. I get force closed, phone crashes or just awesome bad voice quality....
I realy was thinking that this was caused by the 1.6 Firmware.
So 2.1 is out now and i try it again.
The Result: Still crashes and phone hang ups! SO WTF?
It wasnt about the 1.6 Firmware so what is wrong with the X10?
It looks like that there is no option to use any SIP Droid with it?
Is anybody out there who can confirm a running SIP client on a X10 with satisfying result?
I have never heard about and i realy want to use VOIP. There must be a way........
Thanx for sharing your experience!
Have you actually upgraded!? i'm waiting on 2.1 before dropping down the Issue. I'll be patient and wait for a update which is meant for my region (not the Nordic), and it might take a while. However I found somewhere that he issue with bad voice quality during voIP in Xperia is caused by the phone recording/mixing inbound & outbound audio at the same time. I actually haven't had many crashes except with Linphone and my main concern is audio. Hoping that 2.1 would do something with the Android Kernel that will allow for better VoIP experience. If not E52 (Nokia has by far the best VoIP client).
Yes im already using the Nordic 2.1 Firmware......
there is no hope for SIP!
Damn it! I mean WTF, I'm following the Xperiax10.net blog and people getting wormed up about the Eclair and anticipating trivial stuff such as live f...king wallpapers, 5 welcome screens minor improvements in performance (OK I admit that Hd recording & continuous are some improvements) but totally neglecting a functionality in which their phone is used as a communication tool!!
So It looks that I'm going to use two devices Xperia handling my multimedia requirements and some cheap WiFi capable Nokia handling SIP!! Have you tried contacting your local SE office over this matter?
Try CSipSimple. Its the beter full sip solution for now on my X10mini. Fully integrates with dialer, and sound is ok at all

Thank you for this hint.
I will give it a try and post my experience......
[email protected] luiscypherbr
You're right CSIPSimple gives best results, it takes some twitching with the mic & speaker gains to get best results. Works best with headphones. I've tried CSipSimple before on 1.6 but the software kept crashing down, however on 2.1 the software runs smooth. Finally x10 is shaping to be an acceptable business platform other than toy!
Thanx, anyhow for sharing!
