Hi,
tried out the GPRS/EDGE Tweak showing "E" instead of "G" if you are on a cell supporting EDGE:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\
DWord EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon set to 1
This tweak also worked on my Qtek 8300 smartphone though it was listed here for an other type of device.
Unfortunately it does not work :-((
Also no effect if you try to create a DWord EnableDifferUmtsHsdpaIcon and set it to 1 hoping it would work for HSDPA :-((
Is there anybody who can find out (whether by leeking knowledge from insiders or reverse engineering) if such tweaks are existing for the HTC TyTN (Hermes) platform ?
Hey it would be great ... Any update ?
Otherwise, how can I know which connection I'm using between GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA ? Any 3rd party application ?
Is it possible to disable the "feature" that allows my Cingular 2125 to dial 911 even when the keypad is locked? I've "pocket called" 911 twice already, and my wife thinks that they're going to fine me if this keeps up.
I found this registry solution at howardforum...
You can remove it from the emergency number registry entry.
HKLM\Security\ECall\{List}
There are several numbers in the list.
Click to collapse
... but it didn't work on my phone.
Is there a real solution?
Either manually lock the keyboard (long press red key) or use Autokeylock (http://maniac.fschreiner.de) to do that for you.

thanks tobbie, but i think you misunderstood my question .... even when the keyboard is locked, you can still dial 911, 112, and some other emergency numbers. i want to disable this feature.
That's crazy - how do you manage to dial this in your pocket(s)? I have those phones for about 5 years in the rear pocket of my jeans (Battery-cover to the outside) and never ever dialed a wrong number.
If the registry does not work for you (are you sure you tried this - it is the registry on your phone, not the PC) then there is no hope.
Also try the close values: EcallWithouSIM and ECallWithSim at the same key.
I know, it IS crazy! But I swear it happens; I think it's dialing 112 so my test was to try to disable 112.
I did make the changes in the phone registry. Here's exactly what I did:
HKLM\Security\ECallWithSim ... deleted all values in "List" except for 911.
HKLM\Security\ECallWithoutSim ... deleted all values in "List" except for 911.
HKLM\Security\ECall ... Here "List" says that it has a binary value (00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 31 00 31 00 32 00 00 00 39 00 31 00 31 00 00 00 00 00 00 00) and I didn't know what to do with it, so I just deleted the value and saved it as null.
Restart phone.
Lock keypad.
Dial 112 ... it dials; I immediately cancel the call.
My problem might be in the binary value, or maybe this horrible "feature" is just hardcoded into the OS.
I noticed that the value for HKLM\Security\ECall comes back after reboot if you deleted it. Seems like an empty entry is not ok here. Fill it up with all binary zero (just did - it will come back after reboot again) - very sticky these settings.
For my device it asks before it dials - like "911 is an emergency number - Press Enter to dial or cancel to abort".
Hmm, you're right; it DID re-populate the key at ECall with the original values. Just tried filling it up with 00, but same thing happens. Also tried an idea from another forum to rename 'List' to 'Listx', then create a new key named 'List'. But that new one gets reverted to the original values too. Grrrr.
Would it be possible to go to the place from which the registry value is being restored, and delete/change it there? Or is it possible for me to change the registry value, and then to somehow write-protect that value so that it can't be automatically reverted?
(My phone does the same thing as yours -- says "press enter to dial or cancel to abort" -- by my pocket always goes for the enter button rather than the cancel one)
Install AutoKeyLock - it adds another layer of security with the ScreenSaver. I use it since day 1 on my phone and never had accident dials. When the Screensaver is active then the 911 or 112 does not get through . You must unlock first (left soft + *) and then you can dial/use the device.
Excellent; Auto Keylock seems to do the trick. A little confusing so far, but I'll figure out exactly how to configure it the way I want. In the meantime, it should put an end to those surprise 911 calls! Thanks
