Recently i had in my hands for a week a XDAIII baby, and i really liked the sensation of having integrated wifi on it. So i decided to put wifi in my XDAII. The main problem is that with the scandisk sd wifi card i will have to allways remove the 1gb sd, put the wifi sd, etc ... etc ...
So i thougth to sell my XDAII and buy a new XDAIII.
1st I don't like very much the XDA III design. I think the XDAII is much pretier than is sucessor.
The keyboard i will never use because i use letter recognition, so i will spend my money only for the wifi integrated.
By the way i read some benchs that the XDA II is a little faster than is sucessor, so i din't like very much the ideia of spend money for not a better PDA at all.
By this time i thought, that o could install a backpack in my XDAII, and use it with a CF wifi card, and leave my 1gb SD in the slot. I will gain the TV out, i could put one of that cool 4gb microdrive from the muvo player when not connected by wofo, and i will add more baterry life to my baby.
The only problem, is what you allready know ... The exagered size that my XDAII will have.
If you have some pics of XDAII with backpack, side by side with XDAII naked, or with some other PDA please let me know, and tell me your opinions about my crazy idea.
Thanks, and sorry my not very good english

I know this may be a fatal question. Further, I know it has probably been asked elsewhere but I can't seem to find it.
Looking to replace my old XDA II. Which to you experts feel is the best of the current bunch?
I'd like to use the phone as an MP3 player, ideally with a proper stereo jack. Also ideally with full size SD cards. It sounds like this limits me to the O2 Exec, but I'm really not keen on a 285g monster.
One answer, XDA mini, the other XDAs are too big.
XDA Exec / QTEK 9000 / Universal defintily
exec.... all others are too weak...
why buy a lada when you can have a merc?
xda mini is king. the atom has nice features like 3g and wireless in the hardware but the os is a let down. My mini has worked seemlessly for 1 year now and the software on it has not gone wrong once. It also has regular sdio sd slot. In the 1 week I have had the atom all I ever do is wait for menus to pop up 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. or fail to take pictures with the camera because the memory manager has decided it dose not want to use the megabytes of memory lying unused, or reset it because the new activesync (4.1) has crashed my ppc and my pc. In Australia the mini can be bought for as low as $800 now, pretty cheap for what it is.
Hello all,
I've been browsing around and looking at PDAs for sometime now yet I've seen everything I want but not in one device.
I am looking for a PDA/Phone (WM6 support please) with integrated GPS, wifi and Bluetooth. My other aim is to be able to use my PDA as a mp3/video player. I have been looking at the p3300 for sometime now yet there has been no developments with SDHC which I assumed would come once WM6 ROM had been released by HTC. Can someone please shed a little bit of light on the difference between microSD and minisd? I see the HTC touch supports 6gb high capcity miniSD. I've not decided about wanting a QWERTY keyboard yet, I was originally put off but the added weight and thickness - yet tonight I am drawn to it!
Many thanks
JC
htc touch is not for heavy sms-ing.
Transflash is microSD
read: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/14/transflash_is_microsd/
htc touch has
1GB micro SD card included

yep apples are various colours and in many ways differ from oranges in general

Ah ok then, sorry i didnt clock their size difference! So any ideas on suitable PDA
s other than the xda orbit?
Thank you
not sure if trinity does micro hcsd
otherwise poraris when it comes out is an option
and kaiser if you want keyboard
too bad that by the time that the cool sdio devices come out
for diff cards the std have changed :S
Ah I am sorry, I'm not actually fussed what card it uses but microSD seems to be the most popular one at the moment - the only problem being that devices arent supporting the SDHC type. What was wrong with good old SD cards eh?
Hi,
a few months ago I got an ipaq hw6955
it was ok but I thought the screen was way too small for a pda, and miniSD cards aren't very big and then it broke after a month and I got a refund
now I'm looking for another phone but this time I want to shop around more !
I did a bunch of reading and searching on ebay and I'm not really sure what phone to get
I made a list of what features I cared about and which ones I don't
I absolutely want
WM6 , HSDPA (wifi but every phone have that now)
I would really prefer to have integrated gps (don't care much to carry a separate bluetooth gps receiver that's as big as the phone !)
a screen around 3 inches (the ipaq was just a tad too small to confortable use and the 240x240 was useless for movies :\)
I'd really prefer a VGA screen unless it means the phone gets very slow and makes the battery not last (like I heard about the E-TEN glofiish X500+)
I think the toshiba portege g900 would have been perfect but they messed up by using a transmissive screen, I'd prefer a transflective screen , but I think every recent phone has that now anyways.. well except the g900 !
the HTC advantage X7500 might have been good but it's really not pocket sized and WM5 kills it
I don't want a qwerty keyboard that takes away screen estate but a flip would be nice, but not necessary (a separate mini BT keyboard would do)
I heard that the G900 can use usb mass storage devices with it's usb host, that's a feature I really really want , do all phones do this now or is that one the only one ? (I know you need a separate power source but watching movies from a WD Passport 160gb hdd would be great even if it need to carry around an extra 5V battery pack)
a Full SD slot would be great but it seems they are getting rare, the fujitsu loox t830 has one, (I was going to get a t830 but then I saw the E-TEN G700 and changed my mind about front keyboards), micro SD apparently suck, so at least I'd want miniSD with SDHC support ( it'd be great to use those 16gb SD cards as opposed to the 4gb miniSD)
I was wondering maybe I should use a non-phone pda instead ? and just get a phone that has bluetooth and hsdpa support, would it be possible to use a bluetooth capable pda and use it as a headset and do all the dialing and answering with it AND use hsdpa over bluetooth ? , I wouldn't mind carrying both a tiny phone and a pda around
sorry if this post is long but there are so many phones out there , it's getting hard to choose !!
I was thinking the E-TEN Glofiish X800 would be perfect, it seems to have everything (except maybe mass storage device support on it's usb host port) but then I heard HTC phones get a lot more community support than E-TEN phones (custom firmwares in particular !!, maybe linux support ohhh)
thanks for any insight you could give me !!

MICROSD is UNDER the battery cover...how lame..almost like they are reverting back to oldschool smartphones aka htc tornado and such lol
on the other hand, as it's supposed to be a business phone, maybe it's designed to prevent spies from swapping cards too easily (to upload a virus or copy your contact data without you noticing) or avoid SDs from falling out in case of earthquakes, tornadoes, plane crashes...
Those HTC guys, they think of everything !!!
Lies! The HTC TOUCH PRO HAS NO DOWNSIDES!!
<sarcasm>
Yes. lol almost every phone has a downside that HTC makes. Otherwise, well, HTC wouldn't be HTC. I'd be surprised if HTC makes a phone that everyone likes. I want a iPhone with WM running on it. Now that would be kick-ass. Someone godly pro should get a ridiculous amout of money for doing that so he gets some motivation. I know someone can do it. And just to say, if the iPhone gets a hardware keyboard/externa memory version. We can all say bye bye to the WM market :[
hilarious!!
but wait im SURE people are gonna make aftermarket back covers that have a hole/slot so you dont have to hack it to pieces with a razor to get the ease of access lol
i am slightly concerned for the touch pro's music prowess.
I really like it that the microSD is now beneath the battery cover. I currently own a TyTN and here the microSD can be accessed from the outside and is easily ejected just by putting some pressure on it.
Sometimes it already happened, that I ejected the SD just by accident when I put it out of my pocket.
I do not swap my microSD very often because you can easy access it through ActiveSync, and for the few times I load a huge bunch of data to it, it's not a big deal just to remove the cover and put it out.
So my conclusion: Putting the microSD beneath the backcover, brings more protection to the microSD and more style to the phone. (the slot would "break" the stylish surface)
I agree. I have the same problem with my Tytn, it sometimes accidently comes out and on top of that a lot of dirt can get in the slot. And i'm not so fond of those fiddly little sd slot covers they put on other phones. They tend to break or loosen. So thumbs up for HTC that they put their sd card slot on the inside!
when does it come out??? i wanna sell my tytn ii for it. that wouldnt be much of a hastle . i usually bluetooth files to my phone aniways.
i presume there still isnt a 3.5mm jack on the touch pro?
No, there's not. Headphone/Headset is connected through the USB mini connector.
No 3.5mm jack!
That's the only down side I see with the touch pro.
But I do like that the Micro SD slot is hidden because I do not want my SD card popping out and me losing my music and files.
I don't think that's a downside at all. Like some people said, it is a lot safer there.
And think on the bright side, it could be under the battery itself, like it is on my phone, which really really sucks.

Despite what play.com syas Im sure the audio out is via the usual ext_usb socket, as is video out (with the correct adapter).
Even then I really think that to access the memory card one have to take the batt cover, is a downside, not big but a valid one.
I wonder with time if the cover will not get a bit loosely ...
"I want a iPhone with WM running on it. Now that would be kick-ass."
hehe that would solve the fact that one had to take out the batt to change sdcard pretty sufficiently
"I do not want my SD card popping out and me losing my music and files."
hhmm if you pop it back in they'd be back though
The only thing I am concerned about is the fact when I will actually be able to put a 16GB MircoSD card in the pro...
Announced in January, these "babies" are yet not available...
But HTC certainly wants us to use 16GB cards ... so where are those

Sandisk had orginally said they would be out in June but we have kinda missed that already. There a few pics on the net of Symbian phones with the a test 16GB card in and these have been around for ages.
I spoke to their customer service a couple of weeks ago.

Very dissapointing...
The last thing you want is a spring-loaded micro-SD ejecting across a crowded pub... they're *tiny* and real buggers to find if they escape. Sounds like a flaw, but maybe not. I'll put an 8Gb card in, then probably never swap it until I get a bigger card. Lack of a 3.5mm jack is a bigger pain, but I survive now with the stupid 2.5mm jack on my Prophet.
hi everyone,
I'm after a smartphone... i think. I have a budget of £100, but may be willing to go a little over. Obviously for this price, it would more than likely be a used unit (which i'm not fussed about).
I'm looking for a phone that can act like a pda, taking appointments and such, one that i can check my emails, surf the net and chat on msn with. It will also need to be able to connect to Wi-Fi and bluetooth. I would prefer one that could read SD or SDHC cards so i could listen to my music and watch movies (if this is possible?). I would also prefer one with a keyboard as i do write a lot of documents.
GPS is not essential, but would be a nice feature to have, as would a camera.
I have no idea about cpu speeds or memory on these things... so as long as it's able to handle the web browsing and watching movies or listening to music then it should be fine.
Models i've been looking at are the o2 xda II, xda 2i and the xda mini s. The mini S ticks a lot of the boxes, but if anyone has any better recommendations or any help at all, then it would be much appreciated as i have no idea what im looking at with these gadgets.
Hmmm, considering your budget, the HTC HERMES (TYTN not TYTN II) is still a pretty good acceptable PDA phone with QWERTY keyboard and sells for around £100 on eBay UK. I assume you do not really care about GPS capabilities?
A Universal would be also good option, and believe me you won´t find anithing better than Uni for 100 pounds
I have seen some stupidly cheap HTC Diamonds on ebay recently. Sub £150, and to be fair its worth the extra £50.
But at sub 100, I'd say Hermes if you want a keyboard, Elfiin (Original touch with double ram and rom) if you dont, or if you dont mind the bigger size and stuff, then a uni.
I might even sell you my athena for a bit more than a hundred if you want it. I have wanted rid of it for ages, but cant ever get round to putting it on ebay... (sorry for the shameless plug)
