Difference between a 32Mb o2 xda and a 64Mb o2 xda - General Topics

Hi newbie here,
Can anyone tell me the difference as per above. Thanks.

well apart from one having double the ram as the other there is not difference

that will make a difference only when microsoft will rlease rom greater than 32 mo what is suppose to be for the windows mobile 2003 SE....

he's not talking about rom size but about ram size i think
the first xda1's came in versions with only 32MB

New ROM maybe?

Sorry if this is old news but this looks like a magician (Qtek S110, i-mate Jam 128mb) with WM 5.0 could we use this ROM?

This device has 128 of RAM, and not 64 (as first devices like i-mate JAM for example). The problem of upgrading to WM 5.0 is how WM 5.0 manages memory of the device. In old WM versions 64 MB of RAM has been used for both storage and operational memory and we have/had the ability to adjust both kinds of memory (sizes) dynamically. Now is different. Both memories are completely independent (as it is on the PC). And the reason for not seeing any update for the ROM of 64 MB devices to WM 5.0 is that there is actually not enough memory. This is the easiest for understanding explanation. There is more detail clarification but it’s also more technical one.
My Qtek S110 has 128mb as does the charcoal (grey/gunmetal) coloured I-mate Jam. As long as this new model only has 64mb ROM I would imaging the new ROM will work

Nope. I don't think the internal device have drivers for the original S110.

A hope of having WM5 on Imate Jam (charcoal) or HTC Charmer

Hello everyone
recently Everex has announced the release of WM5 for their E900 pocket pc to be distributed on cdz. the specs of of the E900 and the XDA II mini are exactly the same they only differ when it comes to the type of the processor.
I hopeit is just a matter of dumping the rom from the E900 and installing it on the XDA II mini.
cheers
Well theres your answer, the fact that the processors are different make it a whole lot harder for that rom to work on the magician. As for your thread title, the charmer already has wm5.
yeah but what i meant was a generic version of WM5 that works on the i-mate jam charcoal for example, i don't think i'll be happy with a ripped copy of the t-mobile version of WM5 on my PDA
You can't just have a generic version of an OS, it is all hardware dependant (which is why there are different OSs for Apple, x86 and x64 systems)
so what you're saying is that until someone takes the time to cook up a WM5 version for an imate jam (charcoal), WM5 will still be a dream for imate jam (charcoal) users?
yup

It's not going to happen I'm afraid..even though the JAM Special Edition has 128MB RAM, all the RAM will only be catered for running programs as WM5.0
uses the Storage to store everything that used to be in the RAM.
HTC or O2 or I-Mate etc. cannot release the WM5.0 for the Magician because of the way they allocate the Storage space. Just look at O2 Atom and Dopod 818 Pro. Each of them advertised their storage space to be 128MB ROM but Atom only has 22MB free for user and Dopod 40MB free for user.
Look at the Magician, out of 64MB, only 7MB storage is available. So based on what has been released so far, there is no way to fit a WM5.0 into the Magician.

After I have established to the girlfriend on MPx200 WM2005 I shall believe in anything you like.
Hmmmmm...
I just saw that there is an upgrade to HP 21xx PDA-s. These have 64MB ROM only.... So??? I think that the problem is not the size of the ROM.

Page Pool

Sorry People, am a bit of a novice, been upgrading my wizard since a while, trying different mods and experimenting stuff , but i cant understand the difference a 4mb PagePool , a 6mb Pagepool and a 8mb PagePool version. Which one is the best. the Octavia rom offers 4 and 6 , which one would be faster???
the larger PagePool - the less free ram, the faster device!

XDA Orbit 2Gb Memory Limit

Hi Can anyone tell me if upgrading the ROM on the XDA Orbit to WM 6.5 would allow memory cards greater than 2GB to be used?
Thanks
