What is your reason/benefit for flashing a custom ROM? - Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) Questions & Answers

If you flashed a ROM and kept using it (it was stable), what was it? Do you still recommend it?What was the reason/benefit over Pie?Personally, there is a feature on smartthings app that allows ppl to play TV sound on phone but it does not seem to work on Pie and hoping to find a ROM that can fix that, so I can listen to TV through phone headphones, maybe there is better features in custom ROMs?

general questions from a new andriod user useing the Huawei U8651T

Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I can't seem to post to the treads related to what about to ask.
I just got the t-mobile prism (aka: Huawei U8651T), Its my first android phone and a good step up from having used the nokia nuron 3250. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the most simple things that this phone doesn't do and I'm already looking into at least rooting my phone if not installing a better rom (assuming there are better roms) and that is the purposed topic of this post.
I've read up on the "How to root Huawei U8651T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698905 and it seems easy enough to do but I want to make sure that rooting and/or flashing to a different rom will actually fix the small disappointments I've found in my phone. Here is the list...
1, Camera options suck in just about every way. There are pathetic presets to control the white balance and other setting. I've had more options on far lesser phones. Not to mention the poor interface in general.
2. the music player has extremely simple with no built in EQ at all. This one I did find a way to overcome with a small global eq but serously the built in stuff should at least have a preset eq like jazz, rock, bass, flat etc.
3. the alarm clock and texting sounds have to be tmo's preset stuff. I can't set either to a custom ringtone or mp3. Again I found a work around for the alarm clock but not the texting and all these extra programs is steeling away the little memory space this phone has.
4. and finally I have seen programs on the apps/programs list that I can't use or find anywhere else. I'm not talking about the ones that run in the background that run say the keyboard or hardware, I'm talking programs I should be able to use.The one that pops out first is the Sound Recorder. its on there but I can't find anyway to actually use it.
So here is my questions... Will rooting my phone give me a way to change some of these issues? Will installing a different rom?
I'm also instrested in knowing what the CyanogenMod 7.2 STABLE (2.3.7) 16-06-2012 rom is really like vs the stock rom and what other roms there are out there that will work on my phone. I use would like to hear from KrisM22 if your out there but I've love anyone's knowledgeable opinion. thanks for your help.
by rooting & installing CM7 you will solve all this problems coz CM7 provides a wide variety of functionality.
3. You can set custom ringtones and notification sounds very easily. Create a folder on sd card called "media" within that folder create another folder "audio" and within that create a folder called "ringtones" for ringtones and "notifications" for notification sounds.

I tried several different camera apps and it all defaulted to the presets the original app had. so is it hard wired into the hardware or just the roms programing ?

Well once I commit to doing this I'll be backing up mine that I can send along to you. But tell me having run the other rom how does your phone like it? Does it address the issues I've posted? Give me your review please
This rom works quite well for me -> http://www.mediafire.com/?zr5x3lb9xr0kvvf
more info
Cool can tell me more about it? Do a review on it for me please
Well, I just like the way the screens look with the rom...you have to manually install a camera app, music app, and file manager, because the ZaD!!RoM didn't come with them. Also, the phone would shut down occasionally due to overclocking, so I had to adjust that too.
I guess what I'm saying is the ZaD!!RoM is good if you like to do a lot of your own customizing/tweaking. Otherwise, try the Cyanogenmod rom.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for place the link on the stock rom. I am trying to recover the phone back to factory WITHOUT CWM as the boot loader. I am trying to follow instructions of how to reflash in the XDA forums but run into a brick wall for the update.app is not in the stock rom that you provided. Is there something you can do to help on this?
Thanks
I'm trying to follow veer1238 instructions but do not have the update.app. Help please!:crying:
Uh Oh!
I have a T-Mobile Prism that I need to unroot and turn it back into factory conditions. There is a problem though, when I flash the factory rom, the custom recovery flashes it then it says installation aborted. I really need to fix this since I formatted the /system. Thank you for your response.
Info:
Device: T-Mobile Prism U8651T
Custom Recovery: CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.0
Rom: Cyanogenmod 7.2 UNOFFICIAL

Removing these apps(With Titanium backup) and installing play store alternatives is a good start but cm works too.
Poweramp is a good music app that lets you tune eq with the freq.
Stock roms usually suck until they are messed with.
(As you can see I like to modify stock to my whims and I dont like custom roms, only custom kernels)
You can try my tool in my signature because it has a rooting feature.
But if your running android 4.0 or above it wont root
In that case you will have to look for device specific methods.

[Q] Samsung media player port

Hello all!
Over the past few months, I've noticed a few quirks that came with the ics os on the tablet (Camera freezing, usb drama, ect.); So I rooted it, and loaded cyanogen 9.1. The only problem now is that I enjoyed the stock samsung media player better than apollo or any of the other music apps out there. I've tried to load the .apk and system files, but it fails to install every time.
Any information why or why not this is possible is greatly appreciated.
(If it matters, its the GT-P5113, but I doubt that has anything to do with it)

The stock rom and the CM rom have different framework.
The stock apps tend to need custom libs added to the ROM in order to run the apps. This is done on purpose to specifically prevent you from doing what you're trying to do, which is take Samsung's apps and put them on another device. (I know it's the same device, but it's no longer a Samsung device for all intents and purposes.) They didn't do this to stop you from using their apps on custom ROMs so as much as to stop you from taking their apps and putting them on say an HTC device. Their apps only work on stock Samsung ROM's so you hav eto buy a Samsung device in order to use their apps that you want. All phones and tablets with custom version of Android are set up like this, with the exception of the Google Nexus devices that are bone stock Android.
Apps from stock roms can be ported sometimes, but it takes a lot of work and a lot of developer know how to figure our how to port the libs and make them compatible with the customer ROM. It's not as simple and just copying files.
In other words, get used to a different media player. You're not ever going to see the stock one on a CM rom.
Thta said, you don't have to use the one that came with CM either. There are like 9 billion media players on the Play Store. Try a bunch out. You may find one you like even better than the stock Samsung one.

Need Help - How safe is RECALLED Tablet, if we use custom rom?

Friends,
Its been long while I turned my replacement tablet on. My requirements are clear:
1. I would like to use it as android box. Always connect through HDMI
2. Root the tab to get more control and include patch for my gamepad
3. OS should support HDMI and OTG Y CABLE
4. Always connected to WiFi - internet
5. Kill switch should never get activated
So, for these requirements, will a CUSTOM ROM works??? Will a custom ROM stop killing my tab. If so, plz suggest a custom ROM, if anyone is using.
I installed linux4tegra on this tab for now. I would like to install android in it.
Appreciate ur help in providing the answer.
I hope this thread can be useful to others.
Thanks,
SRIHARI
If you use HDMI then no custom ROM will work for you. Read the kill switch thread and be safe.
Thanks for your reply...
Hmmm... In that case, I use good one with HDMI and old one with custom ROM... Will that work.
I want internet on both laptops... And none should get killed...
Old tab with Custom ROM (it should not get killed at any time)
New tab with Stock ROM
I have my recalled Shield Tablet mounted in my truck as a music / video / audiobook / navigation device. It is currently running Trafalgar Square's AICP 7.1 N nightly ROM. Its constantly plugged in to USB power and I have had absolutely no issues with overheating. I made sure that there is plenty of airflow around it, and I never use it for resource hungry applications so I don't really worry about it. YMMV, but its a pretty awesome device for what I'm using it for.
The only way you'll get HDMI support as far as I know is to use Nvidia's original ROM, read the thread on killing the kill switch to find out which file to delete so your tablet doesn't get wiped. The only other thing I could think of if you want a custom ROM is to use DLNA to stream content...
HDMI out works fine on blisspop custom rom
Wow that's great to hear....
As of now I'm using cm13. And HDMI works as well, but no sound...
Nice 2 play with two tabs at once ...

Is it possible to bring Now Playing feature from the pixel phones to OP6?

I've been searching everywhere and I couldn't find a way I could port the Now Playing feature to my OP6, so has anybody done it? Is it even possible?
You can flash a custom rom, for example HavocOS. I used Havoc OS for a while and it was amazing. Havoc Devs add tons of new features every week/two. So it's worth checking out.
And if You want that feature in OOS then I'm not sure if it's possible. Even when You install now playing service app or whatever it's called. It won't show up in settings.

Question How to change the audio output - bluetooth

Hello boys,
how do you change the audio output? On the previous phone (Samsung S22u), I had "-> sound to phone" in the volume control when I was connected to bluetooth in the car, hearing aids... There is nothing like that on the Pixel. (with the YTmusic widget, I have the option to transfer the sound to the pixel, but that's not enough for me)
I'll explain.
I am connected via bluetooth to the car, music is playing via YouTube Music from the car speakers. I get an audio message from WhatsApp (which I want to listen to on Pixel) and the only way to do it is to turn off bluetooth and pause the music. On the S22, I was able to transfer the sound from WhatsApp from the car to the mobile phone.
Please solve my only pain with this phone
If I'm not mistaken, WhatsApp has it set to auto come out the earpiece if you raise it to your ear, correct? You could do that if you want to be the only one to hear it in your car, but other than that, not much of a difference if it comes out your car speakers or the loudspeaker of your phone, right?
I am also having this issue where the apps which has not actually implemented a specific feature or api of google then there is no option to switch between various output devices.
One option is to use a custom rom which has this support or else use a magisk module called LesserAudioSwitch (i didn't like this personally).
I have requested if they can include this feature in AOSPMods as well. Not sure this can be implemented in AOSPMods, but yes this is one most important feature missing for me in A13.
In my perspective if more than one audio source is connected to the phone there should be switch in quick settings or on the side volume menu(like in VoltageOS custom rom, pls see the screenshot i posted in the link) to switch between audio outputs. Currently the "Play On" feature is not implemented in many apps. Android should have this feature IMO.

I want the sound from YTmusic to continue playing in the car, and the sound from, for example, WhatsApp to come from the phone.

Thank you, you understood exactly what I needed.
I will try the magisk module.
Lesser AudioSwitch doesn't work for me. I don't want another ROM, is there another way?
please, is there really no way to solve it?
Is this really only bothering me?
Playing music in the car via Bluetooth and receiving an audio message on WhatsApp is a classic use case. I'm really unhappy that I have to turn off bluetooth - lose connection with the car and the watch in order to listen to the message.
:-(
