Question [Help needed] VAG UIS8581A MCU issue - FYT Android Head Units

Hello everyone, I'm having a bit of an issue with my unit, it's for Audi/Skoda/Seat, VAG cars in general. I purchased it from here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003467681606.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.11.21ef18023EBsYb
It's the 4gig ram version. I stupidly flashed a random MCU, and now my physical buttons don't work. I think I managed to flash the right MCU firmware, but the buttons still don't work. I can kind of get the volume and tone knobs to register just one step, very rarely, but no other buttons work, and the panel key learning does not respond to anything at all. Does anyone know why this might be? I'm assuming it's a resistance issue, but I wouldn't know how to resolve this. Could anyone please assist me with this? Is there any way to reset the resistance, or do anything else? Attaching
pictures of the unit below:

Settings -> Factory -> MCU Panel Key. Is it set to OFF. If so set to ON.
This setting determines whether those hardware buttons or panel soft-buttons are activated or not.

Hi, I should have mentioned that that is set to on. I got an apk for setting mcu keys from a user on 4pda, and all the buttons on the device work, including pressing in the left knob. The issue is that the actual knobs don't work, and on the right knob nothing works, even pushing it in. The panel key learning in the factory settings does not work at all.

Just to understand you correctly (as to me your answer is a bit unstructured):
The square buttons left and right from the screen work?
And the top-left rotating knob works on pressing? mute or 3 seconds to sleep?
But the left knob does not react when rotating it, to act on volume up/down?
And the right rotating knob does not work at all?
And you mention "The panel key learning in the factory settings does not work at all.".
Do you have a CANbus? In that case it will indeed not work as the CANbus hardcodes the buttons (although there are apks that can override this)

This is correct. I have a canbus box connected. Do you know how I could override the canbus box? I should mention that the knobs *sometimes* very rarely, work. I guess the electrical resistance of the knobs needs to be calibrated with the mcu and/or canbus box or something of the sort.

Forget about the resistance. If you have a Canbus, the unit/mcu sends/receives digital signals to/from the CANbus and acts on it.
For overriding the apk calls, see my FYTHWOneKey.apk (in my signature, but not really maintained anymore).
For overriding the MCU control, see @seb21's modded com.syu.ms.apk.

Is your apk the one where you can change the system calls of some buttons, but not really reassign them? Also, not sure if it's because I'm on mobile, but I don't see a signature. I'll try the modded ms apk and see what happens.

Say you want to assign something else to the BAND or NAVI button of your unit, you can select in my HWOneKey apk another application or system call or script. I do not know if that is what you mean with "really reasign them".
And @seb21's apk does the same, but on a "deeper" level.

Luckily is a magnetic keyboard, which means I can still carry without it.
Noticed that the Internet browser button is no longer there? ALso, no joyce stick, ok button, and window buttons.
Yeh... dedicated row of number keys!
2 extra keys per row. This will be challenging to use. No keys for the corresponding soft keys. No more special keys for phones. Looks like a keyboard meant for input only, which is probably a good use of the keyboard space. I'm disappointed that lettter Z is still one character too right. Z should have been directly below the letter A, as is the case with standard keyboard. Should have made the left shift smaller and shift the whole row left by one key.
But the biggest questions are, any vibrating motor (sincere there is no more microdrive) and embedded earpiece?
Anyone care to comment on the google maps, tomtom included, and the video performance relative to the x7500/7501??
I think it looks tasty! The keyboard still looks useless...
I quite like the newer look, pity that there's no okay button I tend to use that quite a lot.
as the camera button is now on the front I wonder what the one on the top right is? seems daft to duplicate it.
Wonder if it would be possible to get the new athena keybaord to the old athena.

I think that's the voice recorder/com manager. They just shift it to the top.
I also use the ok button quite a bit to minimise application. For example, after a phone call, I press ok to hide it.
Looks nice - but evolution rather than revolution, I want one. Just not enough to make me fork out what it will cost.
How am I supposed to control my music player without the joystick and action button? Now I use it to volume up, volume down, next song, previous song, and off the screen. I also use OK button to bring up the playlist, and browser button to pause/play. With these buttons all gone now, playing music without switching on the screen would be a problem.
So much for the next version being the Next Big Thing. Loosing the joystick and half of the programmable buttons was a bad choice. No mention of vibrate, or gaining a private earpiece, either. No wider+narrow screen and form factor to make it more phone-like with more screen space. That membrane keyboard is going to suck, too. Anyone remember the Atari 400? There's a reason the Atari 800 was much more popular and so many aftermarket keyboards came out for the 400...
Next.
The new full keyboard looks like an improvement. Typing text with numbers or special character is now a nightmare on the advantage.
On the other hand, it looks like the little transparent strip at the back of the keyboard is now solid black. I kinda enjoy the fact that I can see who calls me with the keyboard attached.
Looks like the cut a lot of features from th Advantage where I don't even see what the point could be of losing them. How much space is that going to bring them and why would they need to save space on a device that's basically the same with only a bit of extra flash memory?

On a product like this, Velcro
And on a serious note, I'm loving the look, although I don't know how well it will work without the OK button, its a useful app switcher on the current generation. I could probably live without the joypad. Its a bit rubbish they've decided to drop the infobar thing (I'm assuming so given the 100% opaque keyboard) which is quite nice when your not using it in a case. I do like the look of the keyboard, might be more usable that the current one maybe.
Where are all the buttons? WTF?
We need more hardware buttons not less, and the joystick too Helloooo HTC WTF?
I would have considered it with the 16GB drive, but there is no chance now without buttons, I wanted a dedicated Answer/End buttons, I had the OK/Win buttons remapped as well as every other button with AE Buttons, this gave me Dedicated Answer/End plus Opera or IE and Flashlight all from a quick hardware button press.
I assume they are trying to to everything from TouchFlo instead.
I still would have liked vibrate and a dedicated ear speaker, for when my bluetooth headset is dead.
And the info display, I cant believe that they couldnt fix the damn reed magnet switch so it worked as advertised.
Well, still waiting for the next big thing

Anything, but, certainly not magnets(!). Why not permantely attach the keyboard or completly do away with it?
I find the Joystick to be most used button on the X7501. I rarely use the device in landscape mode when surfing my favorite blogs. I hold down the joystick to get past all the links on the home pages to get to the current messages. Also use it extensively to page forward in ebooks.

Here's the official press release: http://www.htc.com/press_room/03-press-080211_01.htm
Interesting that they only mention one camera in this release, yet the pictures show the camera facing the user. So... did the original 3 mp camera get chucked, along with the bright LED? Do you now need to turn the thing around to take a picture?
Other questions: Do the external GPS & cell antenna ports still exist? Does the new camera button (the old browser button) have two positions so you can focus first and then take the pic? What accessories will be included in the box this time (and will it include a belt-ready pouch)?
I think they really missed the boat on this one.
what about the backlight? does this keyboard get light on night?
On this danish site there is a bit more info about the new keyboard, which I don't see here:
http://qtek-user.dk/models.php?id=88 (very slow loading!)
It has what is called "haptic feedback", and it delievers a small vibration when you activate a key, which in my opinion must be an improvement to the old style. Also the numeric keys look great, but the lack of the various hardkeys is strange and probably inconvenient.
And here are the specs:
http://tele-online.dk/product.asp?product=16784&sub=67
Someone asked about GPS and Camera, according to this there are no changes, so both are present.

[PROJECT] Volume Control *Developers needed!*

Hey Guys,
last night, as i was lying on my bed, i heard music as everyday on my HD2.
I recognized that the "volume control" issue was very annoying, so i thought nearly 1 hour at my workstation before sleeping about an app which could be very useful.
And i got it:
Now this tiny App lets you do a long press on the not used place left and right (left=system and right=ringing volume) in the home tab, and a volume control appears. Then you just swipe your finger up or down for volume adjusting.

This is just a project, and not a ready app. It would be very nice if developers would help me in getting this finished. My programming skills are not very good, therefor i need someone who works with me.
I also thought about making this to an widget for CHT, but i think this will be too difficult at first, we should just make it easier for the alpha.
I also please you not to just "take my idea" and develop something to get fame or so.
If the implementation will be with graphics like images and so on, i also would like to take part in it by designing those over photoshop (as you can see in the preview, which was made by me in about 15 minutes).
So, i hope that there will be somebody who is interested in getting this project alive. Please tell me when you want to take part in this project (post in this thread or PM)

sallal

Congrats on your 100th post!
I don't really think this is a "problem": There is no big difference between what you're suggesting and the way it is working now - I would even say the opposite is true: Using the rockers is possible in all apps - so you can change the volume any time. But using the solution you suggest would only be possible on the home screen, right?
I'm sorry if I'm putting down your initiative...
You don't need to swipe up and down to increase/decrease the volume. You can press the button and keep pressing it.
You also don't have to press on the grey background. It will automatically return to where you left off after a few seconds.
@MAMeingast: yes, i think you're right.
@Ruudford: if i keep pressing it, it rushes too quickly in a direction and gets too loud/silent.

Don't keep the button pressed - press it once to make the volume dialog pop up and then press it again to move the volume up and down in increments!

is there any way to reduce the amount of increments ? so that it jumps 1 bar and not 3 or so ?

Sadly, I don't think so. That is something I have requested myself (and many others have as well) but until now I don't know of any way to do that!
The only indirect solution I know is this. These registry tweaks will enable the small volume overlay (like the one you get when you press the volume rockers when on the Music tab instead of the big one covering the whole screen) and the small overlay uses smaller increments. I have made a cab with the registry keys for many apps. Try it and uninstall if you don't like it!

S Pen Input Weird Glitch

So, I have been having a weird issue.
Everything works just fine on my tablet, with the exception of screen flicker as others has reported.
However, recently my s pen is not working right. Its not the pen, I have verified that my pen works fine on other note devices, and other s pens do not work on the tablet.
What happens is that it work only in small random spots and the input is completely off and never consistent.
The LCD works fine, touch input works fine, everything else works fine. I have done a master reset, to no avail.
The only thing I can find that is the issue, is the LCD cable connection to the PCB, not the motherboard. The spot where the cable connects below the battery.

The top part of the connector is broken off. I do not know how this happened. I have opened up to check connectors before and never noticed this. It was only partially broken off but as I inspected it, the rest just came off easily.
Regardless of how it happened, I am wondering if this cable is responsible for also handling s pen input. If there is a join function.
This is the only connector with issues, and when I had it connected and pressed on it I heard the drop sound as if a touch or spen input was occurring, but that could have been coincidental.
As far as I know, the ribbon cable is one sided, and a missing top only causes issues with holding it in place. However, I could be mistaken here.
Does anyone know if the LCD cable/port is responsible for also handling spen input, or if there is a different connector/board/port I need to inspect that I may have missed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know the digitizer ribbon cable is located on the top left, and that is in tact. However, I can definitely assume that this broken connector is causing the trouble. The spen works just fine for hitting the back and tab button next to the home key, just nothing on the screen.
I am now wondering how to fix it. The actual digitizer and screen are fine, and I would hate to have to replace them just for a small damaged connector, and I assume it is just a PCB that can be changed out, but I cannot find the part listed anywhere, nor can I get into the back casing without damaging it. I would assume that to expose this PCB I would have to melt/grind off the nubs that hold together the inner framework.
Here is the method to test your S Pen, if it fails the test, you have to change the LCD but LCD and touchscreen are glued together as a set.
This is the way to get to Factory Mode using your calculator:

Wacom Test is the one for testing S Pen.

Question How to easily select Vibrate, Ring, Mute without physical slider?

Sorry I'm very outdated.
I'm coming from a OnePlus3 with a physical slider that lets me select those three modes conveniently.
It looks like I can press the volume button and then select icons for those three states, but curious how you're doing it!
Coming from an OnePlus 8T I do it the exact way you described. I think it's convenient enough, but maybe there is an even smarter way.
Well, you could always look for a 3rd party app...however here's what I do.
I use Nova Prime as my launcher primarily to be able to remove the (ugly and useless to me) Google search bar that is forced on us at the bottom of the screen whether we want it or not. But, another perk of using Nova is the ability to assign various gestures to do certain things. So I use the "two finger swipe down" gesture to open the settings directly to sound and vibration. You can use any of the available gestures that you desire. So all I have to do is swipe down on my screen with two fingers and voila the Sound and vibration screen from within settings opens to the same place that pressing the volume button and tapping a setting does! Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! I rarely ever have to press any of the physical buttons on my phones so they do not break, or wear out.
If you need more help how to accomplish this just let me know!
I use this as a widget on my home screen, works a treat:
Silent Mode Toggle - Apps on Google Play
Switch between sound, vibrate and silent mode from your home screen
play.google.com
Swype or touch the right / left side edge from any app.
Volume Control Panel - Apps on Google Play
Create your own unique custom volume panel style with added media controls!

That's interesting, I use Nova Prime too. I only use gestures to launch apps and never thought about doing anything else with them.
I tried as you said. When you do it, does it open the settings for Sound and Vibration? It doesn't trigger the same side UI as pressing the volume button does it?

Yes it opens the settings directly to Sound and Vibrations, not what opens when you press the volume key.

I use the Button mapper, and I have it mapped to a long press of the volume down to change the vibration/sound on (iOS style).
It works perfectly and there is no better solution! ;-)

My suggestion is a better solution if you value keeping your physical buttons in tip-top shape in case you plan to resell it someday. I rarely turn off my phone so I "never" need to push any of my physical buttons...rarely at best. So in my opinion my solution is better! YMMV

In your solution, you need to have the phone unlocked and do an "action" It's same as opening the sound manager and setting silent mode
My solution works even with the display off. I very quickly feel the volume button down and hold it 3sec in my pocket. A good response lets me know that I have silent mode.
I don't understand what button mapper has in common with resell. It's just a software thing, without any HW intervention.

I'm using 12 pro max. and my car has a wheel instead of a button to change songs.
When I turn it down, it goes to the next song, but when I turn it up, it does not return to the previous song or the beginning of the song.
It goes to previous and next songs in applications like radio app other than carplay.
It must be something to do on how CarPlay interprets the command it gets from the canbus / button.
Have you tried updating the CarLink app? I posted a file HERE which is from September.

In the Settings you can also switch the behavior for Next/Previous and Vol+/Vol-.
You could try if that does something for you.

Are the settings you mentioned in car play or in the system settings?

I tried but I couldn't figure out how to set it. I select the key I want to assign, but I cannot make any assignments.

I don't mean the SWC Setting, I mean Settings -> Factory -> Original Car Agreement.
It has:
Reversal Previous And Next ( This reverses your CANbus steering wheel next/previous behavior (Spotyfy is known for this) )
Reversal Volume ( Reverses the Volume +/Volume - in case your CANbus steering wheel volume keys/arrows work the other way round )

Because carlink is a hack emulator of Chinese 3rd party origin and not authentic/sanctioned carlink.
If wanting carlnk, best buy a genuine carlink unit.
yes, but there must be a solution. Why only the next song feature works but the previous song feature does not.
I solved the problem. I tried different canbus settings and vehicle models from the vehicle selection settings. Although my car is Renault Clio 5 2022 and xp canbus, when I select bg canbus settings renault kaleos 2017 vehicle, all steering keys functions work.

but this time the air conditioner indicator came out. Is there a way to turn this off?
Yes. It's been discussed several times already. Cant remember details. Search the forum.
