So, I have been having a weird issue.
Everything works just fine on my tablet, with the exception of screen flicker as others has reported.
However, recently my s pen is not working right. Its not the pen, I have verified that my pen works fine on other note devices, and other s pens do not work on the tablet.
What happens is that it work only in small random spots and the input is completely off and never consistent.
The LCD works fine, touch input works fine, everything else works fine. I have done a master reset, to no avail.
The only thing I can find that is the issue, is the LCD cable connection to the PCB, not the motherboard. The spot where the cable connects below the battery.

The top part of the connector is broken off. I do not know how this happened. I have opened up to check connectors before and never noticed this. It was only partially broken off but as I inspected it, the rest just came off easily.
Regardless of how it happened, I am wondering if this cable is responsible for also handling s pen input. If there is a join function.
This is the only connector with issues, and when I had it connected and pressed on it I heard the drop sound as if a touch or spen input was occurring, but that could have been coincidental.
As far as I know, the ribbon cable is one sided, and a missing top only causes issues with holding it in place. However, I could be mistaken here.
Does anyone know if the LCD cable/port is responsible for also handling spen input, or if there is a different connector/board/port I need to inspect that I may have missed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

inside that connector there are spen control, touch screen, lcd and also pressure sensor so.....

I know the digitizer ribbon cable is located on the top left, and that is in tact. However, I can definitely assume that this broken connector is causing the trouble. The spen works just fine for hitting the back and tab button next to the home key, just nothing on the screen.
I am now wondering how to fix it. The actual digitizer and screen are fine, and I would hate to have to replace them just for a small damaged connector, and I assume it is just a PCB that can be changed out, but I cannot find the part listed anywhere, nor can I get into the back casing without damaging it. I would assume that to expose this PCB I would have to melt/grind off the nubs that hold together the inner framework.
Here is the method to test your S Pen, if it fails the test, you have to change the LCD but LCD and touchscreen are glued together as a set.
This is the way to get to Factory Mode using your calculator:

Wacom Test is the one for testing S Pen.

I recently bought a whole case for my vox cause the buttons where all smashed up and cos of the damaged screen. I downloaded a guide which shows instructions on assembly and disassembly from modaco and followed exactly.
The problem is after the operation was done i tried to turn on the device
and it showed the green led it made on opening screen it even vibrated a bit,
and it looked like it opened normally, the keyboard was operating and had the blue lights on but the screen showed nothing.
I opened it a lot of times from then, and played a little bit with that cable that connects the LCD with the device PCB but still the same results.
I also noticed that the numeric keypad wasn't working and tried to connect and reconnect lots of times the cable from that but still nothing.
ps: the device was working normally till i opened it. even the screen,Wi Fi, everything
Please give me some advice it is very urgent cos ι might have bought the replacement case for nothing
That is strange behavior as you tell it.
did the replacement parts also have the numeric keyboard included? This is not normal (but good if so) as the removal of the numeric contacts membrane is not easy (prone to break some wires or the connector) and the re-glue to the new housing not as well. Also the re-glue of the keypad above the membrane is difficult if you want a good looking result.
your LCD works ok (as you see the start screen)?
does the device connect to the PC normally, so does ActiveSync or Device Center recognize it?
There are two critical connectors, the LCD to PCB in the front and the front-back connector. The first can only be removed/reinserted if the little flap across the whole connector is flipped up/down, the latter must be tightly fit to the socket so it snaps (you can hear it) in fully from left to right.
Also mind that the SIM socket is closed, otherwise the device will not turn on.
Well the device does not connect to AS and the LCD doesn't show anything at all.
It seems to boot well though.
As for the keypad what do you mean to glue it?
I didn't glue it or anything like that.
The LCD connector to PBC also seems to be locking up well enough.
I have tried to disconnect and reconnect this cable but i still get the same result.
Nothing appears on the screen. It 's strange cos it worked fine before the disassembly proccess.
The SIM door was closed too.
For the front side - so the numeric keyboard was included when you bought the new parts? Did you also connect the numeric keyboard when re-assembling the device? The cable comes out at the bottom of the rear front.
Did you separate the LCD from the front PBA when moving the parts from the old housing to the new one? You must be sure to open the flap properly, then insert the LCD cable until it can not fit deeper, than close the flap. You will not be able to insert the cable without the flap opened.
However the device should connect to AS if the keyboard lights go on after slide out. Give it some time to boot up and reconnect. It looks as if the device is just "blind" and works otherwise - but then it should connect.
There were just the numeric keys not the inside.

The kit i bought included all these:
plus the keyboard and numeric keys, some screwdrivers
but nothing for the inside parts of the Vox.
I will try right now to assemble it again and i will contact you if i get the same problems.
Oh and one more thing: when i operate the device i know it works cos after some time
the keyboard keys start to glow which means it made it through the start up screen. But the numeric keypad doesn't show any reaction.
Well then I am puzzled how you can have numeric keys at all? The upper picture just shows the rubber part with the keys, the second shows the empty front panel. Between these two items, there is the numeric keyboard membrane. This is a flat flexible PBA that contains the actual key-function. The connector comes out at the bottom and must be clipped to the front PBA.
All 3 parts (keypad, membrane + housing) are glued to each other, hence the difficulty I mentioned in my first reply. If you do not have the membrane in your new device then you have no function, obviously! You need to transfer the keypad membrane from your old device to the new one - and this is a tedious job to do if you do not want to spoil the function.
Well can you elaborate on the gluing part?
In the guide there were only those pieces and nothing abou gluing.
Which guide - can you post the link?
Yeah its over here http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/HTC%20VOX%20Service%20Manual.pdf
Just right click and ''save as'' on the link
I know that one. Look on page 15.

removing the "sticker protector" will reveal the glue on the new parts so they can be assembled.
If you do not have the membrane (the FPC - see picture) you must remove it from the old parts and put it to the new one. Your pictures indicate that you only have bought the other two items (housing + keys).
I have the membrane but are these sticker protectors?
Are they on the old parts?
On a new membrane (which is very unlikely to get), the front (where the rubber + keys will stick to) part has glue-stripes that fit to the rubber of the keypad, following the outline, hence the advice to align the keypad with some holes in the membrane. The downward facing part is fully covered by a dual side adhesive tape - also covered by a protective foil.
So the normal sequence of assembly is:
glue rubber+keys to the membrane (care for alignment)
glue the combo of both to the housing, which is delicate as the membrane connector has to fit through the hole in the housing and you cannot correct once put there.
This is pretty much straight forward, isn't it?
A used part has no glue left (or is cleaned from it) - so you have to do it all yourself or the keypad will fall off sooner or later. If you remove the old membrane from the housing you will notice all the glue stuff.
Best case is that you buy a front-side where the assembly is not ripped apart. Then you will not have problems with all that glue-stuff. If you don't do it right and glue at the wrong places or to little between membrane and keypad, the resulting mechanical key-response is poor. I would not want to do it.
Here in Germany on ebay they sell those for 13 Euro including shipping in Germany: http://cgi.ebay.de/ORIGINAL-HTC-S71...0874?pt=DE_PDA_Zubehör_KM&hash=item2eab03608a
Can't i glue it myself? Isn't there a proccess i could follow?
How the gluing part can affect the LCD though?
you can glue that of course. For the backside just take double adhesive tape. For the front it is hard as only the edges of the key-rubber shall stick, the rest must not.
Keypad should work however if the it's plug is put the front PBA where it belongs to.
The keypad stuff does not affect the LCD - these are two separate problems.
My 2 1/2 year old son was playing with my Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and seems that he change some settings on the tablet because everything (wallpaper to widgets to apps) all look like film negatives. Even Youtube videos have that effect. How do I get it back to the regular look? Do I just do a factory reset or is there other steps that I can go through without having to do the factory reset?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Thank you so much. I am still trying to learn all the functions of the note 10.1. Now I can go to bed .
No problem, glad to have helped
If you like to use it often, for any reason, there is a widget "negative colors", it's one click instead of going through settings.
Possible issues causing color inversion.
I see that this thread is almost 3 years old, but I wanted to offer some possible explanations and solutions to this issue.
There are 4 problems that can cause the colors on the Galaxy note 10.1 to become inverted or distorted. Settings, LCD flex cable, Display drivers, and the LCD itself.
First check settings (Settings>Accessibility>Negative Colors) and ensure that this is disabled (box unchecked).
If this hasn't solved the issue, then carefully open the back panel of the device, and ensure the the LCD flex cable is connected properly. YouTube has several instructional videos available.
If the issue persists, then perform a back-up and restore to factory settings. This will reinstall the display drivers.
Lastly, if all the above has not solved the issue, then replace the LCD or contact your local repair facility.
Anything beyond these would indicate a problem on the mother board.
I hopes this helps someone out there save time and money.

I'd like to thank you for this post. I was having issues with the color calibration and artifacting on my note that started one day for no reason. I followed the troubleshoot order you have posted here and found out the LCD connector had worked its way loose. So I split the case and re-sat the connector and now everything works great. Thanks for saving the $100 screen replacement cost.

color issue after screen off
My Note 10.1 2014 (P605) is ruining smoothly for 3.5+ years without much trouble. Now, it's screen is giving some color issue. Tab boots fine and colours shown correctly. Once screen is off, it start to invert (not sure whether the correct word) colours. Later I observed screen not switching on but accepting touch commands.
I tried color invert setting, it seems not effective. Flex cable was not loose but sometimes reconnecting resolved temporally. Re-flashed the OS but issue came up after few days. This may seems like screen fault, but screen working fine at boot till screen off.
Does anyone have similar experience or advice to help me out.

Hi,
My wifi and bt modules didn't work for the past two months, and after searching trough the Q&A forums, I came to the conclusion that I have to change the ribbon cable, perhaps thats the problem.
So, I've ordered the panel, and it arrived yesterday, it was this piece:

}
I've swapped it with the old panel, phone fired up nicely, I even saw the BT connections logo appear on the status bar. Yay.
But.
The touch screen doesn't register my touches anywhere on the screen. I've checked the connections, everything connects good.
I've dismissed the idea of a faulty digitizer, since before the ribbon cable/panel switch, everything was working as it's supposed to be.
I'm fully out of ideas, so I'm doing these steps as a last resort: (I'm currently at the third step)
1. Discharge the phone all the way (until it shuts down).
2. Remove the battery and press the power button (as if you were trying to turn the phone on).
3. Leave the phone without the battery overnight (or for at least an hour).
4. Put the battery back and charge the phone without touching the screen.
Make sure you don't touch the screen whenever you're charging, until the issue disappears. This should happen within 2-3 days. If the problem persists, you ether did something wrong, or (as explained above) you have a different issue... Most common related problem is a faulty digitizer.

If this fails, the last option I see could be this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360638 (thank god I have a backup)
Please note, that I've tried the responsiveness of the screen with both with and without the battery cover installed, so I've dismissed the little silver pin as the issue. And as I said the touch screen was fully working before the cable/ribbon swap. Touch doesn't even work in recovery.
So (after a long intro), my question would be, does anyone have any ideas, what could be wrong? TBH, I don't want to buy a new digitizer (even if thats the issue), because I don't want to spend any more $ on this phone (bought a new battery, battery door, some misc stuff)
PS:
I haven't changed anything software/firmware wise during/before/after the swap.
Current setup is:
ROM: latest android1234567 CM11
Kernel: Sultans r53, slight undervolt, slight underclock
Recovery: TWRP
S-OFF
Thanks in advance!

I've the same problem also replaced the cable/ribbon. I've tried everything software related.
Hello everyone,
dropped my phone on Friday, didn't have a single scratch. But the screen didn't turn on, just had first a weird green line on top of the screen.
Brought it to a repair shop, they said the screen is burned and has to be changed.
First the positive things:
- phone is still running (LED, vibration, finger sensor, etc.)
- has internet access (could yesterday use WhatsApp Web)
I didn't backup all of my pictures, a few apps, screenshots etc. So Best solution for me would still be to have a functioning screen. The local repair store checks if the screen is available and how much it would cost.
Do you know what else I could do? I mean the phone is 2 1/2 years old, so I could also replace it, but I want to backup all of my apps and files.
I already checked adb, the device is listed but "unauthorized".
What options do I have?
Thank you and best regards
If the digitizer (touch) works, do what I recommended here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/help/broken-amoled-digitizer-data-recovery-t4160245
If it doesn't, you're going to need a USB splitter to connect both your phone to your PC and a mouse to your phone in order to confirm the adb authorization dialog (or at least that's the only idea I have at the moment). And a lot of luck to click where you're supposed to click. But yeah, it might work.
Ah, he has the exactly same problem
I like the idea with scrcpy, that would fit my needs to backup everything and then I can take a new phone. The problem at the moment is that I seem to be unable to press the button to authorize the phone.
I didn't get the idea with the USB splitter? You mean to connect a screen and a mouse to the phone? I tried with a USB-C portable screen, that didn't work. Is this possible with a splitter?

Using the splitter for simultaneous mouse and PC connection is exactly what I meant (the one in the picture is absolutely fine), albeit if your screen is completely dead, and the digitizer is broken (or so it seems), it's going to be really hard to click in the right place, I think.
As for the portable screen, OP6 doesn't support video output via USB-C AFAIK, so that's why you didn't have any luck with it (a splitter won't help with that). Technically you could use a displaylink device to mirror your screen, but I feel like that's just too much hassle.
Eh, I think I'm out of ideas for now. Maybe somebody else will be able to help. Hope you get your issue solved!
EDIT: I think I have an idea on how you could check whether touch actually works or not. Do you, by any chance, have touch sounds on? If yes, you should be able to hear a sound for every action you make on the phone (like opening an app and such). Just make sure that your phone isn't muted beforehand
EDIT2: Oooooooor you could just use a keyboard to confirm the dialog/input the code in TWRP if you have that installed (and if TWRP actually supports keyboards). Also worth trying.

Thank you so much for your propals! So finally I could make it run, I didn't start ADB, but I started directly ScrCpy and somehow on the phone pressed the button to accept the notebook. Since then I can connect with ScrCpy and now I can do my backup like that!

That's great to hear! I'm glad you managed to solve your problem
I've had a Galaxy Note 10 Lite for some time now and it started displaying this behaviour where the screen stops working after some time of the phone being on.
There's no apparent connection to how hot the phone is.
I've also re-sat all the straps and cables and cleaned them with isopropyl alcohol.
Sometimes during use, I'll see some quick greenish/purple-ish glitches on the screen. But, apart from that, it'll look amazing the whole time.
Also, sometimes, as I use it, the screen will freeze during whatever is happening on the screen and the image will refresh if I press it down on the 2/4 area from the top down.
Then, if I leave the phone for a few minutes with the screen either on or off, I could come back to it being unresponsive. At first, I thought it was turning off. But if I press the screenshot buttons, it'll vibrate and save the screenshot that I'll be able to see after I soft reset the phone back to life (it'll reboot by itself from time to time, though).
The time it takes for it to "die" varies from seconds to minutes to hours. But it's become unreliable and had to buy a new phone.
I thought about replacing the screen, but it costs as much as a new phone here in Brazil.
What I'm thinking is maybe there's some cable or something I could access on the screen to inhibit this behaviour.
Can anyone help me out with insights?
Cheers,
Uriel

Try in safe mode.
Clear system cache.
Try a hard reboot.
Any uncased drops or water exposure?
Just tried safe mode and the screen started all messed up, with elements that should be organised scattered all over it.
Now... I'm soft rebooting it and it goes straight to a dark screen after showing the Samsung logo.
I was going to try clearing the cache next, but now I need to get access back to the system.
I've done a hard reboot to no avail.
It was exposed to water years ago, which resulted on a screen issue that was fixed by Samsung by replacing it.
Ok. I got safe mode successfully activated now. I'll give it time but I don't feel too optimistic about it.

May have water damaged ribbon cable contacts, or water damage on the mobo is now showing up; corrosion never sleeps. Maybe another display failure. Maybe a loose cable; carefully inspect all display cables on both ends and their sockets. A failed ribbon cable.
Finally a corrupted rom or user data partition.
These phones are relatively inexpensive now, even new ones can still be had. The N10+ be an upgrade if you like it. If repair doesn't work you have other options.
The newer Samsung's suck. This generation of Notes was the zenith for Samsung and the Note... in my opinion. I have two N10+'s and they run like bats out of hell. Solid, well built, work horses that just keep running. This one in my hand has over 8k hours on it, looks, feels and runs like it's new with one battery replacement. Zero display flaws, current load is over 2 yo, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. That's what these phones are capable of.

Ok. I got safe mode successfully activated now. I'll give it time but I don't feel too optimistic about it.

Never know, could be a 3rd party app.
So, this happened. And it rebooted right after I stopped recording.
Yeah looks like the display but you won't know what it is without opening it up.
Don't think a factory reset or reflash will help... I could be wrong.

Yep. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue.
I don't know how to get access to the other end of the ribbons that go into the screen, though. I'll see what I can do.
Cheers!

Watch some tear down vids. Have the right tools and take your time. With used ones going for a couple hundred that's another option.
I'm surprised how well my N10+ has held up, it's always cased. Water exposure is a killer. Even if it's IP68 rated, keep it away from water, especially salt water.
I hope is the backlight issue on the logic board
