Hi!
Could anyone tell me, is there a windows software that would allow me to browse the system folders of SE c902? I can access phone memory all right and there is a hidden system folder there, but it contains mostly empty folders. I need to lay a hand on all the sms before I get the phone repaired. They are an important correspondence and I wouldn't like to have them deleted upon flashing of firmware, which I believe will be the case. I also cannot access sms box from the phone - software is probably broken. It would not be the first time when this phone needs flashing, but, well, my mother doesn't seem to want to change the device
[Q] Folder view starts with "Verizon Mobile" then goes to Card/Phone folders
Hello all,
I just flashed JB today using Odin (rooted/unlocked). Now, every time I connect my S3 to my PC, it comes up as D: Verizon Mobile, with 6 files visible (autorun.onf, Bootstrap-helper.exe, GdiPlus.dll, ModelNumber.txt, Samsung Mobile USB Driver.exe and ToolLauncher-bootstrap.exe) instead of the screen it use to show with ICS -- just the two folders Card and Phone.
Now if I wait about 30 seconds, that screen goes away and the expected Card / Phone directories appear and the PC says it is Computer > SCHi535 like it should.
Any idea how to get rid of the initial screen? I believe the correct Samsung drivers have loaded as once I get to the 'correct' screen I can go into the folders, copy, delete, etc.
Thanks
Frank
UPDATE: After digging around I went to Device Manager and found out that during the first 30 seconds after plugging in the phone, it thinks it is a CD ROM with software "samsung File Stor Gadget USB Device". I tried to update it - it said I had the best choice. I tried to delete it, but it comes back as soon as I reconnect the phone. I then disabled it. Now, that first screen does not come up but it still takes 30 seconds before the expected screen comes up showing both the Card and Phone in Explorer....
Im trying to move screenshots i took over time, But when i move them to PC theres no way to sort by the date i took them after transferring them ?
Im using ES File Explorer and on the phone i can sort them by date modified, So basically the date taken, But when i move them the
"date modified " Changes to when i transferred to PC so im unable to sort them cause all the dates become the same.
How can i keep the "date modified" from changing so i can keep them in order and sort them ?
I was using a OTG usb Then plugging that into the PC Then moving. If that matters ?
I havent tried dirct from phone to pc yet.
I have the Google Drive app on several devices. It is very important to me. Last year it got shut down by Google for containing " contaminated" files which were just Excel files containing hyperlinks. Although the hyperlinks were perfectly safe my drive was frozen for some length of time then I had to remove the offending files for it to work again. I deleted them and eventually Drive got back to normal but it was a huge pita.
I have an old windows tablet which has the drive all on it containing those files. It hasn't been turned on in years so it isn't a problem. I would like to use it this weekend but I'm afraid it will update and put those files back to online Google drive from Google drive folder in tablet as soon as I turn it on. This will freeze my drive and I go through the huge hastle again.
When I shut off the old tablet it definitely contained those Google forbidden Excel files in the Google drive folder. If I turn it on will drive update to current status without those files or will it put them right back when folder updates to cloud freezing me out again? What is the easiest way to ensure that doesn't happen?

Boot to recovery and factory reset the device.
Or
Turn the device on in a place where there is no network to connect to, it won't update/upload/backup anything without a network connection. Use that time to turn off/disconnect all network settings/connections, then delete or uninstall whatever you need to get rid of, then reboot the device.

I bought a Moto Z4 when my Z2 Force was no longer usable. I wanted to keep my TMobile account, but TMobile wasn't selling the Z4, and Verison was now the Z4 seller. I went online to Motorola's site and bought an unlocked Z4 so I could keep TMobile. When I have the phone charging through my PC, it opens a window for the phone saying it's the phones folder, but that folder is always empty. I have files on my phone that I would like to transfer to my PC, but with an empty folder I don't get very far. I've never rooted a phone before, and to be honest, it sounds pretty scary. I don't need my phone bricked because the method I used wasn't the right one, and I don't need malware issues. As much as I would love to get rid of some of the apps that came preinstalled in TMobile's version of the system, I can live with them if it means not having problems with my phone. But I still need to find a way to get to the files on my phone so I can copy them to my PC. So, the question in the title. Is it necessary to root my phone to get access to the files on the phone from my PC? Also, I have read that Motorola allows rooting of some devices. Is the Z4 one of them? and, how easy is it if Motorola allows it?
Rooting is not necessary to transfer files between your phone and your PC. You might need to enable developer's options and allow for USB debugging but I'm not sure. I just always do that immediately. Once your phone is connected to your PC you should have a notification at the top of screen saying Android System and when you expand it it should say "Charging this device via USB" and Tap for more options. Tap and USB Preferences screen comes up and you can select USE USB FOR option File Transfer instead of No data transfer and then you will be able to have the phone mounted like a drive on your computer.

You could also try LMSA's file backup options
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
To use LMSA you will need to enable USB debugging, but otherwise usb debugging should be toggled off if trying to transfer files.

Thanks. This is what I needed to know. I found out quickly that I was going to have to set file transfer every time I connected my phone to my PC, so I had to enable developer mode to be able to set the preference to file transfer so I wouldn't have to do it manually every time I connected my phone. Again, thanks for the help.

Thanks for the information. Fortunately, I didn't need this, but it could always prove useful in the future.
