I am also getting this error on ICS icysnap V2.0. I think this error is occurring due to some bug or incompatibility of latest google play service apk with our device. I have submitted the error report to google. I hope they will fix this soon. For the time being i have uninstalled the google play service. By going to Security > Device Administrator then uncheck the google admin. After this you can uninstall the application in usual way.
Previous version of google play services working fine.

I have also experienced this. Mostly happened while Gmail is syncing. Happened on cm-9, cm-10.1.6, and affected apps on cm-7.But Play Services works perfect on official stock gingerbread. So I think it's a combination of causes. Authentication of apps and services running on unofficial roms, and APIs that are built for armv7 devices. But I'm only guessing. Haven't had time to study my logcats yet. May 14 update seems to be a little better. But it's still not fixed.
Edit: May 16 update, still not fixed. Have read and verified that it works better on WiFi. On WiFi, Gmail, after syncing (and caching that sync) will not cause Play Services to close. But on mobile network, it does.
May 19 update to Google Play Services (version 4.4.52):
I think it's fixed
Updated several apps and synced Gmail. Did not get annoying message. Running cm-9.2.0 (hephappy).

Use a file manager and go to / system/app, and look to see if gmscore is still there. Long press on it to select and view properties. Properties should include permissions, which should be set to:
User: rw-
Groups: r--
Others: r--
The binary representation of this is 644
If gmscore is not there, then you may have it in your backups from TiBU.

Managed to fix it but I had to reinstall all the apps I had removed one by one as TB would not do a batch.
Kept throwing an error.
I really need to know what I can and cant remove as I rooted this phone to get rid of some of the apps I dont use they just clutter the whole system
Same bug after reinstallation of the firmware. I think there are some issues on Google's side.
FIXED!!! Finally Found This Fix!
I was unable to listen to my music for 48 hours, which is hell to me as I'm ALWAYS listening to music. This also looks horrible on Google/Android as I just left iOS (which honestly is a better OS than Android, but Android has come a long way so I'm optimistic about its future...and I also love my Moto X and prefer Android to iOS overall (minus these little annoying issues)). Anyway, finally fixed it by Uninstalling the update made on the Google Play Music app.
Go to Settings - Apps - Google Play Music - and select Uninstall Updates. Hope this helps.

This seems to have fixed the issue for me. Uninstalled Play Music, then reinstalled, and has been working fine since. Good thing too, as it was popping up twice in quick succession every 30 seconds almost. Very frustrating!
Anyway, thanks
EDIT: Seems I spoke too soon
im still umable to do it
I also have this problem, using most recent gapps.
Same problem
I've been having the same problem up until a couple of days ago Play Services worked fine but when ever i open the Google Keyboard the message pops up "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped working" and idea what the problem might be. My version is 7.0.97 (1791429-034)
Thanks for the help.

That one is really old, may cause other, but thankfully quieter problems. Would like to downgrade to a 6.6 version if I can find the link, however...

Back to version 7.* and the problem recurs. Need to defeat its auto upgrade, but this is not a normally-listed app on Play. Maybe after the audo-upgrade happens, one can get to its setting from "my-apps" pane, recently upgraded.

I have a problem with play store . When i start a download and screen goes off , the store doesn't finish the installation of the app until i turn on the screen. It go worse when i update or download a list of apps as i have to make sure screen is on all the time.
I checked the settings of wifi and battery optimisation and nothing looks wrong ( the play store app itself isn't in the list of protected and unprotected battery optimisation apps)
I did factory reset and nothing changed
Thx in advance

Device manager - screen off lock - protect play store from auto-hibernation after screen off
Had this problem since Gingerbread. You need to make sure Play Store isn't killed after screen off.

I don't have anything xalled Device manager, there is Phone manager but there is no option with this name as you mentioned
In fact there is protected apps that supposed to be apps not being hibernated when screen is off, sadly play store is not shown in the list

Go to Settings- battery-Close app after screen lock and untick the Google play store from the list.
Go to settings- APPs- setting-Speacial access- ignore optimzation-select all apps from drop down-google play store and click allow.
let me know if this works.
As you can see from the phoots, I don't have the same settings option as you said Shashank1320

You can see also that Google play store dowlesnt have the option to be turned off or on when screen locks , but Google play books (also the usual other apps ) have this option

And one more thing, I think that there is no problem installing apps through 1. mobile data 2. wifi when I am charging the phone
this needs more checking as the downlading time differs according to the size of apps

Sorry for being late but I wasn't able to test yesterday
Unfortunately that didn't help, after some time the play store app goes to sleep and I am unable to change that.
I wonder if this is a bug in software version or my phone is defected :crying:. If anyone still on marshmallow and can have a look for me will be great.

Post-Oreo update, I can no longer use the Google Play Store's search bar. The app immediately crashes.
Anyone else have this issue? I've tried clearing the cache and data, but it doesn't help.
Uninstal playstore update
Same issue
After oreo update, play store crashes when clicking or searching on an app in the store.
I tried clearing cache of play store and play services and re-installing the latest play store apk. no luck.
Any Ideas?
Similar situation here on nougat. One of my m9's has playstore problems and the other one doesn't. One is a daily and one is fresh. Fresh one works great. Must be an app or something causing it as nothing short of factory restore has fixed it..

You could check if it is an App, by rebooting into safe mode.
Press power button, then long press power down. As soon, as the save mode pop-up shows up press OK. The device will reboot to safe mode and thus deactivated all installed Apps but system apps to make sure nothing can interfere with core functionalities. If all works there, you have to determine which are the recently installed Apps and uninstall them one by one to check which one it is.

Had same issue post Oreo update. Uninstalled updates on the play store, after updates re-installed worked just fine
I have just had the same problem with the EMEA Oreo update. I tried rebooting, clearing cache and data of both Play Store and Google Play Services and nothing worked. I uninstalled updates of both Play Store and Google Play Services and it became even worse: I couldn't even start the play store (nothing would apparently happen when clicking the icon) and sometimes force close messages from the play store would appear even while it wasn't running in the foreground. What eventually seems to have fixed it was downloading and installing the latest Play Store APK from APKMirror. Maybe an automatic Play Store update would have also done the trick, but I am not sure that the auto-update itself would have worked in that state.
guys uncheck & disable PlayStore and PlayService app in boost+ battery optimizion....your problem fixed
boost+ change resulation lower of app in battery optimizion mode and new version of play store have problem with this mode
if problem in downloads disable : Download and downloadmanager app in boost+
OMG!
This seems to be the fix! Thank you so much, it's been driving me crazy for weeks!
i uninstalled almost all my apps trying to figure out which one was the culprit!
I cant see PlayService in boost+ but turning it off for Playstore now lets me browse the store!
THANK YOU!

I've been having this problem since Oreo landed on my moto g6 phone. I'm not finding boost+ on my phone. The closest thing I can find is a special apps access->battery optimization that has a list of apps to set battery optimization. Google Services is precluded from optimization and I can set play store yes/no for optimization. Setting this off and rebooting has had no effect on Google Play Store's crashing.
Ever since I received pixel 6A, I have been experiencing this issue which I believe is well known to prior releases in this series.
The moment I open Google cam downloaded from play store and not installed from gcam port repos, it force closes and immediately reboots my device.
Are there any workarounds other than using another app for this?
Google camera is a system app built in, why would you need to download it from the store?
Try to factory flash or just replace from Google

I didn't separately download it from the Google Play store, but it did update itself.
Also the reason I specifically mentioned it being sourced from play store is to let experts know that I am not using any gcam ports or custom modified version of Google camera app.

Interesting....cant say Ive ever seen that happen.
@nikha I too faced the same issue when I got my P6a. It was on Android 12 and I updated all the apps including camera from Playstore. Suddenly it would freeze for a second and the phone would reboot whenever I opened the camera app.
Fix - I cleared the data of the camera app and updated to Android 13 and did factory reset. The issue has not occurred again. So far, no issues.

If that's the case, I would return it. That sounds hardware related if it's happening with vanilla no apps installed that might interfere android.
Hello,
Please help! I have a HTC U11+ with Android 9. For some reason I cannot open the settings app or by tapping the gear icon. I have performed a factory reset by using the power + up during boot but it's not made a difference.
I have noticed if I uninstall Google or updates it starts working again. I don't know if this is an issue with a recent update but it's causing some big issues. Can anyone offer any advice how to resolve the issue or some alternative?
Kindest regards,
Nick
Hi Nick, I have the exact same issue on HTC U12+
I tried booting in safe mode, but also that didn't make a difference.
Uninstalling google also fixes the issue for me, I think I'll report it to google. It's highly doubtful we can get any support from HTC. I just want to hang in there till the pixel 8 is released, didn't think HTC would throw us this curveball
edit: looks like the google app is getting a lot of 1 star reviews recently. For some people the app itself stopped working completely. Interesting. Perhaps we can also just install a "good" version by downloading a verified APK. Then you can disable individual update for the google app. Not ideal though, but a worst case scenario fix maybe. At least we won't be stuck with the 2019-ish version of google that way
I, too, had the same issues where the Settings app (and alll related functions) would crash. After about an hour of freaking out (I was at Disneyland when I discovered this and had no access to tools or a computer), I figured out it was the stupid Google app that caused the issue... just like what was already reported above.
After trial and error, the last "good" version of the Google app that still worked is 14.15.25.28.arm64. You can grab this from APK Mirror.
Thank you for your replies.
Sounds like it's an issue with the latest Google app update which I think is 14.17. Installed 14.15 as per your suggestion and that seems to work fine. Thanks again.
This mproblem now seems to have resolved itself, not sure if Google or htc fixed it but works fine now without needing to uninstall Google Updates
Thanks for the reply. Yes, mines also been resolved since the Google app version is now 14.17.34.28. Don't think HTC are doing any kind of support/updates nowadays
