If I go to Google Store website, I find that in pretty much every region, Google is only selling the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro on their official stores, with the rare exception of Japan and India, where I see that even Pixel 6a is listed.
This makes me think that Google is no longer having stock of it's older models, and such models that are available in 3rd party stores (both online and offline) are essentially unsold inventory.
This leads me to the question:
Every year when OEMs launch their newer phone model, do they completely stop producing their older models in each segment? Does anyone have reliable info on this? No speculation please.
I bought a Google Pixel 5 on Amazon. There was something about the packaging that was suspect. It lacked the kind of polish one would expect from original packaging. Most importantly, month of manufacture was Dec'22.
As far as I know, Google stopped producing the Pixel 5 sometime in 2021, and all Pixel 5 available anywhere in the world should be 2021 or 2020 make. I don't think Google produced the Pixel 5 in 2022, and that too in Dec'22.
Apple doesn't instantly discontinue it's older models when new models are launched. The reason for this is to clear out inventory of components used in older models.
The point to remember is this:
If an OEM is still producing an older model, it will list it in it's own stores (both online and offline). If a manufacturer has stopped listing an item on its own store, it simply means it has stopped making it.
This is true for all manufacturers.

Yes, I noticed this when I bought a Samsung Galaxy A52 4G a few months ago. When I searched for it in the store, it didn't come up, but when I searched for it online, I found the product info page from Samsung.

So if you find a box of Galaxy A52 4G today that shows the month of manufacture as anything later than the time you stopped seeing it listed on the official site, it means the box is fake. The phone inside is either fake or a used/ refurbished one.
The problem is many online platforms like Amazon, eBay, etc. are used by dubious sellers to sell such used products as brand new, and these platforms don't seem to be doing enough to stop such cheating.

I have no reason to weep as I'm not a iPhone fan. But thanks for the notice!
Interesting. That's either because they've run the stock out for the 3g model coming out soon, OR they've pulled out of their contract with Apple for some reason.
Here is the full press release
British carrier O2 today issued a statement on its website (not available outside of the UK) that the company has stopped selling the current-generation iPhone. Both the 8GB and 16GB models are listed as "no longer available" and have not been given a restocking date by the provider. Apple itself continues to list both versions as shipping within 24 hours, though independent phone retailer Carphone Warehouse has also reported selling out all its supply without expectations of new shipments.
O2 recently instituted a temporary price cut to help drive sales but is thought to have underestimated demand, triggering a sales spike that dried up supplies of the 8GB model covered by the discount.
The device has been in chronic shortages in recent weeks across both the US and Europe, and is believed by many to have effectively been phased out by Apple in favor of a replacement expected at next month's Worldwide Developer Conference. California-based Apple has not explained the early shortfall other than to suggest that demand has been stronger than anticipated.
To me, this seems a slightly strange marketing tactic unless they're gonna sell the "new" iPhone for a lot more...
Why stop people buying the current generation when you can still make money?
Actually... I have both an iPhone and a TyTN II... so... just to help shed some light... while WM people here are saying that O2 is cutting supply because of unsatisfactory demand, people at the Mac side are speculating that this is to make way for the 3G model, with its eminent release, which is believed to be held sometime June 9th-13th, in Apple's WWDC. AT&T has also passed an internal memo to its employees restricting employee vacation days on June 12-July 15 or something like that... I forget. But on the company memo, it said that they needed manpower to help the stores because they were "expecting large demand" due to an "exciting new product launching." Looks like O2 is probably clearing the way for the 3G iPhone. Just my 2 cents.
just an update the site now says that only the 16gb is available. this has been updated within the last half an hour???

I don't get it. i clicked the TS link and i get offered to buy an iPhone. Am i missing the part where i can't buy it and its no longer available?
The 8Gb are gone but they seem to not have a problem selling you a 16GB one. Is that what all the hullabaloo is about?
This is bizarre - can't get onto the o2 shop to even look - says they only sell to the UK.
But I'm in the UK, working at one of the larger internet backbone suppliers ....

If you read my post following the original announcement. Within half an hour of releasing an official press statement from both o2, apple and carphone warehouse they have changed the site to say that only 16gb available
Looks to me like either they cant make up their mind or a shameless marketing ploy
Wanted to see if any others out there with the Surface Pro has differing hardware in their Surface Pros?
To get to the point - I originally purchased my first SP at Best Buy - only to return it to the local MS Store a few days later due to a screen issue and exchange it for a new one.
Two key things noted:
First SP started with a serial number of "011xxx" and had a Micron mSATA drive (as noted in iFixit's Teardown) - but 128GB instead of 64GB.
My new SP has a serial number that starts with "029xxx" and has a Samsung mSATA drive instead (128GB - Model number SAMSUNG MZMPC128HBFU-000MV) ...
Just interested if anyone has similar differences in hardware and also if anyone knows how to "decode" the serial numbers to figure out where they're made - date of manufacture, etc.
Also of note - the new SP actually has a warranty date through May 17th (15 months) instead of the 12 months from the one I got from Best Buy originally - not sure if that's due to the swap/exchange at the MS store...
Maybe the delays here in the UK are down to MS struggling to get hold of as many mSATA drives as needed, I wouldnt of thought they were that popular before now...
It's hard to gauge if they're actually that "popular" in the US currently, or if MS actually has a supply chain problem and didn't make enough of them....
My first SP was only 1 of 5 that came into the store last Saturday morning (better than the 1 of "zero" that came in on launch day).
The second SP was really a stroke of luck, in that I have 2 MS stores. When I called the support line to start the exchange process - the CSR called the stores for me and - again pure luck - one of the stores had one (due to another buyer only buying 1 surface instead of 2 that he had originally requested). The CSR had it held for me and even when I got there, I had to argue a bit to make them go back and check and get my replacement (the sales rep there thought he had none until he went and checked with his manager).
I did notice while waiting for him to confirm that 4 other people came in during that time to pick up their SPs... So I believe that they're starting to slowly trickle in. In fact, yesterday, one of the other BBY stores that I had placed my name on their list called me to notify me they had one ready to pick up if I wanted it... Told them to release it to the wolves..
Back on topic: Looks like AnandTech confirms what my suspicion is:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6756/microsoft-surface-pro-msata-ssd-upgrade-dangerous-but-successful
"My review sample included a 128GB Micron C400,while I've seen reports of users getting Samsung PM830 (OEM SSD 830) based drives."
Though I'm not entirely sure if my model has the PM 830 or an entirely different model ....
Given the amount of time its taking to get the Pro here in the UK and given I already have an RT I'd be tempted to wait for the Pro2 now, 4th Gen i5 and larger drives perhaps....

I was pondering the same thing.
Ha, at least in the States you can get the bloody things, here in the UK the website keeps changing but doesnt actually tell us anything...
Is Google trying to get away from Smarphones hardware?
Days ago, It was mentioned that the nexus line might be discontinued to be replace for
Google Play Edition from different manufacturers. More flagships up to date with Android, but $ubsidies?
And today a more reliable source, says this: Lenovo nears $3 billion deal to buy Google's Motorola unit.
Lenovo nears $3 billion deal to buy Google's Motorola unit
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/29/us-google-lenovo-idUSBREA0S1YN20140129
Unfortunately, rumors were confirmed by Google on the sale of Motorola an really I see it that the Nexus and Motorola brand should have been mixed.
But in a smart move, Lenovo just got the brand but the proprietary patents for devices/Android is still Google's, that's the good thing of all of this.
I'm looking for an older phone, likely a Pixel 3a or 4a - we are currently on Verizon but want a phone with an unlockable bootloader and a headphone jack, so the list of choices isn't very long.
In looking on the big auction site I see some phones listed as new in box, generally from China. Ditto on ali. What's the story on these? It seems odd that new ones would still be available in large quantities - I can see an individual one here or there that got misplaced at a store and never sold, or whatever, but large numbers? Are they actually new? Or refurbs with new packaging?
If it looks too good to be true...
Buy from known good venders only.
That site is US based and buys unsold lots stateside and resells them. Got my new factory sealed N10+ from them.
If it's not new make sure you know which OS version is loaded, if that matters to you.
Avoid cash purchases, cover your six...
heyho,
any cracks here with some insider knowledge?)))
there are some pixel 3a sold these days and after arrival there is some strange saying in the phones details/specs
not for resale
what devices from which market/ where for might those be?
Heyho, Pixel main tab here now with a question.
Got a new and sealed Pixel 3a, however wondering where the new ones coming from three years after ending the sales on Google side.
the device says in the IMEI/details tab: NOT FOR RESALE and the IMEI entered in Pixel Repair check says error, contact us.
And contacting Google says the IMEI is blocked there but they cannot say why.
So maybe some professionals/support experienced members here that might bring some light inside those devices, Google or not, no idea if other manufacturers/brand shave that units too, not for resale?
What might that be, "soft branded" like that?
