I have a Moto G Stylus XT2043-4 2020 edition, US running Android 11, non-rooted. I wanted to enable freeform windows so I went to Developer Options, turned on "Enable freeform windows" and rebooted. But no freeform windows, and when I looked at Developer Options again, the Enable freeform windows option had mysteriously unchecked itself.
I read about the Taskbar app and how that was supposed to get freeform windows going so I installed that, checked "Freeform window support" in it, turned Enable freeform windows back on in Developer Options, rebooted again but still no freeform windows.
Is there some trick to this I'm just not getting?

Hey, I don't know if you have figured it out yet but if not I will tell you. When you restart your device certain settings can be reset for some reason. Free form windows are one of them. A fix is just enabling it and not rebooting, seemed to work for me.
Thanks for the reply. I had basically given up on this but I just checked again and although I've rebooted multiple times since my OP, I now see that "Enable freeform windows" actually *is* checked in Developer Options. I just tried opening a few freeform windows and by golly now it's working. I still need to launch apps from the Taskbar app to get them to do freeform but at least it works.
It's very odd because I've changed nothing else, no system updates, no resets or anything like that. So that's cool. Go figure.

Hi Guys,
I've recently updated my Rogers HOX to Android 4.1 via the OTA system update. during that process, I inadvertently left some developer options enabled which have caused them to be enabled even when all developer options are disabled (via the main toggle).
does anyone know how to "reset" the defaults so that when I leave the developer options off, it will keep all developer options disabled?
The two options in particular are:
Show touches
Pointer location
thanks,

The main toggle is only for allowing access to the dev options, it doesn't turn them all off. You would have to reenable access to them and then turn them off manually.
Yeah... I tried that. Even with those two options disabled, once I flick the master toggle off, the two settings turn on again.
Why not just leave the developer options on? It doesn't hurt anything

Yeah, that's what I've done for now. Its just a nitpicky thing for me and I'm new to android so I thought a change like this would be possible somehow.
Hello everyone, do you guys have any idea why my developer option suddenly cant be turn on? Even the options under it like forcue GPU rendering and USB debugging mode can't be enabled. The switch has been disabled.
Please see screenshot attached.
Im not unlocked nor rooted. 100% stock.
Okay, i got my own problem solved. I just data cleared the [Settings] app under app manager. Then re-tapped build number multiple times again to re-show the developer option menu and bam! All options are now changeable again.
I don't know what happened but my theory is that it got messed up when I updated the phone. I initially enabled the developer option when I first got the phone yesterday. Upon arrival at my home, I updated to the latest build. After that the developer option was disabled.
hello guys, i have a problem with xiaomi note me 10. in practice, as soon as i install rom with android 10 base, automatic brightness and image stabilization in videos stop working (app freezes). i tried all the existing roms global, stable, .eu on both miui 11 and 12, made any type of reset, used miui app from pc, locked and re-unlocked bootloader ... i tried them all.
with miui android 9 everything works while if i switch to android 10 they stop working. even OTA updates have done the same thing.
have you ever had similar experiences?
If Android 10 is where the main issues are occuring for you, where a workaround that I found works.
1. Enable/Open Developer Options
2. Find, and tap "Quick settings developer tiles"
3. Enable the "Sensors Off" switch.
4. Open your phone quick setting (swipe down from the top) and tap "Sensors Off". Then wait a few minutes.
5. Tap "Sensors Off" again, to make the button turn grey, to disable it.
Then check to see if the sensors are all working.

got fix? I have the same bug
Like two or three months ago, i opened up the developer settings with the "tap 7 times on the build number" method. And i used it, then i wanted to turn it off. To do this: i went to my application settings, found the "settings" app and cleared data and the cache. With this method, my developer settings gone.
So, i wanted to turn it on again couple of days ago, tapped on the build number and a pop-up showed up like this:
"No need, developer mode has already been enabled"
Then when i go to the main settings page, where the developer settings were in, there was no developer settings.
And yes, i know where the developer settings exactly is. So please don' t answer me like "check again", "tap on the build number for seven times", "restart your phone" or something like these.
And no, since i cant reach to the developer settings, i can't open the "OEM unlock" and "USB debugging" settings.
And i also tried the "Activity launcher" app but it didn't work too.
Please help...
Did you thy this one?

Just reset the phone if you really need dev options
From what can tell despite being enabled, I can no longer see developer options in settings. I'm assuming this happened after I rooted, because I had been in the setting before. I tried a few searches but they were all related to how to enable developer option.
You may need to re-enable the developer options again by clicking the "Build" number a bunch of time in the "about" section of settings, then developer options should re-appear in settings.

ok, yea that was the first thing i did when I was unable to locate it. I even searched it but nothing came up. What's odd is I kept going back, scrolling through thinking I was missing something...after maybe the 4th time I searched it again, despite it not working previously, but it showed up. So i am able to access it through searching, but I still don't see it in the settings list.
OK,
Might be a dumb question, but you do know that to get to "Developer" options you first need to go into "Settings", then "System", then drop down "Advanced", then scroll down and second from the bottom is "developer options".
If it's not there, then maybe go back into developer options using the search as you stated, then turn off developer options via the slide switch at the top, then re-enable it using the build taps and see if it then adds it back into settings.

wow, wtf. I used developer options already on this phone to enable usb debugging.
I had no issues finding it, I swear it was just in the list with the regular settings, the ones with the color icons next to them....but you're right, it was right where you said it was. Doesn't look familiar at all considering I've already accessed the setting a couple times before.
Thanks man, idk how long it would've taken me to figure that out.
