Hi all.
Just wondered if anyone has pics of how they're arranging the home screens. This is mine at the moment... Using stock launcher, as I really like the gestures.
I wasnt really a fan of how the stock launcher handled folded and unfolded home screens. Currently using niagra

I find the same to be honest. I'm not a fan of the way things are arranged on the large screen/front screen
That looks a brilliant set up. I love the Icon pack as well!

I would much prefer a samsung like homescreen setup although I dont really like how they handle the app drawer. Completely different homescreens for folded and unfolded is the way to go imo. Extending to the second page (which most launchers seem to do) is very annoying.
Niagra just extending the size of the screen is better than extending to a second page but I still dont think its as good as seperate home screens. I dont think I could use another launcher anyway though. I just really like how fluid it is to use.

Agreed there. I came from A fold 4, I really liked the ability to have different home screens on the front screen, and main screen.
I'll give Niagra a try I think
Total Launcher fully supports two separate home screens and it was quite nice on my Vivo X Fold, but now on the Mix Fold 2, the gestures issues have forced me to use the standard one...

Not being able to use the gestures is a big shame! I did try Niagra launcher from the recommendation above, I really liked it but couldn't get on with the buttons taking up screen space. Total Launcher looks great too!

Yeah I had to use a third party solution for gestures as explained in a previous thread here but the results are good and I havent had any issues after setting it up. Root is required to properly hide the original nav buttons though as the ADB methods dont seem to work on newer android versions.

Well i have been lurking and reading as much as I can.
I have an evo and became a flash-aholic, so naturally I wanted a Tablet
I have read many reviews, articles, and the like. and decided to take a chance. I like a challenge and wanted to be kind of a pioneer so here is my two cents
the "Hannspree" is an SMB-a1007, very similar to the gtab except for the soft buttons on the screen are different.
I got the tablet from a__z for 299 free ship and I do like it.
so here is what I have found
1) it has a 1.2-4204 bootloader, so its 1.2 right from the start.
2) for some reason, and I am sure i will figure it out, the "2.6.32.9-00001-g0e0c333-dirty hudson at tapntapsvn #5" is the only kernel i can find the supports the soft buttons on the screen. home, set, back.
3) I tried to flash a 1.1 rom before I knew better and ended with a bootloop on the tap n tap logo.
nvflash 1.2 -4239 "thanks Roebeet"
that fixed but I must then restore the a factory load from hannspree, currently 1.2-4204. to restore buttons on both the system and in recovery which is "android recovery (3e)???
4) I messed around with diff 1.2 roms and substituting the original boot.img and recovery.img into Brilliant Corners and the like, I have a good working rom.
5)with the standard 1.2 (4329, or BC of LC) rom image the volume keys are backwards and soft buttons are inop. and in recovery the volume keys are the only ones that work, the power is inop as well as soft keys. but other wise very stable and fast.
6) Bottle of smoke loads, and runs, but.... there are no soft buttons, and for some reason the bottom taskbar is missing????
well I can answer anything if anyone wants to know?
Should have bought a GTab.
I know, but I love to have a little project and this is something that no one seems to be working on.

Because it is not a GTab.
Good luck and enjoy your tablet!
Does the display on this tablet have all the viewing angle issues we have with the gTab?
I realy don't have viewing issue at all. Only a bit with the sun at my back but the only bad angle is on the right side. Looking t a really tilted angle. Straight on its great. I am running and NI adam HC14 from quite well

Please, tell me how can I disable the standard interface and instead of it to use another full featured. A friend of mine (who own) asked me that but I have not experience with tablets.
He wants to keep the guaranty.
Hannspree specifications looks good but its interface is really slow.
Thanks!

Look into launchers, for example I use 'VTL Launcher'. It replaces your home screen, allows you to change the number of rows/columns, have 3 app docks (left, right, bottom). It's available on the Android Market.
But lags due to the launcher and lags due to the ROM/kernel are seperate issues, so YMMV.

Thank you for the suggestion but what is that: YMMV?
your mileage may vary
i installed LauncherPro.
Its great.
Fast and smooth.
the only thing i need now is support for the tablet (from xda)
I don't know if its just me, but the app icons @ the sence homescreen looks blurry, not sharp, NOT GOOD. The lockscreen and the app drawer icons look good & sharp but not in the homescreen for some reason. Plus, theres no black bar behind the icon label text, so its very hard to read the text when having a bright wallpaper.. not that its anything necessary, but it simply looks like ****. Pretty much any other launcher has sharp looking app icons and runs smooth, but I kinda want the Sence widgets etc.
Overall I think the phone UI isn't smooth for ****, I mean, my brothers Desire HD is way more smooth and is powered by a single core cpu (stock rom, no clock or root). Feels like I both hate and love the phone at the same time, HTC really need to shape the phone software up or back it goes!
Have you checked to see what type of screen you have? AUO or Sharp? Check out this thread

Yes, I posted this a while back, the home screen icons ARE INDEED blurry, (and the bottom bar has jagged edges, and the side of the screen has a 4 pixel black bar that problably noone has noticed(but I just found at it was because my sharp screen has a 544*960 resolution, maybe the auo has 540?)) you are not insane, I suppose sence 3,0 wasnt well finished to match the resolution.
Anyone in doubt, add an icon in the home screen, and look at that same icon in the drawer or inside a folder, MUCH SHARPER
The bottom bar being all jagged does bother me at times, but it's no big deal. No blurryness of icons for me. I have a Sharp panel.

I have shqrp oanel too, i had 4 sensations, all had blurry icons and so do you and every one else, the blurryness is very very imperceptible, it is something that most people wontnotice. But you do sligbtlykotice it when you compare a homescreen icon with the same onein theapp drawer. Try it with the "people" app, again its very faint, be happy you dontse it

Hehe, when i got my first sensation, it is the first thing that I noticed, and i was the first one that bothered me, that and the jaggies.
Then i had to send it back 4 times for various hardware reasons, not, the very faint blur doesnt bother me at all, compared to the rest.
I also think that being software, it isnt a problem and can be fixed.
I too wish I didnt see that stuff lol, all my RL friends, relations, the whole world around me, dont seem to care about this kind of stuff. Except people here on XDA, do we have a desease lol?
My GF desire HD has one of her 4 capactive buttons, the menu one, spelling out mEnu with a capital e instead and the rest normal letters, that is the kind of crap that drives me mad lol
My worst pet peeve used to be dead pixels and scratches. now phones are Gorilla glass, and pixels are so small you have a hard time seeing them if they are dead., So lord all mighty decided to put dust, fuzzy speaker, and various other problems in my phone to make up for it.

I've done a lot of comparing with icons on my homescreen and the icons in my app drawer and I see zero difference personally. Maybe something is going on with a portion of the panels.... As for the black box behind the text, HTC removed it in Sense 3.0 for some reason.
I'm coming from the Inspire 4G (US version of Desire HD) and the reason its so much smoother is because in Sense 2.0/2.1 there is a WHOLE lot less going on in the system compared to Sense 3.0. I personally deal with some lag also. I promise once we get S-OFF and we are able to flash custom ROMs, things will get a million times better. All the chefs and devs will tweak the stock ROM to fly on the Sensation and it will be a night and day difference once its perfected. We will get a lot of awesome devs coming to this phone for that specific reason .
My icons were blurry on Sense but ADW fixed everything as usual. HTC really needs to go back to the drawing board with Sense. I don't understand why everyone praises Sense so much. It has to much eye candy, can't change the **** icons and ITS SLOW!

I personally strongly believe that you just dont see it (no insulting or anything), but it is there, i mean it really is not like its all blurry, but maybe recroped by a pixel line.
It is not hardware, the screen isnt a problem, it is just on the homescreen, which is why i KNOW every one has it, or...there are multiple sense version out there.
HTC just hurried sense 3,0 out and its obvious (to me anyway) but I dont mind it all that much now
Maybe it's just me, but after upgrading to 2.3.4...the icons on the home screen don't look blurry anymore. Can someone else check?

Exactly, it's a sense problem, everyone has it, with some icons/colours it's a little difficult to spot, but it's always there, but I thought it was fixed with the 1.45, someone here mentioned that it did.
EDIT : and the above post seems to confirm it.
Think more along the lines of "slight soft focus" rather than blurry, I wonder if it's where they've pulled things over from previous sense versions and not rejigged it for 540x960
I have blurry icons and text too in desktop. Also that bottom bar doesnt have smooth border. This is Sense issue, because other launchers shows perfect fonts.
This is annoying too:

I have a S8+, and one thing that really annoys me is how there is about an inch or so at the top of the homescreen that can't be used for icons or widgets. Normally I would put the Google search bar there, but the highest it can go is about an inch off the notification bar at the top. *Really* annoying to have that space and not use it...
I don't really want to replace the launcher (at least not within 2 days of a brand new phone), so is there a way around it? Or do we have to wait until Samsung realises that the screen aspect ratio is slightly longer that a normal phone, and fixes the issue...
While I'm at it, is there a way to change the icon for a folder to use a specific icon (eg. first app in folder), rather than the usual bad looking (to my eyes at least) tiny apps inside the folder look? Otherwise I'm back to using Folder Organizer I guess... I know Nova probably sorts this all out, but it never 100% agreed with me for whatever reason and I always reverted eventually.
Finally, is there a way to get the AOD screen to appear on a clear flip case? Obviously it's being clever by turning off the display when the flip case is closed (magnet thingy embedded in the case), but as the case is clear(ish) then it defeats the point. Nice if there was a switch in options to keep the AOD screen active even if a case is closed on it, but I cannot find it...
Cheers
I never noticed it left that much space… . now it bugs me lol.
Yeah, it leaves a lot of space. Not sure why. You could fit another row of icons easily, but no go currently.

Fair enough. Thought as much. I'll give it a month, see if I reach unheard levels of OCD, and then install Nova if Samsung don't update. Will be about by 10th Nova install, but I always revert eventually. Always something that annoys me with it...
Stupid really, especially as it seems pretty obvious that it's about the right amount of space you gain from the extra length of the S8. Would bet the farm that Samsung forgot the new aspect ratio when it came to this. Honestly, there must be months of testing, and it's hard to believe it was missed.... Unless of course everyone at Samsung just installed Nova... Wouldn't be too surprised...
That AOD issue with the clear flip screen is well annoying though.... Really is a massive pain, especially when you can see right through the case, and even still use the touch screen (useful for answering calls without opening the case). Samsung does an amazing job on the screen, and then their own case has a compatibility issue....
Hmm, just noticed something... First day using while working, and a couple of times while wirelessly charging it has lost the wifi signal. Never (really really rarely) did that with my old Nexus 5. Don't like that considering I clicked on a notification icon on the AOD and it then tells me my network connection isn't available (and then connects before removing the notification so I don't know what it is). That's annoying... Sleep mode or something for wifi? Think I remember something similar years ago... Anyone?
Cheers
Use Nova Launcher and problem solved
@Crivensie, sounds like you're a bit like me. Nothing wrong with high expectations. About Samsung's testing though...I am not sure how thoroughly they test things because I found many bugs on the phone so far and I wasn't even trying. I'm not surprised at all at the issues you're having.

It's not a feature unfortunately. But I did see that you can turn on a feature to swipe away notifications by swiping down on the fingerprint scanner.

Yeah, I didn't think so. Thanks for the confirmation. Also no double tap for the screen off (can set an on gesture, but it interferes with the fingerprint then) unless you use Nova launcher or such to fake it.
After playing with it for a few hours, it's going back. It doesn't play nice with Nova launcher shortcuts. The fingerprint button feature sucks... I really hate using the power button. The Google launchers at a glance feature is somewhere between gimped and flat out busted. (AND you can't even remove it).
I guess I just miss all of the features I got with the g5+. I can't mimic what I had with any complete success. The camera is subpar, yeah. But I'll find something closer to my taste eventually. I might wait for the LG g7, which will at least have double tap for the screen. Also likely an OLED display. I do my own stock Nova thing to any photos i get anyway.

I didn't even really look at the Pixel launcher. Went straight to Nova Launcher as I have for every phone for a couple years. There is little that you can't do with it, including Google Now (which I didn't particularly like). That plus an app drawer manager which gives me a lot more folder management than plain Oreo does (Jina App Drawers).
This for me has been one of the best phones I've ever touched. Fast, smooth good display, easy to use and comfortable.
BTW, I don't use tap for turning the screen on, I looked at it, but have never used it before.
Yeah, the lack of customize-able features on the Pixel is what makes me hesitant to upgrade from my Honor 8. It's the first phone I've been able to use without rooting due to all the stock customization that is built in. I'm not sure these mostly under the hood android updates and slightly better camera are enough to overcome the daily disappointment of bone stock android.
I didn't like not being able to knock off for screen off either, so I downloaded an app called custom navbar buttons. with this app, i'm able to swap the back button to the right (where it should be, damnit!) and then put a small power button on the right next to it that can shut the screen off anywhere. love it.

Fingerprint Swipes lets you set swipe actions including lockscreen. I can't post the link, but it is in the Play Store by that name.
Is anyone else struggling to swipe? Swiping up for apps is an absolute nightmare it just wants to swipe to the left or right instead, and when your flicking through photos sometimes it swipes fine next it's really hard unless you literally pull your finger all the way across the screen, my old phone was a redmi note 8 pro and didn't have a problem at all with this.
Nope i mean i have some problems with bottom gesture but idk if its better after reflash whole 2gb rom or i just get use to it
Seems like a hardware problem to me, or it could be the screen protector, try removing/swapping it
Getting this as well
I also have this problem, its really triggering me, lol.
In 80% of the cases its totally fine, really snappy. But for the rest, the swipe snaps back to the current panel. It seems for me, that swiping horizontally is fine (for example when scrolling through Facebook).
Was about to send this phone back, but maybe there is a solution or other people with this issue.
I think a lot of this might be down to the poco launcher. I have replaced mine with Lawnchair 2 (along with lawnfeed) and everything feels better.
+1 it's the launcher indeed much better now with other launcher thanks for the tip
I had forgotten to update to MIUI 12.0.2 which has been released recently:

After that, it "seems" to be more responsive.

This phone feels like a different device once you change the launcher.
No lags or stutters!
Even at 60Hz it's just so smooth..
Its better but not solved still some weird behaviour in touch in different apps like facebook and playstore for example. In these apps it still feels uncomfortable/crampy.
I suggest you all sent a mail to [email protected]

I also have stutter in the drawer and the multitask view, both when scrolling. Is a software issue, hope they will fix soon. Now I will use nova launcher for few days to see if something change.
